I not long got back from the NIA here in Birmingham and apart from some excellent fights the highlight of my night was meeting Dana White. He was cool as hell and he called my son over (who is 11) and said “hey little guy, how you doing?”, “I’m so pleased to meet you, you’re a cool kid here at the UFC aren’t ya? Its a real pleasure to meet you!”
My son was choked, and didn’t know what to say. It was a real cool moment I will always remember.
I promised myself I’d Big Up Dana for that so…..BIG UP!
by Ca$z on Oct 18, 2008 8:51 PM EDT up reply actions
Yea Dana is cool, when i attended UFC 70 he signed autographs and spoke to the fans for like 2 and a half hours, throughout all the prelims and the first few fights of the main card haha. Everyone else who spoke to the fans like Bisping & Kongo only did it for 10 mins.
Does Dana still have that old ass security guard? lol guys got to be into his late 50’s at least.
by Macho Bullshit on Oct 18, 2008 9:50 PM EDT up reply actions
Yeah he was there. He was chilled though not like too many security Ive met before.
To be honest I was thinking this cant be Dana’s security but looks can be decieving I guess!

Vera out of the UFC? how on earth did he let himself go to a split decision? he shoulda gone for broke in round three realizing what was at stake… i bet he gassed second round and let jardine run away with it

They respected each other WAAAAYY too much in that fight. Neither wanted to take ANY risks and this really surprised me considering they both had a lot to prove.

Yes. I had it as possible fight of the night but it was definately the worst that I can remember.

I met Leben back when he trained at Team Quest (Portland, OR) with his brother, not only that, I’m an American, so I pick Chris Leben KO. Also, I believe Bisping is one of the most protected over-rated fighters in the UFC, Matt Hammill beat him, and his first 185 fight was a joke. This fight will prove or disprove Bisping’s hype.
by w153r on Oct 18, 2008 12:49 PM EDT reply actions
At least Bisping didnt lose to Kalib Starnes like your boy Leben did.
by the_mexicutioner on Oct 18, 2008 12:57 PM EDT up reply actions
I think about that as well when considering this match. Looking back, how in the hell did Leben lose to Starnes (by decision!) and to MacDonald? I think he is/was better than both of those guys. When you think about those losses, you got to go with Bisping. Leben said he was trying to evolve and change his game during those fights, but still, if its the 3rd round, and your “new” style isn’t working, go for facking broke man.
by sinister on Oct 18, 2008 2:24 PM EDT up reply actions
Prove or disprove?
Behave, if Biping wins tonight everybody who cant get over the hamil decision will still hate him and you will say the next fighter he gets is going to KTFO Bisping, its like a broken record.
So no this isn’t going to prove or disprove anything.
Those of us who can get over it are in for one great fight (hopefully) regardless of who wins.
by Confused on Oct 18, 2008 12:54 PM EDT reply actions
Well he did lose that fight, he is protected, and I don’t like him. I do think he has some decent skills though and will probably win tonight.
All the people that love Bisping need to get over the fact that he did lose to Hamill, he is protected and he did not beat anyone of any kind of notable skill.
I hope they beat the crap out of each other though.
by MarineMike on Oct 18, 2008 1:17 PM EDT up reply actions
he did??? lst I checked he won a spli decision. I thought it was close, hammil got a take down, bisping got up. Bispings boxoing was way better. My wife (who forgot more mma than most of us ever knew) had bisping winning, i had a draw!
by kevin (most moderated guy on mmamania) on Oct 18, 2008 1:24 PM EDT up reply actions
I do like Bisping and I do think he lost to Hamil (on the night) I dont think Ive ever read anywhere on these boards anyone claim Bisping won that fight.
I dont have any problem with people disliking Bisping (or any fighter) and wanting him to lose, differences of opinion is what makes forums like this interesting and fun. But some of the stuff posted here about Bisping is nonesense written by people who say he is going to lose before they know who he is fighting, thats the only thing that annoys me.
But I do agree, allthough I will be rooting for bisping win or lose so long as I see an all out war with both guy’s giving 100% I’ll be happy.

