UFC Quick Quote: BJ Penn vs Kenny Florian for lightweight title coming soon

penn florian

"It's time to kill that master."

-- Kenny Florian talks about his next challenge, UFC Lightweight Champion BJ Penn, during his post-fight comments after defeating Joe Stevenson at UFC 91: "Couture vs. Lesnar" via first round submission (rear naked choke) to earn the title shot. How soon he fights for the 155-pound title depends on the outcome of Penn's fight against Georges St. Pierre at UFC 94 on January 31 for his 170-pound belt. It will be Florian's second crack at the crown -- he dropped a unanimous decision to Sean Sherk in 2006 for the vacant division title.

oUt of curiosity, is anyone giving Florian a chance vs. BJ. Sorry, but I am not!

M’fin WAR BJ Penn!

The master is going to bitch slap the student!

lol I totally agree. Penn is the fckn man.

by pUniSHment on Nov 16, 2008 7:02 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

yeah, no doubt John. Florian is good but BJ wins that fight.

by LJ on Nov 16, 2008 7:53 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Kenny defintiely has a shot…BJ is great but not unbeatable. He has a solid arsenal of skills and has the smarts to give BJ fits.

by Buster Bluth on Nov 16, 2008 8:47 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

He has more than a chance. He put Joe Daddy away faster than BJ did. Kenny has gotten a lot better since he fought Sherk. All this talk about BJ having 2 belts, he might just have 0 belts after his next 2 fights.

by Gord on Nov 17, 2008 9:40 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

bj fought in three different weight divisions!!!he has his work cut out with st.pierre!! but florian? come on, i hope he smash that little shit for taking smack!! killing bjpenn…you lucky that haole no come to the islands!!!

by ikaika on Dec 2, 2008 3:21 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I really cant wait for this fight. I’ve been wanting Kenny to get a shot at the belt. After BJ got dominated against George and Kenny dominated Huerta and Joe, i think Kenny has a legit shot of winning this thing. It will no doubt be an upset, but im giving him better odds than most.

by Alex L on Feb 6, 2009 1:24 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

This will be a very good fight- i say it now remember it Kenny will take it..to all the bj fans that give Bj BJ’s, after GSP takes care of him Kenny will too..

by ricky on Nov 16, 2008 1:49 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

Bold statement. The florian one not the GSP one.

by NameNotRequired on Nov 16, 2008 1:59 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

lol, I’m a big Florian fan, but cmon guys, bj isn’t joe daddy and sure as shit isn’t huerta!

by kevin on Nov 16, 2008 2:40 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

kevin, i love bj, and hope he crushes GSP, but from a city like Boston, I can’t help but be a Homer. Kenny grew up like 2 towns away from me. I thought he would beat Joe Stevenson, but that shit was impressive. All the guys who started hating on him when he said he finishes fights….what’s up now. The kid doesn’t look like a fighter but he is for real. He used strategy in 1 fight to get a win against a tough opponent in Huerta in what he figured would be a fight to get him a title shot. cut him a break. If they fought again, I’m confident he would tap Huerta. Can’t wait to see the BJ fight. No winners or losers for me. I expect it to be a very good fight and I won’t be disappointed no matter who wins…(BJ)

by Crowls on Nov 16, 2008 4:24 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

BJ BJ BJ!!! When Kenny made his bold statements i just yawned and sipped my beer, “kill that master” LoL, are you kiddding me, why didnt he say these same things after the Huerta fight, BJ was there and hasnt faught since so nothing has changed, Florian/Huerta decided the #1 contender spot but he goes by the formula the UFC lays out for him, he doesnt really want a slice of the Penn pie.

by ( (AdamG ) ) on Nov 16, 2008 11:50 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

cmon crowls, I’m from there to buddy, but wouldn’t EVER bet against BJ!

by kevin on Nov 16, 2008 5:15 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Incorrect AdamG. While I think Penn takes this, I have the utmost respect for Florian. He fought JoeDaddy for two reasons. One, he wanted to stay active rather than wait for the several months after the Penn/GSP fight. Two, he has stated repeatedly that he wants to clean out the division before he gets another title shot so that there would be no doubt that he belongs there.

