anyone else think that punch landed in the back of Randy’s head? not that i care…its just punches to the back of the head while fighters are standing is never ever called by the refs…what you think, behind the ear?
by newfie on Nov 16, 2008 11:09 AM EST reply actions 0 recs
It’s called the temple. Also, that part of the “back of the head” is not the dangerous part. Imagine it like a mohican. Mohican down the back of the ead, that’s the dangerous part.
by Adam on Nov 16, 2008 11:12 AM EST up reply actions 0 recs
wrong. the hit landing at the base of his skull BEHIND the ear which is not your temple. the same shot GSP took from Serra and Grove took from Cote. Imagine wearing a set of headphones and anything behind the band is illegal

No, the headphones analogy is wrong. Many experts have said so, the mohican one is correct. Joe Rogan has said so multiple times. While the headphone analogy is useful, it is not entirely accurate. The shot was almost vertically up from the ear, slightly behind it, temple area is just in front of and just behind ear
by Adam on Nov 16, 2008 12:21 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
yea ok buddy tell yourself that
by knee to the nads on Nov 16, 2008 9:56 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
I have heard Big John McCarthy himself say that the headphone analogy is incorrect. BJM would have to be the go to guy on things like this.

can’t call it standing becuase fighters duck into them, unlike in the ground position
by Robert on Nov 16, 2008 1:59 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
and THAT! is all that matters. so everyone else can shut up about the “back of the head” crap
by Anthony on Nov 16, 2008 5:50 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Yep, Shannon Lee. Gotta give respect to the daughter of the man who really started the idea of cross training in various styles of martial arts. Bruce is a legend.

exact same shot GSP took from Serra…not the temple at all Adam…behind the ear..not even close to the temple actually shit did u watch the fight?
by newfie on Nov 16, 2008 11:57 AM EST reply actions 0 recs
Was it behind the ear? Yes. Was it intentional? Absolutely not. It hit there b/c Randy was trying to move his head out of the way. So, IMO, it wasn’t illegal at all.
by chefdaddy on Nov 16, 2008 12:04 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Sorry, newfie, that comment was for the guys up above who were saying that punch was illegal. Ridiculous.
by chefdaddy on Nov 16, 2008 12:05 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Besides what is crying and complaining going to do about the end result of the fight? The fight is over and there is a new champ. Even if the ref had called that punch and gave him time to recover Brock would have still won the fight. Randy looked a lot bigger and had a lot more muscle when he fought Gonzaga. It looks like father time finally caught up with him because he looked dried up.
by jimmy_dean on Nov 16, 2008 1:45 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
I wouldn’t say Randy looked dried up. He looked to be a lot more of a threat to Brock than Herring ever did.
by naturalshadow on Nov 16, 2008 11:21 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
i was one of the first to post about the shot that dropped him. it sucks, because it WAS legal, but i wouldn’t call it a clean shot. even randy said in the post fight press conference that he tried to slip the punch, and nearly did so, but was a tad too slow and brock’s reach was that big on him.

If it were not for the UFC and Dana White the sport would not be bigger than boxing as it is now in The United States.
by jimmy_dean on Nov 16, 2008 1:37 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
You could make the argument that without the UFC there would never be MMA in the first place.
by naturalshadow on Nov 16, 2008 11:24 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
I’ll give you credit for saying that. Not b/c it holds ANY merit. Just b/c it takes balls the size of churchbells to say something SO f’in stupid. That’s a top 10 dumbest post on Mania IMO.
by chefdaddy on Nov 16, 2008 12:39 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Show how little you know about Dana and the UFC, “joe”. Your comment is baseless! Go take your unwarranted hating somewhere else.

is it just me or is everyone named joe legally retarded?

I have a question. Does anyone honestly think that Nog can beat Lesnar? There is no doubt in my mind that Nog will destroy Mir and Nog will get to fight Lesnar so how will Nog beat Lesnar? His neck and arms are too big to get an armbar or a RNC and I don’t think that he will make the same mistake that he made with Mir leaving his leg out there for grabs. Nog’s jits is top notch but to think that his wrestling is even as good as Randy’s is crazy talk. Thoughts?
by jimmy_dean on Nov 16, 2008 1:33 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
I guess you’ll be tremendously surprised then when Mir beats Lesnar for the second time come April…

Dana, I’m hooked on these video blogs of yours. It shows how chill you are with everyone. It also shows your love, excitement and professionalism for MMA. Keep introducing us to the cats behind the scenes too. Great stuff!

Was a legit hit your smoking rocks if you think otherwise.
by Khaos_Warrior on Nov 16, 2008 4:12 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
That was a clean punch. Very similar to the one Serra hit GSP with, like some other posters have said above. You guys know I’m a huge GSP fan, but I’ve never said that the punch Serra hit him with wasn’t clean. Now, is that the spot that Serra and Brock were trying to hit their opponents with? Probably not. But shit happens, and that’s part of the fight game.
