UFC 91: Amir Sadollah out with leg infection

The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 7 middleweight winner, Amir Sadollah, has been forced to withdraw from his upcoming bout against Nick Catone at UFC 91: "Couture vs. Lesnar" at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, on November 15 because of a leg infection.
Unfortunately, the promotion was unable to secure a replacement on such short notice, meaning that Catone will have to wait to make his Octagon debut and the show will go on with nine fights instead on the original 10.
In addition, according to an official announcement on UFC.com, the welterweight match up between Dustin Hazelett and Tamdan McCrory has been promoted to the televised portion of the pay-per-view (PPV) telecast.
Some fans may actually be happy to hear the latter news -- "McLovin" and "Barn Cat" are both bright up-and-coming talents who come to scrap.
UFC 91 features the main event between heavyweight champion Randy Couture and Brock Lesnar. In addition, lightweights Kenny Florian and Joe Stevenson will do battle for the right to be considered the top title contender in the 155-pound division in the co-featured fight of the evening.
Remember that MMAmania.com will provide LIVE round-by-round, blow-by-blow coverage of the main card action on fight night, which is slated to air at 10 p.m. ET on PPV. Of course, the latest quick updates of the prelim bouts will begin to flow earlier than that at around 8:30 p.m. ET.
See you then!
(Thanks to MMAmania.com reader "liamd" for the assist.)

Agreed, hope it’s not too serious, probly staph. But i am happy that we will get to see Hazelett-McCrory. That should be a sick fight.

My setiments exactly. I was really looking forward to seeing Amir fight after training months at Xtreme Couture. Leg infection sure sounds like staph to me.
And we all agreed that McLovin vs Hazelett was the best fight on the undercard so its not that much of a loss to the PPV telecast.

Mclovin is Hazelett…its Mclovin vs Barncat…sucks though for Amir, hope its not too serious

I wish amir well but this is the best thing to have happened to the ppv card! I was dying to see Mclovin vs. Barncatt. I am veery happy to get to watch that fight.
I am a big fan of amir, but lets face it, he is a rookie…keep him on a UYFN card or the Spike Finale. When I pay $45 for a ppv, I want to see the Big BOYS fight. Keep the young pups on spike!

Too bad it wasn’t Gonzaga that got hurt. If we could have kept Amir and got rid of Gonzaga for the McLovin fight, this card would have gone from pretty good to just good.

i like amir as well but i think this is a better fight to be televised, really he didn’t belong on a main card ppv yet.

Thanks for the catch on the typo MMA Dude. I began to type “Barncat vs Mc” and then I stopped and said to myself, why did I just put McCrory’s name first? (Since I am a big McLovin fan). Hence, the words “McLovin”, “Dustin” and “Hazelett” all consumed my mind at once and I messed up.
THis fight will be the definition of a scrap and will take place all over the octagon.

LOLOLOL, I just read my comment and it looked like I ws originally about to type “Barncat vs McCrory” LOL, just to be clear, I originally was typed “Barncat vs McLo…”
Now that that is all cleared up I can finally go about my day… lol

CHECK THIS OUT BOYS*** Very interesting New interview with Wanderlei. He comes off as very honest and genuine. I found it to be a really good read so I figured I would pass it along to my fellow maniacs. Enjoy:

Little late to the discussion here guys but I gotta chime in with my agreement on the awesonmenes of the McLovin v Barncat bout being promoted to the main card. Really glad were guaranteed to see this scrap now, especially since we’ve seen quite a few decisions lately, and have definitely missed out on some good undercard bouts as a result.
John – Always been a fan of both Wandy the fighter and Wandy the guy. He seems so totally dedicated to putting on entertaining fights for the fans. I assume it’s due to his Pride days and the relationship he had/has with the fans over there.

I’m curious, and guess no one else is, how long are mania’s interviews on the shelf for? The interview was “yesterday” and he seemed pumped!

