yea I dont think so either….if anything, the new years eve bash would be the closest thing to the “biggest fight in ufc history” thats what I want to see….Forrest and Rasha, Rampage and Wanderlei, Mir and Nog….doesnt get much bigger than that…

the biggest fight in ufc history? GSP/P3nn is bigger than this.
The card stinks other than the main event, and they built this up to be a huge thing when it’s not that big, i’m a hardcore fan but even i wouldn’t pay for this PPV and i’ve got my dvr meomry full

ChuckX, you said “yea I dont think so either….if anything, the new years eve bash would be the closest thing to the "biggest fight in ufc history" thats what I want to see….Forrest and Rasha, Rampage and Wanderlei, Mir and Nog….doesnt get much bigger than that…”

Randy/Brock is a bigger fight than any of those 3 fights. Were you trying to combine the value of those 3 fights when comparing it to Randy/Brock?

Two TUF fighters, a lopsided title fight and part 3 of a match.

Once the PPV numbers come out, then we can discuss what the biggest fight in UFC history is.

The New Years event has 3 main event worthy fights on it and it still won’t sell as much as this UFN card with Brock and Randy headlining it, making it a PPV.

It definitely Won’t be a lay n’ pray main event… the rest of the card kinda’ sucks though

I agree, shitty promo name, I think the the Gsp-Penn fight is much larger and carries so much more weight. Randy left a bad taste in a lot of fans mouths with his contract shennanigans and Brock who I and many others, was starting to respect, left a bad taste in a lot of others when he disrespected Heath Herring at the end of their fight-very Tank Abbotesque. Also I think The Rashad Evans Forrest Griffin Fight might be bigger. That is two Ultimate Fighter Alumni fighting for one of the biggest belts in MMA history.

As for the Randy always being counted out against big guys and overcoming I do not think Randy has ever faced a man as big as Brock with the explosive speed of a 155er. But I do agree that Brock has never been in the deep end yet and Randy is the guy that could possibly take him to that side of his mma career. Either way I think this is a win win situation for Brock. If he wins he beats the Natural and has the Opportunity to Face BIg Nog. If he loses he gains the experience of a lifetime, has tasted deep waters from one of the UFC’s most revered and fan favorites.

by Da Monkey on Nov 11, 2008 7:09 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I think Stevenson will take out Florian in this one, even though I’m rooting for Kenny.

And Lesnar will, of course, destroy Couture. And no I’m not going to be rooting for Randy.

by J on Nov 10, 2008 8:11 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

If couture loses that is definite proof that he’s ducking Big Nog. There is no reason in hell he should lose.

This post just doesnt make sense to me.

by The Anomaly on Nov 10, 2008 8:28 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I guess he meant that he will lose on purpose so he won’t have to face Nog who’s bound to win against Mir.

by Syd[a.k.a."The Negation"] on Nov 10, 2008 8:40 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Syd, still doesn’t make sense

by Psyqo78®™ on Nov 10, 2008 8:51 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Clarification- The only way he can lose is by throwing the fight. The only reasonable explanation for such an outcome is fear of Nog, whom I believe he has consistently ducked before.

by NameNotRequired on Nov 10, 2008 8:55 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Yeah, what a coward, he ducked Nog to go looking for FEDOR, get real.

by Gord on Nov 10, 2008 9:31 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Lol Gord, i agree 100%

by BMO on Nov 10, 2008 9:50 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

The fedor fight was win-win for couture. He makes a ton of money, and he either loses to the best or becomes the “best” hence no need to fight Nog. A Nog loss is much more damaging to his legacy than a Fedor loss. True champions don’t care about maintaining their legacy, they fight all comers (as decided by the promoter of course).

by NameNotRequired on Nov 10, 2008 10:13 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I have no idea why some of you guys are so hooked on a guy who’s, what, 16-8. He beat Sylvia and Gonzaga (not too bad, but let’s face it, neither guy is tearing up the ladder to a #1 spot). His two fights before that, he got KTFO by Chucky. Twice. I just don’t see it. The whole Fedor thing? Wow, that’s an arguement I thought we squashed on here ages ago. He passed up the chance to fight Fedor after he retired the first time. Probably a smart move, as it wouldn’t be NEAR the $$$ it would have been earlier this year. Bypass Nog, b/c IMO, he would lose, and then the fight with Fedor wouldn’t be worth what I left in the toilet earlier.Nog would tie him up in a knot. And in all honesty, I think Brock will overwhelm him. Where will Randy have the advantage in this? Stand up? No. Randy isn’t exactly a knockout artist. In the clinch (where his bread and butter dirty boxing ala Greco-Roman usually works)? No. How can he overpower someone who outweighs him by 55-60 pounds of muscle? Yeah, yeah, yeah, Big Poopy was bigger than him too. Bigger, but NOWHERE near as strong as Brock. On the ground? No. Captain Paycheck only has two submission victories. Where I will give Randy the edge, and these are NO SMALL things: gameplanning (he’s one of the best) and experience (He does have 24 pro fights, after all). But I don’t think those two things will be enough. Maybe not enough to get out of the first round.