I had Cane winning this fight from the start. Although Sokoudjou had an excellent 1st round. Can was just biding his time I think and when Sokoudjou couldn’t finish him cos he just kept walking forward he kinda gave up.
I expect big things from Cane and will be a dangerous fight for a lot of the top guys also as he has FINISH HIM written all over his style.
He was right in front of me when he was beating Sokoudjou’s head in and I was loving it.
All in all I had a great evening at the NIA and really got a lot of action for my money.

OMG its started allready, Leben didn’t knock him out so now the haters are on to supporting the next guy. see Lebens face at the end of the fight…he got owned
by Confused on Oct 18, 2008 5:53 PM EDT up reply actions
Owned? Idk about that. Yeah, he got cut. But besides that, one didn’t dominate the other. Congrats to Bisping on the win, but it was a close fight. It looks like both guys just keep getting better, though and Bisping’s better technically at this point. No “ownage” on either part though, imo.
by Dayman Fan on Oct 18, 2008 6:03 PM EDT up reply actions
Absulutley owned, Bisping was unmarked his gameplan worked perfectly and Leben had no response he only landed about four or five punches the whole fight the rest of the fight he was just throwing legs to no effect, yes Leben did come forward but he didn’t do anything.
This was in no way a close fight, Leben got a pity round from 1 judge.
IMO obviously
by Confused on Oct 18, 2008 6:10 PM EDT up reply actions
I live like 15 mins away from Bisping and actually train with 2 of his close friends yet i don’t like him. I don’t hate him but it’s a joke that the UFC think they can can promote themselves in the U.K with one average fighter.

Macho Im not calling you a hater, allthough I am a bisping fan and proud to support him.
But I dont believe (and I dont think he believes) he is ready for Hendo or franklin yet let alone Silva.
My point is he is never the one saying he is going to challenge for the belt soon, he just says his plan is to challange for the belt eventualy.
Sorry if you thought I was having a go but you have to understand as a bisping fan on this board its easy to get lonley and defensive….LOL
by Confused on Oct 18, 2008 6:49 PM EDT up reply actions
Yea cool bro. Yeah i understand, I don’t hate Bisping I just get fed up of hearing about him. Loads of people at my work always go on about him to me because they know I train mma and when they talk about mma thats all i hear “bisping this, bisping that” haha you can see why i get annoyed. But he is an ok guy, pretty cool.
by Macho Bullshit on Oct 18, 2008 6:57 PM EDT up reply actions
I’ll support any british fighter that comes through and without a doubt the best british display came from Paul Taylor he was unlucky not to get the decision but he is deffinately one to watch.
But at the moment Bisping is the only British guy doing anything in the UFC so he is my focus for support.
by Confused on Oct 18, 2008 7:07 PM EDT up reply actions
Yeah I thought Taylor won, it was close but i thought Taylor did more than Lytle. I scored it 29-28 in his favour, may have to watch it again to make sure.
Just wait, 5-10 years time from now British mma will be booming, well hopefully. Got a long way to go but it can be done, just at the moment not a lot of great fighters and the british mma orgs are not that great, like I’m english but can’t stand to watch Cage Rage. Things will improve though.

Impressed with Lebens graciousness in defeat. but Bisping gave him a lesson in boxing, He still looked unmarked at the end of the fight even though Leben had landed 3 big lefts.
Leben was just two slow and one dimensional, he was never knocking Bisping out.
by Confused on Oct 18, 2008 5:51 PM EDT reply actions
What do you expect, Leben is his own head coach with no camp to speak of. Can’t expect too much of a guy who almost goes the distance with Terry Martin lol.
by rockwell on Oct 18, 2008 5:57 PM EDT up reply actions
leben was outclassed. his conditoning looked great and he landed some good leg kicks in the 1rst, other than that it was the same old leben, going for 1 punch. bisping was too fast for him, but leben does have one hell of a chin. bisping is not ready yet for the likes of hendo or franklin, let alone silva, and he admitted it. fights with jason macdonald and ricardo almeida should be next for him.
by b.w. on Oct 18, 2008 6:08 PM EDT up reply actions
I agree 100% with what your saying, especialy about Lebens conditioning he looked great. it looks like Bisping is going to be facing Hendo or Franklin on TUF.
Does he have time for one more fight before it starts?

