MMA fighters on Election Day 2008 (Video)
Let's not go nuts here like the Hughes/Obama thread otherwise we'll shut down the comments section again.
It's interesting to hear some feedback from several fighters on their respective choices and the reasons behind those choices. In case you didn't know, today is Election Day in the United States.
For more head over to Sherdog.com, which includes a more detailed explanation from Karo Parisyan (he holds back in the video above).

Shame on your wife, Trigg, for being a Cubs fan.

maybe this is the right forum. I don’t really like either candidate, but it doesn’t matter because Obama already won! McCain would tax the middle class more and let the rich keep their money. My dad always votes republican for this reason, he is so pissed to have to vote for a “pompous ass like McCain” today, especially with a woman who shouldn’t live in Washington, never mind being one heart attack away from running it.
Obama…I don’t trust him! Any man who is mentored by and looks up to a man who spits forth hatred towards america and whites, and only distances himself after being nominated, in my opinion can’t be trusted. As far as politics goes, I like Obama’s ideas and policies, but don’t trust him. It’s a lose/lose, one may die in office, and one has a good shot at being assassinated.

If I was American I wouldnt have a clue who to vote for, both are bad in my eyes. It would just be choosing the lesser of the two evils. As MMA is my biggest hobby and I cant imagine life without it (not in a suicidal way _) I aint voting for McCain. But Obama is so fake and phony. Wants to pussy out of middle east and let terrorists run loose. I vote UKIP or conservative in UK. UKIP baby!

Actually McCain isn’t against MMA with the current rules in place. He has said it isn’t his cup of tea but it is no longer “human cockfighting” as it was in the begining

I don’t know how much your life does or doesn’t suck, but if you’re expecting Obama ( or any pres for that matter) to help with your depsperate needs don’t hold your breath.

why are we in Iraq to begin with? sadam Hussein? there are 100’s of dictators just as or more brutal than he was, but we’re not there. There is zero reason to be in this war but oil, and we’re not getting that. Me personally, I would have nuked Iran and Iraq, stole their oil and saved american lives and money!!!

For anyone who has not voted yet and intending to, don’t base it on MMA and certainly not what any of these knuckleheads have to say.
As far as McCain on the MMA topic, he has actually been complimentary of the sport. His comments early (“human cockfighting”) led to the revamping of the sport as we know it today. He has since stated when asked about MMA that the sanctioning and weight classes has allowed for better organization and fighter safety and no longer opposes it or has any plans to work with legislation to ban it.
Shocking that Karo would not have a clue who McCain is!

“Wants to pussy out of the middle east and let terrorist run loose.” Is this what the foreign policy of America has come down to? I hope not, it sounds way too much like an ignorant macho mentality. I don’t understand why we don’t listen to the terrorist who are attacking us. They love that we are in the middle east because it makes it so much easier to recruit new terrorist. For every one that we kill, there are two to take his/her place. Besides, there are so many terrorist factions, that eliminating terrorism is like trying to grab smoke. There are more efficient way to reduce terrorism, war is not the answer.

“Matt Hughes is the perfect representation of a McCain supporter.”
Was that comment intended to be a jab at McCain’s supporters? I’ll take it as a complement. Matt Hughes is a success. Just because you disagree with his views doesn’t make him any less of a success. He was one of the best fighters on the planet for years. He’s a family man and he’s worked hard for what he’s achieved. I would consider myself a success if I’ve achieved what Matt Hughes has.

One could argue that W. is a “success” as well. I mean he was (is) president. Success does not necessarily equate with anything else positive. W. is a douche, Hughes is a douche. They both like to pump themselves up by way of putting down others. They both think that they’re an authority on what’s right and wrong, when both are shining examples of how you should not treat others.

I live in Canada and our election about a month ago didn’t get the coverage that the American candidates are getting. I guess the rest of the world is waiting to see which way States are going to go. My votes goes for free and fair elections.
by TKO on Nov 4, 2008 1:22 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
I love Canada and Canadians, but the reason your election got so little coverage is because Canada has less than 1% the influence that the US does in terms of world economy, world policy, world media, and world entertainment. That is not to say the US is better in anyway, just far more influencing (both good and bad) as a result of historically freer economy combined with a much larger population concentrated in a near perfect geographical situation (friendly neighbors on both sides, massive coastlines on both sides (easy to defend as well as trade), full mix of climates, ect ect). The US could not have any better neighbor than Canada though and Canada really is pretty close in all arenas except population and warm weather climates (year round warmth that is)…and Canada seems to put out the best comedians for some reason too, such a funny bunch you are!

