he gots a real live belt not a fake wwe belt.. congrads brock and i hope mir and lesnar do it again

by mikeybear on Nov 16, 2008 11:41 PM EST up reply actions

Yeah, lol. You know he’s hating looking at a belt that he never lost, being held by a guy that’s new to the sport who he just beat.

by chefdaddy on Nov 16, 2008 12:33 PM EST up reply actions

he lost his belt in his first fight back..and his 2nd. title fight or not he got ko’d twice. mir is not winning another important fight in the ufc.

by josh on Nov 16, 2008 4:41 PM EST up reply actions

No he didn’t. He won the belt from Big Tim, got in a motorcycle accident. In the time he was injured, Arlovski won the interim belt. AA and Mir were scheduled to fight, but Mir wasn’t healthy enough yet, so he was stripped of the belt, he never lost it. You were correct in that he lost his first two fights back, they simply weren’t title matches.

Looking forward to seeing Brock improve with every fight and proving to all of the Lesnar haters that he does deserve to be in MMA even though he had a PREVIOUS career in WWE. WWE makes NO impact on the guys heart and effort he’s making to improve himself for MMA.

by Jason Moore on Nov 16, 2008 4:17 AM EST reply actions

thank you…. the dude is completely for real.

by Charlie Wilson on Nov 16, 2008 12:36 PM EST up reply actions

I hope everyone will drop the whole “WWE” thing now. Give it up, It doesn’t matter anymore. He just KO’ed the champ, who was a 3 time HW champ, a living legand, a H.O.F.’er.“WWE” does not matter anymore.

by iagoof22 on Nov 16, 2008 1:31 PM EST up reply actions

exactly. People should give the guy props. Hes not backing down from anyone. He takes every challenge thrown his way. He hasnt gotten any pushover fights yet like crocop and some other guys have taken in the past.

by djhbv23 on Nov 16, 2008 6:43 PM EST up reply actions

Brock has proved himself I think the fans recognize that. He is a warrior and the hard work he’s been putting in earned him that belt. The Brock of 3 fights ago would have lost for certain, but this Brock we saw against Randy was certainly much improved. I hope he keeps on learning and improving (perhaps for a Fedor fight, after of course after Mir and hopefully Velasquez, and possibly dos Santos as well).

by the matt king on Nov 17, 2008 12:22 PM EST up reply actions

I think the lack of experience bothers ppl. more so than the WWE career. It’s hard to look @ the guy, after fighting less pro fights than you can count on one hand and feel that he DESERVES the belt after so little time. Hey, he did what he needed to do to win—and it’s not like he placed himself in that position, but I understand the resentment a lot of fans must feel towards him b/c of his overall lack of knowledge of MMA and inexperience, coupled with the fact that now he’s the HW Champ.

by Dayman Fan on Nov 16, 2008 4:20 PM EST up reply actions

No… there are alot more people throwing WWE around than the experience complaint.

by Psyqo78®™ on Nov 16, 2008 5:28 PM EST up reply actions

That has to be weird for Mir to sit there and ask him about being the new champ. I am sure it has to eat at him too.

by naturalshadow on Nov 16, 2008 4:17 AM EST reply actions

I was thinking that it must be awkward too. Frank handled himself well, though.

by RyanHobbs on Nov 16, 2008 4:54 AM EST up reply actions

WOW, I never thought I would say this, but I’m slowly becoming a fan! He comes off very good in this interview! He knows how to sell a fight and be a heel! His WWE days did him well in that aspect! This interview, he came off humble and respectful, and almost seemed like he didn’t want to look a Mir. I don’t know, the guy got out wrestled (in my opinion) and then out boxed and stood with Randy.
Everyone saying Randy should drop to 205, are you crazy? Rampage, wand, chuck, even anderson silva all knock him out. I don’t know what’s next for him! Definitelty not Fedor!!!

by kevin on Nov 16, 2008 4:19 AM EST reply actions

well maybe im the only one shocked of this outcome, i really thought randy could bring this into the later rounds, brocks chin, well couture landed a few, but i think we need a more significant heavy, nothing against randy, to test that chin! big nog prob will not test the chin, i think d mega fight will be a building of carwin after this heavyweight tournament is over, if lesnar defeats the winner of mir/nog – go nog! first ufc ive ever watched at a pub, and low and behold a fight breaks out afterwards, im back to ordering in at home, who needs the jocks on juice acting hard, bad rep for the sport!

