Just another example of two bashers who are behind the times and will not give anything new a chance. Wilban or however the hell your name is spelled get a new watch because MMA is on it now(watch clip).

at least they admit they don’t know anything, but you’d think maybe after so long they would at least TRY to gain some knowledge instead of staying transfixed on the blood. i also don’t know how they can talk like boxing isn’t violent.

by ActionJackson on Nov 15, 2008 4:00 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Everytime they talk about boxing they bring up the days of Ali, because that is the last time boxing was truly great. MMA didn’t kill it, it was dead long before that.

by naturalshadow on Nov 15, 2008 5:34 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Sounds crazy but boxing is more violent…..give this quick example: you can have a mega MMA fight end in the first round via tap out Hughes vs GSP 1 and both fighters never got hurt…..constant head shots over and over again are the real causes of brain injuries which are not found in MMA

by Robert on Nov 15, 2008 9:30 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

tis funny cuz boxing actually causes more brain damage than MMA and its been proven.. more injuries on the body goes to MMA but critical brain damage is pure boxing

by ricky on Nov 15, 2008 4:04 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

yeah thats why boxers are tougher as persons..they know the consequences and they still do it..

by tar on Nov 16, 2008 1:20 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

thats a crock. Like how boxers now wear trunks that have beltlines all the way to their nipples, or how you have “champions” ducking legitimate contenders by throwing away one of their belts, and hide behind the “sweet” science that is only transfixed into punching.

Boxing was as a beautiful sport but has become broken and crooked. MMA is the REAL test of combat. Like I said, WHy not match up Floyd against Shawn Sherk and see how well he does being dumped on his ass.

Larry Holmes said that he wouldn’t have stepped into the cage.

I expected this to be a lot more harsh than it was based on how PTI has been towards mma in the past

by yohnstoppable on Nov 15, 2008 4:09 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

To add onto this, I can understand people mourning the death of boxing. If my favorite sport for years and years was on a huge decline based on stupid decisions and corruption, I’d be pretty mad.

Hell, I remember always being upset that mma wasn’t more popular in the past. When the only mainstream attention was 100% negative, when you couldn’t even get it on ppv, and when the internet was the only place to find results. I’d be heartbroken if mma was heading back in that direction, and could care less who or what was replacing it.

Yeah, these guys really didn’t come across as blowhards. They got their little shot in about how “barbarous” it is, but that’s nothing compared to what I’m used to from these sorts of guys.

Kornheiser is a douchebag.

by Luppers on Nov 15, 2008 4:38 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

And did I hear Wilbon say he was sitting on his dad’s lap when he was 15?

by PW on Nov 15, 2008 5:55 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Kornheiser is a huge douchebag. He’s terrible on Monday Night Football

by RiverHorror on Nov 15, 2008 6:57 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Agreed, their douchery is definitely on par with Bill Goldergs.

by NameNotRequired on Nov 15, 2008 7:33 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Kornheiser is hilarious on MNF! What are you talking about?

by JRV on Nov 15, 2008 9:42 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

The historical references are all true the 3 biggest sports in the country were horse racing (dead), boxing (almost dead), and baseball (in a huge decline) as were all the other points about boxing. I was raised on boxing during its last dying breaths and it is sad, but I love mma because I was also raised on Bruce Lee and Chinese cinema. mma has built where boxing left a void. It is boxing’s own fault.

Off the top of your head can anyone name 3 champions in boxing with the 1000 belts from all the titles? Nuff said boxing’s dead.

by DJR on Nov 15, 2008 5:52 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

LOL, I couldn’t name one. and what’s funny, some sports announcers can’t name one either. I’ve seen this arguement before on ESPN, and some of the guys couldn’t say anything other than,“there’s that one Russian guy who’s a champ, right?”

by chefdaddy on Nov 15, 2008 5:55 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I can name a lot of them ,but who cares, the only 2 that are worth a damn is the klitchko brothers

by scott on Nov 15, 2008 7:01 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Kelly Pavlik, Wladimir Klitchko, Vitali Klitchko. :) BONUS: Manny Paquiao.

by Brandon on Nov 15, 2008 8:26 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

You forgot Joe Calzaghe :-D

by Condilezza Rice on Nov 16, 2008 12:39 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I though Pavlik just lost? No belt on the line?