by chefdaddy on Nov 16, 2008 7:02 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Kevin, yea i wouldn’t bet against BJ either. I just think it has potential to be a decent fight. On the feet they both like to jab and maintain distance. Both have very good take down defense/ability to get up. BJ’s jitz is clearly better. Florian is more technical on the feet/uses more different strikes. He’s a tough kid. I think it has potential to be a sick fight but I could also see it looking alot like when Florian fought Diego once it hits the ground. BJ is a freak. I’m excited for this already. Imagine if they got MMA legalized in boston by then and had it at the Garden. It’ll probly go down in Vegas or Hawaii tho.

by Crowls on Nov 16, 2008 7:18 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

It’ll be interesting to see what the BJ nutthuggers have to say after he suffers back to back loses to GSP then KenFlo…I’m very much looking forward to it.

by Buster Bluth on Nov 16, 2008 8:50 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

agreed but right now Kenny is the best match up for BJ at 155

by Robert on Nov 16, 2008 1:56 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Well you’re half right ricky.

by LJ on Nov 16, 2008 7:53 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I was rootin’ for Stevenson only cuz I cant stand Kenny as a fighter. Hes using that whole “Machida elusive” style thats become all too popular nowadays. My rant aside, Kenny did what he was supposed to do; win the fight decisively. Good stuff – Now BJ can mop the ground with Florian. Can’t wait to see that.

by Timby on Nov 16, 2008 1:51 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

Why is everyone comparing Florian to Machida lately? The guy has only 1 decision in his last 6 fights. What does he have to do? Perform a “fatality” in every bout?

by JB on Nov 16, 2008 2:15 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

JB: I agree with you to some extent, but I guess the reason why he’s catching so much heat for this is because people had high expectations when he fought Huerta. When you constantly say that you finish fights, you better do just that. It wasn’t a dumb thing to try and distance himself from Huerta in the 3rd round, but that’s not what people wanna see.

by pUniSHment on Nov 16, 2008 2:19 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I for one was mad that he couldn’t put Huerta away. But I don’t hate the Machida style. It’s a strategy just like LnP – fighters need to find a way around it. It only raises the level of talent and gameplanning for the division.

by NameNotRequired on Nov 16, 2008 2:42 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Kill-Flo has nine wins in the octagon, and he finished eight of them. Show me another fighter, aside from Silva, who finishes fights at that rate.

by PW on Nov 16, 2008 12:57 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

KENNY FLORIAN FINISHES FIGHTS
I’d rather see a rematch with Huerta (so he can finish him) than him getting beat by BJ!

by kevin on Nov 16, 2008 2:41 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I wouldn’t be so worked up this if Kenny hadn’t constantly said he finishes fights. Kenny’s come a long way throughout his career, but it doesn’t even compare to what BJ will bring to the fight.

by pUniSHment on Nov 16, 2008 2:54 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

He went the distance one time against an explosively dangerous fighter. Ask Clay Guida if it is smart to press on Huerta when he looks hurt.
BTW he just finished Joe Daddy faster than BJ :b

by EazyEismydad on Nov 16, 2008 8:11 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

LMAO! I knew some shmuck was gonna put that up. Finished Joe faster huh, how much faster did BJ finish Sean Sherk than Florian??? BJ doesnt even wanna waste time with this kid LoL! Doesnt even remark back to Kenny or go into the ring or anything, just looks at the camera and pretty much laughs it off and promotes his “BJPENN.COM” T-Shirt with a buddy, no one cared except the 10 Kenny Florian fans that hang out on this site = ) BJ BJ BJ!!!

by ( (AdamG ) ) on Nov 16, 2008 11:57 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

adamG, who should fight Penn then? Who else should be the contender? Don’t hate on the guy just b/c he’s facing your boy, somebody has to do it.

fatality! ROFL

by RiverHorror on Nov 16, 2008 6:38 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

You know, these ignorant comments from people that know jack about the fight game should stop. Flo’s style in his last two fights now has been near perfect. Take NO damage, and win the fight decisively. BJ used the EXACT same style against Sherk, and then finished him when the time was right. These guys that comnplain about these trivial little BS details have never spent a moment on the mat or in the cage/ring, and will never be satisfied. (I wouldnt have to type near duplicate comments if Mr. Mania would stop blocking my stuff)

by --utaptout-- on Nov 16, 2008 5:20 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

