WEC weigh in results for 'Faber vs Brown' -- Filho comes in seven pounds over!

Fighters will today tip the scales at 4 p.m. ET for the official WEC 36: "Faber vs. Brown" weigh-in event at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Fla. -- the scene for all the action tomorrow night (November 5).

It's the last of the formalities leading up to highly anticipated show, which was delayed because of the threat Hurricane Ike posed to the South Florida region back in September.

WEC Featherweight Champion Urijah "The California Kid" Faber (21-1) and middleweight title holder Paulo Filho (16-0) will defend their respective belts in the featured matches on the card.

Here are the official WEC 36 weigh in results:

Star-divide

145 lbs.: WEC Featherweight Champion Urijah "The California Kid" Faber (144.5) vs. Mike Brown (145)**
185 lbs.: WEC Middleweight Champion Paulo Filho (189) vs. Chael Sonnen (184.5)***
145 lbs.: Jens " Little Evil" Pulver (146) vs Leonard Garcia (145.5)
185 lbs.: Jake Rosholt (185.5) vs. Nissen Osterneck (184.5)
155 lbs.: "Razor" Rob McCullough (155.5) vs. Donald "Cowboy" Cerrone (156)
185 lbs.: David Avellan (185) vs. Aaron Simpson (184.5)
145 lbs.: Jose Aldo (146) vs. Jonathan Brookins (146)
205 lbs.: Carmelo Marrero (206) vs. Steve Steinbeiss (202)
155 lbs.: Rafael Dias (155) vs. Danny Castillo (156)
135 lbs.: Rani Yahya (137) vs. Yoshiro Maeda (135)

*Fighters are allowed one extra pound in non-title bouts

*UPDATE* Three fighters on the card failed to make weight on their first attempt. Rani Yahya came in one pound heavy in his scheduled 135 pound bout. His opponent Yoshiro Maeda has agreed to fight him at that weight.

**Main event participant Mike Brown weighed in a half a pound heavy for his featherweight title fight with Urijah Faber. He was eventually able to make the contracted weight of 145 pounds on his second attempt.

***And middleweight champion Paulo Filho tipped the scales for his rematch against Chael Sonnen seven pounds over the 185 pound limit. He, too, was given two hours to lose the weight. However, he came in at 189 pounds on his second attempt.

Filho and Sonnen will still fight; however it will be a three-round nontitle match.

Remember that MMAmania.com will provide up to the minute news and results before, during and after tomorrow night's festivities. WEC 36 will air live on the Versus network, beginning at 8 p.m. ET -- don't miss it ... this could be among the best events of the year!

No doubt… And I am sick of politics. This is just an all around sick card. No better reason to pound some beer on a Wednesday!!!

I’m calling it now Filho does not make weight.

by DDT on Nov 4, 2008 3:48 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

I wouldn’t be surprised. He’s afraid to rematch Sonnen for some reason.

by jj on Nov 4, 2008 4:10 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

oooohh!! Filho didnt make weight!! good call

by Toad on Nov 4, 2008 5:25 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

DDT called that for sure… WTF!

by BNF on Nov 4, 2008 5:32 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Good call DDT. That bitch probably crammed a few double cheeseburgers into his gullet this morning just to get out of his long-awaited ass-kicking from Sonnen.

by PW on Nov 4, 2008 5:44 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Hell yes!!! Totally called that!!!

by DDT on Nov 4, 2008 5:46 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Damn, now I’m sad that the fight will be tainted (if they even have it). I hope Sonnen beats that fool to a pulp!!!

How many fans has Filho alienated in the last 6 months. This guy is a head case.

by RealDrew on Nov 4, 2008 6:58 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

How many fans?…Eh, all 3 of them I think.

by RobH86 on Nov 4, 2008 7:45 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Did Filho get lost and up at the casino buffet this morning?? How does that happen? Seven friggin pounds?? Did he swallow a turkey?

That’s gonna hurt in the wallet—his paycheck will get docked for missing weight.

by BobC on Nov 4, 2008 10:44 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

This really sucks for Chael. Now he may win, and still not get the title. Why should he have to suffer because Filho is a dumb ass?

by naturalshadow on Nov 4, 2008 10:56 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

What happens if a champ doesn’t make weight

by onthebutton on Nov 4, 2008 5:19 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Is this still going to be a title fight? Anyone know

by onthebutton on Nov 4, 2008 5:28 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

non-title fight it’s gonna be…

by Syd[a.k.a."The Negation"] on Nov 5, 2008 1:51 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I think he is fined for like half his purse and part goes to Sonnen and the other part to the commission? Im probably wrong but I think I remember reading that before.

by c-war on Nov 4, 2008 5:30 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I know that when lutter missed weight against Anderson that it wasn’t a title fight then but he was the challenger.

by onthebutton on Nov 4, 2008 5:32 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

He gets 2 hours to loose the weight. If he fails he will be at the mercy of his opponent, the WEC, and the athletic commission. Most likely the fight will still happen, but the title wont be up for grabs.

