Dana White offers Kimbo Slice a spot on UFCs The Ultimate Fighter

kimbo slice the ultimate fighter

Props: MMAFanhouse.com

Quoteworthy:

"What has the guy done to deserve to be in the UFC? Nothing. I don't consider him a real athlete or anything. He won't win The Ultimate Fighter (TUF). The offer is out there if he wants to take it and he won't win it. I might [put a heavyweight show together just for him]."

UFC President Dana White answers a question at the UFC 90: "Silva vs. Cote" post-fight press conference about the chances of Kimbo Slice fighting inside the Octagon someday soon. Slice -- a Miami street brawler turned mixed martial artist -- is now out of a job because of the collapse of Elite XC. And while he may still be raw in terms of all around skills, Slice has huge drawing power -- people flock to their televisions or computers to watch him do his thing. Therefore, it's safe to say that if Slice does take up White on his offer that Spike TV ratings would likely go through the roof. But locking Kimbo in a house with several up-and-comers in their twenties for six weeks doesn't ever seem like it would happen. Who knows, but the offer is apparently Slice's for the taking to perhaps prove White wrong and earn a UFC contract.

HAHA! I like Kimbo but you gotta love Dana!

Kimbo, go make some $$ and fight in Japan or go to the WWE, stay away from Dana White, he’s out to make u look like a fool… if ur going to look like bad anyway, go make some cash while ur at it.

isnt he looking like a fool now?

I don’t like kimbo but it would be intresting, dana white should do it just to get people to watch the TUF what a smart idea…i don’t really watch tuf anymore but i think i would tune in every wek to see how kimbo is doin’, and a bunch of non-mma fans who just know kimbo would to.

i say GSP vs Penn
A.Silva vs Alves
Huerta vs Nate Diaz

who’s with me!!

by mikeybear on Oct 27, 2008 10:53 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

well.. his spot really wouldn’t be a sure thing.. he would have to fight his way into the house.. right? they’ll most likely give him a dud.. but Seth P.. was a dud too.. right?

by PhilQNY on Oct 27, 2008 8:12 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Would be interesting watching Dana slowly change his tune when it came to Kimbo in terms of the marketing and all that.

I like Dana but he is oh so money led and Kimbo would sell PPV’s esp if he came through the TUF ranks. Dana must be licking his lips at the prospect.

Dana wants Kimbo he’s just afraid to come out and say it!

Also on the same subject will be interesting what happens when they eventually sign Fedor? Dana will have to backtrack to warm up the media circus.

by Nick J on Oct 27, 2008 9:17 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

first off, kimbo wouldn’t sell PPV’s, because he’d be an unaired preliminary fight. Dana wouldn’t have him headline or be on the main card until he earned it. All you guys that hate dana, I can respect that, but he has a level of love and respect for the sport, Gary Shaw he is not!
I also agree, if he put together a HW TUF, he could have Bas as a coach to make kimbo comfortable, he’d still lose. I agree with an above poster, he can make money in JAPan , or the wwe will definitely be calling.
I can respect the fact that kimbo has made a million dollars fighting, and was as humble as he could be, but it’s time to go do something else. Hopefully if he does decide to keep fighting, the level in his competition rises, so people can actually take him seriously, but then agin he can’t beat any decent fighter, so he’ll be out of mma anyways!

DO IT KIMMMMBOOOOOO! Don’t be a pussy and step! Boz has given you the skills, all you have to do is put them to the test. You with a bunch of hacks trying to get a UFC contract, that sould be a no brainer for you Kimbo! Just like the streets of Miami.
Dude would go nuts with a bunch of young and dumb guys in that house drinking and popping off to the old dude! I wouldn’t miss a show if he said yes.

Boz = lol

Kimbo would be the most intersting personality to fight on TUF since, well, since Junie Browning.

The ratings for the TUF season would be sooo good, that I think that Dana should pay Kimbo to be on TUF, much more than any of the other fighters on TUF. Think about it, he has already gotten paid over a half million dollars per fight. Plus, the small investment made by the UFC would pay off in the long run.

Will be back…

Kimbo would never join TUF. He was making half a mil per fight, and you expect him to risk loosing to nobodies on a show while making Peanuts? NOT GOING TO happen! It would be interesting, but it wont happen.

Can u imagine Kimbo locked in that house for 2 months? He would loose his mind!

you mean like every other guy in the house?
he just lost to a LHW.
it’s IMO his only chance to not be a freak show in japan or a wwe fighter…but if it’s all about money, who cares, I’d do the wwe thing!!!

“i would never let this guy be part of this company” -dana white.

