UFC 91 video preview with Dana White on ESPNs 'First Take'
The expectation from UFC President Dana White is that UFC 91: "Couture vs. Lesnar" will score around 1.2 million pay-per-view (PPV) buys this weekend. Is that possible?

gotta hand it to Dana white he is a very smart business man- if putting kimbo on TUF will boost the rates for that show like no other season(nobody can denie that).. as far as the whole brock lesnar Juice situation- the reason why he is so moody and walks out is because he doesn’t want to admite to taking his every other day shots to keep him going in the WWE- said it before he for sure isn’t on juice now, mainly because he gets to train MMA but during his WWE time he was on GH or IGF-1 and a hell of alot of Vinny to get him as ripped as he was, moody my ass. WAR RANDY hope he knocks him out(wishful thinking)

Your point about the juice makes me wonder- Who’s body has more miles on it – Couture (10 yrs MMA, and wrestling before) or Lesnar(Years of pro wrestling with various pain killer and alcohol addiction). The young vs old comparison might not be such a great factor. IMO Randy will win via GNP.

Hmmmm, would I rather get punched in the face for real, or have a fake punch thrown at me?
Would I want to get put in a sleeper hold and have the ref lift my arm up 3 times and allow it to fall 2 and half ways down and then start shaking and raise my arm as I awaken or would I rather have Big Nog wrapped around my back sinking in a RNC?
Randy is older. Although, I liked the different look at it, nice post

thanks for the laugh vmike,
I hope your right about saturdays outcome “namenotrequired” but with that logic and reasoning your name should be brain not required

Lesnar is still too young to feel the effects of steroid abuse. Depending on how he cycled the stuff he took while at the WWE the side effects will appear at some point, perhaps but not this early. Besides he is supremely gifted. Look at some pictures of him from his college wrestling days – he was a beast even then.

I didn’t know that it would take a long time for effects to set in. Also then will he be able to handle a decade in MMA or will he go the way of shammy?

I seriously doubt 1.2 million. Does anyone know what the biggest amount was to date? Was it Chuck/Tito? I think 92 and 94 could possibly do more. At least for my money I am more excited about those 2.
by BNF on Nov 11, 2008 3:46 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
I thought it was 68 with Randy/Sylvia and Hughes, Franklin also featured on the card… right?
by Anthony on Nov 11, 2008 3:54 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
i honestly do belive this will do better than chuck/tito 2, that got 1,050,000. lesnar will be a bigger name among casual fans than almost anyone in the ufc and with all the marketing behind this (‘biggest fight ever’) i think alot of casual fans will buy it and also the amount of wwe fans that will buy it should surely help it top 1,000,000 at least, sure this isn’t as appealing to hardcore fans as 92 or 94 but this will be huge among casual fans. personally i’m looking forward to 92 more than this but i am still realy looking forward to this main event, mainly because i still can’t really choose a winner, i’m thinking lesnar has the better chance but i still can’t count randy out
by hughes on Nov 11, 2008 4:02 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
I hope it does destroy all the records. I wish nothing but success for the UFC, I just don’t think the entire card is good enough. But maybe you are right, more of the casuals will want to see how the main event goes down.
by BNF on Nov 11, 2008 5:05 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
exactly. we hardcore fans only make up a small % of the fans who buy mma ppv’s. otherwise Affliction would have done alot better with their 1rst show #s wise, and would’nt have had to cancel/reshcedule their 2nd.

Don’t you think it’s ironic that the same reason Kimbo Slice was on the cover of ESPN Magazine is the same reason why Brock Lesnar is fighting for the UFC Heaveyweight championship on saturday. Because they generate sells, buys & viewers. Dana can’t give a legit answer for why Brock is fighting Randy other than “He’s Strong, Fast & Enormous”. Bottom line is it’s about that green paper.
by open24hrz on Nov 11, 2008 4:09 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Lesnar also has a background similar to many other very successful UFC stars, except he was a better amateur wrestler than most of them and was the only one who took the detour to WWE.

