he wants to fight RJJ really bad. Mark my words guys, Dana White will make that happen, not because he wants to or even thinks silva can win, but because he wants/needs arguably his best fighter to stay in the UFC!

Roy Jones lost to Joe Calzaghe, last weekend! That fight has no more hype! And I dont think Dana would have ever did it anyway!

kev i wrote you a few comments on the post with aa and fedor. write back when you can.

I wonder if he is still going to be talking aobut retirement. That is so he can pursue his other interests including his boxing match with RJJ as quickly as possible. With Roy losing, I wonder if Spider will reverse his stance. That certainly wouldn’t be as lucrative but it wasn’t about money anyway. TBD

Did Roach have a stroke or something? or did he just get hit in the head a lot?

by THORAZINE on Nov 18, 2008 6:26 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

He has Parkinson’s (the same thing Ali has).

Not really big news….

Of course his striking can get better… boxing and muay thai have many differences, boxing teaches more footwork, head movement, etc. lets just see if he can put it all together

by brendan on Nov 18, 2008 9:23 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Like I said in the other thread, I hope its just to refine his hands! I hope Anderson’s not still thinking about getting into boxing! One good thing is that theres no mega fight for him anymore!

by JV on Nov 18, 2008 11:06 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

he is though, thats why he’s “retiring” this year, so he’s not bound by the UFC contract. He will be the man who changes the contracts!

by kevin on Nov 18, 2008 11:07 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Its a pretty dumb plan if thats what he wants! Theres no mega fights in boxing at his weight! The only real money fights are at 154 or lower.

by JV on Nov 18, 2008 11:14 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

JV. not only did roy get beat, he got embarresed by calzahge. that fight tanked as far as ppv goes and a rjj boxing match with silva would probably do just as bad. i think silva was only thinking about boxing b/c he just got through beating guys like hendo, rich, marquardt and irvin with relative ease and didnt feel challenged enough. once silva moves up to lhw a starts fighting top guys in that division, he’ll start getting more and more challenged. remember when he said he wanted to fight at ufc 91, and now he’s being rumored to fight at 94. btw doesnt freddie roach always look like he’s taking a big crap? :)

by b.w. on Nov 18, 2008 11:46 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

“Taking a crap” LMAO! Hes got that disease that Ali has! And yes Roy Jones got handled! If Anderson wants to retire, the UFC should give him the rest of his fights at LHW. And with nothing but the best possible matches.

Hmm, so age finally caught up to Jones eh? I didn’t catch the fight but I been lookin for it.

by O damn he got caught on Nov 18, 2008 12:08 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

age caught up with jones a long time ago. roy won the 1rst rnd and actually got a flash knockdown, but calzaghe won all the remaining 11 rnds with ease. it’s not worth watching.

by b.w. on Nov 18, 2008 12:12 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Jones dropped Calzaghe in the first or second I cant remember? But it was more of a forearm while Calzaghe ducked. But after that, Calzaghe just schooled him. He was even putting his hands down and playing with Roy. Besides that 1 knock down it was all Calzaghe!

All due respect to A. Silva, but let’s see him bash his way through the 205’s before we declare him the best of all time. He clearly is the best middle weight of all time, and other than maybe another go with Dan Henderson, I really have no interest in seeing him fight at this class anymore. But there are still plenty of 205ers who I think would not only give him a run, but would have a greater than 50% chance of beating him.

If he proves me wrong and can walk through the 205’s and on to the title, then there will be no question, but let’s see how he does against guys like W. Silva first.

If he chooses to leave the sport now though, which would be obviously premature, than it will ALWAYS be in question and I would even go so far as to question his heart.

Somehow, I don’t think A. Silva is dumb enough to walk away at this point, so I am betting this is all posturing for something.

I’m a huge Wandi fan and if that fight went down i’d be rooting for Wanderlei but style was, I think Anderson takes that fight, he’d pose the same problems Chuck did with even better striking.

i’ve said since a. silva wanted to move up for tougher competition, they should put an event together around w. silva vs a. silva. now thats a super fight!

nice! more mma guys should take their boxing seriously.. the boxing skills that most of the MMA fighters have are horrible and what Anderson is doing now is great! maybe Chuck Liddell should go and try to improve his horrible boxing skills..

by RoB on Nov 18, 2008 12:31 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

great point – guys with Liddell like skills will be dinosaurs within the next several years.

The sport just keeps evolving so fast!

Damn, this is good for MMA. Boxing fans know how legendary of a trainer Freddie is and how many champs he has trained. Bringing legendary boxing coaches into MMA is only going to help the standup get on par with K-1 and pro-Boxing.

doesnt he train the pitbull aswell?? Chuck liddell is “fucked” are you serious? Just because he doesnt have a traditional boxing style of striking doesnt make him poor at it!! In actual fact liddell is one of the best strikers in the ufc, its only because he has losta couple that he is being criticised, thats “fucked” UP!!
Anerson has a very unique style of striking which makes it difficult to train for and prepare for as does chuck, i can see it now if anderson loses a couple of fights one day……anderson’s styles are old he hasny evolved…. fuck of and shut up, everyone gets beat its the nature of the sport!!

by mo on Nov 18, 2008 5:43 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Chuck is not one of the best strikers in the UFC and his boxing skills are horrible, look for yourself and see it the worst about is his defense.. Anderson Silva does not have a unique style, he’s got a good style! and he’s by far the best striker in the UFC that’s why you think his style is unique.. mo you shouldn’t even be allowed to comment on this go and wrestle..

by RoB on Nov 18, 2008 9:53 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I love this. Anderson with better hands? Scary.

by Pat on Nov 18, 2008 6:54 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

RoB is that all you can say “you shouldnt be allowed to comment on this”?? chuck IS one of the best strikers in the UFC, what I mean is when he is counter striking, striking isnt just aggressive strikers you know!! Who is better at counter striking then than chuck??

I never said chuck’s boxing was good, this isnt boxing its MMA? I said his striking was good, and you only have to look at his highlight real to see what i mean, i dont need your approval to see im right, you just need to realise that your WRONG!!!!! (plus iv never once said his defence was ggod, once again thats NOT striking!!)

Anderson does have a unique style in that unique means, individual, personal, special, different, all of which are traits of anderson’s style of striking, who else strikes like anderson?? And well done it is a good style!! I never once said it wasnt, I take it when anderson loses a couple he will no longer be a good striker?? IDIOT!!!!!!!!

Some guys just dont know when to “QUIT” they get into money hurts and dont mind a bruising.

Roy Jones, Loya, these guys have seen their best and thats been some years ago, too many youngsters with talent and heart and packing the punch and can take it too.

They need to stay retired for their families sake.

This new kid with all the weight he is just another fellow fm florida who not only looks like he is “Homeless” but shouldnt even be in their with these other pro’s if they win they are overnite stars, they havent earned it. Nor have they paid their dues.

Starting frm Gracies to shamrocks and on and on, these guys should never be put against some nobody, cause they should all have to have a real pro record and for so many years not in the streets, cause the streets are different, I know I have been security or a bouncer and in the arts for longer han most have been around. Yea, I am old, but experience or wisdom tells me that sharocks, lidell, and a few others should stay in the ring and leaqve the street fighters on their on their own league. MMA stands for Mixed Martial Arts, and not street the other guys are just street tough, and most have no MMA tng so get their own group started and let them fight other street fighters.