Dana is such garbage its incredible. 3 weeks ago he was saying he was glad he would never have to hear about kimbo again, and now hes sugar coating him like he did with fedor, and all you kids still think of dana as the world…you sheep lol. shaw uses him and hes garbage, but dana trying to do the same is now seen as…wow, what a great idea from dana! Just like a said, hes no different than shaw sadly. Just trying to use him and make money off him YET hes the 1st to always say what a disgrace kimbo has been so why put him on a show even if u think hes gonna lose and is not a fighter?? ISNT HE THE 1ST PREACHING THAT KIMBO IS BAD FOR THE SPORT?

by blah. anything can/and will happen in MMA on Oct 27, 2008 11:51 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

no, shaw put him in main events and paid him 500k
dana is allowing him to try and fight his way onto a reality show and fight for 10k.
I think there is a big difference considering that I guarantee you Dana doesn’t even think kimbo would make it onto the show. It’s an obvious slap in the face, dana knows kimbo will NEVER do this!

by kevin (most moderated guy on mmamania) on Oct 27, 2008 12:07 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

It really is easy to tell which of you have ever tasted any sport fighting experience and those of you whom are experts without ever having been punched in the mouth…but I wont point fingers. Fact is kimbo is out classed in the ufc..these jiu jitsu/ wrestler types been doing this stuff since they could walk; However, knowing this…that snake Dana White…??? I mean dana white understands that his top ufc guys are well protected ( if you doubt it ask ol chuck lidell who dana kept away from rampage as long as he could…or Matt Hughes the most protected guy in ufc history) and that on any given night… when all the marbles are up for grabs… KIMBO SLICE’s stand up could easily render him a knock out winner against ANYONE in the UFC…and then what would that say about mrs whites “elite band of fighters”…yeahh elite xc was a freak show but if you dont think Robbie Lawler and many other of those guys could do well in the ufc you are eating all the hype.

It would be good to USE kimbo to bring more attention to tuf. Just as long as he’s under the same dana control as everyone else. It’s bad enough junie gets special treatment, just imagine if dana bends on kimbo and starts treating him like a youtube superstar. Bring kimbo onto the show, bootcamp his ass and watch him quit under the pressure of REAL training.

Kimbo wouldnt make it for sure, and Dana would never pay him 500k or even 100k probably pay him like 20k a fight ROFL doubt Kimbo is gonna want to head to the UFC.

Kimbo would do wonders for the show, which is what Dana fails to acknowledge out loud regarding this dude. He’s somewhat of a star, which counterbalances his lack of ass kicking ability. MMA is about skill, but story lines are nice too. They add flavoring to what would otherwise just be two guys beating the piss out of each other. Kimbo’s got a fairly decent one. I’d spend 1-15 minutes watching if he was fighting right now. Period.

by medecine balls on Oct 27, 2008 2:55 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I think it’s the way to go, if he can even win just one fight to get on to the show, it doesn’t matter if he loses or wins after that. He’ll get another 6 weeks of pr and camera time, the guy will easily find a home fighting for strikeforce. Question is, can he get past the first fight? If they match him up with a mediocre boxer w/ no ground game, he could at least get in the house. Might be a miserable 6 weeks, being who he is and being put in that position but I wonder what some of the other fighters on the show who’ve probably scratched and clawed for a living with minimal success for 6-10 yrs think of this guy after a few shots of tequila? Could be pretty entertaining..

by O damn he got caught on Oct 27, 2008 1:24 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

On a side note, I know some great talent comes off of TUF, but really this is more the level that this guy should be fighting at anyway. These guys aren’t gonna be well known, maybe experienced but probably not tested against any big names. It’s a more even playing field IMO, he’s got a chance, probably not to win the show, but at least to have a good showing.

by O damn he got caught on Oct 27, 2008 1:27 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Boy Dana is a piece of fucking garbage, I really want to tell him and at the UFC 92 weigh ins I have nothing to lose, Im gonna give him a piece of my mind before i get kicked out. I realize Kimbo isnt great but he puts Fedor in the same category as Kimbo basically. Hes disrespectful, he says hes in it for the fights, like Cote deserves to step in the Cage with the best P4P fighter. If Silva is the best P4P fighter why is he in the same ring as Cote, so Dana thinks Cote ias incredible

Dana love him or hate him has put mma on the map and deserves all of our respect for it. You may not agree with his opinions but he has worked fuc*ing hard for the sport.

by Nick J on Oct 27, 2008 9:32 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Do you even know anything about Dana White??? The guy is not a rich punk by any means. He was a southie, aerobics instructor and a fighter. He actually had to leave Boston because he owed the mob money. He was working class most of his life and basically till about ten years ago had made most of his money by teaching aerobics and opening a few gyms. He took a company that was ailing and snowballed it into the fastest growing sport in the world, with the help of his friends. It was not his money that made the UFC, so anyhting he has now is what the the Frettita brothers feel he is worth. This former bouncer/street tough/boxer and aerobics instructor took his friends $2 million investment, and created a company that is valued now well over a billion dollars according to Time Magazine. In 2006 UFC generated more then $200 million in PPV dollars. Do you realize what this man has done? You have to be a bit of an ass and a bit arrogant to do what he has done in business. Jsut like being a fighter, you can’t second guess yourself and you must think you are the best. There is no difference. That is why the UFC is so succesful, that is why it is the number one brand of MMA is the UFC.

