Brandon Vera post-fight UFC 89 video interview

We didn't hear a peep from Brandon Vera after his split-decision loss to Keith Jardine at UFC 89: "Bisping vs. Leben" this weekend, but this post-fight video recently popped up on the promotion's Web site.

"The Truth" appears visibly out of sorts and doesn't offer up much regarding the reasons behind his performance -- his third loss in four fights. Perhaps most important there are no excuses:

He’s really turned into a boring fighter….I was looking forward to him KO-ing Jardine. What a snooze fest.

100% boring. He did have many chances to redeem himself. How many more? Personally I don’t care about vera.

He got caught in his own ego hype and people around him telling him how good he is. He got cocky with the UFC and demanded tons of money and now, here he is… a boring fighter.

At least there were no excuses, just a split decision loss to Jardine. I remember someone else losing like that to Jardine, then going on to win one of the biggest fights of his career. I still like Vera so I guess I will give him 1 more chance to at least put on a war, win or lose.

it’s incredible, you can see in his eyes he is relieved and he is quite happy that he went to basically a draw with keith jardine, he obviously thinks he is a B level fighter..

that was terrible, he should be very upset with himself.

That was absolutely pathetic. I don’t care to see either one of those guys fight again. Vera has no fire whatsoever. He has turned into a complete joke. Nice guy, but joke nonetheless.

I think that’s pretty gracious of you BNF, there’s a small chance he can turn that corner.. he’s a young 31… my guess is he won’t get meaner, he’s a nice athletic guy that has the ability to be a awesome MMA fighter but he doesn’t like getting hit and when the going gets tough he can’t/won’t kick it up a notch it’s not in his DNA. When there’s a tough decision in his fight/flight syndrome, he becomes aware of his action and loses focus… he chooses more flight than fight.

He never used to though. Mir tagged him and he got pissed and drove a staight right down the pipe and then jacked him 6 inches off the ground with a knee to the face.

Brandon Vera vs. Houston Alexander, Loser leaves town…

by AndyKatz on Oct 21, 2008 10:54 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

good call. with vera showing that he does not want to hurt his oppenants, alexander may actually murder him.

by bradpittfightclub on Oct 21, 2008 11:35 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Houston should have left town 2 fights ago, jeez… some guys just wont go away.

by PencilPusher on Oct 21, 2008 12:07 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

ding ding ding – Houston is bottom of the barrell – he’s the Kimbo of the UFC (albeit with some actual skill) -

Vera has some serious skill and talent, just not sure why he’s so hesistent, he held his own against Tim Sylvia for 3 rounds – he shouldve handled jardine alot easier

He needs to fight a couple B-level fighters maybe

by jerrolds on Oct 21, 2008 2:38 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Houston would DESTROY Kimbo, I’d like to see it!

I never liked nor dis-liked Vera, but for a guy who just lost a split decision his attude was great, no disrespect to Jardine no excuses….I hope he comes into his next fight ready to go with the attude finish or be finished and I bet he will be alot more exciting!

by jet99 on Oct 21, 2008 10:59 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

i really used to like vera before, when he was new to the ufc. now he’s just way to nervous to lose so he takes no chances. if he can get back in the right state of mind and be exciting again, he’ll be a fan favorite again. i was really hoping that he would beat jardine and get some confidence again but nope. i say he fights sokoudju, alexander, or maybe sakara next. someone should be leavin town soon…

by allamerican on Oct 21, 2008 12:28 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

my mistake…sakaras at middleweight now!

igot the Feeling that Chuck VS. Soukodjou is coming up………

by mad_drummer on Oct 21, 2008 12:57 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

if thats the case, id say chuck wins that one. i just think soko is too unexperienced right now to beat someone of chucks caliber. i think soko will be a great fighter with a few more years of training. although you never know, chuck is at the tail end of his career…

by allamerican on Oct 21, 2008 1:23 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Vera was all hype, personally I just dont think he is that good.

by Spyder on Oct 21, 2008 2:56 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I haven’t heard anyone say anything about Vera fighting lesser competition on his “hot streak” before his year off from his manager dispute. He was cocky and confident because he was a fresh, young guy who was walking over lesser competition. He came back to fight a game (albeit boring) Silvia and has looked poor against all of the better competition in the HW division (with the exception of newcomer Andy Reese, who held his own and went all 3 rounds).

Lets face it…Vera is a top level B-fighter in todays UFC HW division, and nothing more.

by Eric on Oct 21, 2008 4:07 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

AGREED!!!

by Spyder on Oct 21, 2008 4:43 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Assuario Silva and Mir are NOT lesser competition than Andy. Silva has lost close decisions to Congo, Fedor’s brother and Tim Syvia. Vera was the only one to finish him in the last 8 years and he beat Eilers a lot faster than AA. You would have to be blind to not see there was talent there. Where it went, who knows. I just hope it comes back.

by Gord on Oct 22, 2008 12:19 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Very sounds like a standup dude, man. Disappointed that he lost, but says simply, “It was a good fight.” Says he definitely feels better. Bet Dana was happy with his performance, or at least happier than he has been recently. Much better to have an exciting loss than a boring win. Vera will be back.

by MMACrossfire on Oct 21, 2008 6:10 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

he felt better because.he cannot stand pressure.and after the fight the pressure was out..so he can relax..he chokes!!! he was a bad investment for UFC hahahaha. Dana wants to fire his ass so badly..but his thinking of the money he’ll make by bringing brandon to the philippines…crap! im from the philippines and i say bring in wanderlei or chuck or minatouro or randy or gsp instead of vera

by ree on Oct 21, 2008 8:27 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Vera’s never gonna be a champ, but he’s still got the skills to put on great fights if faced against guys that move forward, let Brandon try to make his way up this ladder (from weakest to toughest fight):

Houston Alexander
Marvin Eastman (inter-changeable w/ Houston)
Sokodjou
Thiago Silva

by Pat on Oct 21, 2008 8:31 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

everybody is vera and jardine hatin’. i liked that fight and thought both fighters brought it; back to back flash knockdowns. im looking forward to seeing them both fight again.