What? Kenny brings it every fight and other than a very tough Huerta, he FINISHES fights. I don’t know how BJ fans can be so confident that BJ will walk right through Kenny. He took out Joe the exact same way BJ did, only he did it in 4 minutes and it took BJ 9 Minutes.

by Gord on Nov 17, 2008 10:01 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I really can’t stand B.J., but I don’t see Florian beating him. No chance of a submission, and very doubtful for a KO. I think he would have to win a 5 round decision. I also think Kenny would lose a rematch with Sherk, but it could be a better fight.

by naturalshadow on Nov 16, 2008 1:52 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

This, I have to disagree with. Florian is four times the fighter he was when Sherk bled all over the mat to win a decision.

by JB on Nov 16, 2008 2:16 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I don’t think kenny would be able to prevent Sherk’s takedowns. IMO, Sherk is the best fighter behind BJ in the lightweight division. I don’t like guys who “LnP”, but it most of the time equals decision wins.

by pUniSHment on Nov 16, 2008 2:22 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I agree.

by naturalshadow on Nov 16, 2008 10:30 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I bet BJ laughed while Florian said that. BJ Penn has more way of “killing Kenny” than the creators of South Park ever did. BJ Penn is the fckn man.

by pUniSHment on Nov 16, 2008 1:58 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

The one thing i would wager though is that Florian will be first person to cut him.

by NameNotRequired on Nov 16, 2008 3:01 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Maybe. Those kinda things are unpredictable.

by pUniSHment on Nov 16, 2008 3:05 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

BJ sweats nothing. I only hope he doesn’t look past Florian. In an interview after the Sherk fight, he had said it would be difficult to get motivated to train hard to fight the winner of Florian/Huerta. I hope thats not the case, because Florian is definitely the real deal now. It will not be an easy fight, especially if BJ takes him too lightly.

by --utaptout-- on Nov 16, 2008 5:12 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

a loss to gsp is no big deal, he can go back to 55, a loss to florian is a big deal.

by big billy on Nov 16, 2008 2:40 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

That’s true. But I really can’t see how/why Florian can beat BJ at this moment in time. BJ’s fought much tougher competition throughout his career, and I seriously doubt he’s “ducking” kenny.

by pUniSHment on Nov 16, 2008 2:49 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

An absolutely positively ridiculous statement. Dude, get a clue.

by --utaptout-- on Nov 16, 2008 5:13 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

BJ is not ducking Florian!! He is going to 170 to avenge a loss, and if he beats gsp he beleives he will be the best p4p fighter in the world!

by belfort_fan on Nov 16, 2008 2:20 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Ducking Florian? He has been garunteed his rematch with GSP since, he fought sherK. GSP is a way better fight for the fans and BJ. Besides Kenny is the one who called out a guy who is already signed to fight in january, so he can sit and wait or shut the hell up

You my friend are a tool. I don’t mind people not liking Penn, but please tell us why you don’t think he will win. I have to say that GORD is probably the most sensitive GSP fan on this site and I can’t stand him, but he does offer intelligent inforamtion and ideas, and that’s what this site should be about.

Gangsta! Yup, Gord is the elastic that holds Georges spandex up = ) But at least he makes decent points and keeps that conversation interesting. Its like me saying “Kenny looks like hes made out of tooth picks” or “Kenny is the kind of fighter that prays for cuts cause hes not a real fighter” no, wait, neither of those will work, both are true. BJ BJ BJ!!!

by LJ on Nov 16, 2008 7:55 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

LJ, get a clue. AdamG is very BJ biased, but at least his arguments are valid and thought out. Meanwhile you come along, being a guy we don’t hear from, and post that nonsense and we’re supposed to lend you any credibility? There’s the door. Don’t let it hit you on the @$$ on the way out.

by --utaptout-- on Nov 17, 2008 1:11 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

You cant call someone a tool for thinking BJ would lose. Call him a tool cause he thinks BJ is ducking him!!!

by belfort_fan on Nov 16, 2008 2:22 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

This is definitely the best Florian I’ve ever seen… I don’t think he can beat BJ, but he’s definitely game and I can see him causing BJ problems that no other 155lbr can cause for him at this time.

by THORAZINE on Nov 16, 2008 2:41 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

Kenny did look impressive, especially in his striking and how quickly he was able to mount Joe. But IMO, he won’t be able to take BJ down, and any of those leg kicks he might attempt to throw will result in a takedown for BJ and a submission loss for Kenny.

