UFC Quick Quote: Patrick Cote has a plan for Anderson Silva

patrick cote

"We've found some holes in his game and we're going to exploit that for sure. We're going to have a good strategy, a good game plan in this fight. The plan is to win. The plan is to put him away and take his belt.... I'm training like crazy and I'm ready to go. I'm ready for 25 minutes with anybody."

-- Current number one middleweight contender Patrick Cote shares the rough gameplan he has mapped out for middleweight champion Anderson Silva at UFC 90: "Silva vs. Cote" at the Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Ill., on October 25 via MMA Fanhouse. In the words of the once great Mike Tyson, "Everyone has a plan ... until they get punched in the face." It will be super interesting to see how the Canadian responds when that happens inside the Octagon next Saturday. You just never know.

I dont think I’ve heard any of Silva’s previous opponents as pumped as Cote is. Sure they were all confident and ready to go, but Cote is acting like he has been wanting a piece for a very long time now. I am very interested to see how far his adrenaline will take him or lead him to victory. I threw 10 bucks on him to win 50 so Im definitely rooting for him.

clearly Cote is high on something if he things he even got’s a chance.. i mean this man is a freakin … FREAK!!
who could ever beat this guy. silva said that he would rather have his leg broke then tap.

Well he taped to Ryo Chonnon

by belfort_fan on Oct 17, 2008 12:26 PM EDT up reply actions

Also Daiju Takase at pride 26 i think? anyways i agree cote’s chances are slim. but to be that blind of anything other than the complete destruction of cote is a lil bit on the ignorant side, BUT lol im not saying to bet against silva neither…id rather see cote win by some crazy huge upset TKO. gives silva more money fights.

Like I said before the only way Patrick Cote is going to win this fight is if Anderson Silva changes his name to Patrick Cote.

LOL at Psyqo78. But I guess Patrick cote’s plan is “not to get murdered”.

by The_Cannibal on Oct 18, 2008 12:05 PM EDT up reply actions

His game plan is that he won’t be scared of Silva. It shows cause its all he ever talks about but in reality he doesn’t even give a hint of what he plans to do probably because he’s scared of tipping Silva off in anyway. Its awesome that he isn’t afraid to fight Silva, maybe we’ll even get 3 rounds but its doubtable. Its one thing to not be scared of Silva but its another to have the tools to defeat him. There are only two people in Silva’s weight class who may be able to beat Silva are Hendo and Okami. Franklin is awesome and improved the second time he fought Silva but he isn’t going to be getting a thrid chance, while I will be waiting to see how Bisping handles Leben to pass judgement on if he could stand in the ring accross from the Spider.

by Cogito Ergo Sum on Oct 17, 2008 11:56 AM EDT up reply actions

Hendo wasn’t scared of Silva. He acted like the belt was already his and called Anderson a pride reject.

by NameNotRequired on Oct 17, 2008 2:00 PM EDT up reply actions

True…but with that confidence hendo had the tools to beat silva..he chose to be to brave and get wild with silva and payed very dearly with it…that is the difference. thats all fight hype tho hendo calling out silva like that. he sure was in a place to do so being the only real threat to silva at the time. its hard for me to see cote winning this but if anyone was ever in the best mindset to take on a phenom like silva..cote has impressed me the most by far. he really isnt scared of silva and is willing to show that by trying to stand with him…FAN automatically.

by santiago69us on Oct 17, 2008 2:09 PM EDT up reply actions

Agreed, i for one don’t believe that Cote has even a punchers’ chance.

by NameNotRequired on Oct 17, 2008 4:44 PM EDT up reply actions

That’s the difference between Hendo’s confidence and Cote’s. Hendo called him a Pride reject. That’s just STUPIDE. Cote is more realistic, he knows how dangerous Silva is,but he is a bad matchup for Silva and he knows it. Silva has to rock him to go in for the kill. He’s NOT going to rock Cote. Call me crazy and I know many will, but I hold confidence in high regard and Cote is as confident as they come. He’s not just saying crap, like some fighter do to hype a fight. He truley believes he will beat him. Cote will shock the world.

Can you say “and new UFC middleweight champion of the world, PATRICK COTE”???

by jtl87 on Oct 17, 2008 1:14 PM EDT up reply actions

you forgot his nickname “The Predator”

by Jee on Oct 17, 2008 4:17 PM EDT up reply actions

u can say it but will never happen. and btw i ound out wat cote’s game plan is let silva punch him in the face just like james irvins game plan. the only reason they gave cote 2 silva is so he can have more film 4 his highlight reel.

by Xtreme Couture15 on Oct 19, 2008 2:17 AM EDT up reply actions

Well your plan obviously won’t be to stand up with him, close or far the spider can strike (look at video for explanation).

by MikeD on Oct 17, 2008 11:16 AM EDT reply actions

Silva has power from far, but not from close (not counting the clinch) Grove tried to put Cote in the clinch and he got DROPPED from NO distance at all. Cote has serious power from in close and he’s showed it more than once. I know Silva has a DEADLY clinch, but Cote has NEVER show a weakness to the clinch game and the only real victom to Silva’s was Rich (I SUCK in the clinch) Franklin. If Cote keep’s it in close he will KO him and I’m sure this is the reason he know he will beat him.

by Gord on Oct 17, 2008 10:55 PM EDT up reply actions

stranger things have happened

by McArthur on Oct 17, 2008 11:17 AM EDT reply actions

LOL… Now this is just getting ridiculous. Patrick is obviuosly trying to overcompensate for his lack of confidence.

