The last reigning Icon Sport middleweight champion Kala Kolohe Hose (7-2) recently released a statement informing the media and his fans that he would be withdrawing from his November 15 fight against UFC washout Kalib Starnes.
The bout was scheduled to take place under the Destiny banner -- a smaller promotion that has an event scheduled at the Aloha Tower in Honolulu, Hawaii.
Hose's beef is that the promotion changed the format of the fight without his knowledge. The contract was signed with the agreement that the match would be fought using three three-minute rounds instead of the normal three five minute-rounds.
Perhaps the promoters realized they had made a mistake and tried to change the documentation, but Hose wasn't informed of the switch until just two days ago.
Here's a snip of the statement he released on MMAHawaii.com:
"On November 12, 2009, just three training days before the scheduled contest, I discovered that the promoter had altered my contract after I had signed and returned it. Upon review, it was apparent that he had changed the notation of "three three-minute rounds" to "three five-minute rounds." I was very upset knowing that the promoter made this change without appropriately informing me. This discovery halted the momentum of my training camp."
Starnes, of course, is more than likely best known for his "fight" against Nate Quarry at UFC 83: "Serra vs. St. Pierre 2," during which he essentially ran from "The Rock" for 15 minutes. Perhaps Hose felt that his cardio was not up to snuff for a game of tag that could have lasted more than 10 minutes.
Former Pro Elite fighters Po’ai Suganuma and Mark Oshiro had been confirmed for this event as well. Either of their fights could potentially now move into the main event slot.
