Kimbo Slice vs Seth Petruzelli rematch rumored for New Year's Eve in Japan

Kimbo Slice (3-1) is eyeing a return to action against the man who defeated him in just 14 seconds at Elite XC: "Heat" on October 4, Seth "The Silverback" Petruzelli (10-4), according to an interview in a recent article with the Sun-Sentinel.

The possible destination for the rematch is the DREAM K-1 New Year's Eve event in Japan.

Petruzelli was a last minute replacement for an injured Ken Shamrock when he faced Kimbo the first time around. He stunned the bearded brawler and an arena full of his hometown faithful that night by landing a straight right directly on the button and finishing him off in only 14 seconds.

The win didn't come without some negative effects for Petruzelli, however. He made some comments on an Orlando morning radio program two days later that reeked of possible match fixing. The interview sparked an investigation into Elite XC and later was among the contributing causes to the promotion going under.

Regardless, Petruzelli was quick to say he would give Slice a rematch at the post event presser in Sunrise. And realistically it was only a matter of time before the fight was inked. But with the demise of the promotion, it was uncertain whether or not Petruzelli vs. Kimbo II would ever happen.

Both fighters are free agents now (or will be soon) and if this latest report is active, we'll be seeing the two square off again before the end of 2008.

Petruzelli is a wrestling and karate expert who likes to finish his opponents with his striking. Nine times he's had his hand raised because of a knockout. His only losses in his eight-year career have come to UFC veterans Gan McGee, Mario Neto, Matt Hamill and Wilson Gouveia.

Kimbo made his mark on the entertainment world by knocking out dudes in Miami backyards. By airing the footage on YouTube.com he became an overnight celebrity and fighting professionally soon became his calling.

He enlisted the help of legendary mixed martial artist Bas Rutten as his head trainer and he's been training consistently for more than two years now. His first setback was the loss to Seth and it'll be interesting to see how he responds in his next fight ... especially if it's a rematch with "The Silverback."

Also rumored to be competing on the DREAM K-1 New Year's Eve event are Joachim Hansen, Hayato "Mach" Sakurai, Kazushi Sakuraba, Shinya Aoki, Tatsuya Kawajiri, Mitsuhiro Ishida, Masakazu Imanari, Takeshi Yamazaki, Atsushi Yamamoto, Kuniyoshi Hironaka, Minowaman, Kiyoshi Tamura, Seichi Ikemoto, Yuichi Nakanishi, Yasuhiro Kido, Yoshihiro Sato, Norifumi "KID" Yamamoto, Caol Uno, Hideo Tokoro, Masakatsu Funaki, Katsuyori Shibata, Junichi Sawayashiki, Taishin Kohiruimaki, Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic, Gegard Mousasi and Hong Man Choi.

Star studded to say the least.

With a lineup like this, it's safe to say Kimbo and Seth won't be main eventing this one. If so, it will be the first time in his career that the Miami native was not the headliner.

We'll keep you posted on more news regarding this fight and event as it's announced.

read this yesterday, posted by john and didn’t believe it.
I figured it may be kinda true, like I said before, kimbo will be fighting in Japan or in wwe.
Japan is notorious for doing the same thing elite did by the way, but I still got seth in the rematch, his confidence level is sky high, and he knows a short jab/cross on one foot can drop kimbo.
can kimbo get a passport to go to japan?

Just had to post this vid again. One of my favorites. An alternate view of the 1st fight between these 2:

funny, i would not watch this live, or even tune in at wait for this fight.. kimbo was fighting at rick ross’ house for money the other day..

by mikeybear on Oct 30, 2008 1:38 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

is this for real?
by the way, that video never gets old.
if thats true, I called that too, although i did say it would be at his pimps house and what I meant is can he get a work visa. mike tyson isn’t allowed in the UK cause he’s a rapist and snoop dog took special permission to get in. I was asking a serious question

I’m assuming Kimbo has a criminal record, but has there been any reports that verify this? If he does have a felony he’s going to run into problems.

by RiverHorror on Oct 30, 2008 2:54 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

pretty sure kimbo has a clean record, those back yard fights, police were able to nothing about them since both combatants agreed to the fight

That clip was pretty freakin hilarious

did you think I was lying?

by john on Oct 30, 2008 7:09 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

with that line up and the fact that kimbo can’t be a draw in japan, they will be fighting the night befoe in the ally next to the venue, pay will be a plane ticket home and enough food stamps to feed kimbo’s obnoxiously big family and entourage for a week. he’s so there!!!
seth is negotiating for a hotel room too!

edit:
I called this too, I said kimbo is japan bound or wwe bound! john reported this yesterday, and I didn’t think it could be true, can kimbo leave the country(get a passport) and will japan let him in?

by kevin (some guys hate me...and I don't care) on Oct 30, 2008 12:43 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

What Kevin, Kimbo doesn’t strike you as a world traveler with his passport in order? LOL… And why wouldn’t Japan let him in?

by BNF on Oct 30, 2008 1:11 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

As far as I kow Kimbo doesn’t have an arrest record. Thus, getting a visa and a passport should not be a problem. However, defeating Seth raises some problems.

