how can brandon the crybaby vera be on the main car and the jim miller/gray maynard fight not be?
alltogether solid card. dont be surprised if rampage gets upset by kj(rampage still isnt checking the leg kicks and the leg kicks are kj’s best tool)

The loss of McLovin killed this card for me. Im glad I watch the UFCs at a bar. I’d hate to pay 45 bucks for this..

Because Vera is one of the highest paid athletes in the UFC. Not necessarily because he deserves but Dana white just cant get enough of the sandman.

i´ve heard that it´s gonna be brock vs. nog (or mir?). i sure do hope so, don´t want brock to hang to the title for too long.

Brock versus Mir is at the following PPV.UFC have already announced it.

by john on Feb 4, 2009 8:08 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Just looked at it there Both Lesnar vs. Mir and Hughes vs. Serra are down for UFC 98 in Las Vegas in May.

by john on Feb 4, 2009 8:14 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

hughes vs. serra would at least hold some intrest because of all the anger they have for each other , the fact thier sesson finale bout did’nt materialize , and finally they both know thier careers in the octagone is comming to an end . They both want to at least beat down thier nimisis before they hang it up . If this fight does come up , I hope Serra beats hughs an inch from death to put the last nail in the coffin of Matt’s fight career !!

by c-one on Nov 29, 2008 11:52 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

@c-one

Your dreamin’ sir. No way does Serra beat Hughes.

by hulk smash on Nov 30, 2008 3:36 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

@hulk smash

Did you hear what Hughes said when he coached UFC " I only have two maybe three fights left in me " . By the looks of his bout against the pitbull , Hughs is finished and just wants to pick up as many pay checks as he can till he gets puts out of his mesery . Serra to submit Hughes in the second .

by c-one on Dec 1, 2008 1:47 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Serra hasn’t submitted anyone in an MMA fight since Kelly Dullanty.Losing to Alves the number 1 Welterweight contender in the UFC hardly means Hughes is finished.Does that mean Koscheck and Karo Parisyan are finished to.People love to jump to conclusions and blow things out of proportion. It’s ridiculous.Hughes would take Serra down at will and grind out a unanimous decision.Serra is a hard guy to finish I’ll give him that.

by Robert on Dec 1, 2008 2:19 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

@Robert

True true , I did blow it up some . I just dont see the heart of Hughs in the octagon any more he dosnt seem to be at his “A” game any more . I think he’s just not motivated , he has nothing else to prove being a future hall of famer . BUT we all know both fighters dispise each other and hopefully that will be motivation enough to bring a good show for the fans on fight night .

hughes is the worst fighter in the ufc and i hope he gets hit by a bus, he thinks hes good but all he does is take ppl down and hold them he sucks ballllzzzzzzzzzzzzz

by canada beat usa in war of 1812 on Dec 21, 2008 2:00 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I agree that Hughes’ career is on the decline, I think he has other ambitions at this point and fighting isn’t one of them.

But to call him the worst fighter in the UFC? Come on! The guy has 15 TKOs and 18 submissions in his 42 fights and has only been beaten by top tier guys (GSP, BJ, Alves, Hallman, etc.) His takedowns are stellar and he’s constantly working to advance his position and work for a sub or a TKO. I’m not exactly his biggest fan, I think he’s far too cocky and a bit of an ass, but give the guy the respect he deserves…

by JRK on Jan 13, 2009 9:48 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

the only thing i like about matt hughes is his entrance song. go ahead and hate on that if ya like. oh and the fact that he gets kicked in the balls or poked in the eye at least once in every fight iv’e seen… man karma is a bitch for a turd like hughes!

Matt hughes has already officially been announced for the card in april. i think it will be the middleweight title on the line at UFC 96 because the heavyweight titles will be fought for shortly before, and the light and welterweight champs are fighting at UFC 94…so, in my opinion it’llbe middleweight championship.

by Andrew MacLaughlin on Dec 4, 2008 4:32 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Liddell will fight in either 95 or 96 (hopefully at HW). If Hughes-Serra is the main event, they would need a Liddell on the card to sell some PPVs. Although Hughes and Serra hate each other, would anyone really pay to see that fight??