by chefdaddy on Nov 10, 2008 11:35 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

chefdaddy, that was one of the most spot-on comments I’ve read so far regarding this event. I couldn’t agree with you more. In my opinion, this fight is just a technicality for Randy, as he now has to fill his remaining fights in the UFC. As for Brock, this will be a huge step up the ladder, beating a brand-name guy like Randy Couture. In no way will this go anywhere but in Brocks favour. You could give me 8 to 1 odds on Randy and I still wouldn’t bet 100 bucks on him.

Randy’s specialty (or his strength), in my opinion, based on the fights I’ve watched, is his wrestling. But then you have a guy like Brock Lesnar who can out-wrestle anyone in the UFC right now, and probably for years to come. If Randy goes for the takedown, he won’t get it, and he wants to stand up he will get killed.

by J on Nov 11, 2008 1:18 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I actually think Randy has an advantage in the standup…by all means not a knockout puncher standing but he held his own against Gonzoga and Tim. Brock still looks like robot when throwing punches….if Randy doesn’t get old over night and comes in the way he did last year I pick Randy to win the standup on his way to a UD. That being said I thought Herring was going to kill brock so what do I know!!!!!!!!!!

by Robert on Nov 11, 2008 8:54 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Don’t get me wrong, ANYTHING can happen in this sport, that’s why we love it so much. Hell, if we could always predict the winner, why bother watching it? I think he put a whoopin’ on Gonzaga b/c quite frankly, I think Gonzaga is over rated. and Big Tim was TERRIFIED to go to ground with him, so he kept looking for the takedown while getting punched in the face. And I’m not a Brock nuthugger or a Randy hater (don’t hate him, don’t like him…….I nothing him).

by chefdaddy on Nov 11, 2008 9:08 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Yeah that’s definite proof….. possibly taking the beating of his life to avoid a possible submission loss. Totally viable argument…lol.

I love how Sylvia and Gonzaga are all of a sudden cans now. I’m sure you were the same guy that picked Gonzaga and Sylvia to run right through Randy, right?

It’s the Anderson Silva argument. Dan Henderson was considered a top 10 p4p fighter before Silva beat him, but now, ohh he’s not that great. And Rich Franklin was, and still is, a top three 185er, yet since he got destroyed by Silva, he’s not that great. Despite the fact that his ONLY losses in his career are to Silva twice and Machida once. But yea, the 185 division is a joke, and Anderson Silva is fighting nobodies…

I’m not saying Randy could beat Fedor, but it’s idiotic not to give the guy credit for his wins over Sylvia and Gonzaga. This isn’t boxing, a 16-8 record in MMA is normal. Especially when you’re going back and forth from division to division and constantly fighting quality competition.

By the way, Gonzaga and Sylvia are STILL top 10 fighters in the HW division….

Joe will win, and im rooting for Joe, and ill be rooting for Randy, but cant begin to call that one.

by The Anomaly on Nov 10, 2008 8:13 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

They are both tough to call. Joe has the benefit(among others) of the huge confidence boost by recieving his Black belt less than a week before the fight.Kenny has his elbows and tenacity. Hopefully it will end up like the Sherk Griffin fight(never thought I would say that). I see Lesnar shining in this fight but even if he does most haters will make excuses. Couture can never be counted out and everyone knows that. I just hope we get to see the Barncat and McLovin…that fight has Fight of The Night written all over it.

by Psyqo78®™ on Nov 10, 2008 8:50 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Personally I think Mclovin will take it easier then most think. I will be rooting heavily for Couture, the smaller, weaker guy. If he can pull this off it will, once again, be absolutly inspirational.