by jslim on Nov 16, 2008 4:23 AM EST reply actions

I watched the fights at a restaraunt. The place was packed and everyone was going insane during Brock and Randys fight. Everyone was routing for Randy too. Myself included. My hats off to Brock. He is a great competitor and I can’t wait to see him fight the winner of Frank and Nog.

by RyanHobbs on Nov 16, 2008 4:53 AM EST up reply actions

“His chin hasn’t been tested” is one of the dumbest cliches in MMA. It’s not supposed to be tested! That’s not any different than saying something like “BJ’s air hasn’t been tested, let’s see how good he is when someone sinks a guillotine on him.” He’s not supposed to put himself in that position! Sheesh.

by Pat on Nov 16, 2008 8:36 AM EST up reply actions

don’t forget about Gonzaga. I think the two guys to beat Lesnar are Mir and Gonzaga cuz of their size and jits. Lesnar/Mir II, I’ve been saying it and now it’s halfway here to reality.

by Anthony on Nov 16, 2008 9:27 AM EST up reply actions

What are you talking about? Do you really think Mir is going to get past Nog? i dont

good post Kevin. I agree on all counts!

by john on Nov 16, 2008 10:06 AM EST up reply actions

Dana needs to end this charade and sign Fedor. I know there are some obsticles as far as the contract is concearned but it needs to be done. He would hold the heavy weight and possibly the light heavy weightbelts for a while if came over.

by protecdvs.com on Nov 16, 2008 4:39 AM EST reply actions

But Fedor’s demands are rediculous. He wants a million per fight, he wants to compete in Sambo tournaments, and sign eight of his teammates. Fedor may be the best in the world, but he doesn’t deserve that much. Fedor will be in the UFC if he doesn’t have such rediculous demands.

by DB on Nov 16, 2008 9:50 AM EST up reply actions

Once again Fedor does not have the fight in the UFC to prove he is the best HW in the world, and as for his demnads he wants free reign over his own status to fight in his country’s tournaments, he should be applauded for being so humble to compete for little or no money to support his discipline.

by Bigmcmac on Nov 16, 2008 11:43 AM EST up reply actions

Thank you Bigmcmac!! Just b/c he has a lot of demands does not mean they’re ridiculous, not to him. He probably views the restrictions the UFC would put on him as equally ridiculous.

by chefdaddy on Nov 16, 2008 12:17 PM EST up reply actions

He will eventually have to fight in UFC if he truly wants to keep the title of “best hw in the world”. He did destroy Tim, and fighting Arlovski is a dream match up, but after that the only up and coming top hw’s are in the UFC. Lesnar, Carwin, Velasquez, and a few others could all be possible champs. Anyone who wants to fight the best competition will have to fight in the UFC because that is where all the talent is.

by naturalshadow on Nov 16, 2008 4:44 PM EST up reply actions

hmmm, we’ll have to disagree on this one. Lesnar, Carwin, and Velasquez aren’t exactly experienced vets, but they do have great potential. They’re are a ton of top HW’s NOT in the UFC.

by chefdaddy on Nov 16, 2008 5:22 PM EST up reply actions

Guess what Boys, FACT is the best Heavyweights are not in the UFC. THe UFC has solid up and comers in its stable like Carwin, Brock and Vallasquez, but they are all years away from being any match for Fedor.

UFC has NO REAL Heavyweights besides Nogueira.

Mir = Trash, I would rank him between 12-20
Randy = Shriveled up raisin, He is DONE!!!
Kongo would ge submitted in 10 seconds
Hearing = Been there destroyed that!
Gonzaga = too inconsistent

Match ups for Fedor outside of the UFC are much more interesting:

BigFoot silva
Arlovski
Barnett
Werdum

These heavyweights would tear up all the UFC heavyweights except Nogueira.

Doesnt look like it makes much sense for Fedor to come to the UFC. THe big challenges from him are not in the UFC.

