UFC Quick Quote: Luis Cane wants to fight the best ... like Keith Jardine

"Maybe they put me against (Keith) Jardine, a tough fighter, another Top 10, but I won’t choose opponents. I’ll wait for Joe Silva decide who I’ll fight and I’m sure it won’t be easy, they’ll put me another great fighter and that’s what I want. I’m ready for that and I want to be between the best."
-- Luis Cane tells Tatame.com that he is ready to challenge the top fighters in the UFC light heavyweight division. "Banha" destroyed Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou via second round technical knockout at UFC 89: "Bisping vs. Leben" just last month. It was his second straight win -- the Brazilian heel stopped Jason Lambert at UFC 85: "Bedlam" back in June. His only loss is to James Irvin, which was ruled a disqualification because of an errant knee to the face. The 27-year-old fighter is tough as nails and comes prepared to bang, making any match up with a top 205-pound competitor a juicy one.

It’s hard not to love fighters like Cane. They really just show up to fight whoever is put in front of them.

I just watched Cane for the first time against Soko, I like this guy, he is a BAD dude. This is the future of MMA right here. He took big shots from Soko and he didnt even flinch.

Mos def! Hope this fight materializes. Even if Jardine is a crafty octagon vet, he’ll still get outplayed by Cane. Jardine’s haymakers won’t do that much damage to Cane I’m sure. He’s a gamer!

I would hardly say he “destroyed” Soko… Soko was kicking his ass actually for the majority of that fight, he just gassed. Credit to Cain though for taking some punishment!

No, he absolutely did destroy Soko. Soko never had him hurt and you could just sense Cane was going to finish him at some point which he did with relative ease. That was a mismatch and Cane is one tough dude.
by Adam on Nov 7, 2008 12:18 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Soko panics if his attacks aren’t phasing you. You could see it in his eyes as he was gassing. Cane-Jardine would be awesome. I think Cane can put him away.

Arm Triangle – Suckodjou got his ass handed to him … I guess you thought that jumping kick at the start of the second was powerful to LOL

I’m not saying that Soko is better, he lost the fight obviously. All I’m saying is that the first round went to Soko, no doubt! Then he gassed and got beat down. Soko may not have had Cain hurt, but he won the first round!

The UFC could match up Jardine/Cane coming off wins. And Vera/Sokou coming off losses.

Cane is a bad mother fu*ker. I think Jardine ends up like the rest, layed out wondering what happened.
by BNF on Nov 7, 2008 10:26 AM EST up reply actions 0 recs
I agree BNF! A while back stager lee put me on to Banha, and boy was he right.
As for this news, seriously, its about 2 weeks old!

Yea, he took some solid shots from Sokou and didnt even move! Cane might give us flash backs of Jardine/Wandy?
by JV on Nov 7, 2008 10:28 AM EST up reply actions 0 recs
I still have flash backs about that fight.

It is a shame that everytime JArdine make some good foward progrees and looks like he may be a fight or 2 away from a title shot, in steps someone to ruin his gameplan. Bonner first, Houston Alexander, and Wandy lastly.. Poor guy is a perpetual runner-up! Anyobne else who would have beat Chuck would have gotten a title shot (Rashad Evans), but since he has the personality of a rock and the promotional skills of a lump of coal- he is not marketable enough to get that title shot. Could you imagine the nightmare of a job Dana would have trying to promote that guy as a champ.
by Da Monkey on Nov 8, 2008 9:15 AM EST up reply actions 0 recs
I agree with that, you could also add Houston Alexander to that list of losers who could fight each other and anyone of those three losers should be given to Chuck Liddel. On paper he should be able to beat them, but anyone of them even Houston has the abilty to finish him in the first round. And before I get slated by any Chuck fans, I predicted that he would lose to both Jardine and Rashad Evans who the majority thought it was a joke and and an embarassment for Chuck to be fighting, but we all know what happened then.
by Ade on Nov 7, 2008 2:37 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
I couldn’t agree more. But at least Soko comes to fight. I have no desire to ever watch Vera fight again. That is how pathetic that guy is to me.