opwn24, I agree. One UD win over Heath Herring gives Brock a fight with Randy? Total nonsense. Let’s be honest here. Brock is UFC’s Kimbo with actual talent. Dana is hyping him up like EliteXC was hyping up Kimbo.
by FWM on Nov 11, 2008 4:55 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Who would you have suggested Randy fight for the title? You should be mad at Randy, if anyone. Mir/Nog were already doing TUF. Randy should have stepped up sooner to fight Nog, but he didn’t so the UFC moved on. Then Randy comes back and, boom, huge fight between him and Brock. So what…
by BNF on Nov 11, 2008 5:02 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
No way is Dana hyping Brock to Fergie-esque levels. Elite built their entire sham of an organization around Fergie. Win, lose or draw, the UFC is bigger than any of its fighters, while Elite has alrady proven that is not the case with them.
by PW on Nov 11, 2008 5:21 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Um…… Kimbo can’t fight and was fed cans…Brock beat the hell out of Herring who almost KO’D Nog. End of story

92 and 94 should do well over a million buys. Those are sick cards and the big thing is those fights are very balanced. I think that helps rather than having obvious outcomes.

92 = best 3 fights on one card EVER!
by McArthur on Nov 11, 2008 3:57 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
uhhhhh… yeah it is
it’s two of the top 5 HWs in the world going at it. In my book that constitutes a top fight.
by Anthony on Nov 11, 2008 5:41 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Mir is not top five in the world. UFC maybe, but not world. If he beats Nog, that may change.
by James S on Nov 11, 2008 6:05 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
MIr is the most over rated champion in the history of the UFC. He got knocked out by Cruz for crying out loud. THats pathetic! Do u have any idea how bad Cruz’s stand up is?
This fight is laughable!
by john on Nov 12, 2008 9:20 AM EST up reply actions 0 recs
MIr has not been a Top 5 HW since his motorcycle accident. Actually, it can be argued that even when he was the UFC HW champ that he was not a Top 5 HW “in the world” because PRIDE had a much better HW roster, even back then.

I’m only interested in Wandy and Page fight. I actually think the card is lacking for the new year’s event.
by KAS on Nov 11, 2008 4:58 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
two title fights (including one of if not the most popular ufc fighter in forrest griffin), a fight of the night shoo-in on any card in wandy v. rampage III, and cheick kongo…how is that lacking, KAS? thats the most stacked card ive seen in a very long time. its def. better than ufc91, as far as potential for great fights.
by mctapout on Nov 11, 2008 10:11 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
yushin okami vs. dean lister should be on the main card instead of kongo that is my only problem with the card, other than that this card is stacked and i can not wait for it!
by matt on Nov 11, 2008 11:34 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
I dont care for either of the title fights!
I am ordering the card to see wandy vs. Page. I could care less about the rest of this BS card!

Tito Ortiz and Chuck II is still still sold more PPV than any other mma event, and if im not mistaken i beleive it was the first time they ever did 1 million buys

I know UFC 100 is a long way off, but I’m already wondering what they’re guna do… It gotta be something huge!
by BritishBulldog on Nov 11, 2008 5:10 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
How about all 5 titles on the line? That would be crazy!!!
by BNF on Nov 11, 2008 5:12 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Naked women, midgets, a one armed trumpet player…. the works.
by James S on Nov 11, 2008 6:07 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Wasn’t that on the first EliteXC card?
by Jrandolph on Nov 11, 2008 9:07 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
But if they did have 5 titles on the line, we wouldn’t get to see another title defense for about 2 months at the earliest, and then they would spread them out, so one of the 5 champs potentially wouldn’t fight for 7 months, that is, if none of them get injured. Also, the champs wouldn’t be able to fight for couple months leading up to UFC 100.
It would be way to risky to put every title on the line at one event.
by ViolentMike on Nov 12, 2008 9:25 AM EST up reply actions 0 recs
I forgot it will probably only be 4 since BJ will have 2 titles and maybe only 3 because Anderson might have 2 as well.
by BNF on Nov 12, 2008 10:09 AM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Their was talk about all 5 titles on the line- only problem is if one of the champs get hurt UFC 101 will be hard to make a big PPV event for .. but taht would be a great a idea

Maybe the UFC will ask Arianny to “accidentally” have a wardrobe malfunction in between rounds. She refuses to do it. The UFC threatens to fire her. She sues Dana and the UFC. Brock busts threw the doors and saves her and throws Dana clear across the table into the folding chairs and, blah blah blah…
by cbchwa on Nov 12, 2008 1:40 AM EST up reply actions 0 recs
it’ll be Anderson Silva vs Cung Le in the main event.
by kitsunex on Nov 12, 2008 4:23 AM EST up reply actions 0 recs
i thought about that too, but I think they did that once before and they all went 5 boring rounds… might put them off doing it again?