I’m not even American and that pisses me off. And the sad thing is that sooooo many people think like him. Yeah, the system is flawed and corrupt and neither of the candidates is all that great. But not voting because you think is doesn’t matter? Then go and live somewhere else under a dictatorship and we’ll see if it doesn’t matter!

I beleive you have to be a little evil to want to be a politician in the first place…I love how typical McCain supporters still stay stuff like “Obama wants to take our guns away!! He wants to ban hunting” when it has never ever been said…The tax thing is funny as only 5% of Americans make more than what Obama plans on taxing…even in newspaper articles whenever there is a mention of Obama s tax plan they always provide a factual footnote reitierating that the Obama tax plan only applies to those at $250k and above (not Obama says this is what the plan is, rather THIS IS the plan)…that said Obama is the lesser of the 2 evils this time around….lesss do it

It was in the video James. I love how Obama supporters say that McCain try to ban MMA. when in all actuality he tried to ban the UFC before it was “MMA”. Huge difference! The evolution of this sport has alot to do with his actions. He played a major part in sanctioning, the application of rules and weight classes. He didn’t set the sport back he actually helped push it forward.

Well – Obama keeps talking one thing then another – I have heard a lot of numbers lately & they are all below 250k originally mentioned.
Another question is why should 5% pay more percentage of income for tax than others (if it is 5% indeed – I would not trust it to be 100% true)? [I come from a country with flat income tax; and that 5% is already paying majority of american taxes]
And finally – with economy in the toilet – raising taxes will exacerbate the situation even more (Obama even mentioned it himself)
by Anger Jack on Nov 4, 2008 3:52 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
The five percent already pay larger income tax than others. The larger your salery, the higher level of tax bracket you are put into. So not only are you paying more than lower income people because you make more money, ( ex. 20,000 a yr would pay 1,000 a yr @ 5% and 200,000 a yr pays 10,000 a yr @ 5% using 5 percent as an example, not an actual taxing percentage used) but you also are bumped up to higher percentages 20,000 a yr still taxed at 5% while 200,000 is taxed at 7.5%… again example figures only. Plus people with higher income make bigger purchases meaning they also pay out larger sales tax amounts. I make roughly 30,000 a yr on paper. I pay out 1,500 througout the yr in taxes. When I file, I will get back about 6,000 in tax return and child tax credits. I am not complaining, but I can see where this logic is more of a problem than a solution.

Senator Obama does have a voting record as both an Illinois (I live in IL) and United States Senator. His record is not appealing to gun owners on this issue. For example, he is endorsed by The Brady Campaign, the largest gun control organization in the US.
http://www.bradycampaign.org/media/release.php?release=1040
He is also endorsed by the Humane Society of the US, one of the largest anti-hunting lobby organizations.
https://community.hsus.org/humane/notice-description.tcl?newsletter_id=27497157
This national lobby group has nothing to do with local pet shelters of the same name:
The HSUS was founded in 1954 by journalist Fred Myers and three others. HSUS founders did not seek to duplicate the efforts of hundreds of local societies working to help animals, and did not intend to operate its own animal shelters. Instead, they decided to tackle cruelties of national scope, seeking to resolve animal welfare problems by applying strategies, resources, and solutions beyond the capability of local organizations.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Humane_Society_of_the_United_States
I don’t care what Senator Obama has said since he decided to run for President, I care about his past voting record and his party’s record, as it is likely they will be in power.
This is only one issue, but anyone who has done their research and cares about gun rights should put this issue in the “con” column for Senator Obama.

