WEC Quick Quote: Leonard Garcia wants Jens Pulver to throw in the towel

[Jens] reaction time is a little slower than it used to be. I'm a little younger, a little quicker and a little stronger. My goal in this fight is to break him mentally. I don't care about knocking him out, I don't care about submitting him - my perfect night is him turning to the referee and telling him he doesn't want to fight anymore.
-WEC featherweight contender Leonard Garcia talks to MMAmania's own Pro MMA Radio about his number one contender fight with mixed martial arts legend Jens Pulver at WEC 36 on November 5th. Will the "Bad Boy" retire the former UFC lightweight champion? Or is "Little Evil" too much for the fiesty up-and-comer? We'll find out next week.

I don’t think either fighter will be able to finish this fight but that doesn’t mean that we aren’t in store for an Instant Classic! These two are going to Bang it out and it should be very entertaining.
Fight of the night if you ask me!

John-
Agreed. After witnessing Garcia’s heart in his match w/ Huerta and how competitive Pulver was w/ Faber.
Plus, Pulver’s propensity for banging it out…
However, I see Pulver actually TKO’ing Garcia.
by OJR on Oct 29, 2008 11:37 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I suppose that is possible. especially since Garcia throws wild punches and leaves himself wide open. Combine that with Jens technical boxing and it is possible for Jens to finish him, but If I had to bet, I say a decision. Garcia is just too scrappy!

pulver is already a nobody i give him 3-5 more fights and let him go 4-6 in the next 6 fights if he makes it that far. garica is carzy he laughs and smiles at pain.. little evil is long gone..

A comment so confusing and full of typos shouldn’t be posted twice.

What a shitty thing to say to Pulver/ Pulver is going to be pissed’.. I don’t really care for Garcia, but he’ll will win via decision.

Thats a pretty dumb statement, considering in his last fight he was the first guy to take Faber to the 5th rd in the WEC. Your saying inbetween his last fight with Faber and this one that he’s suddenly washed up?

maybe so maybe not but… being young has it’s advantages, strength, quickness, tenacity… but i know one thing i’m 34 now and the rob u at 34 would destroy the rob u at 22. there is no substitute for experience, i don’t care how strong, quick or aggressive you are what you don’t know will finish you. jens by UD

Sure hell hope so rob u.. I think Leonard will pull it off… but I freakin’ hope Jens knocks Garcia’s cokehead into the 3rd row for that disrespectful comment alone.

exactly… say what you want about jens… he is no quitter
by sanshouer on Oct 29, 2008 1:27 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
That’s exactly how I feel, Pulver would never, ever quit… if he didn’t quit agains Faber there’s no way in hell he’ll do that against Cokehead.

He may win the fight but he has a better chance of submiting or KOing Pulver, cu he damn sure isn’t gonna quit!

Good idea, wear him out mentally so he tells the ref he quits…… you are a moron

Pulver still has the heart to threaten any FW out there.
If he can dictate the pace he can win it and he can do it convincingly. However, Leonard can as well.
This fight could be a jawdropper.

I seriously doubt he is going to quit, Leonard. He went 5 rounds with Faber and held his own. It would be a miracle if you were to successfully pull off such a far-fetched gameplan.

exactly Ryan! I hope Jens beats him down.

great match-up but what is with Jens’ chin/throat in that pic?
by sycboi on Oct 28, 2008 11:49 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
hahaha wow. Everytime I look at that picture now, I am going to try to figure that out. He almost looks like he has a chin similar to some of those tribal people from the Discovery Channel.

Totally true. That is a big feat. He was just saying that would be his perfect night. He didnt say he could do it. Pulver is another guy that I wouldnt count out. He hasnt done that well lately but he has some fight left in him for sure. There is no question that he is willing to bang it out. If he goes back to the old Jens, Garcia is in for a long long night.
by enzo-enormous on Oct 28, 2008 11:50 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Good point. He said it was his goal to break him mentally. Tough goal to reach. Especially against a guy like Jens Pulver. Garcia would be smart to set a different goal in terms of victory.
by RyanHobbs on Oct 28, 2008 11:59 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
his 2 losses are against 2 of the best in the world P4P i dont see how e hasnt done that well lately specially one that was an absolute 5 round war
by randy murders on Oct 29, 2008 1:32 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
While that is true, people still see the losses as significant. Some people were saying that Dan Henderson might need to retire after back to back losses against Rampage and Anderson Silva. Those are two great fighters and they were both the current champs of their divisions but it is still difficult to look past the losses. I think Pulver is doing just fine.