Jokes aside if Kimbo negotiated a deal with Dana under the table “secretly” for Tuf, where he got paid..I think thats his best route..

Lets face it 3/4s of the guys on last few seasons have been bums, so they could make it so Kimbo could make the finals easily, then win or lose that would be validation for another fight

They do get paid on TUF . . . 5K from Burger King to win and another 5K from Dana if they win by stoppage. Fergie would probably never see any of that money, but it’s there.

Even if Kimbo wanted to keep fighting for a pay check , If he doesn’t take this offer, and he loses another fight, his pay will go down Dramatically , so if I was him I would take this offer, if he won the show or made it to the finale, the Ufc would be crazy not to offer him a big signing bonus or something

by Robby on Oct 27, 2008 5:38 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

You will see Kimbo on the fighting Fedor show instead. He would stand a much better chance of winning that show and then it would lead to a big payday for Kimbo and Fedor whilst making Kimbo seem a more legit fighter.

by Anlienq on Oct 27, 2008 7:30 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Look like it or lump it Kimbo Slice is a brand name that regardless of his past lost, seems to be known by many. This idea would be fucking fantastic and make for huge ratings for The Ultimate Fighter. Love him, or hate him, think he is the real deal or a heal, regardless there is controversy, and controversy sells. The jury is still out on him and I think if Mr. White really backed up this offer, Kimbo would be foolish not to take it. Something tells me that Kimbo’s pride may get the better of him here and he will pass because its not a large amount of money up front. Not sure if it is any money up front frankly, I don’t know? Anyone? But I can see his pride getting in the way.

Look, Kimbo if you or your handlers are reading this, you say your the real deal, you will fight anyone and so on, here is the offer for you to prove it. Sure you have fought some fights in the past on the internet, and you have a few MMA bouts under your belt, so do a boat load of other fighters who get their foot in the UFC door from going on a season of The Ultimate Fighter. I think if you want to stay in this game, you have everything in the world to gain from this opportunity, and really nothing to loose. Further after that last match I’m sure your dying to prove it to all of us, including Mr. White. Further I am sure that if you do all the things you say you can do, and run thought the competition on a season of The Ultimate Fighter, that not only will you have proven yourself to the world yet again, but you will also have one very lucrative, crediadable MMA contract and not to mention the respect of Mr. White and all of UFC. I say if this is a legit offer, go for it! Prove to the MMA world what you have been wanting to for oh so long!

Seeing that Kimbo is such a bum and a joke…Dana sure spends ALOT of time thinking and talking about him…kinda like in grade school when you liked a girl and you pulled her hair and called her names.

He is asked about Kimbo all the time, its not like Dana sits around and thinks all day about his big bushy beard!

Dana White just needs to leave Kimbo alone.

I dont think Kimbo would make it 6 weeks in a house without smoking crack.

Kimbo would never work on a TUF show. he is an old man that would be asked to move into a frat house. But that is not to say that there is DEFINITELY a place for Kimbo on some fighting Reality show. The Tuf does need a face lift, it is getting same old, and the ratings show that. It’s a sad day when the dumb asses on the show acting retarded is what drives up the ratings. They need to scratch the house and come up with a new concept for a tournament style show where fighters can have real camps (meaning time wise) to prepare for a fight and opponent. Many of these fights suck cause these guys don’t have camps where they fight when they peak(mentally and physically) and just being in good shape is not the same thing.

After hearing that the ratings are at the lowest for TUF as they’ve ever been, it would be a good ratings grabber.

I love the Ultimate Fighter, and have seen every single episode except for Season 1. Anywase, I’m not a fan of Kimbo Slice, and think he gives MMA a bad name right now. Even though, I think that it would be a good idea, and I’ll even watch that.

Kimbo is still set for the rest of his career. He can easily make over 250k a year doing what he loves, unlike the majority of UFC veterans.

dana should offer him a decent contract based on what fans, if any, he will bring to the UFC after his loss to seth. have him fight his way up the ladder. he is obvioulsy a beginner that will either sink or swim. whether he wins or loses, the ufc wins.
