UFC Quick Quote: Frank Mir can 'crush' Antonio Rodrigo 'Minotauro' Nogueira

"I'm 200 times the athlete that he is. I can jump higher, run faster, move quicker, move longer -- anything we do that I know just as well as he does I'm going to crush him."
-- Former heavyweight champion Frank Mir compares his athletic ability to that of Antonio Rodrigo "Minotauro" Nogueira after losing the coaches challenge on the latest episode of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) on Spike TV. "Big Nog" scored more goals in a soccer challenge, winning his team members $1,000 each. Mir was clearly upset about the result. He'll have his chance at redemption in the main event at UFC 92: "The Ultimate 2008" on December 27 when the two Brazilian jiu-jitsu specialists battle for the division title on New Year's Eve weekend.

Mir called team Nog – fighters bunch of losers, after the guy kept yelling GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL!!!
I hope Nogueira beats Mir so he can retire.

nOg is just a class act! It takes an ignorant F**K to hate on Nog. He is the man. I love watching Nog fight, but he isnt my favorite. With that said, there isnt a fighter I respect more then the warrior known as NOG!!!!!
Mir is just crap. For someone that is basically given a BS title shot, the guy could be classier. I am sick of hearing him talk…makes me not want to watch the season. He got KO’ed by Pan de Pano Cruz for crying out load!
Nog is the man. After his boy lost last night, hearing those copmments about how he is going to teach him a ground game and get invited to train with him in Miami was real cool of Nog! Nog will go down as one of the best coaches and people that the TUF show has ever seen@!

mir is on crack, if he is so much more the athlete than nog how come he could barely move to stop the ball, shit nog was diving for those balls frank couldn’t even take a step to try and stop them.

mir moves like Hulk Hogan…that’s not athletic! His athletic ability is comparable to nog, but neither is an “athlete” in terms of having great athleticism! Nog/mir will be a better fight than you all think, but I’m disliking Mir more and more by the minute!
by kevin on Nov 13, 2008 12:02 PM EST up reply actions
i think your wrong, nog will beat him standing no problem mir will get desperate and try to take nog down and end up on the bottom and than nog gnp’s and finishes.i have been saying this since the show started mir is coming of like some goober knucklehead idiot.
by roy on Nov 13, 2008 12:28 PM EST up reply actions
Frank Mir is a tool. If he was so much more athletic, why did he look so bad. All he had to do was kick a ball, dive left, dive, right. It’s not like he had to run the soccer field and actually play the game. I see him getting TKO’d I dont think it goes past 2nd round.

I feel the same way…..one of the reasons why I actually like these shows is they give you a real sense of who the fighters really are….Nog is walikng away as a class act and a real gentleman of the sport and Mir just looks like a spoiled brat. This fight is not even going to be close!

I’m finding it hard to believe that a BJJ black belt like Mir would so completely disrespect a guy like Nog. Is there any chance that maybe Dana suggested to Mir that a little conflict between the coaches would be a good thing?

I’ve always thought & posted Frank Mir was arrogant, now everybody’s beginning to see that… he thinks his shit don’t stink.. I hope Nog gives him the beating of his life.

To be perfectly honest, I still think Tito is the best coach. Although being compared to Ken on the show, who has been the worst coach, might have made him look a lot better

no, Tito is the best coach the show has ever seen without a doubt.. Nogueira comes in at second!

Definitely my favorite fighter of all time. He only cared that his guys won the grand more than winning the challenge or the 10G. Why does everyone on Mir’s team have that shitty attitude like they’re “too cool” for everything?

it’s not you. he is definitely coming off like a jackass. i saw somewhere else some extended excerpt of frank talking to kaplan after his loss and frank was SUCH A WINDBAG. then to top it off he started fucking crying at the end. i thought frank was cooler than this, wtf!?

hmm, Frank Mir isn’t even a top 10 hw in the world he’s 10th at best.. He sucks! everything he does is horrible except for his jiujitsu talk about one dimensonial, and not to mention his gas tank that lasts for max 3 min.. Nogueira is gonna end this fight with brutalities, flying knee round 1!
by RoB on Nov 13, 2008 1:15 AM EST reply actions
he’s ranked 18 on mma-elo and 27 on fightmatrix
that said he has a punchers chance. nog has looked slow and beat up lately
anyway I think he’s probably not as full of himself as people think. this fight doesn’t have enough hype behind it and being a heel is a good way to create some interest
by aa on Nov 13, 2008 1:42 AM EST up reply actions
Lets get this straightened out right now. Fighting Nog, NO ONE has a “punchers chance”. He can NOT get KO’d. The only way to beat Nog is to stick and move and hope for a decision. If you go to the ground, you get submitted and no one can KO or TKO Big Nog. So Big Nog is actually the only fighter that the term “a punchers chance” can not be used against.
by ViolentMike on Nov 13, 2008 10:33 AM EST up reply actions
exactly vm, and mir would also need a punch to have a punchers chance he real is not a ko power hitter

saying something like that against Nog is wrong man- shows that realistically deep down he’s scared of Nog- Nog has been in real wars i.e. Fedor and cro cop.. and he took fedor to Desion and arm bared cro cop.. can’t hate a guy like especially how nice and humble he is to his team and to the others on teh show.. man i hope randy wins so i can see nog vs randy !!! been saying it for some time now!!! dana make it happen

yea frank mir comes across as very disrespectful and full of arrogance, i use to be a Mir fan because of his fighting abilities, but im hoping Nog smacks his teeth down his throat and then chokes him out, then Mir will have a cry. Nog is a really coach and a very humble and respectful person,

Big Nog is a true legend of the sport. He’s been in so many great fights and has come out on top more often than not.
What has Mir done in comparison?
Mir relies on his jits… Nogueira is much better at that as well.
The more I see of Mir on TUF, the less I like him. Nogueira on the other hand comes across as a really cool guy. I hope Noguiera finishes Mir in round 1 of their fight.

