Man, I’d love for Randy to win this not just because I’m a big fan of his, but because no matter how you slice it Lesnar just doesn’t deserve a shot, yet. I think Lesnar will be the champ some day and will own the HW division for a long time, but he simply hasn’t paid his dues! Anyway, I have no idea how to call this one; age and a ton of experience vs. youth and incredible strength.

i’m a lesnar fan but i totally agree he doesn’t deserve a shot yet. The only way i can justify it besides the fact this is the big money fight is that there’s no way he would have got a title shot with a win coleman(at least i hope there wasn’t) but he got injured so he fought hering, hering imo was 1 win away from a title shot after beating congo so if u beat the no1 contender that should make you the no1 contender that said he still hasn’t won enough fights to deserve a shot but i’m still really looking forward to this fight. i’m finding it hard to pick a winner aswell, when it was first anounced i said brock would destroy randy but i just can’t count him out now and i do think randy will have the edge on the feet, not in power but in hand speed, i still don’t think lesnar has fast hands, he’s got huge power but the few punches that he has thrown haven’t looked that quick. I’m still leaning towards lesnar at the moment

That’s hard to say, regarding Lesnar’s hand speed. He’s thrown two punches in stand-up in his two fights in UFC. One put Mir flat on his back, and the other caved in Herring’s face.

by PW on Oct 25, 2008 10:52 AM EDT up reply actions

Not saying Brock deserves a title shot, but Mir doesnt either!

This whole Heavyweight tournament is B.s!

Immediately Couture vs. Nogiera should have been booked and they should have just let Werdum vs. Mir duke it out for Ground supremacy!

They should just have let Brock Pound out Kongo next!

I have a feeling that Randy’s old age/lay off will finally catch up to him. I wont be surprised if Brock BLOWS through him!

Hopefully Couture comes out on top. Then he has to face a legit heavyweight in Big Nog. As far as calling the fight, watch his herring fight again and look for Brock’s defensive wrestling and especially his positioning against the cage when pinned for whatever short amount of time. Lesnar is still green so as a wrestler he will strongly rely on heavy top control and won’t be comfortable being on his back. That’s where Couture will make the fight happen and “break” him. No need for later rounds.

Again it’s not about who deserves a shot, it’s about what fight will make the most money and this is the one.

true, but it’s still a very interesting match-up. i cant wait to see it.

the real title fight comes when the winner of this faces Nogueira..

Rob, I agree. Nog deserved the Title Fight against Randy in the first place. He “begged” Randy to come back from “AWOL” and fight him to no avail. Then, he thought he was fighting Frank Mir for the HW Title and Randy comes back. Randy vs. Brock might bring in more $$$ for Zuffa/UFC, but not THE fight I wanted to see first. Oh well, it is what it is, but I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall when they told Nog and Frank that they would not be fighting for the HW Title at the end of the TUF Season… That’s just WRONG . . .

by TheProfessor on Oct 25, 2008 11:24 AM EDT up reply actions

Good point Professor! As far as Mir goes, the more I see of him on TUF the less I like him. It could just be the editing, but he seems to have a really obnoxious high school jock mentality as opposed to that of a professional fighter as opposed to Nog. Regardless, if there was justice in this world it would be Nog and Randy in Nov.

I am liking the discussion on this section of the comments. I’ve always truly believed that Handy has been ducking Nog for the better part this decade. No where to run now. Nog has said it many times, even in his interview yesterday – “This confrontation will happen.”

you mean Mir, right?

by Anthony on Oct 25, 2008 1:34 PM EDT up reply actions

I think Brock will end up champ one day as well and I dislike the idea. As a true fan of MMA, I like to see how technique plays out when you have two athletes that are close to the same size and strength. With Brock, it will always be a mauling. So what does a young guy coming into MMA glean from watching the possible future champ?…..“I should become a genetic freak to improve my game?” I don’t know. It’s interesting now to see if technique can stop this guy. If it can’t, my interest will wear thin quickly. He’s an anomaly. If only there was enough talented big guys, maybe the HW division could be busted up to avoid mismatches. For now I’ll just hope that acts like less of a dousche over time.

nah, nogueira, werdum, gonzaga, mir… those guys are always going to pose problems for him if he just relies on his strength and wrestling

by brendan on Oct 25, 2008 8:14 PM EDT up reply actions

The outcome I wanna see is Mir Vs Couture.

Just a fight I’ve always wanted to see.

by Jon on Oct 25, 2008 10:47 AM EDT reply actions

You will get to see it. It will be the third place fight while Lesnar and Nog fight for the title.

by PW on Oct 25, 2008 10:51 AM EDT up reply actions

I think you’re going to be surprised, my friend!

by Jon on Oct 25, 2008 11:20 AM EDT up reply actions

If it’s not Lesnar and Nog, then you’re right, I will be surprised.

by PW on Oct 25, 2008 11:28 AM EDT up reply actions

it’s going to be Lesnar/Mir II. Mark that down right now!

by Anthony on Oct 25, 2008 1:35 PM EDT up reply actions

Randy is always a classy ugy. I’d have to put him above tito as far as business man goes. Tito is on celeb apprentice, Randy is opening gyms that gears towards a team mentality, with guys that aren’t trying to take a percentage of your purse. You got to like and respect that! What has tito done for the sport other than show guys if you bitch about pay (when you’re one of the top paid guys), you’ll be out of work for a long time. Or that if you’re a douche who complains about everything, you can land a girl that could give birth to an elephant!

I want Randy to win cus i think hes great and i wanna c him fight big nog n den after dat mayb fedor but i just cant c him beating lesnar, i mean brocks a better wrestler and he hits vry hard i think he’ll probably knock Randy out although i hope i am wrong.

by Joe on Oct 25, 2008 11:20 AM EDT reply actions

For the sake of MMA I pray Randy wins. Lesnar is a prick.

by natedogg77 on Oct 25, 2008 11:40 AM EDT reply actions

I agree, I’m really pulling for Randy in this one. It’s a bad style matchup for him though, and he looks to have lost mass during the long layoff. maybe only I think this… no one seems too worried about it but he seems a bit more skinny in the shoulders and chest than he did during the gonzaga fight.