I would like to matchup jardine with some toilet paper and flush that piece of shit away. His fights are terrible.
by kazanski on Nov 7, 2008 10:23 AM EST reply actions 0 recs
He beat Forrest’s like a ragdoll; so should we flush away Griffin also while you are at it?
by Anger Jack on Nov 7, 2008 12:25 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Jardine is hard to like….he beats Chuck and Vera by decision, but prior to both of those fights he was brutally KO’d by Houston and Wanderlei in like a combined time of 1:20 seconds lol…I respect the guy for getting in the cage, but Jardine IS NOT a top 10 LHW….Only impressive thing he did in my eyes was TKO Forrest and decision Chuck….
by Chadx23 on Nov 7, 2008 10:30 AM EST reply actions 0 recs
ok, this is coming from a Jardine fan (me), but you can’t say Jardine isn’t a top 10 LHW. He is at LEAST a top 10 UFC LHW. And those 2 things he did to impress you, haven’t been repeated inside the UFC. Shogun and Rampage are considered to have better KO power than Jardine, yet neither was able to put Forrest away. And when has Chuck EVER been outworked? At the time, he had only lost to Page, so he was still pretty feared, unlike he is now. I know the whole “no one was ready for him” excuse is dead, but that was the case with Houstan. and how can you bash a guy for getting KO’d by a hungry Wanderlei Silva. Give the guy some props bro.
BTW, I don’t like this match-up for Jardine. I think he will be a big underdog, and get KO’d in the 2nd round. I hope not though.
by sinister on Nov 7, 2008 10:56 AM EST up reply actions 0 recs
who’s only loss was to page?
by 1-0 via Arm Triangle on Nov 7, 2008 11:05 AM EST up reply actions 0 recs
how can you possibly be a jardine fan? HE’S BORING not even technical like machida just flat out boring he beat chuck by boring him to death same thing rashad did, and he caught a forrest griffin that wasn’t half the guy he is now you make that matchup now and jardine would die.. i give him credit for wandy but houston lasted 8 seconds with james irvin and he destroyed jardine? jardine in my opinion should fight irvin for stupidest fuck on the planet.. how do you take pills before the biggest fight of your career james? and keith wanted to stand and trade with wanderlei silva? stupidest things i ever seen
by randy murders on Nov 7, 2008 11:09 AM EST up reply actions 0 recs
I actually like Jardine as well, even more so by not letting me down against Chuck. He is very humble guy and unpredictable when he fights. The UFC knew that Silva was a bad matchup that is why they set the fight up. People were saying why should Lesner fight Kongo when Herring beat Kongo and Lesner beat Herring, I said the same thing about Jardine fighting Silva when Chuck beat Silva and Jardine beat Chuck, but they knew Silva’s style was ideal for Jardine and it paid off for them, keeping out of title contention. Rogan commentating said that in his camp that the majority of fighters agree that there is no other guy with stronger work ethic than Jardine, that is pretty impressive considering the camp he belongs to.
by Ade on Nov 8, 2008 4:55 AM EST up reply actions 0 recs
I understand where your coming from….its just that yea Wanderlei did KO Jardine…(who didnt see it coming right?) but Chuck, who Jardine beat by decision, also went 3 rounds toe 2 toe with Wanderlei and didnt get KO’d like Jardine did…(guess Chuck was waiting for Rashad to do the job?)……After thinking about it, its not so much that I don’t like Jardine, its just that the LHW division doesn’t have someone you can look up to and say “this guy is not going to lose the belt anytime soon and we can depend on him to win decisevily for a long time” kinda like when Chuck was champ, the dude just put people away until he got beat by Rampage the 2nd time. I like consistency and nothing seems to be consistent yet in the LHW division except that Rashad Evans keeps AVOIDING losing (although he did a great job KOing Chuck)…I guess Mahcida is also pretty consistent, but other than that I dunno? I just want a consistent winner/finisher/champ
by Chadx23 on Nov 7, 2008 12:50 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
You gotta think though, MMAth doesn’t work, so the whole, Silva beats Jardine, Chuck beats Silva, Jardine beats Chuck doesn’t mean a whole lot. Individually, yeah they carry importance, but if its just a vicious circle, then you can’t really do anything about it.
On the Griffin/Jardine fight, even though Forrest was winning the entire first round, Jardine stayed in there and caught him. You’ve heard the announcers say over again that Jardine can have a rocky first round, then come back and excel in the later rounds (see Liddell and Gouveia fights).
and to RANDY MURDERS— what kind of gameplan SHOULD a striker have going against another striker? At that time, Jardine just outstruck CHUCK LIDDELL for 3 rounds, and Chuck outstruck Wandy for 3 rounds, so why wouldn’t Jardine think he could stand with Silva? That was just a stupid comment on your part dude.
by sinister on Nov 7, 2008 1:10 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
I know the MMA math doesnt work, I know that, its just that I hate that it doesnt wokr because it creates inconsistnecy. I hate seeing the handfull of fighters that I LOVE to watch get thier ass KO’d right after winning a great fight you know? It would be like Wanderlei getting KO’d to Page after I was thrilled to see him put Jardine away. Same way Rashad KO’d Chuck after a great battle with Wanderlei. I just want someone to rise up and put a consistent beat down on people in the LHW division not just at the low to mid level, but at the TOP.
by Chadx23 on Nov 7, 2008 5:19 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
And if he fought Forrest now he would get destroyed IMO. If you watch the fight Forrest was picking him apart, got a little sloppy, Jardine connected with one and took advantage of it.
Guy seems dumb as bricks too, but GJ said he’s super smart when it comes to coaching so who knows.
by WB on Nov 7, 2008 11:04 AM EST up reply actions 0 recs
I knew someoen was gonna say Jardine is not top 10. Even though his style may not be appealing to you or has got k0ed in record time, he has beaten some of the top light heavies in the world. Thats got to put him somewhere.
by c-war on Nov 7, 2008 11:32 AM EST up reply actions 0 recs
he’s got a huge hole in his game and that is the clinch.. I would probably beat him up if we clinch up at the nightclub! give him Houston Alexander again and the same thing will happen..