The only holes in Anderson’s game are the holes he punches through peoples faces!

by BNF on Oct 17, 2008 11:19 AM EDT reply actions

LMAO! BNF, your right! Its good to see Cote is confident! That way we get to see a good fight!

what holes?…. ha ha goodnight cote

by markg on Oct 17, 2008 11:19 AM EDT reply actions

Cote is going to get injured if he honesty think he is going to exploit Andersons “holes”.

by belfort_fan on Oct 17, 2008 12:28 PM EDT up reply actions

He has a plan.. right.. that’s till Silva connects on his chin.

by PhilQNY on Oct 17, 2008 1:32 PM EDT up reply actions

The question is always who makes the first mistake. Silva’s awesome at finding the other person’s mistakes quicker. Cote doesn’t seem like the tactical kind.

by NameNotRequired on Oct 17, 2008 2:04 PM EDT up reply actions

Yeah Anderson Silva doesnt make mistakes often.

by belfort_fan on Oct 17, 2008 4:09 PM EDT up reply actions

The only holes Cote’s gonna see are Anderson’s nostrils and mouth, and his a$$hole!

by Syd[a.k.a. "The Negation"] on Oct 17, 2008 9:32 PM EDT up reply actions

I’m sure Leben, Franklin, Lutter, Marquardt, Henderson & Irvin all had gameplans, but that didn’t stop them getting beat by Anderson.

I just feel Anderson will have too much for Cote in all departments and will make quick work of Patrick.

I’ll be surprised if this fight goes into the second round.

by Jourdan on Oct 17, 2008 11:19 AM EDT reply actions

doh can you release my comment :)

The only chance Cote has is to bring him to the ground and not got killed, but it’s 5 rounds so…

by MikeD on Oct 17, 2008 11:20 AM EDT reply actions

Everybody finds holes in Silva’s game leading up to the fight…That’s worked out well for his last 6-7 opponents hasn’t it…

by FukStyck on Oct 17, 2008 11:21 AM EDT reply actions

They were all fighting SCARED and if Lutter and Hendo weren’t at the start, they were in the second round. Cote is fearless and he has a ton of heart. Not to mention his chin can take the shots that got those guys in TROUBLE. You have to get in trouble to lose to Silva. Cote’s defence is GREAT, sure the odd one slips through, but it’s going to take more than the odd one to KO him. He’s just to good at protecting himself to eat a huge combo. I know Silva is an animal, but have you noticed Cote’s face at the end of ALL his fights. He doesn’t take fight ending damage from strikes. Not even close. Silva’s an expert at giving damage and Cote is a expert at avoiding it. That’s what will make this a great fight. Silva knows it, that’s why he want’s this fight so bad. He know’s Cote won’t go down so easy, like the rest of them. He want’s some competition and he will get it from Cote. Don’t say Anderson know’s he will DESTROY him, because that says he wants EASY fights. Silva WANTED this fight.

by Gord on Oct 17, 2008 11:24 PM EDT up reply actions

Pat, i hope you are ready for 25 days of recovery in the hospital, not 25 minutes iin the octagon

by anderson silva rules on Oct 17, 2008 11:26 AM EDT reply actions

cote is in for a brutal KO

silva is significantly better than him at everything

cote looked awful in heis last fight

his ground skills are poor wheras silva is a NOG trained black belt

cotes strength is supposedly standup… good luck with that patrick

by bigjohn on Oct 17, 2008 11:29 AM EDT reply actions

Not getting submitted by Almeida should count for something of Cote’s ground game.

by c-war on Oct 17, 2008 11:40 AM EDT up reply actions

No shit dude.

I’d put $100 on Aleida over Silva in a grappling match.

Definately does say something that Cote grappled with him and didn’t get subbed…..says alot.

by introvert on Oct 17, 2008 11:43 AM EDT up reply actions

Yeah and he subbed Jason Macdonald, why do some say his ground game is poor. It’s not the best, but it is pretty dam good and Maia can’t KGTFO like Cote can. He uses his striking the most, because that’s what he is best at, but his ground game is WAY better than most Submission guys striking is. He’s more well rounded than most give him credit for.

by Gord on Oct 17, 2008 11:36 PM EDT up reply actions

I always route against Silva, I need a bad guy to route against. Since Tito left and Hughes sucks Silva is my villan. I am pretty sure he will crush Cote though, but people said that about Serra and GSP, Petruzelli and….ok I won’t go there.