man i shoulda bet this fight! i had almost no doubt in my mind that bisping was taking this… instead, last minute i put my 75 on marcus davis at -350… still won but obviously woulda made more coin had i bet bisping at -220… oh well i wonder what mania is going to do with the playboy magazine? i can only imagine how many people picked bisping winning a decision
by brendan on Oct 18, 2008 8:25 PM EDT up reply actions
they will probably go with who picked the right scoring or who picked a decesion win for bisping first.

Damn my boys lost leben, vera, soko but man cane impressend me so much i hope he gets that belt:D
by Jared on Oct 18, 2008 5:56 PM EDT reply actions
Cane was good his gameplan came together perfectly
by Confused on Oct 18, 2008 6:01 PM EDT up reply actions
All cane showed was that he can eat kicks in the stomache, and loves the straight left. Sokadjou lost that fight on his own, Cane didnt come out and win it. Sokadjou gased, and his game plan was to obviously try to end it in seconds, which doesnt work very well unless your Anderson Silva.
by Josh on Oct 18, 2008 6:09 PM EDT reply actions
yeah, sticking to your gameplan sucks. a fighter will never go anywhere doing that.

So…having to go the distance with Leben. Wasn’t the talk about Bisping being the next real challenger for Anderson Silva?
by Damn on Oct 18, 2008 6:16 PM EDT reply actions
Yeah, after GSP, probably (if he beats Penn)
by Dayman Fan on Oct 18, 2008 6:18 PM EDT up reply actions
No, on this board the talk was about how Leben was going to KTFO Bisping…..Didn’t happen.
You should watch the speech from Bisping at the end of the fight, he only talks about his progression through the ranks and how he needs to fight 1 or 2 more solid middleweights before he thinks about a title shot.
As for tonight Bisping done exactly what he had to do to win the fight, for a different fighter he will fight a different way. it was obvious his entire gameplan for this fight was about not giving Leben an opertunity to throw a heavy left.
by Confused on Oct 18, 2008 6:21 PM EDT up reply actions
Yeah,i had meant immediately next.
GSP can do it, but it would be tough. Not to be a homer, but I think the only one that can would be Rich Franklin if he re-trained hard for like 2 years. But I dont think that is going to happen.
by Damn on Oct 18, 2008 6:21 PM EDT reply actions
I cant see it hapening, Bisping acknowledged himself that he isn’t ready for Silva and with TUF coming up…
I think as predicted both TUF coaches will fight for the right to face Silva in one of his last fights.
by Confused on Oct 18, 2008 6:37 PM EDT up reply actions
That’s the right approach too. He was a contestant on a damned show three years ago, he deserves a chance to mature like Anderson had. Fighters should take their time and not rush it. Good for Bisping.

by sycboi on Oct 18, 2008 7:10 PM EDT reply actions
i think he had some vaseline in his eye, but it was a little strange. you dont get timeouts in mma. kinda like when herb dean stopped the couture/gonzaga fight when gonzaga complained about not breathing, that was a unwarrented timeout. its the refs job to make sure the fighters dont have to much shit on their face before the round starts.
by b.w. on Oct 18, 2008 7:19 PM EDT up reply actions
It showed me that Bisping felt maybe too comfortable in there. He had a plan to box in retreat and he won but it wasn’t something I would remember, and Bisping has a few of those. As did some of the other fighters tonight.
by sycboi on Oct 18, 2008 7:28 PM EDT up reply actions
louis cane and shane carwin were the only 2 fighters who were very impressive(although carwins fight was a gimme). the rest of the fights/fighters were just ok and all the winners did just enough to win. the whole event was just average, on par with an ufn.

