UFC Quick Quote: Boo, Josh Koscheck, BOO!

koscheck

"I honestly don’t really care if the fans boo me. This is a business, and if I cared what everybody else was thinking, it would take away from my goals. And my goal is to become the UFC welterweight champion. I’m not going to let a bunch of booing people decide that. I’m going to decide that myself..... For me, it’s a matter of getting that PR and getting my name out there and outsmarting everybody. I can tell you this, they can keep booing, and that’s fine. But when they meet me and get to know who I am, they’re going to fall in love and jump to the other side. I can guarantee you that.... My last two fights [both wins] have been pretty good, and guess what, I got booed both times. One was a knockout and one was one of the bloodiest fights in UFC history. Let’s hope I can change all of their perceptions of me tomorrow night."

-- Josh Koscheck wants fans to have a reaction, whether it is for or against him. He said as much in the "UFC Countdown" special and then again in this interview with the Chicago Sun-Times. If the UFC 90: "Silva vs. Cote" weigh-in is any indication than consider it mission accomplished -- the boo birds were out in force at the Chicago Theatre. It's interesting that despite his most recent performances, including going three solid rounds with Georges St. Pierre, kicking Dustin Hazelett's head off and slaughtering Chris Lytle, as well as stepping up on less than two weeks notice to fight a very dangerous Thiago Alves, that more fans are not coming around sooner. Silly. Keep on trucking, Kos.

I’ve always liked Koscheck, and I really don’t understand where all the hatred came from.

by J on Oct 25, 2008 1:53 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I really don’t think people hate him, its more of a mob mantality. The crowd will turn when he beat someone they dislike more.

Right here, and Koscheck is the man, I have never disliked him, I like him ever since I first saw him on Tuff, Hopefully he beats Thiago, and then gets another chance for the title. WAR KOSCHECK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

FOREVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Did you really wri mantality?

by FightinRoundtheWorld on Oct 25, 2008 4:37 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Haha I fucked up when making fun of your mispelling.

by FightinRoundtheWorld on Oct 25, 2008 4:38 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

the hate comes from the fact that he’s a douche bag.
after the countdown show, I respected him more, but still don’t like him. I can see where he may be a likable guy to those he knows, but to most of us, he comes off like a dick!

by kevin (most moderated guy on mmamania) on Oct 25, 2008 2:58 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

doesnt help that he has a mop on his head

by brendan on Oct 25, 2008 3:51 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Couldn’t agree with you more. Only thing with the fight with Thiago is they are both heavy on the doucheness. He is a good fighter but his fights are usually boring in my opinion.

by FightinRoundtheWorld on Oct 25, 2008 4:41 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

whats your beef with Tiago? I think he is a stand up dude, and a Muy Tai WRECKING MACHINE like Dana said.

Kos just comes off like a prick, typical High school jock!
I still find a lot of top wrestlers Boring! Personally, I will probably never like Kos and I will always look forward to seeing him get knocked out!

I will be so pissed if Alves looses

Hey john, I want to start betting online but have never trusted putting my info out there. I know you bet with betus, what do you think of that site. And what advice can you give me to start?

by JV on Oct 25, 2008 7:37 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

My beef with Thiago is the weight thing. It’s your job; make weight and don’t cheat trying to.

by JB on Oct 25, 2008 7:42 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

He just made weight! He did his JOB, so what the F do you got to bitch about NOw? THe kid is respectful and he is Ultra exciting! F off, Nitpicker!

Alves was very young when he started fighting in the UFC and his body was not yet develpoed. Since his debut we have witnessed Alves “the Kid” grow to a man, and Naturally his body will have changed also. He has been growing before our eyes, gaining that “grown man” strength, so it probably took him a while to calculate the weight cut in his new found growing body!

Hate all you want, but all you are doing is hating on a very exciting and respectful classy kid, who is going to tyerrorize the welterweight division for at least another 12 years.

You can hate if you want, I would rather cheer and enjoy his Super Exciting fights! If you want to become a fan of Tiago Alves, watch the fight video on his classic match up with Chris Lytle, then try telling me the kid isnt amazing to watch!

JV: BetUs is your best bet! I have found that site to be awesome. Its efficient, and they do good business. I too didnt like offering my personal info to sites but I have found BetUS to be safe and professional.

My best advice to a new online mma better would be:

Start small! Deposite a small amount in the account (enough to get the sites free bonus money). For your 1st couple of events, bet small amounts and only on a couple of fights that you are sure of (no more than 3 fights). Build your account slowly, dont be in a rush. YOU are a fan of mma and that wont change so you will have plentty of fights to bet on in the Future do not rush! I would also initailly stay away from betting on the big favorites (risk loosing too much) until you pad your betting account with the HOuse’s money!

Do not rush and do not feel like you have to win a lot of money right away. The important thing for the 1st 6 months is to NOT loose ANY money on any event! Just keep winning money (small amounts)…Trust me it adds up! After 6 months of winning small, your account will start looking good. Once oyu have built up your account with the HOUSE’s MNoney, then you can start takingg more risks. You can then start taking risks on underdogs that you feel can pull an upset, and you can start betting the high-odd-favorites because if they are upset it wont crush your account.

I only deposited money into my account one time, to start the account, after that I have been betting with the houses’s money for about 2 years now!