by naturalshadow on Nov 16, 2008 2:11 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

The thing that most frustrates me about these guys and others like them, besides the fact that they won’t even watch it to learn the sport, is that they consider boxing a sport, wrestling a sport, kickboxing a sport, muay thai and jiu jitsu legitimate martial arts, but one activity that combines elements of all of them is considered barbaric.

by PW on Nov 15, 2008 5:58 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Good point! Sometimes the obvious eludes these guys.

by chefdaddy on Nov 15, 2008 6:15 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

It sickens me that: 1-both of these guys are still saying they know nothing about UFC/MMA and, 2-Tony is calling it “blood and guts”. I really enjoy PTI overall, but it is a shame they are so narrow minded.

by Eric on Nov 15, 2008 6:52 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

To be fair he said ‘i don’t know jack about the sport to me it seems barbarous, but that’s me and other people love it so I won’t knock it"

That’s hardly MMA’s most vilifying comment, and they said boxing is in decline because it splintered and was corrupt they never blamed it on the UFC.

by ShaiZ on Nov 15, 2008 9:16 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

is this a real tv show. these retards couldn’t get a job in a normal country.

by paniczoo on Nov 15, 2008 7:08 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

If they admit they don’t know ANYTHING about mma then don’t say it’s barbarous and that “spleens come out.”

by Timmy on Nov 15, 2008 8:05 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

The reason MMA does not get respect from the major television stations is because they don’t have a piece of the pie. Only spike tv and ppv get any money off of it. UFC has all the ‘science’ of boxing plus the science of jiu jitsu, wrestling, muay thai and so on. These guys talk about mma the way a lot of women do football. They bash it because they do not understand or comprehend what they see.

by hatteras on Nov 15, 2008 8:14 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

People who think mma is barbaric and rediculous are idiots.

by Dylan on Nov 15, 2008 8:27 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Ricky Hatton, Joe Calzaghe, Kelly Pavlik, Klitchko…. doesnt change the fact boxing is poor in comparison to mma and most of all the ufc!!

by mo on Nov 15, 2008 10:56 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

boxing has 10x more income(mma pays peanuts)..boxing is worldwide-thats why thers so much money..boxing is in the OLYMPICS…boxing has tons of promoters world wide…mma has the ONE promotion making money…and soon station casinos would fold..so which sport is dying?? common little 135lbs manny pacquiao would get 11 million dollars how much did big bad brock get??

by tar on Nov 16, 2008 1:25 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

Tar – ping-pong and synchronized swimming is in the olympics too. Thanks for making the case AGAINST boxing. Also boxing has a very short list of fighters who are worth a damn;Pacquiao, Mayweather, Oscar, RJJ,and Calzaghe. You can see that these fighters have some things in common.. . they are the only superstars, they are all nearing retirement and they can only fight eachother so many times. Boxing has no exciting up and comers, and the fact is that after UFC has sky rocketed in popularity, fight fans don’t give a shit anymore about boxing. Now take your box of kleenex to a chick flick and have a good hard cry.

by haglnuts on Nov 16, 2008 2:37 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

and now the heavyweight champ was a former wwe wrestler—and steroid freak .now the mainstream media would surely accept the sport…lol—-well credit should be given to vince mcmahon—i hope triple H is brocks first title defence

by tar on Nov 16, 2008 1:29 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

LOL. I saw Ricky Hatton in attendance at UFC 91!!! I wonder if he’s planning on fighting in the UFC. Now there’s a man that knows when it’s time to jump off a sinking ship. And for the record. I have NEVER seen guts in an octagon; blood yes, guts no. Doesn’t boxing have blood? Case rested.

by haglnuts on Nov 16, 2008 2:30 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

The boxing mainstay started this rivalry with MMA, But personal like both, does college football scorn the NFL noway they both work together. Younger fans are warm to both sports, it is only the older fan that remember the heyday of boxing that detest MMA just look at MMA’s biggest fan Dana White he openly admits to loving boxing as I do.

by watchman on Nov 16, 2008 1:17 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

mma is big.but not as big as boxing.common theres no money in the fastest growing sport in the world…only Dana is dreaming.station casinos is closing down..by ufc
