Shooto 'Gig Central Volume 16' results and quick recap

Shooto hosted volume 16 of its 'Gig Central' series on Sunday at the Tokai TV Telepia Hall in Nagoya, Japan.

The main event saw Yoshitaro Niimi battle Xavier Lucas for the vacant Shooto Pacific Rim Middleweight Title. Before the fight Niimi was ranked #1 by Shooto in the Pacific Rim division and Lucas was ranked #3.

Those rankings are sure to change after an impressive performance from the Australian middleweight scored him a decision win and the Shooto title.

In women's action, Mutsumi Kasai pulled off yet another submission victory after armbarring Kinuka Sasaki in the second round. This marks Kasai's third victory in a row, all of which have come by way of tap out.

Sasaki's record now stands at 2-7. Ouch! At one point she had lost six in a row. Let's hope things can change for her otherwise she may need to look for another profession.

Naohiro Mizuno earned himself a spot in the finals of the Shooto Lightweight Rookie Tournament when he bested Mitsuru Kobayshi via unanimous decision. He will now face off against undefeated rising star Issei Tamura sometime in the near future.

In the Light Heavyweight Rookie Tournament, Makoto Maeda was able to give Naoji Mikoshiba his first ever loss when he pounded him out and got the TKO win in round two.
