I rarely use the term “real fighter” but I can’t help after listening to his interview and say; Miguel Torres is a “real fighter”

miguel torres is a bad-ass!!!! no doubt about that.
i truly believe he should put on more pounds and sign up with the UFC lightweight class. he’ll definitely be a huge threat to the 155lb fighters. it be freakin’ awesome!!!!

I agree, but I’d like to see him add a couple pounds and fight Faber 1st.

now we’re talkin’!!! moving up classes to fight with faber would be one of those blockbuster fights in MMA. not to mention, i think it’ll be even cooler to see miguel torres go up against kenny florian. holy crap! now that’s excitement!! both ken-flo and torres are great with muay thai and jiu-jitsu. then again, it’s just a thought…. for now.

I would still really like to see Miguel face of with Kid Yammamotto and Urijah!
Miguel is a freaking Bad ass for sure. i like watching him stand n Bang, but once the fight hits the floor its truly a thing of beauty. My esteemed (blog) colleague Violentmike put me on to Miguel a while back and since then he has been one of my favorite fighters to watch!

I know the Diaz briothers are fan favorites on this site so here is the latest on the brothers.
clay Guida is HURT, so the match up between Guida vs. Nate Diaz for the tUF FInale in December is OFF! it has been said trhat now, Nate probably wont fight again until early 2009. UFC 94 was mentioned as a possability.
Ceaser Gracie, stated that Nick Diaz’s nect fight will be either on New Years eve for the DREAM/k-1 dynamite show or Jan. 4th at Sengoku 4

With the Fertittas’ backing, WEC could easily afford to bring Yamamoto or any other Japanese fighter here for a shot at Torres. That would a PPV-worthy event on free TV.

He needs to stay where he is at. MMA as a sport needs guys like Miguel to bring exposure to the lighter weight classes. Pulver did it for the lightweights and Faber has started the ball rolling for the featherweight class. Now it is Miguel’s turn to bring the exposure to the bantamweight class.
I admit that I am a new fan of Miguel. I hadn’t even heard of him until he destroyed Chase Beebe to capture the title. After seeing as much video as possible of his past fights, I honestly believe this guy is top three pound for pound in the world.
I would love to see him fight Faber one day whether it be at 145 or 135, but a move up to 155 may be too much. As great of fighter a Torres is, he has a relatively small frame. Packing on 20lb would most likely take away his speed, accuracy and seemingly endless cardio.
Miguel is a bad ass. I give full credit to him (even though he had his first fight in the promotion just over a year ago), Faber and Condit for making the WEC what it is today. I am glad that the promotion is going to concentrate on the lighter weight classes in 2009. MMA needs to grow and not just in the LHW division. The best way for it to grow is more weight classes and more fighters.

i hate the #4# bull sh*t but he’s amongst the best in the world #4#.

Bro I know him and #4 is an understatement. He is 45-1. Find me another record like that.
by What? on Oct 29, 2008 8:50 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I don’t think he was ranking him #4, he used the # symbol in place of the word pound: #4#=pound for pound

He is a well spoken guy. He seems to have a good head on his shoulders. I hope that weight class does grow and get better and better fighters. I agree that it is one of the most exciting weight classes to watch. Does anyone know if Zuffa has ever thought of doing a Ultimate Fighter show with a WEC lower weight class. Although, not enough people are familiar with WEC, I’m sure it would make great TV.

Seriously, they need to have a TUF kind of show for WEC, it would be awesome seeing Urijah and Miguel as coaches.

i hope that these smaller guyz do get the chance to me more recongized by the casual fan like the heavier guys… growing up as a small guy i know what its like to fight for respect and always having to prove yourself to others just cuz your smaller than they are… so props to him and everyone in the WEC they need more recongnition!!

The problem is, people like watching fighters who LOOK intimidating. Fighters like Torres and Faber don’t look the part. I’m sure they would be able to take down a lot of 6’3, 250 pound dudes in real life but the casual fan needs a Chuck or a Lesnar to feel like they are watching a real fight.
I’m with you though. The smaller guys deserve more recognition.

AS much as I think a great fight to see him fight Faber, Faber is huge at 145, I wonder how the weight would effect the outcome of that fight. Faber’s wrestling is hude and I think that with the solid weight advantage may give Faber the advantage although, I see Torres as the more natural and comlete fighter.
So I pose a question…Do you all see the lighter weights getting completely taken over by the MExican and Latin American fighters like boxing? It seems to me more and more ligth weight fighters are coming from that region and fighting has always been popular in those areas. I think at some point jst like boxing they will own the lighter divisions while the popularity of MMA explodes. I think we are going to some insanley fast and diverse fighters in the near future from these areas….

I would like to see Urijah gain some weight and fightr Sean Sherk!
by john on Oct 29, 2008 9:42 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Faber’s one loss is to Tyson Griffin. I think he would struggle at the 155# class in the UFC. To many explosive fighters. I think Sherk would handle him as much as I hate to say it…But it would add more insanity to an already insanly stacked division…

Couldnt Zuffa pick up Carano for the WEC? Carano would bring in alot of viewers to WEC? And she was only making 20K a fight thats not bad for the popularity she has! Just a thought?

Dana’s recent interview, he praised Gina but said that right now, there aren’t enough good woman fighters to create a division, but he is open to it in the future

but that was for Gina being in the UFC…I dont know how he feels about her being in the WEC