And, Mir, you looked incredibly uncoordinated doing the shootout. Granted, it is very difficult to stop a shot if the person shooting has some skill. But, like Dana said, it looked as if you mailed it in on defense.

by ViolentMike on Nov 13, 2008 10:38 AM EST up reply actions
Well Pe De Pano and Vera crushed him after he won the belt, so I don’t see your point. And honestly, he got a lucky road to a title shot in the first place. Do you honestly think he would have stood any kind of chance against Couture, Barnett, Rizzo, Smith, Arlovski, or Ricco back then? No way in hell. If he gets mauled by Ian Freeman, then those guys would have retired him.
Instead, he beats Tank Abbot and Wes Simms and gets a title shot. Sylvia takes him down like an idiot, and the belt is his. Then he gets in a bike wreck, and will forever have the excuse of the wreck to blame his terrible performances, which are no worse than they were pre-wreck.
Mir will forever be this myth bought by uneducated fans. A myth who has fought one, yes ONE, top 10 heavyweight in his ENTIRE CAREER. As soon as Nog crushes him, I hope we never hear about him again. And this pampering he’s receieved his whole career due to being liked in Nevada will finally come to an end.
First title shot: Wins over Tank Abbot and Wes Sims
Second title shot: Wins over Hardonk and Lesnar
What a joke

Yohnstoppable: Great stuff man! Seriously that was the post of the month. I couldnt agree more. The guy’s entire career is a smoke screen. Cant wait to see the odds for this fight. I say Nog is a -800 Favorite!
Mir is trash, Nogueira is a BONAFIDE Legend. Nog outclassed Werdum on the ground, so how could Mir stand a chance? Easy, he doesnt! Nogueira is going to beat Mir standing and then G n P him for a 3rd finished.
Mir is the Heavyweight Travis Lutter! That may be the most accurate thing I have ever said on this site!

it doesnt matter if they do try to make mir look like an asshole, its the words coming out of his mouth that make mir an asshole. the fact that mir said “they’re all losers, they’ll never amount to anything” is what makes me really dislike him. he’s supposed to be a role model to these guys. if i was on his team i’d be pretty dissapointed that my coach’s outlook was like that. and i personally think that bader is gonna win for the 205ers. mir would eat his words if that happened.

frank mir is gonna win i think because nogueira will be so fooled by frank not gassing during his walkout to the cage.. mir needs to cut some of the fat off him with some good ole fashion workouts.. he was 10lbs lighter then lesnar at there weigh ins yet looked like he was a truck driver posing down with a body builder

I have always thought that Mir was overated. Like Lutter was lucky to get his title shot so is Mir. Neither of them deserved it. Nog is ten time the fighter Mir is and should easily beat him but I must say that Tim Sylvia was absolutley destroying Nog in the stand up, and if he wasn’t so keen to just get a descision win like he normally does and grew some balls and actually tried to finish that fight, I could have seen Sylvia winning. Imagine if he had to face Kongo who is ten time the striker Sylvia is, he would have been kissing he canvas. I am hoping that Nog gives Mir a serious beat down.

Is anyone surprised that the guy who grew up playing soccer and in a country where soccer (football) is the number one sport beat a guy from the US, where soccer is an afterthought sport? If it had been throw a football, maybe Mir could have had the edge.

add me to the list of guys that were rooting for Mir when the show started….but not anymore. Definitely rooting for Big Nog when, or maybe i should say “if” the fight happens. With what i’ve seen from Mir this season, it wouldn’t surprise me if he pulls out with some horseshit injury at the last second. He came off looking like a whiny douche-bag on last night’s episode. What a tool. On another subject, earlier in this thread, i saw mention of who the best TUF coaches have been. I agree that Tito is at the top, but I think Serra is right there with him. Everyone might not like Serra, but he does a helluva job as a coach. I’d have to but Mir and Hughes at the bottom of the list…..

I think you all on this thread have it wrong about Mir. He is a fighter, and UFC circus clown producers treat the fighters on that show like reality show dorks. I think Mir was thinking, “why are we playing with balls like kids for peets sake, were heavy weight ultimate fighters at the top of the game”. I think it is very disrespectful to treat professional fighters that way. These guys are the top of the top, heavyweight fighters in the cage. Mir has some serious skills, and he is a big guy. Is he perfect? Hell no, but he gets paid to beat people up – what do you guys expect.
As for Nog, the guy must have an IQ below 80. I think he has a lot more heart than Mir, and I think his thick head make him nearly impossible to knockout. But the Mir/Nog fight will be on the ground. On the ground Mir’s sharper mind will beat Nogs – the the result will be Mir out positioning him.
People like to forget the hard times that came Mir’s way with his accident, and they attribute the time in his career when he was recovering with being typical of his performance. The truth is he is one of the smartest heavyweights in the UFC. Is he full of himself? Yes he is. But; he was raised in the art of fighting and he has learned more than most. He brings a lot of knowledge with him, and it shows. Everyone loves to forget his victory over Lesnar – but he achieved that victory with that big head of his.
I like MMA because of the characters that the fighters are, and Mir is a character.

Lot of personal dislike for Mir here, thats fine. As far as the fight – Neither man can knock the other out. Possibly Nog will TKO Mir. More likely, with their comparable BJJ skills, this one will go the full 5. Mir will gas and lose a unam decision. Nog by UNAM.
