FEG announces New Year's Eve supershow featuring DREAM and K-1 combatants

For fans of Japanese MMA, 2008 is going out with a bang.
Fighting & Entertainment Group (FEG) President Sadaharu Tanigawa has confirmed the scheduling of a New Year's Eve supershow featuring participants from DREAM, K-1, K-1 MAX and K-1 Koshien.
FieLDS Dynamite!! will take place on December 31, 2008 at the Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan, and could feature as many as 20 fights.
Fighters scheduled to compete are Joachim Hansen, Hayato "Mach" Sakurai, Kazushi Sakuraba, Shinya Aoki, Tatsuya Kawajiri, Mitsuhiro Ishida, Masakazu Imanari, Takeshi Yamazaki, Atsushi Yamamoto, Kuniyoshi Hironaka, Minowaman, Kiyoshi Tamura, Seichi Ikemoto, Yuichi Nakanishi, Yasuhiro Kido and Yoshihiro Sato.
Also expected to participate are Norifumi "KID" Yamamoto, Caol Uno, Hideo Tokoro, Masakatsu Funaki, Katsuyori Shibata, Junichi Sawayashiki, Taishin Kohiruimaki, Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic, Gegard Mousasi and Hong Man Choi.
While it's hard not to be excited about the endless match-making possibilities for this event, one name noticeably missing from the list of superstars is the 12-1 Judo sensation Yoshihiro Akiyama.
Akiyama, one of Japan's biggest stars (and heels) is no longer under contract to FEG and is reportedly negotiating with both Sengoku and the UFC.
Therefore, at the very least, an appearance for DREAM on December 31 is unlikely as the two sides are currently not on the best of terms.
Still, with so much talent in one night, nothing short of Godzilla himself could diminish the anticipation for this event. My only hope is that FEG can make arrangements to televise the fights on pay-per-view (PPV) and not some cable channel that nobody can seem to access.
Who knows, maybe they can even pencil in some of the recently unemployed Elite XC fighters who are looking for a home. And does anybody want to lay odds on another meaningless cameo from Fedor Emelianenko?
Stay tuned as this massive event continues to take shape.

Now that Elite has collapsed, Alvarez can fight Hansen for the title. Diaz-Sakurai might also happen. Aoki-Ishida would be sick as well. The only thing left to say is Noons via bankruptcy. That guy get a way out of his contract, and who knows maybe now he can try to comeback to MMA at DREAM.

This is gonna be a great event. Also when did Akiyama face Aoki? We are talking about Yoshihiro Akiyama, the middleweight, Aoki is a Lightweight. Anyway i’d be glad to see Akiyama in UFC.

I believe that the UFC will sign Akiyama. He is a legit top middleweight and the UFC has plans on expanding to south Korea, signing Akiyama will help accomplish that!

I’d bet money on Akiyama going to WVR.

My mistake I meant to write Misaki. My apologizes since the fight with Misaki he has taken on two cans and has no desire to fight top competition. He is good fighter and I like to see him compete against good fighters.

This is seriously awesome news. I agree that they need to put this on a PPV that the US can view. I’d pay to watch half of those names fight on the same card.

The same reason Akiyama isn’t there is prolly the same reason Mousasi isn’t there: no opponent yet. If something didn’t go through with Yoshida DREAM could possibly be anticipating a Mousasi/Akiyama title shot. Btw I think Hansen will be fighting Aoki..rubber match for the title. Or Alvarez since EliteXC just collapsed..

I wonder if the UFC will indeed sign Akiyama, though I’m sure they wouldn’t allow him to wear a gi in the cage. Akiyama is a great fighter, but I’d first like to see a rematch against Misaki or Sakuraba.

F PPV. Free on HDnet is the way to go.
Everyone that doesn’t have HDnet, listen up.
The channel IS available in your area (USA). Not all cable companies carry HDnet. I’m not sure about DirectTV, but I know for a fact that Dish Network and ATT uverse gets HDnet.
If you are anysort of MMA fan, it is COMPLETELY worth changing providers to get this channel. I have switched a coulple times due to this reason. (Comcast cable had it, then dropped it). IF you switch to ATT uverse, you will be paying less money than you are now, and you’ll have HDnet where you get TONS of MMA action – for FREE.
WHy pay $40 a month for a DREAM or someother promotions PPV when you can watch it on HDnet. All you need is the High Def package which costs $10 per month. Do the math. It is worth switching providers. I reccomend ATT uverse if you can get it.
It is a no brainer. Pick up the telephone and make it happen!

How about Kimbo vs. Hong Man Choi…now that is the freakshow route.

Hopefully it’s on PPV?
What kind of silly commentary was that… HDnet isn’t hard to get, and the HD production on HD is better then any production this show will get on PPV.

You’re kidding, right? You considered the choppy, watered down presentation of DREAM 6 on HDnet to be good production?
by Jesse Holland on Oct 21, 2008 4:37 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Well, that wasn’t my presentation. I got crystal clear HD in my home from HD net. Pvr’ed it so I could cut out the Japanese bullcrap.