This guy is a bitch give James Irvin his rematch so he knock this little fucker out.
by Colin D on Nov 7, 2008 11:27 AM EST reply actions 0 recs
luis cane would destroy him this time and not get dq’ed im a huge irvin fan but he doesnt have any skill on the ground at all, shitty take down defense, and his chin isn’t that great.. all irvin has is serious power and highlight reel knockouts, and knockout losses.. luis should be fighting top10 fighters.. hes calling out jardine because he sucks..
this guy should get shogun, rampage, wandy,or machida/thiago silva, maybe even the spider at 205 he’s damn good not that he would win those but he deserves the fights
by randy murders on Nov 7, 2008 11:41 AM EST up reply actions 0 recs

by Louie on Nov 7, 2008 2:19 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
Ive already said a few times give Cain Anderson but Jardine will be just fine, Soko also needs to fight Vera.
Soko didnt get destroyed by Cain……you people are seriously dumb or something he was winning the fight 100% no challenge till he gassed.

I think the division needs some clarification, there are too many un-answered questions amongst some of the wins/losses. some rematches need to happen for the simple fact that anyone can win 1 fight.
id like to see the following-
chuck v jardine
cain v vera
wandi v rampage (happening)
machida v thiago (happening)
franklin v hendo (happening)
griffin v evans (happening)
a silva v rampage/griffin/evans/liddell
soko v alexander
shogun v coleman (happening)
bonnar v boetsch
depending on the winners of these fights other fights can get drawn up e.g.
rampage v machida!!
At the moment almost any of these guys could beat another on any given day!!