BTW, Chefdaddy, bigmcmac: Great post guys! and instead of bashing Fedor he should be praised for trying to give back to his home land, even if it infringes on his success!

by john on Nov 16, 2008 5:45 PM EST up reply actions

What about that guy that KO Werdum pretty good up and comer I believe his name is Dos Santos.

by hk on Nov 17, 2008 1:19 AM EST up reply actions

Yeah i agree DB, that is just too much to ask for.

by belfort_fan on Nov 16, 2008 2:12 PM EST up reply actions

WOW, i don’t care what u brock haters say….. he is the real deal, his NCAA means a lot more than his pro WWE days mean, sure i would of been glad if randy won….. but as a betting man i knew brock would come out ahead, brock is a real deal and his true MMA career will be proved against bid nog, for i can not see him losing to mir, myself picked lesner over the natural, that being said i’m no lesnar fan by any means, i would be more than happy to see his day come to an end. by the end of this “tournament” i would be extatic if nog came up on top.

Yeah he was nervous…. 4th pro fight and your in there with Couture, nerves are justified. He definitely worked through them though.

by joe on Nov 16, 2008 8:13 AM EST reply actions

The guy is a tank… Plain and simple. I love Randy, but Brock was just a beast, an absolute beast. He won it fair and square the only thing was is why and the hell was he in there? I would like to win one lose one and have a title shot. Granted he was on his way for it but after two fights and one loss. Never should have been in there.

Congrats Brock, enjoy it I think you will be there for a while.

by Flow with the Go on Nov 16, 2008 8:14 AM EST reply actions

I mostly agree. As for “why was he there?”…it doesn’t matter, he won. Anytime a guy wins a fight there’s no reason to question whether or not he belonged in there. Nate Quarry vs Rich Franklin….Nate did not belong, as an example.

by Jason on Nov 16, 2008 10:28 AM EST up reply actions

Don’t forget that Randy got a title shot agianst Sylvia after coming off a lose. So why all the BS about Lesnar. He proved he deserved to be in there, IMO.

by Djs3467 on Nov 16, 2008 10:45 AM EST up reply actions

Randy got a title shot against sylvia after coming off TWO losses.

by chefdaddy on Nov 16, 2008 12:18 PM EST up reply actions

No, chefdaddy, it’s just one loss he was coming off before fighting Sylvia. Look it up if you’re so inclined.

does anyone notice, how mir is so professional when he does the commentating, but when he’s on TUF he’s a complete tool? itw like two different mirs…professional mir, and douchebag mir.

by allamerican on Nov 16, 2008 8:22 AM EST reply actions

I think that’s because on TUF he doesn’t have ESPN in his ear telling him what to say. If true, that would mean the “Dick Mir” on TUF is the real Frank.

by JimmyC on Nov 16, 2008 8:47 AM EST up reply actions

i thinks also editing. they are filming for 8+ hours a day, then they splice that into an hour long show. if they want to make someone look like the heel, they have plenty of footage to work with.

by kitsunex on Nov 16, 2008 1:22 PM EST up reply actions

I think it’s because its TUF where all of his fighters are acting like douches for ratings so he sorta reduces to that level. Mir’s a class act.

by Anthony on Nov 16, 2008 9:29 AM EST up reply actions

I really don’t think the guys on TUF act like that for ratings.

by chefdaddy on Nov 16, 2008 12:23 PM EST up reply actions

I think Dana may have told him to create a little heat between himself and Nog to help promote the fight.

by PW on Nov 16, 2008 1:14 PM EST up reply actions

I am much happier that he was much more gracious with this win then with the Heath Herring win. I was somewhat torn going into this between Brocks somewhat Tank Abbot attitude in victory over Herring and Randy’s show me the money mentality of the past year. This interview and his actions at the end of the fight were much more in the spirit of true MMA competition.

by Da Monkey on Nov 16, 2008 8:30 AM EST reply actions

cartoon character with limited skills. MMA fans want to see real mma fighters. Randy is the real deal and had the big guy gassed however like the saying goes anybody can get caught.

by EMM on Nov 16, 2008 8:46 AM EST reply actions

Explain yourself… of course Randy is the real deal, but he is also at the end of his awesome career. And how is Brock not a real mma fighter? He is in a top-notch camp, has been training hard for the last two years, and utilizes both stand-up and ground skills. He dominated Mir and got caught in a submission…he dominated Heath, and now he overpowered Randy for the title.