I tell you with certainty BetUS is a good and safe site. The only beef I have with BetUS is a lot of the odds are not made available till the day of the fight. only the odds on the big fights on each card are made available in advance!

Cool, I appreciate the info! Betus was the way I wanted to go but wanted abit of insight. I wanted to start on this event but its too late cause im about to leave. Im gona DVR the fights cause Im gona go party. Again thanks for the info!

There’s only one chase Negation, no one likes Koscheck more then me on this site.

Kos is a punk. He and his buddy Bobby Southworth ought to drive off a bridge.

Kos is a grand fighter and fine fella.

by Dana Blanco on Oct 25, 2008 2:04 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I like Koscheck! Rooting for him tonight.

by Scott on Oct 25, 2008 2:06 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Yeah me to. My mindset is if Fitch can beat Alves, KOS can. I personally put KOS above Fitch, judging by common opponents, GSP, Diego. Kos just seemed to do better against both.

by The Anomaly on Oct 25, 2008 7:07 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Kos is a douch and always will be a douche!! Glad he lost last night and ate a good knee on the jaw. I was very disappointed that Kos didn’t bleed. Wanted him to shed lots of blood.

He mentioned in the Countdown show that he had a tough childhood because of his mixed race background. He’s such a d-i-ck to realize that people hated him because he’s an obnoxious a-hole, and he’s using the race card as an excuse. Why can’t he just F-off already.

by cbchwa on Oct 26, 2008 8:53 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I do not think he wants to be boed, but he has to make out like it does not bother him.
I think the hate comes from his time in the Ultimate Fighter, where he was pretty much just a wrestler. I didn’t like his attitude towards Sanchez when he beat him, going on about ending Sanchez’s unbeaten record in his post fight interview.
I also hate his stupid hair don’t.
I have never liked him from the first moment I seen him.
H acts like a jock strap and continues to be one in my eyes.
People, grant the man his wishes and keep on booing, since he wants it so much.

by bazza76 on Oct 25, 2008 2:13 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Sanchez is a friggen idiot though, and talked hella shit prior to the fight.
I normally prefer people be a bit humbler post fight.

I hate Sanchez from how he acted in that TUF, so I can see why someone else could hate Kos for the same reason.

by ShaiZ on Oct 25, 2008 2:46 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I also hate the way he puffs out his chest like an idiot.

by bazza76 on Oct 25, 2008 2:14 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

those boos gotta hurt a little bit. kos has always been a bit of an antagonist, so he does kinda bring it on himself. i do actually like him better than this idiot to the right, $hit cope. :)

by b.w. on Oct 25, 2008 2:19 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I respect the fact that he is committed to making mma interesting. Can not hate on someone for that.

Koscheck by DESTRUCTION !!

by Jack Mehoff on Oct 25, 2008 3:01 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Koscheck is awesome, why do people boo him? Is it because of his fight with Diego (didn’t see it, heard it was boring… it was also ages ago). He’s been great to watch, even in his loss to GSP.

by GoKos on Oct 25, 2008 3:04 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

i NEVER root for Kos… but for the first time, I’m finding myself hoping he opens up a can of whoopass tonight! props to him for taking this fight on short notice! and even more respect to him if he gets the job done!

Koscheck by ANNIHILATION !!

by J on Oct 25, 2008 3:48 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Koscheck’s never bothered me the way he does some people. Thiago Alves on the other hand, comes across as a cocky son of a bitch.

P.S. Cote is gonna get murdered.

Koscheck by DRYHUMPAGE!!!

by Brandon on Oct 25, 2008 4:41 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I haven’t liked him since he said this “[Matt Hughes] has no speed or athletic ability because he’s white.”

Though he says he can’t be racist since he himself is half white which isn’t true. Anyone can be racist, even against your own people.

Dang, I def loose respect for him for that. It’s hard to tell withouth the context it was said in, how serious he was. But still. Not cool.

ok wow i never heard that before, the best line is
“Im a educated human being who happens to be a ultimate fighter”, dude if you’re trying to sound educated don’t use a if it’s supposed to be an (he did it twice)

by Syd[a.k.a. "The Negation"] on Oct 25, 2008 7:42 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

His personality seems a bit brash… could he be? Who knows.
Hell of a guy for stepping up and fighting one of the most skilled fighters in the division on such short notice.. and still wanting to fight again in what? 5 weeks?

Thats the kinda balls that sports overall – let alone this one, needs more of.

by Luppers on Oct 25, 2008 6:03 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I don’t understand how Alves is the underdog in this fight. You’d think Kos would be, considering he took it on short notice and has less experience than Alves.

by J on Oct 25, 2008 6:08 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

while we’re pointing out spelling mistakes…for months now John has been spelling lose (as in lose a fight) as loose (as in shoelaces). It has been forever dude…stop that! Anyway, I am the first person to hate Kos. He is totally douchy. Someone above said it best, he is a typical high school jock. I give a world of respect for stepping in as a professional fighter on such short notice. Props to him for training year round to fight at anytime. At the same time, I hope he gets crushed, soon(note the time of the post). Thiago is a total Juice and Douche Bag John. Man muscle. Sounds like you have a crush to me.

by raetsinner on Oct 25, 2008 10:09 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Kos is a total douche. He’s the type that gets beat up for being a douche but will never learn and will always be a douche t-bag!!