I knew Bisping would win this easily. Chris is a tier below. Needless to say Franklin and Hendo are a tier above Mike. As for Anderson…well he’s way out there on his own.
Soku was terrible, very unprofessional gassing like that. Not a great event all in all. Good to see Marcus get the W.

Did you even watch the fight? Leben gave Bisping all he could handle. That wasn’t by any means any easy victory for Bisping.
by Jono on Oct 18, 2008 8:25 PM EDT up reply actions
Did you watch the fight?
Leben only landed a handfull of punches the whole fight.
Bisping walked it, not a mark on him at the end of the fight and he wasn’t even out of breath.
by Confused on Oct 18, 2008 9:12 PM EDT up reply actions
You are clearly bias’d, Leben landed a lot of shots, he clearly lost to Bisping’s stick and move style but I wouldn’t call it an easy victory, Leben is often bloody at the end of his fights he has an iron jaw and he knows it so he’ll happily take a few shots trying to get his big hit which is also kind of a weak style. I agree with the people saying Bisping won’t be a champ with this style, harder to try and win by decision when there are 5 rounds to fight, but like he said he’s not ready for that level yet so he may realize he needs to grow.
by Rawrr on Oct 19, 2008 12:18 AM EDT up reply actions
Yeh I am biased…cant help it lol, I thought Leben looked great and he pushed Bisping as much as he could but I dont think he troubled him enough to force a change in his gameplan which Leben needed to do to get the win, I wont say Bisping owned him anymore what I will say is Bisping handeld Leben perfectly for the win

Leben LOST , there is no doubt about that, but Bisbing gameplan and this style won’t get him further than this far.
If you are a champ you can’t defend your title with this style

"The game plan was about using my speed to go for a unanimous decision win," said Bisping.
Well I for one think this will get a fighter nowhere fast.

What’s up with Vera? If I didn’t know better I’d say that he “was hearing footsteps”. Vera lacks a “killer instinct”. He reminds me of Arlovski a year ago. The Lyttle fight was excellent.

I am very disspointed again in the fight of Leben and this punk that I dont know what happens ,but he always wins. This is another example of Lioto Machida who runs like rabbit and at the end wins. This is as a complete disrespect to the fans.

I dont see how a bunch of you say “Look at the end of the fight, Leben was beat up” That does not mean a damn thing. Some cut and bruise easier than others. If you remember the Stout and Fisher fight, they were both knocking the shit out of eachother and Fisher was cut and bleeding everywhere and Stout looked fine. If you use that as an excuse why Bisping won then your an idiot and maybe need to learn a little bit.

By the way Bisping looked like crap and looked a little like Starnes. Run, Run, punch, Run, Run and why not run a little more.
by lenzino03 on Oct 19, 2008 1:28 AM EDT reply actions
well lenzino
he ran…he must be very good if he can run the whole fight and still make leben look like he got jumped by 50 ppl…he got anhiliatwde…dont hate on bisping cuz hes not dumb..wat is he supposed to do..stand there and exchane with a person who is known to drop ppl…come train at xtreme couture for a lil and ull learn some mma

Anyone wanna see Hendo vs Rampage 2 assuming they both win or lose their matches?

Wow. It is really crazy how some of you can watch someone get their ass kicked and say that they didnt. It reminds me of my high school. So stupid.
LEBEN LOST!!! He got handled. Serious. He landed like 6 punches. And blocked like 60 with his face. That was the the entire fight. How anyone saw it any different is way beyond me.
There will be haters no matter what I guess.
I guess Leben looked good enough to get a title shot soon? hahahahahahahaha
I guess alot of punching bags fight for the title?
by enzo-enormous on Oct 19, 2008 2:16 PM EDT reply actions
exactly….lolll…it feels like high school..when ppl dont want to admit that the person they were routing for lost….that was a good analogy..hahaha