Garcia Will Get Ko’d From Pulver’s Left That He’ll Have Loaded Up
Waiting To Launch Second Round Ko…First Round Will Be A War For Sure Though..
Thats How I See It

Garcia should watch the Pulver/Swanson fight because that’s what happened the last time somebody ran his mouth about Little Evil. Pulver is gonna knock Garcia’s head off and once he does, maybe he’ll learn some humility because he needs it.

pulver by ko in round 2, gracia dosnt respect lil evils left hand, big mistake.

how many times has pulver been knocked out? Pulvers chin is suspect. Leo has never been submitted or knocked out his chin is solid I dont think pulver is quick enough to sneak the left in and if so leo chin could take it. Pulver went 5 with faber but even faber is a better bulldog wrestler than a striker, faber is a poor striker so 5 w pulver proves nothing. faber hasnt fought anyone worth mentioning except tyson griffith and he lost to tyson. faber is over rated, he would get mangled in the ufc.wec has fed him bums to promote wec.. take a look at Leo’s submission ratio, its the highest in mma addittionally, garcias striking has improved. the posts on this site are not impressive. i take garcia by tko in 3rd…
by gonzo101 on Oct 29, 2008 5:18 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
I think the only reason Pulver got KO’d so much was he was always looking for the big left to connect. He seems to have rounded out his game a little more since the Joe Lauzon fight. Maybe I am wrong, but Leonard Garcia is not exactly the KO king, as a matter of fact all but 2 of his wins come from submission and his 2 kos were not fighters of real importance. With that in mind in 32 fights, including 4 of them with submission machines (Faber, Uno, and Penn-2 times) he has only been submitted 3 times(although I would say he is the only fighter that I have ever seen submit to a toe hold-LOL). Pulver has a solid wrestling game and should be able to stay out of harms way on the ground. Leonards only chance at a win I think is decision. I like Pulver in the late 2nd or early 3 by TKO/KO…

i think the fight with huarta made garcia’s head a little big. imagine if he won… garcia might squeek out a UD but i wouldnt expect it to be a fight that he’ll finish. i think he’s making a mistake by running his mouth…. dont count out pulver yet.
by allamerican on Oct 29, 2008 8:08 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Garcia lost a decision to Cole Miller in a 3 round fight.
Pulver lost a decision to Urijah Faber in a 5 round fight.
I don’t think Pulver is going to mentally break down against Garcia at all, I think it will be a war however and will go to decision.
But I see Pulver winning the decision 30-27.

Think someone should think about giving Garcia a drug test…cause he is definitely smoking something!!!

If Leonard Garcia can’t knock out Roger Huerta, he’s not going to knock out Jens Pulver. Last time I checked, Jens has the edge in everything but submission in this one. Jens by ref stoppage in the 3rd.
by Eric on Oct 29, 2008 8:46 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
my only complaint with that comment is that when Garcia fought Huerta he was very clearly outsized. He should have never been in the octagon in the UFC. He was too small. But he is a big 145 with devastating power. I don’t know who is gonna win this… and neither do any of you bastards…. but I guarantee this fight will be one of the best of 2008.

i think this is the best fight on the card..leo’s jits is sick! he really hasnt had to use it except for the huerta fight..both of em will come to bang it will be good for the wec.. still take leo in the 3rd by tko ..

garcias last fight in the wec was a sweet ko tho. ill give him that. the roger fight was a great fight. i didnt see the cole miller but ive allways liked cole miller. but junes on the other hand is a vet to the game. whats jen coming off 3 loses he is going to come for a war.

Jens is a legend of the sport and also comes across like an honestly spoken top bloke. He has earn respect from true MMA fans. His opponent is for sure formiddable, but i hope Jens gets it and i believe he will – in his own words he is “the bat and not the ball”