by pUniSHment on Nov 16, 2008 2:46 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Exactly. Kenny will not be able to put BJ on his back, and the fight will be controlled by Penn.

by --utaptout-- on Nov 16, 2008 5:15 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

but once bj takes kenny down it’s hell-bows to the melon for bj; and bj’s got a big melon.

by JB on Nov 16, 2008 3:30 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Kenny got one elbow from the bottom against Sherk. You can’t ever say thats going to end a fight. If thats the only chance you give Kenflo, you might want to reevaluate your position.

by --utaptout-- on Nov 16, 2008 5:14 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

bj will kill kenhoe its just a formality, its gonna be ugly guarenteed, unlesss bj even defends it after beating gsp

by LG on Nov 16, 2008 2:58 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

did anyone else notice how baked bj looked when the camera panned to him? i think the only reason he didn’t storm the cage and offer his two sense after the kill the master statement was because he was too high to offer a rebuttle.

by --utaptout-- on Nov 16, 2008 3:39 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Hi, this is my first post here on this forum, blog.

I couldn’t help myself being quite annoyed by all this blind love that many people here give to BJ Penn (And in another similar line of a different subject, Anderson Silva) subjects after subjects after subjects. It’s really bothering.

First of all, to make things clear, I like both of these men as fighters a lot, but I don’t see them as invincible as many people do…

I can’t understand why people compare Kenny Florian to a snooze fest like Machida!!!?? Kenny is tactical and technical in his offense and his game plan, he doesn’t ram into his opponents recklessly and he is a smart fighter who always comes up with a game plan based on his opponent weaknesses Vs his strengths. He doesn’t always come in with very same strategy and his opponents doesn’t know months before the fight what he is going to do, like it is the case with a Liddell, Hughes etc… He is in the line of a GSP, Randy Couture, Rashad Evans, Fedor Emelianenko etc… He fights intelligent fights, but he is able to keep them interesting and very fun to watch.

I think his title match is overdue BUT, it gave him more time to bring his game up to a level where it’s never been! And I’m really hyped up for this fight between Florian and BJ Penn, that I like as a fighter but I hate as a person. This should be a good one!! Both are versatile, smart fighters with similar forces in my book.

I already picked GSP to win the dream match on December 31, it gives me another reason to pray for GSP to win: So this great lightweight title fight will probably come sooner.

by Syxx on Nov 16, 2008 11:00 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

whats the better match up?

Bj vs Kenny

by sickicks on Nov 16, 2008 1:51 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

It’s going to be hard for Kenny to be running his mouth with BJ’s hand in his f*ckin’ mouth.

by xxBAxx816 on Nov 16, 2008 2:15 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

If there is ONE person in the UFC that is good at running his damn mouth, it’s BJ Penn!!! The guy is a complete idiot!

After seeing Liddell get KTFO (By Rampage), my second dream in MMA would be to see Penn get the beating of a lifetime just so he might learn to get down to earth and shut the f**k up!!! Or then again, would he? He would probably find some cheap-ass excuse to explain his defeat, like all his goddamn nuthuggers would do.

by Syxx on Nov 16, 2008 2:20 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Geez man, did he run over your cat or something?

by --utaptout-- on Nov 16, 2008 5:14 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

So in your second post on this blog, you say the word “nuthugger”. Please make sure this is also your last post, if thats the way you’re going to talk. The term Nuthugger is used by people who can’t come up with a valid argument in support of the fighter they like, and they ruin a place where people like to have educated debates that are actually worth something.

by --utaptout-- on Nov 16, 2008 3:28 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

BJ will obviously be the favorite in this fight. And I must admit I’m a huge BJ fan, but honestly I think Florian presents some problems for BJ. Florian has much greater range, signifigantly better kicks, more technical muy thai, and better foot work. BJ has to get inside to do anything, and Florian is great at striking and moving away. Florian is great on the ground too, and while BJ has the advantage in BJJ on paper, I think Florian should be fine if and when they hit the ground. But BJ is BJ, it’s difficult to hurt the guy, and if he is on and motivated there isn’ anybody more dangerous at 155.

by MongoMan on Nov 16, 2008 2:16 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

