lol..they make Fitch look like one of the baddest mofos in mma..too bad he got tooled by gsp.

Fitch is a bad mofo, he’s probably the best at WW aside from GSP.
Not being able to beat GSP hardly means you suck.

You’re right, it just means he should move up to Middleweight because he’ll never be able to take GSP! :D

UFC needs to hurry up, sign Jake Sheilds and Book Fitch vs. Sheilds ASAP!!!!
I also think that the new and improved Alves would have a great chance in a rematch with Fitch. alves has become a much better fighter since loosing to fitch

Alves rematch. He will get tooled this time. Unlike GSP, Alves has enough power to put him down.

Bad move. Anderson Silva will be waiting…

Fitch was far from being ‘tooled’ by GSP. Fitch went 5 rounds with GSP. GSP hurt Fitch bad and often, yet, could not finish him. Even GSP gives credit to Fitch for being his toughest opponent and freakishly unfinishable. If you asked any UFC fighter, they’d all agree that Fitch IS a baddass mofo.

How many other people have gone 5 rounds with GSP?
Oh yeah nobody.
He is one of the baddest mofos on the planet.

fitch is really good. But they should have got a smaller guy with shorter arms to try out this myth. He could probably generate more force.
by Louis on Nov 9, 2008 12:18 PM EST reply actions
Yeah, that’s the general problem with the show. Most of the time their “experiments” are full of holes. Still, it’s entertaining to watch.
I’m sure a better puncher with shorter arms, as you say, could have punched through that coffin no problem. With the mix of proper technique, strength and adrenaline, I have no doubt someone could break through: It’s the part where you climb through six feet of packed dirt as it falls down on you into the coffin that’s the hard part.
by pud333 on Nov 9, 2008 12:26 PM EST up reply actions
No one could punch through a coffin with 6 FEET of dirt on top. It might as well be a peice of paper with dirt on top. Still not going to MOVE the dirt to punch through it. Not to even mention you would have to do this in an oxygen deprived state.

Yeah bad choice of fighter by Mythbusters. Fitch isn’t known for his striking. I think you guys are wrong about smaller guys being better for this though. No matter what the punch has to be 3’’, thats what they are testing. Its not like shorter arms will have more room. That being said someone with a more massive arm will be able to generate more power because its Force = Mass x Acceleration. Why not get Shane Carwin with his 50lb arms and 20lb paws.
by EazyEismydad on Nov 9, 2008 1:11 PM EST reply actions
Force = Mass x Acceleration. Wouldn’t Shane Carwin be best for this with his massive arms and 20lb bear hands. Its not like the shorter arms will get more distance for the punch. The control is that the punch is 3’’.

he wouldnt fit into a regular coffin thats how big that guy is

Kari Looked hot in that kill bill outfit.

they shoulda used Bas Rutten. he def woulda had somthin to say.
by to.raptors on Nov 9, 2008 2:08 PM EST reply actions
the point was to use a 3 inch punch. Not have a short guy put his whole body into the punch.
by hank on Nov 9, 2008 2:27 PM EST reply actions
Good call. A guy with shorter arms would have more room to generate power inside a coffin (even if it were still just an arm punch), but that’s not the point of this myth. It’s testing the effectiveness of a three-inch punch, not a 4 or 5 or 6-inch punch. A guy with shorter arms would still be constrained to the protocol of the experiment: 3 inches.

You guys talk too much. Fitch is a bad dude straight up. Every champion loses. Give the guy a break. I bet he could take you guys. lol ;)
Keep smiling

Actually 1500 lbs/sq in of force from a 3" punch is amazing. If you ever watched Fight Science when Quinton Jackson was on the show, he didn’t generate much more power from a “full windup” overhand right to their “wired” punching bag. I have to give full props to Fitch under the circumstances.
by TheProfessor on Nov 9, 2008 4:59 PM EST reply actions
Their rig imitating the punch was flawed. While the windup is supposed to be 3 inches, it doesn’t mean it would stop right as it hit the board – the punch would probably go through the target, whereas their rig would not go more than an inch over.

Fitch is a good wrestler but his striking sucks. Why not have a real striker do this test. A boxer would have been the best coz those guys are about 1000 times more skilled with their hands then MMA fighters. Joe Calzaghe would smash Anderson Silva in the boxing ring.
