nate will be explosive and agressive~
and will surely cause maia problems.
maia has slick jj so nate will want to keep it standing.
i am really looking forward to see if maia will stand and trade~
i want to see what wanderlei has taught him. and how he uses it.

He will probably want to trade until he gets hit hard a few times. Does anyone remember Maia’s chin getting tested? I just hope this is not a replay of Cote/Almeida, but right now this looks like the 2nd best fight on the card.

I am extremely interested in seeing what the odds for this fight will be. I hear that they will be very close. I think that Damian Maia has proven that he deserves to be the favorite in this fight, at least a -150 favorite. On a site that I’m not registered at, I seen Maia at -105. Those are some pretty sweet odds for Maia.
Quarry used to train at Team Quest so he has to have at least half way decent takedown defense. The majority of his fights are simply slugfests.
Right now, and since the fight was announced, I have liked Maia in this fight. Although, my bet will wait until after the weigh ins. I need to see these two standing toe to toe to see how much of a size advantage Nate will have. If I do bet on Maia, the last thing I would want to see is a Hendo/Palhares fight all over again where the BJJ guy had 0% chance at winning because he couldnt’ take his opponent down.
I have always been a fan of Nate and root for him and have also met him before and he was cool to talk to. If I don’t have money on this fight, I will be rooting for Nate.

My brain says Maia, but my heart says Nate. Nate has never been submitted, but obviously hasn’t fought a guy with BJJ like Maia. I think it all depends on Maia’s chin because I am sure that will get tested. Tough to call… I will be rooting for Nate. What are the odds?

i got my bet on maia at +80..but im not sure what the net is offering.
bnf~ u got a great point about maia’s chin.
i think that along with
how well maia is able to get take downs [like mike said]
and if wanderlei’s muy tai training has done him well.
will be 3 key factors to this fight..
either way? im thinking this will be a great fight.

Any bet on Maia is probably the best one and at +80 you are a smart man to make that bet!

Hey Mike I’m not a beating man what does +80 mean?
by Robert on Nov 12, 2008 11:43 AM EST up reply actions
Am I the only person who has seen his fight with Machado? Demian is not a good matchup for his whatsoever. Also in the standup realm, nate has a ton of power but really not that technical. Stinky-where did you go to get +80?
by NameNotRequired on Nov 12, 2008 11:50 AM EST up reply actions
My only guess would be that it is the equivalent to -120. But that would mean the line is -120, not +80…

I love Maia in this fight. I know that he will be able to get Nate down to the ground, and then its OVER! j-mac impressively defended submissions, Nate wont be so lucky.
Maia will get the fight to the ground in every single round. No worries! This will not be cote/Almeida 2!
Take Maia all the way to the Bank. THis guy is DESTINED to be a Champion, he is the real deal and I like the way he incorporates his elbows into his world class ground game! He throws 2 elbows at you to distract you, and then BOOM, you are moUNted! I like Nate, but skill beats strength and power more times than not!~

Future Champion! No doubt! I love his down-to-earth demeanor! This guy is a real BADA@@ and wears his power lightly, like a true warrior! Maia, bring a pillow! Cause you’re gonna be taking a looooong nap!

Got to be honest … I had that daydream before… In mine I don’t make it out, but give it a hell of a run

the only reason maia and j-mac went to the ground is because j-mac took it there.
quarry uses his range in the stand-up game pretty much better than anyone else in mma. he’s a good judge of distance and will pick maia apart from the outside landing serious jabs. i see quarry by decision or tko…
and then i see maia dropping to 170.