Face it haters…Brock is now the man in the heavyweight division. I only see him ever losing by a slick submission artist…a very big, strong, experienced submission artist. It might be Nog or Mir, but I still think Brock will beat either of them. His size and power are just too much.

by Eric on Nov 16, 2008 9:03 AM EST up reply actions

This has nothing to do with hate. Coming from an athletes point of view Brock is one dimensional and i do not see him progressing much. Brock was gassed and would not be able to handle Randy in the later rounds. He did what he needed to win. I do not think Brock will ever evolve into a well rounded fighter. Lets see if he can prove me wrong.

by EMM on Nov 16, 2008 10:06 AM EST up reply actions

Keep hating, and when Brock beats Nog or Mir your going to say he got lucky. And when they finally get Fedor in here in 2 years and a “one dementional” Brock beats him you will say it was fixed or some BS like that. Atleast give this one dementional figher some props for beating somebody he shouldnt have in ur mind.

by Fokman on Nov 16, 2008 11:34 AM EST up reply actions

I give him props for beating Randy, but your dizzy dude. Nog will submit brock faster than you can say “its all over” Brock will not ko Nog, its never been done, and Nogs jits is better than any HW in the UFC Saying Brock would beat Fedor is funny. Never going to happen. Study some Fedor and Nog footage and, re think your statement.

by rctrue on Nov 16, 2008 1:28 PM EST up reply actions

“Had he gassed” is a bad arguement. That’s like saying I would’ve kicked your @ss if you hadn’t knocked me out first.

by chefdaddy on Nov 16, 2008 12:26 PM EST up reply actions

Thank you! I hate hypotheticals.

“If he would have gassed”
“If he didn’t gas”
“If his cut would have been opened up more”
“If this guy hadn’t gotten injured”
“If only there were a few more seconds on the clock”
“If he didn’t get a point taken away”
“If he had only followed the gameplan”

If, if, if… It didn’t fucking happen, so who gives a shit?

by Pat on Nov 17, 2008 10:37 AM EST up reply actions

Cartoon character? Like Bugs Bunny ever won a NCAA wrestling championship. Limited skills? A world-class wrestler who just won the UFC Heavyweight title with strikes. Hmmm….

by Jake Leduc on Nov 17, 2008 2:48 AM EST up reply actions

Forget it. Some ppl will never get it. Wrestlers always get the raw end of the deal. If you’re an ADCC-level grappler or a K-1 level striker crossing over to MMA, you’re the second coming of Christ. But if you’re a world-class wrestler, you’re “just a wrestler with no skills”.

by Pat on Nov 17, 2008 10:40 AM EST up reply actions

why the hell would fedor rather appease the American fans and not those in his own country? He wont give up his Sambo tournaments because he loves his country and his style of fighting. How does preferring to fight for peanuts in your own country make you a pussy? In my book that makes you F’in man!

Preach on M.B. Why should he come to the UFC anyway. He’s beaten Nog twice, Lesnar needs SERIOUS time and training before he even thinks about that match. Hey FOKMAN, who in the UFC other than Nog should he bother fighting? There are more and BETTER HW’s outside the UFC.

by medecine balls on Nov 16, 2008 6:12 PM EST up reply actions

couture is 45 years old.
he actually controlled a lot of the fight.
brock won’t have to face today’s top guys… i see why dana was anxious to get rid of sylvia, werdum who owns gonzaga but got caught recently. and i won’t mention fedor.
i also won’t mention BIG NOG, or MIR even though he was sitting right there,
but.
yea,
sure
Brock is the champ.

by patrickgamil on Nov 16, 2008 12:34 PM EST reply actions

Dana didn’t get rid of Sylvia because he is afraid of him beating Brock, he got rid of Sylvia because he is amazingly boring to watch. He also lost his last 2 in the UFC to Randy and Nog, so Sylvia wasn’t going to be a factor in this 4 man competition, especially since he lost to all 3 of the fighters in the contest that he faced.