The US is ranked 37th worldwide because there is a heavy amount of “fairness” weighed in the rankings. Fairness of course is seen as being much higher when everyone is covered, no matter what the quality.
Another major element is total cost…the US spends more than any nation on earth (cost/person) which is seen as a detriment.
Meanwhile, the US has the number 1 facilities, the number 3 response time (how quickly you can get things like an MRI) and the number one doctors (by a long shot). Its just that not everyone has access to them all because not everyone is insured.
From that, you might be able to make a better judgment on the topic as to how you personally would rank the US.
by noneed4name on Nov 4, 2008 4:43 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
The reason our health care is so high right now is because of all the bogus lawsuits and one of the biggies is all the illegals that get free health care in this country, well it’s not really free because we pay for it on our end. Someone has to pay for it and the illegals sure don’t. I’ve been waiting on knee surgery thru the VA medical center for a year now, something that if I went thru a regular doctor could have been done within a week. Everyone I’ve heard talk from these other countries say it’s terrible. People well off in Canada come over the border to the U.S. for medical reasons because of their health system. Yeah it really sounds like it works. Go ahead and follow those idiots right off the side of the mountain. Blind leading the blind.
by Rubberman on Nov 4, 2008 4:46 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Canadians come to the US because of three reasons: 1 – if they can afford it, they can choose their doctors; 2 – there are far better specialists available in the US than in Canada; 3 – you can get expensive treatment immediately if you can afford it, whereas in Canada you have to wait in line like everyone else even if you have all the money in the world.
Otherwise, Canada has excellent coverage where you would not know the difference in quality at the basic level…and you would be covered no matter what your situation.
The US certainly is better if you have money. $12k/year gets you an excellent family plan. But if you cannot afford it, Canada is surely better.
by noneed4name on Nov 4, 2008 6:06 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
I’ve got an amazing family plan for 6K a yr, and that’s one of the more expensive plans. I have a 15 dollar co pay, can see any doctor I prefer that’s in my plan network ( most all are because my ins co pays like 70cents on the dollar which is a lot compared to most ins companies) and it also includes dental and vision. I could go through cheaper HMO’s and see the doctor they want me to see and pay 4,000 a year. Plus in Oklahoma we have soonercare. I actaully qualify to get free insurance through the state, which I am thinking of switching to for 09’ just to get some dept paid off and save the extra 500 a month. 12k a yr must be with prexisting conditions. you can pay out of pocket for a lot of doctor’s visits and minor procedures with 12k a yr. would defeat the purpose of having insurance.

I agree that capitalism is the reason America is the super power it is today. Competition forces people to excel. However, Barack is far from a socialist canidate. Since when is taking back the tax cuts of the wealthiest socialism? I guess the new definition of socialism is 4.6%. If your so worried about socialism, you should all focus your attention to the 700 billion bailout bill which has far more socialist ideas than obama’s policy.

My bet = “I do not know / do not want to say who I am voting for” = McCain vote…
I need to find out who Lelie Sobieski, Tom Wopat, and the cast of the Hills are voting for….I do not make a move until I know where these elite stand

I know Heidi from the Hills is voting republican, as for the rest, your guess is as good as any.

I need to know when Sobieski is going to be topless in a movie. That is vital information!!

The most hilarious part about “democracy in action” is this is supposed to be one of the biggest turn outs in voters in a long time and only 130 million people are voting.
That isn’t even half the American population.
Pretty sad.
Both candidates are bad choices, the entire system needs to evolve past democrats and republicans, Americans have evolved in the last one hundred years, their political system should to.

Keep in mind, there are 10-20 millions illegal immigrants, felons, people 17 and under, none of which are allowed to vote.

But some of the dead folks in Ohio that have voted are making up for the others.

Barack Obama can rot in hell, that socialist pig.
by xxBAxx816 on Nov 4, 2008 3:48 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
Barack Obama is socialist?!? Obama is barely left of center, if he’s even left of center at all. Well, except in the good ole US of A where the politcal spectrum is skewed so far to the right that anyone who’s even remotely close to center is viewed as an extremist.
by Joe Smith on Nov 4, 2008 5:02 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
How is it skewed to the right? We have had a progressive tax rate for years, welfare for years, Social Security for years…etc etc. Not everything is socialized, but it is hardly skewed to the right.
If the right had their way there would be a tiny single rate flat tax (or no tax at all) and nearly no Federal programs except for national defense.
I am not advocating either side here, but let’s get fact straight. If anything, both Obama and McCain had socialist leanings, just Obama is a little more to the left.

Yep. She is retarded. If I were American I would have to vote for Obama. Not sure if he’s the real deal but fu*k can’t take the risk of Palin screwing the world up further than it already is. Anyways I’d still choose Obama over McCain even without that muppet Palin in the picture.

I wanted the Ron Paul Revolution to win…too bad hes not running, only man whos views make sense for this country and no one listened to him…its a shame.
Anybody who doesnt know who he is or what he stands for look him up, his political views are exactly what we need to rebuild ths country and stop trying to police others.
by mikey on Nov 4, 2008 7:06 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
vote bob barr. His view are almost identical since both are libertarians.

Obama has been a senator for 16 MONTHS , and now he wants to be president????
That is too funny. Its like working for Microsoft for 16 months then wanting to be there president, but of course president of the USA is a much larger scale just using an exzample.
Also the name Obama is a little too close of a name to Osama they are probably cousins.