And yeah your right, the Kenny and Joe is a very close one as well, I am just a much bigger fan of Joe then Kenny.

by The Anomaly on Nov 11, 2008 4:41 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Ridiculous to moderate that reply

by Psyqo78®™ on Nov 10, 2008 8:51 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Lol why is their no reason in hell Randy should lose? Brocks power and overwhelming potential is undeniable. I love Randy, and train at his gym here in Vegas, but losing to Lesnar is very possible, and if he does lose to Lesnar that takes nothing away from Couture. Also, Couture should be acknowledged and praised for stepping up to fight Lesnar. He knows it’s a very dangerous fight with little to gain if he wins and many internet nerds and fair weather fans will bash him if he loses…after all apparently you have to be an overrated pansy who sucks at MMA if you lose to a NCAA Champ who just so happens to arguably be the most powerful heavyweight ever, and only weighs 285lbs of fairly lean/solid freak of nature muscle-mass and moves like a lightweight. Ya your right…if Couture loses to someone like Lesnar clearly any bum behind a bar must be able to beat Couture too.

by Lord Levi on Nov 10, 2008 8:30 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Levi, truer words have never been spoken. I personally think this is a very dangerous fight for Randy. Even suggesting that Couture would ever throw a fight is ludicrous.

by Psyqo78®™ on Nov 10, 2008 9:19 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Through a fight to avoid Nog… is just a childish thought.

by THORAZINE on Nov 11, 2008 1:19 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Randy killed his own reputation with mma fans when he decided he wanted to be Hollywood. I understand, he can’t fight forever and must have something to fall back on, but the way he did it, the way he handled it, only pushed away his fans. I for one hated the way he handled his contract issues and hated that he walked away from fighting Big Nog.

by DirtyML on Nov 10, 2008 8:59 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

funny how Dana made fun of EliteXC, making Kimbo its main star and now he’s doing same thing with Brock. Brock definitely has more talent and skills than that street bum but does Brock (2-1) really deserve to fight Randy on a main event??

by FWM on Nov 10, 2008 9:59 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Does anyone realize how many fights Randy had when he got his title shot?

by Psyqo78®™ on Nov 10, 2008 10:35 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

In Randy’s fourth pro fight he beat Maurice Smith to win the belt….. there have been numberous champs that have done it in under six fights. Why wouldn’t it be a main event? It is what 90%+ viewers are tuning in to see.

by Psyqo78®™ on Nov 10, 2008 10:41 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

i just read that it was in Randy’s 4th pro fight when he got his chance. kinda like brock, eh?

by Egads on Nov 10, 2008 10:43 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

UD Win over Heath Herring sure doesn’t make you qualified to fight Randy but it’s UFC = PPV$

by KAS on Nov 11, 2008 12:28 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

There is no way Randy can win this fight. Randy can not knock Lesnar out and Brock will destroy Randy on the ground. Randy has zero submission skills. As for Elite XC they only marketed Kimbo Slice and thats it- the UFC has countless stars.

by matt on Nov 10, 2008 10:34 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Zero submission skills?

Can I quote you on that in a few days?

by Jon on Nov 10, 2008 11:55 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

OK, his sub skills aren’t zero, but Captain Paycheck has exactly two submission wins in 24 fights. And they were both chokes, not exactly high-level BJJ like Mir used to get the win over Brock.

by PW on Nov 11, 2008 11:19 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

All I could say is Gabriel Gonzaga. Everybody gave Randy no chance. oh, Gabe is too big, too strong, feel sorry for Randy blah, blah…….and look at what happened. I don’t know how this fight will turn out b/c Brock is pretty good in wrestling and much bigger and stronger, but still very green. I would guess that Randy will win by an early knockout. That’s the only way he’s going to win. Tab? doubtful…..

by Lucas on Nov 12, 2008 3:07 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Personally I think Randy’s best option is weathering the early storm (or should I say hurricane) of Lesnar’s onslaught and drag him into the deep waters. If the fight goes the distance, I see Couture retaining the title, but I don’t think he’ll be able to stop Brock. Lesnar I think, on the flipside, should try to end it early. Bum rush Randy, put him on his back and keep him there.

by Reservoirdog119 on Nov 10, 2008 11:39 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

If Randy wins he beat an unproven. If Brock wins he beat an old man. Does anyone really win except for getting to fight the Mir/Nog winner. I would rather watch Kimbo star in some bum fights. I just don’t see how Brock loses this one. It’s like Lebron playing MJ today in one-on-one. I would love to see Randy win but I think he is about to get hurt real bad. Heck what if his wife goes into the ring to stop the beating and Brock forgets where he is and beats on her flashing back to his WWF (SCREW THE PANDAS) days.

It is interesting to read some of these comment.

Big Nog is by far, the standout HW fighter in the UFC. He would and will destroy Couture, Lesnar, Mir .. you name it. No one stacks up against his striking and ground game.

I hope Randy does get up though.

Im a huge couture fan but i just can’t see how he can win this fight, regardless of lesnars lack of octagon experience. think randy’s best shot is to get through the early onslaught and hope brock gasses and i think he is too good an athlete for that to happen. Fancy brock to win by unanimous decsion by lying on randy for 5 rounds. agree 100% that this is a poor card apart from main event