by mike on Oct 17, 2008 11:37 AM EDT reply actions

why do you root against the best? Silva is the man! I love watching him fight and dominate these guys that look like kids next to him.

by Anthony on Oct 17, 2008 5:52 PM EDT up reply actions

Did any of you see anderson silva on the ultimate fighter sparring with that heavy wieght dude. He couldnt even hit him. Silva has the best head and foot movement of anyone in MMA. He reminds me of mayweather. Quick, light on his feet and looks directly at you. The punches that will get anderson silva upset are quick set jabs and change of direction. Cote is going to try to throw bombs, I know it. He is going to get picked apart real fast. Silva goes from legs to head kicks and changes levels at all times. Once cote takes a hard hit ( and he will pretty fast) he is going to go to his roots which are str8 up slugger. He is done!!!!

by What?? on Oct 17, 2008 11:44 AM EDT reply actions

I saw that too and feel the exact same way. I’ve been saying this for awhile now. What makes Silva better than anybody in the world, even Fedor, is his movement. He moves so effortlessly and gracefully its ridiculous. Then you combine that movement with the most ridiculous set of striking skills ever created and you have a monster. Then you realize that he’s also a Black belt in BJJ and it’s like WTF? The guy is just SCARY. that’s the only way to even look at it.

by Anthony on Oct 17, 2008 5:54 PM EDT up reply actions

War Cote!!!!!!!!!

I’m only saying it because I’m Canadian.

Good thing we have free health care up here.

Rooting for him though.

by introvert on Oct 17, 2008 11:44 AM EDT reply actions

Even if I were Canadian I’d still root for Silva haha. For example, I’m sure millions of non-Chicagoans were Bulls fans solely for MJ :) those were the days

daaaahhh bulllsssss

by brendan on Oct 17, 2008 4:37 PM EDT up reply actions

The other thing is that I have a small feeling silva will go for the takedown and submit him within the first 2 min. That would be the smartest fight for him…

by What?? on Oct 17, 2008 11:50 AM EDT reply actions

Yes, that would definitely be the smartest fight for him, but will he do it. Also if his takedowns are anything like his TD defence he will NEVER get Cote down. If Silva has a weakness, it’s his wrestling.

by Gord on Oct 17, 2008 11:51 PM EDT up reply actions

Hitting his knees with your face isnt what I call a gameplan Paddy my boy

by kayriss on Oct 17, 2008 12:12 PM EDT reply actions

I’d love to see Cote win just if only to see what all you Silva guys would say. ha that would entertain me for a while, but actually I do want Cote to derail Silva. Go Canada!

by GodDamnMike on Oct 17, 2008 12:19 PM EDT reply actions

Cote has a better chance than what Serra had the time he beat GSP. I do think Cote has a punchers chance or not a little more but A.S. is on top of his game so he “SHOULD” win. I guess we will have to wait and see.

by Calgary Real Estate on Oct 17, 2008 12:59 PM EDT reply actions

The most likely result is that Anderson Silva will pistol whip him… with his penis.

by sdow on Oct 17, 2008 1:24 PM EDT reply actions

I just do not see how Cote could possibly win.

by RipTheSystem on Oct 17, 2008 1:25 PM EDT reply actions

That’s what we said about Matt Serra.

by c-war on Oct 17, 2008 2:24 PM EDT up reply actions

Well silva dose have a few holes but you have to be extremely quick to catch them, because he adjust pretty quick, but if cote pressures silva and stays in the pocket avoids the clinch or Even pressures him on the cage Cote could have dominating performance, I know what holes Cote is talking about I saw them a long time ago, the problem is silva adjust quick so those holes aren’t there long unless you keep pressure, but look what happens to guys who try to keep pressure on Silva and make one slip up.

by jsoph on Oct 17, 2008 2:22 PM EDT reply actions

One weakness is his flying armbar defense…..Cote should go for it right off the bat. lol

by introvert on Oct 17, 2008 3:32 PM EDT up reply actions

R.I.P patrick cote. Game plan..LOL. only an amazing wresler and submission artist could beat silva, nobodies going to out strike him, if you could combine penn’s submissions with gsp’s wrestling that would be a great fight. Watch, cote knocks out silva, you just never know with MMA.

by nathan on Oct 17, 2008 4:43 PM EDT reply actions

Did you guys see Anderson as guest coach on TUF? Dude that is how Patrick is gonna look, toyed with, and beaten.

by The Anomaly on Oct 17, 2008 5:55 PM EDT reply actions

i already see it written on Cote’s tombstone…“I thought i found come holes in his game! i swear!” haha

by bringbackGuillard on Oct 17, 2008 6:53 PM EDT reply actions

by Ray on Oct 17, 2008 7:39 PM EDT reply actions

INCLUDING Silva.

by Gord on Oct 17, 2008 11:57 PM EDT up reply actions

I like Silva but I would like to see Cote take him down, full mount and ground N pound his ass. When’s the last time Silva’s left the Octagon with a scratch on him…he’s due for a beatdown. Yeah yeah I know, then I woke up right.
