Kim and Randy Couture get restraining order on Afflictions Todd Beard

Kim Couture -- wife of UFC Heavyweight Champion Randy Couture -- today had her request for a restraining order against Affliction CEO Todd Beard granted because of threats to her personal safety.
Affliction manufactures and sells Randy's clothing line, Xtreme Couture, which is operated by Kim. Apparently, Couture's decision to return to the UFC to defend his belt against Brock Lesnar at UFC 91: "Couture vs. Lesnar" this weekend did not sit well with Beard.
That's more than likely because Couture fled the organization to pursue a fight with Fedor Emelianenko -- Affliction's crown jewel -- in late 2007. It never materialized, however, because of a long and protracted legal dispute that appeared to have no immediate end.
To add more fuel to the fire, a possibly inebriated Beard recently bashed Randy on Scott Ferrall's Sirius Satellite Radio show, claiming he was getting set up to lose by the UFC. He also wasn't shy about saying how he wanted the fight to go either.
Here's a snip:
"Randy if you're listening right now, I hope Lesnar (expletive) kills you."
Apparently, Beard's vendetta reached the point to where he was threatening Kim to where she felt she needed to take legal action. MMAmania.com contacted Kim, asking her about the situation, but she didn't have much to say about it.
"Yeah, whatever is out there is accurate," she said. "I don't want to -- and really can't -- comment on that right now."
Couture (0-1) will face Lina Kvokov (0-1) at the HP Pavillion in San Jose, California on November 21 as part of the Strikeforce: "Destruction" event, and Randy will make his return to the UFC to defend his world heavyweight crown against the highly decorated collegiate wrestler and former WWE powerhouse Brock Lesnar this Saturday night at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada in the main event of UFC 91.
Beard will be legally prohibited from being in attendance at both events.

Good add on with the radio comment James. I was actually upset you guys took so long to put this up since I sent the story at 9 or 10 this morning, but am very pleased and impressed with the journalism and facts.
I hope this doesn’t have an affect on the championship match this week end, I know I’ve picked couture and would NEVER make an excuse, and Randy is a consummate pro to boot, but to have a convicted felon and woman beater threaten your wife is I’m sure hard to deal with!
Best of luck to Randy and I now hope even more that affliction goes under!

I think this is a good pre-emptive strike to avoid situations specifically during the week that could impact Handy’s mental state for the fight.

Wow sounds like Randy back with the UFC hit Affliction hard!
On a side note was interesting to see the amount of affliction advertising during the boxing at the weekend. The deal with Golden Boy must be pretty big to get that much exposure

i heard the ferrall interview. this doesnt surprise me with beards penchant for drinking during work hours and his felony filled past. this dude sounds like a real nut-case and i dont blame anyone who puts a restraining order on him. im sure its not his 1rst time.

Basically, the guy is a drunk and there was a lot of drama during business meetings. The coutures were also suspecting they were getting ripped off so whenever they asked for balance sheets, they were ignored. Randy just couldn’t deal with it anymore and now the guy is pissed.

Well lets say for arguments sake that they end up at the same party together. The guy has been drinking, and decides to try something. Randy beats the crap out of him. Then he sues saying that he was attacked, and that it would be stupid to get in a fight with a UFC champion. It becomes a he said, she said situation. But with the restraining order in place, it’s simple, he should have never come near her in the first place. Or how about the fact that Randy can’t be around her at all times. It’s not always about who is the toughest guy in the room, you have to use your head too. Bottom line, if someone is making threats, get a restraining order. Whether person is full of it or not.

its funny that you say that.. but this isn’t like the middle east where ppl can fuck each other up without the police getting involved. you can be the toughest guy in the world but the second you lay a fingure on someone(despite the fact who’s right and whos wrong) chances are your going to get charged.. only way out is if your doing self defence and even that in Canada(where i live) is b.s. i still go in trouble for defending myself cuz i used to much violence…. anyways WAR Randy!!!! hope kim gets beatin up i just don’t like her… but never the less WAR clothing companys!!!!