BJ’s striking doesn’t look that technical, but it really is. The fact that he has taken little to no damage in the standup throughout his career is a great indicator of that. I see BJ getting a TD, then the mount, and then eventually submitting Kenny, after he softens him up with some ground and pound. Kenny has a great ground game, but its not on BJ’s level. BJ’s BJJ, and wrestling are on a higher level. Its the same old story on this fight. The only way BJ loses, is if he beats himself by not training hard. If he truly wants to be known as the best ever, he’ll have to continue to train hard for every guy he takes on. I think his legacy is extremely important to him at this point, and I think he’ll probably go undefeated at 155 for as long as he fights there.

by --utaptout-- on Nov 16, 2008 3:36 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I don’t actually disagree with you. My observations are in fact based on the idea of Florian able to execute the types of things I see him doing against other opponents. And like I said BJ is the favorite.

Kenny will deliver all the bad karma that Baby J’s been building up for himself over the years. The globe tap trick BJ delivered to Joe Daddy was disgraceful, but no-one ever says anything because he’s the Manny Ramirez of MMA.

I couldn’t be more impressed with Florian’s development as a fighter.

However, he is not in BJ Penn’s league, not by a long shot, and he will, beyond a shadow of a doubt, get finished by Penn if they ever fight. His only chance at victory is by cut stoppage, but BJ isn’t a bleeder.

I respect Florian’s game a lot. I still think Sherk would give him a ton of trouble, but now he could find a way to win that fight, given how much he’s improved. Don’t know if I’d make him a favorite over Sherk, though.

But here’s the hard cold facts:

1. He can’t strike with BJ in terms of real power exchanges. Florian is elusive and mixes it up well, but BJ can really hurt him on his feet and he can’t hurt BJ because he doesn’t hit hard, he’s just smart and accurate. But he can run forever. BJ will catch him.

2. He can’t take BJ down. BJ can take him down. Enough said.

3. Florian has great jits. BJ Penn has the best jits in MMA. Only Demain Maia is in his league, IMO. BJ would OWN Florian on the ground. There is no doubt in the world about this.

BJ Penn is a terrible match up for Florian, the worst imaginable. But I do want to see it happen since he called him out. Since BJ will be fresh off a win over GSP, that would probably make Florian the biggest underdog in title history.

But you gotta give Florian credit. He’s a hell of a competitor and one of the smartest fighters I’ve ever seen.

Good analysis. I like both guys too. Kenny without a doubt has earned a shot at Penn. Penn is an obvious favorite but Kenny will give him a fight.

RevJames13, I have read a few of your comments on a few threads, and I will say that you are a very objective and enlightened fan of the sport. You offer terrific insights about the fights Ive seen you post on. I was curious about something though: There was a small fight promoter/fighter that put on a couple amateur MMA shows in Cairo, NY. Several guys that I trained with fought at his shows. He happened to be a reverend whose nickname was “Rev”, and I can’t be sure, but I think his name might have been James. I know its a big longshot, but I was wondering if that is you.

All you BJ haters keep saying the same shit from way back when!He was gonna lose to Pulver,Joe daddy,& Sherk which all you non believers were so wrong on all kinds of levels. BJ’s gonna bloody the octagon with GSP’s face, then use Kenny to mop the floor! Any one who disagrees is in serious denial…808 state fighters 4 LIFE!

I think Penn will win both fights as well. But seriously, did you really use your area code? lol. C’mon man, that is so lame it’s hilarious.

It’s a slang .We use the numbers 808 for a lot of Hawaii base things.Like 808 Tattoos,808 Fight club, etc.FYI 808 area code represents all the Hawaiian Islands put together not just one.The Big Island,Oahu,Maui all of them.So when I say 808 state fighters,I’m giving props to all the fighters in the Hawaiian chain of islands…..

How about you just agree with me & then shut up.It’s a slang we use for Hawaii base things like 808 Tattoos,or 808 Fight club, etc.By your response sounds like you don’t know that we’re a chain of islands. What did you think? That my area code pin-pointed a specific area in Hawaii?LOL!FYI, 808 represents all the Hawaiian Islands, doesn’t matter which one you live on or what town your from.I’m just giving props to our fighters!