by naturalshadow on Nov 16, 2008 4:57 PM EST up reply actions

anyway nog will outstrike mir, and then decide whether to stop lesnar by cut, stoppage, limb removal.

by patrickgamil on Nov 16, 2008 12:36 PM EST reply actions

i do think lesnar is exciting though… he has some skillz.
that was an interesting match up btwn couture and lesnar.
it looked like randy was too old to control such a strong man, although he had the skill
brock:
he’s actually not such a great wrestler as i thought though.
he had to grab the cage.

i sure hope that the nog mir winner takes on lesnar as scheduled as i’m worried that UFC will wannna look for winning match ups for brock since he’s a commodity$$$

brock’s best hope against GG is to take gonzaga to the cage and tire him over several rounds. otherwise GG will kill him

kongo he would have to get side control and knee or else standing he’d get KO’d

not the best division of HW’s but still pretty awesome.

brock was a commodity before last night. the ufc has been testing brock non-stop. fighting mir and then herring is quite an intiation. if the ufc was protecting brock, he would’ve fought neil wain or eddie sanchez or something like that.

The band wagon just pulled in town. lol. Brock won no excuses. He did what he was supposed to do, and its no small task beating Randy Couture. Now we get to see Brock’s belt get ripped off his waist by Nog. That had to be weird for Frank looking at that belt when he just submitted Brock in a matter of minutes. All I can say is if Dana can get Fedor, I would love to see Fedor shut Lesnar down. Can you imagine the devastation Fedor would put on Brock!

Im gonna clue you peanut gallery folk into some logic/ common sense thats missed with Fedor and the UFC….Fedor declined the UFC for the very same reasons Randy retired from the UFC..Fedor saw how the fighters were treated and the mess in the UFC…and boy look at the mess now. …Randy had legit reasons for leaving the UFC but it was the comin of NOG that set those feelings into motion. Randy wanted no part of NOG !! Nog has tapped those who have tapped randy including randys own teammate Dan henderson. Now so far as the Randy vs Fedor fight, it was never gonna happen because Dana wasnt letting Randy fight Fedor and Dana told Fedor the only way your fighting Randy is through Contract. This covered Dana Whites ASS !!! He wasnt gonna let Randy fight because he knows what the outcome of the fight would of been had Fedor not being in Dana Whites franchise would of somewhat hurt business for Dana , pure and simple !! The same will happen with Lesnar. The bottom line is if you want to fight the main man of mma then dont sign with the UFC because Dana isnt gonna allow his HW champion to be owned by a HW from another franchise and thats exactly what would happen…it did make good publicity for Randy to, but i guarantee in the back of his head thats all he wanted was the publicity of it all, the man didnt even want to fight NOG let alone Fedor.

The bottom line is if you want to fight the main man of mma then dont sign with the UFC because Dana isnt gonna allow his HW champion to be owned by a HW from another franchise and thats exactly what would happen…it did make good publicity for Randy to, but i guarantee in the back of his head thats all he wanted was the publicity of it all, the man didnt even want to fight NOG so he wont fight fedor even if cleared from contract.

I think it would be better now if mir beat nog so we can see nog-randy and lesnar-mir2, I think lesnar would quite easily beat mir now but might get sub’d by nog, the fight between the winners probably won’t happen for another 4-6 months so who knows, lesnar might be able to develop good enough bjj defense to beat nog aswell. Overall it was a much better card than I expected it to be seen as all of the undercard was shown and now I can’ belive i have to wait more than a month before ufc 92.
I’m picking mir to beat nog if he comes in shape but either way i think lesnar has a good chance of being the legit champ after all this especially if he is working costantly from now until the fight on bjj defense

I would love to see Randy move back down to LHW again. Anything to see him compete still

This was supposed to go to J.R. King below. My comment to your mindless drivel was moderated. But it had something about you licking the windows on the short bus to school.

Some people are just too inbred to understand.. I heard a guy at the bar say Randy fights like a girl.. ridiculous. JASON YOU ARE GARBAGE.