Technically it could be considered a loss/DQ, but I doubt Sonnen will allow that. He will definitely be fined a portion of his purse by the commission.

by rctrue on Nov 4, 2008 7:11 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

WOW!!! 7lbs in a title fight?! Not acceptable!

by Big Jake on Nov 4, 2008 5:28 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

That donkey ass motherfucker talks about repect and all that crap. He said he was taught to respect the game, your opponent, etc, etc….

coming in 7 pounds over in far from respecting either. Strip that asshole of the belt. I hope Sonnen still fights him and beats the living piss out of him again.

by fightfan on Nov 4, 2008 7:05 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

wow, good call DDT, I’m impressed!

by kevin on Nov 4, 2008 7:08 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I’m really looking forward to this card. Both title fights should be exciting, and there are some great up-and-comers fighting on the main card as well. I’m impressed by the progression of the WEC.

by GregC on Nov 4, 2008 4:00 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Why doesn’t the UFC have the lighter weight classes?

by Nate on Nov 4, 2008 4:05 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Because it would take away air time for the existing weight classes.

by ViolentMike on Nov 4, 2008 4:11 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I figured that with more weight classes, there would be more title fights, making it easier for Dana to promote events.

by Nate on Nov 4, 2008 4:15 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Why would Dana do that? He’s too busy dicking around by letting every guy with a title fight in other weight classes…hence less title fights anyway.

by introvert on Nov 4, 2008 4:23 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

This “dicking” is giving us a Mega fight of BJ Penn vs George St Pierre, thats for the welterweight title. A heavyweight title match in November. We also have the Interim Heavyweight title on the line in December and the Light Heavyweight belt as well. Finally a unification Heavyweight match probably in March. Yeah we have no championship matches at all.

by dandeman on Nov 4, 2008 4:43 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Only you would consider Dana putting together BJ/GSP as “dicking around”. Amazing…

by BNF on Nov 4, 2008 4:47 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Is there a live feed online somewhere that you guys know of?

by introvert on Nov 4, 2008 4:22 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

by WowJustwow on Nov 4, 2008 5:27 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Wow filho needs to get his head into fighting, all the problems he has had lately.

by onthebutton on Nov 4, 2008 5:36 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Filho is only 5’8 tall. how can he not make 185. i think miguel torres is that tall.

by b.w. on Nov 4, 2008 5:56 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

actually, torres is listed at 5’9. so there are guys at 135 that are taller than fihlo. this dudes got problems, and moving up to lhw is not the answer.

by b.w. on Nov 4, 2008 5:58 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

What a freaking joke! He’s definitely no Anderson Silva. 7 lbs? Are you serious?!?!

by LJ on Nov 4, 2008 6:12 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

What the f—-! Dudes gonna loose a fan here and a shot at a great mma career…

by obsessedwithsports on Nov 4, 2008 6:28 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

GSP/Penn isn’t a smart move for the UFC if you think about it. No matter who wins a champion looks bad. God help us all if Penn wins because he won’t shut up about it. I also think that BJ doesn’t want to fight Kenny Florian right now and is hoping he loses to Stevenson.

by Dark Church on Nov 4, 2008 6:47 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

What are you talking about? How can a champion look bad if he loses in an exciting, close fight? You are talking like its gonna be a one sided blowout. BJ vs GSP is gonna be a real fight, and I highly doubt that either guy, regardless if they lose, will look bad.

On a side note, I love kenny, but I think Penn would take him. Kenny will have a hard enough time with Joe Daddy.

by Dayvet on Nov 4, 2008 6:53 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

way to go Filho… go eat another big mac. That guy is soooo overrated, and apparently quite unprofessional as well. Cut him from the team WEC… strip that title!

by Andiesel on Nov 4, 2008 6:54 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

I fully expect GSP to finish Penn in the 2nd or 3rd round. Also Penn’s reume at 170 is not to good. GSP has beaten him before and is a much better fighter now. Penn is improved as well but he has terrible cardio at 170.

by Dark Church on Nov 4, 2008 6:59 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Neither BJ Penn nor GSP have defended their titles enough to justify their fight (one defense each). Anderson Silva has cleared out his division, so fine, book a superfight.

But BJ Penn has had Florian waiting for his shot forever. And you know he’s not coming back to 155 IF he wins against GSP (don’t think he will), and will stall the who division again.

GSP has Alves on deck as well. These are no brainers. As others have said, BJ vs GSP, either way, you hurt a champion in your own company.

by kmac on Nov 4, 2008 7:12 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Filho can eat a bag of dicks.

by Jon on Nov 4, 2008 7:16 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

lol i bet cheal is pissed

by patrick on Nov 4, 2008 7:21 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

10 bucks it becomes a non-title fight.

by mrBlonde on Nov 4, 2008 7:35 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

If i was Cheal, I would still fight him and fight for the title. 7 lbs wont make or break the fight for sonnen. If I was the WEC I wold kick him out and tell him to go look for a diff emoployer. He is a moron.

by What?? on Nov 4, 2008 7:50 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Give us Yahya and Maeda on the main card if the Sonnen fight doesn’t happen.

what do you expect with a guy who has a tatoo of Mike Tyson on his arm

by iota on Nov 4, 2008 9:22 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

I hope filho gets whooped so everyone will stop talking about him as one of the top fighters in the world.. Contender for anderson? Give me a break… He cant beat marquardt, leites, henderson, damien maia, and he wont beat sonnen..

by mike22 on Nov 4, 2008 10:10 PM EST reply actions   0 recs