No one argues that Kenny hasnt won. Hes a game fighter. He’ll show up with a plan and “fight.” When it comes to the question of “Does he, Kenny, press the action?” The answer is most likely “No.” Kenny capitalizes on those fighter who DO press the action. Lauzon, Huerta, and Stevenson were all fighters that wanted to engage in action. In all of these 3 fights Kenny backed out, was “elusive” ala Machida, and picked his punches. Kenny won, but give credit to Lauzon, Huerta, and Stevenson because if these 3 fighters didn’t go forward, there would be no excitement/fight. My rule of thumb: in a Mirror match, would KenFlo Vs KenFlo be an ticket seller? An exciting fight? A snooze fest? I Say the 3rd.

IF Kenny can rock BJ, Kenny does have some fairly strong GnP. Anything can happen in MMA!

BJ talks too much smack – he’ll be driven through the mat with GSP and Kenny stands a good chance of beating him too. As usual, BJ yammers and yammers and yammers . . . suddenly no belts and two straight defeats . . . cry boys your hero is going down!!

kenny florian has been not given much credit since he entered the ufc. He has evolved with every fight and has proven alot of people wrong. Now this is his time to prove to himself.

in 2004 he lost to sanchez in tuf 1 at 185 lb. (kenny had little striking at that time and sanchez outclassed him.) kenny is a great striker now.

He lost to sherk in 2006 for the 155 lb title. Sherk used his superior wrestling to win. (kenny had very little wrestling at that time but look at his wrestling now.)

in my opinion, both these guys were on the juice.

kenny has won 6 in a row after that and his last three guys are contenders.

BJ Penn is a champion and Kenny knows he is the best 155lb mma guy.

no one is betting against BJ but Kenny is no chump, he is the real deal. if bj does not take kenny seriosly, he will lose.

this is kenny’s shot and he is taking bj seriosly.

thanks!

Seriously u BJ nuthuggers are soooo off if u think BJ’s gonna win…just like he was going to dominate GSP….and dominate Matt Hughes in their rematch
Kenny is an all around fighter who has a lot of great factors: he is good off his back, his striking is crisp, when he mounts u, ur done, and he has one thing that BJ doesnt have….CARDIO!!!!
BJ doesnt even have his head straight for this fight, he’s still bitching about his loss to GSP, and not taking Kenny as seriously as he should
Im gonna say Kenny TKO or Sub 3rd round

Watch Kenny knock that klown down.
Bj’s gonna take da same beating he did from George St. Pierre.
Yall think Kennys not strong watch him.

I hope I’m not posting this twice or somewhere else. If so, I apologize.

I respect BJ as one of the best and most talented fighters in the sport and one of the best fighters to ever step into the ring for an MMA fight.

That being said, I personally hate his guts. I hate his mouth. It disgusts me that every time he fights, he speaks as though his opponent is a personal enemy and a piece of shit and that a victory for BJ will be a triumph of all things good in the world; a blow for truth, justice, and The American Way. I know some fighters have to get emotionally involved to perform, but BJ always comes off like spoiled rich kid that believes his right to win is divine. I hate that anytime he loses (which is admittedly, rare) he acts like the natural order of the universe has been violated. I was certain he’d have a song-and-dance after he got dominated by GSP. I mean, I KNEW he’d have some big excuse and sure enough… Greasegate. I’m aware that one can make an argument that such pre-fight shit-talking help to hype the event and make it more interesting (BJ has said the same himself) but this isn’t the WWF (ha… or is it, Brock?). All that being said, he’s still on my short list of best fighters.

I am not a fan-boy of Kenny Florian but ojectively I believe if anyone right now can beat BJ, it is Kenny. I’ve thought so for awhile now. I’ve watched him progress over the years and I don’t see any weakness in his game at present. He is a vicious, competent striker and his ground game is incredible. I also don’t see any one area where BJ has an extraordinary advantage (unless you count that eerie, almost super-human flexibility BJ has when weathering takedown attempts). I am NOT saying Kenny is better than BJ at any one thing, I am just saying I don’t see a super advantage for BJ in any one area (like we saw with BJ’s striking vs. Sherk; and yeah, I’m aware of Sherk Vs Florian but fights DON’T play out that way and we know it). Also, this is absolutely the best time for Florian to beat BJ since I think BJ’s head is probably all over the place and out of whack right now. But… and it is a bigger butt than the one that I sit on, I still wouldn’t want to predict this fight. You can’t BJ out, ever, esp at this weight. My gut tells me BJ will win if he keeps his head on straight. I will be watching this fight for sure.