G*d F*ing d*mn it – this card starts to sound more and more like pissing 45 bucks to the wind
by Anger Jack on Nov 11, 2008 4:19 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
You kidding? This actually improves the PPV. The replacement fight will probably be more esciting and has better talent. They had to televise Amir to get the hype train rolling for a TUF champ. They can’t have him win the TV show then hide him on an undercard.
Besides whenever a card looks like this one (sub-standard) and without as many big names and big fights, while it may not have the drawing power but usually has the most entertaining fights cuz those guys have the most to prove and get after it!

but it says the fight has not been replaced but hazelett vs mccory is moved to the main card does that mean we get six fights instead of five or does catone get moved to the preliminary

With this being said. Jason Lambert gone from the UFC.
Hazelett will rip Tamdan a new asshole. I mean if Gono submits you, I am pretty sure Dustin will.

there will never be a fatty wearing the belt.. it’s just unprofessional to come in fat i can’t understand why you come in like that when you’re supposed to be training hard!
by RoB on Nov 11, 2008 5:54 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
yea ok he “was the champ” and a horrible one that will never become a big champ again, i’ll make an exception for some hw’s.. it’s also about looking good, who wants to like a fatty a la Parisyan he would have more fans if he was ripped and actually looked like an athlete..
by RoB on Nov 12, 2008 8:58 AM EST up reply actions 0 recs
I think he would have had more fans if he actually backed up his frequent assertions of being a “dominant heavyweight and dominant striker” if he fought to knock people out instead of humping them on the cage or floor for a decision.
by PW on Nov 12, 2008 11:11 AM EST up reply actions 0 recs
just out of curiousity how does one get a Leg infection?? or a Staff infection during training?? i know this ain’t a medical website but im very curious to know how it happens.

It happens when you shove your leg up to someone’s butt

LOL, that or from rolling around on dirty, unsanitized mats.
by ViolentMike on Nov 11, 2008 4:27 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
It comes from a break in the skin, in these guys’ case most likely a mat burn, that ends up having the bacteria introduced and the site becomes infected. Like stated, dirty mats are often the culprit.
Not a bad idea to keep a bottle of peroxide in your gym bag folks and pour it over any rugburns you get at the end of your workouts. Or if you’re a masichist (sp?) opt for the rubbing alocohol. Enjoy the burn! Let’s just hope we don’t start seeing it spread thru Xtreme Couture.
by PJJ on Nov 11, 2008 5:40 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
didn’t even think about that. hopefully we won’t see couture gas two minutes in and find out later that he had a staph infection

I agree.. who cared about Sadollah vs Catone horrible PPV fight ffs
by RoB on Nov 11, 2008 6:16 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Ridiculous statement at best. He’s done what every other winner of TUF has done, but with a little more style and flair than most. Most people want to see what this kid can do after training at a serious camp. Remember, when he went on the show, he had 0 (count that again there sunshine-0) pro fights and trained out of a little gym in a little burg. The replacement fight should be a really good one, but I still wish to see him fight soon.
by chefdaddy on Nov 11, 2008 10:03 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
ok, so you don’t think it would be better to put him on a UFN card? I think the PPV’s should pack as many known and big names as possible, neither of Sadollah/Catone has a big name right now..
by RoB on Nov 12, 2008 9:32 AM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Don’t get me wrong. Big names sell fights. But big names don’t always MAKE great fights. I would rather see an all-out WAR between a couple rookies than a lackluster fight between two stars. Granted there’s no guarantee that either of those would happen, but both have. I guess to boil it down, he deserves the same chances and opportunities that previous TUF winners have had.
by chefdaddy on Nov 12, 2008 11:04 AM EST up reply actions 0 recs
I don’t understand the betting lines for Couture-Lesnar. They are both minus something. How can they both be favored to win?
by sdow on Nov 11, 2008 6:34 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
The lines are never equal, meaning if one fighter is -350 the other fighter is usually about +250 or so, and not +350.
Its so the house makes thier money.

This sucks for Nick Catone!
Chances are they will find someone else for Amir to fight.

Randy Couture is out, he was short on diapers and started to cry, nana slipped bad and cracked the forehead to the floor, now Randy is trying to sue the diaper company that ruined his MMA career and the diaper company is going to sue Randy for missusage of the diapers and for having a bad stomach that led to the death of his nana and in court everyone are throwing feces at each other, Randy is very upset though Brock is on the way on his Harley so he can team up with Randy in the feces throwing.
BTW Joe Rogan is also out, out of the closet that is.
sorry for the rantings
I just hate when fighters get injured etc… I don’t care for Amir at all though it sucks for his fans.
Can’t wait for the Randy vs. Brock showdown… that’s gonna be huge!

He reminds me so much of Forrest. Not the best fighter in the world but more heart and desire than anyone that has ever stepped in the ring. I love watching Amir fight because even when he is getting worked he is scrambling and trying to get an advantage. Amazing kickboxing too.