Really? That’s like saying Ray Lewis can’t tackle or Lebron can’t dunk. Think about it…

Randy has always had trouble with big guys. The only exception was with Silvia.
If Brock continues to improve he is going to be a hand full for anyone.
What’s great about the UFC: fighters are not protected by greedy promoters. Look at the state of boxing.
A loss in the UFC does not mean your career is over. Even the best fighters will suffer a loss and bounce back.
Brock showed a lot of respect toward Randy after the fight. I hope Brock keeps with that attitude.

Can’t wait for UFC 92.

WHO the F%$^%% cares about Fedor.

No. It wouldn’t be. Not at all. You’re putting the cart WAY before the horse.

I’m pretty sure Brock is that dick head who drives like an asshole with the black Chevy Tahoe with the illegal tints and the tap out decal on the rear window.

by J.R. King on Nov 16, 2008 4:05 PM EST reply actions

Brock got a good ko. He did very well.

That being said, he got out-wrestled and out boxed by a 45 year old man who weighed significantly less. The dumbfounded look on his face while pinned to the cage staring at his corner was kinda telling. Randy looked fantastic.

He got Randy in the end, but he did it by being f*cking big. What’s he going to do when that’s not good enough?

Don’t get me wrong, Brock won and he is rightfully the champ. I’m happy for him and he’s being a sportsman about it. For once.

Brock is going to lose that belt very soon, and hopefully he has a nice long haul to get it back. It’ll make for some exciting fights, and will make him the fighter he’ll need to be.

I agree with that completely.

i was going for couture all the way, but i’m not gonna lie. lesner has potential. i think with time, he can get really good…………..but yeah, Mir being there….thats fucked up.

by The 5th Beatle on Nov 16, 2008 4:36 PM EST reply actions

Props to Lesnar for once again proving he has what it takes.
Props to Randy for actually being able to control him and some points. Its pretty incredible that a 45 year old man can pull that off. Oh and props to Stephens for that wicked KO!

BROCK LESNAR is the fucking man, from day one I knew
he was going to be the greatest heavyweight to ever set foot in an UFC cage. No disrespect to Randy he is for sure a great fighter but Brock is way too much for anyone, and with a guy
who is only going to get better each and every fight I dare Frank Mir to step into the octagon with him

by Rich on Nov 16, 2008 6:27 PM EST reply actions

Couldn’t have said it better myself Rich. To all the Brock haters, not one of you would talk shit if you were standing across from him in the octagon. You would run like little girls. As far as Mir is concerned, He got Lucky. If he wouldn’t have gotten Brock’s leg, he would have lost. Remember, this was Brock’s 1st fight. I admit I was a little concerned for Brock going against Couture. He was a 3x champion, but my boy brought his A game. Way to go Brock.

by brockfan on Nov 17, 2008 12:13 AM EST up reply actions

good to see brock was somewhat more humble in this interview. i can give him a little more respect for that. part of being a champion is knowing how to act like one. Also i thought it was a little strange to see mir there. couldnt believe it was him at first, i see a mir vs lesnar rematch sometime soon. i think mir will win again though

by nine on Nov 16, 2008 9:44 PM EST reply actions

I love how people are using Randy’s age as an excuse AFTER the fight. Before the fight, his age didn’t matter, he was still gonna school Brock. But after he loses, well oh, I guess it’s only because Randy’s old. Brock made Randy look slow and old, just like GSP made Hughes look slow and old.

by Pat on Nov 17, 2008 10:21 AM EST reply actions

“Brock made Randy look slow and old, just like GSP made Hughes look slow and old.”

ahem….

well,

exactly like ,
except,

for strategy, diverse striking, well rounded ness.

-no slight to lesnar , he’s a challenge for anyone, but comparing brock to GSP, i gotta say, stand up, put your hands on your head and step back away from the computer plesae

by patrickgamil on Nov 18, 2008 1:56 PM EST up reply actions

nog will retire mir,
and kick brock from his shared throne

by patrickgamil on Nov 18, 2008 1:58 PM EST up reply actions

I thought it was weird that he got a title shot after beating Herring. I personally thought he should have gotten a couple more fight to earn a title shot but Dana definitely saw the dollar potential. When Dana said the “Biggest Fight In MMA History” he was talking about the MONEYYYYYYY.