I got seth too, but can’t imagine this being a draw in japan…oh wait they love big freak shows who get ko’d!

Cro Cop is saying he’s rematching Overeem at this event. Should be a real nut buster. Hope his new year’s resolution is to be impotent. Haha j/k

Crocop is going to lose that fight.

This is the natural progression of a fading celebrity. Soak up the American dollars and then take the show overseas. I can see Kimbo being popular in Japan, not neccisarily as a fighter. Maybe he should appear on a Japanese game show or something, that might boost his popularity in Japan. After he’s soaked up all the dollars he can find overseas he will return to the U.S. and appear on a reality show of some sort. Maybe celebrity rehab or something like that.

It’s sadly entertaining to watch this pathetic decent into obscurity.

There’s always Surreal Life, maybe a Kimbo-centric dating show like Flavor of Love or Rock of Love. And Hulk Hogan has some atrocious celebrity wrestling show on the Country Music channel. The possibilities are endless.

Japan loves specialized rules (so it wont be “fixing” the fight as a stand-up fight) and they can have Bob Sapp as the ref so if Kimbo wins Sapp power bombs him after to set up the next event;
Ultimate Untalented American’s II.

by sycboi on Oct 30, 2008 2:03 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

i don’t think it matters if this fight will be a big draw or not cuz there’s no way it will be the main event. the fight will just be interspersed somewhere during the evening. like kevin said, it’s just a payday for these guys.

however, if something crazy happens in the fight, maybe one of them will get a little notoriety in japan (ala bob sapp)….who knows.

by B_Hos on Oct 30, 2008 2:05 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

A rematch!?! WHY!?!?! Kimbo got his arse kicked… move on Kimbo… maybe a fight with an actual HEAVYWEIGHT is in order. Fighters don’t need to avenge EVERY loss… frick… give Bob Sapp a call… see what that big galloot is up to these days! This Seth/Kimbo thing better not turn into another shamrock/ortiz ordeal… good grief!!

by Andiesel on Oct 30, 2008 2:25 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Bob Sapp would kill Kimbo. Kill.

by bostonmmajunkie on Oct 30, 2008 2:28 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

There is no sanctioning committee in Japan so they can just pay Seth to take a dive to turn Kimbo’s fame in USA into marketable in Japan.

I hope Seth takes him down and submits him in 14 seconds this time, just to prove Kimbo is terrible at both.

Who is Cro Cop fighting? Is he gonna fight Overeem again?

And he already said he needs surgery on his knee, so he has an excuse all lined up for his loyal fans.

This will be more exiting than most ufc cards.

Seth is gonna pull the repeater on Kimbo. Kimbo may be learning the sport, but you can’t teach a chin. Seth by TKO.

I wonder if Kimbo is going to take Dana’s offer to be on TUF? Hahaha, they would send him home too—just like Seth!

by JS on Oct 30, 2008 4:46 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

he would be a fool not to, the massive hype it would recreate for the show would be through the roof. and it would be a giant boost to his attention seeking ego. in all honesty this would be pure genius on dana whites part but also on kimbos part based on weekly exposure

by Product on Oct 30, 2008 6:08 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Here is the problem. Kimbo would beat up most of us, but he is not ready for the BIG time yet. Seth wont stop him as fast but he will win the fight easily. It’s just like Mike Tyson’s punchout: survive the first few minutes and your good. Sorry Kimbo…..

kimbo just needs to grow a thicker beard….that way he’ll have more cushion….or be able to hide a metal plate in there. LOL

by E. Fairway on Nov 1, 2008 9:18 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

This goes to show that all real fights end up on the ground, and if a guy falls down and can’t get up or protect himself from punches, how is he going to win a fight against world class guys like this. I just wish someone would post an analysis, strike-by-strike so I know why Kimbo went down. I didn’t see a powerful strike before he went down. Looks like he just lost his balance, went down, and then didn’t know how to defend himself on the ground.