*Keeping my fingers crossed for 96: Nog-Brock

by OU on Dec 5, 2008 2:39 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Hughes/Serra wouldn’t draw enough ppv by itself. The UFC likes giving Columbus good fights esp with the Arnold Classic next door. The UFC won’t let Columbus down. With Silva wanting to fight at 205, I wouldn’t be surprised to see him on the card again. The Heavyweight Championship is prb unlikely as that would mean the Mir/Nog winner would have just over two months to recover and train, not something too many ppl do (beside Silva).

Matt Serra has submitted someone since Kelly Dullanty.

You may have heard of him, his name is Georges St. Pierre.

This is probably the Lesnar/Nogueira Mir winner

Serra/Hughes is in April.

by sam on Dec 10, 2008 11:19 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

Even though it appeared that GSP tapped at the end, it’s still classed as a TKO, but I get your point. But since Serra is this supposed Jiu Jitsu master, his jits in MMA is not exactly impressive.

I compare Serra with Andy Wang, talented but too stupid and/or stubborn to use what he’s best at to get the win. And come on, 14 fights in 10 years?

by JRK on Jan 13, 2009 9:55 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Does anyone know when Dong Hyun Kim fights again? There was talk of him fighting in 94 but thats not happening. I doubt it will be UFC 95 because its in London.

He has only fought twice in the UFC and won both fights. I guessing we will get to see him fight again. Dont most new UFC recruits sign a 3 or 4 fight contract?

Thanks.

I’m from davenport Iowa, and i have meant Matt Hughes 3 or 4 times he is an ass this a very big ego typical farm kid thinks he is the be all and end all of every thing. if you know some farm kids you know the type. so i hope Serra bets the crap out of him then makes him tap out with a rear naked choke

Huerta has already been given the nod just no opponent yet,as far as the main event…..Silva at 205 vs.

I’m hearing Huerta/Fisher on the main card.

Its also possible this could be the night for four of guys who should retire.
Maybe we’ll see Hughes/Serra and Randy/Chuck. These guys are all past their prime and are no longer contenders by any means.

its going to be Liddell Jardine in columbus.Silva wont fight at 205 for awhile.they have pretty much made it clear if st. pierre wins against penn that he will fight silva toward the end of the year on another super card,in which the heavyweight championship would be on same card.like around august.and as for matt hughes,he has made it publicly known he only is going to fight one more fight and it will be against Serra.hes to busy with his training facility’s and his daughter, but washed up you people are crazy.

I have floor seats for this event. Was at the last two, and they were great cards. However, the way this card is shaping up, I may be selling my seats and staying home to watch. Liddell vs Jardine II?! Come on! They have had a championship bout on all three Ohio cards, and they need to have one for March. We in Ohio have been very good to the UFC. Hopefully they add a championship bout, and better fights for the main and under cards.

by Tim Jollay on Dec 30, 2008 3:21 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

I sure hope they put Lesnar/Mir on that one. Some buddies and I got 4th row from the floor seats for cheap and are making the trip from Toronto. $150 each and similar seats in Vegas were $750-$1000 depending on the section you’re in. I tricked my lady into going to UFC 91 (“ooops, is the UFC in Vegas the same weekend as our trip?”) and Lesnar did not disapoint. Yeah, I’m a Brock fan; deal with it. Ever since he laid out Spike Dudley in his WWF televised debut. Say what you want, but all remember that Couture got his first title shot in only his 4th fight (at least Lesnar beat Herring, Couture beat who, WWF’s Ludvig Borga?). Plus, he’s just a beast.

Anyways, that aside, I got one question for you Tim: is the Ohio show going to be UFC 96 or a UFC Fight Night? My confirmation e-mail from ticketmaster says “UFC Fight Night Live”, Ohio, March 7, etc. Anyone else get a similar confirmation e-mail?

My mistake, Rashad vs Rampage

by DF on Jan 9, 2009 11:19 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

I wish they would just announce the final card already. I am tired of guessing who will be fighting. Tickets are bought hotel is booked. I am making the drive from Detroit. I’m ready to go. Give us the damn card already!!!!! This is the first time I noticed tickets on sale without fights announced. It really slowed down ticket sales. I got great seats the 2nd day of the presale.

I would love to see chuck fight forest but it doesn’t look likely. Bottom line is chuck has to win what ever fight is put in front of him so my guess is it’s not going to be a huge fight like rampage and I really don’t care to see liddell-jardine 2.

I am also a brock fan and would love to see mir/lesnar 2 as the main event. Also glad to see huerta on the card.

If anyone has any real info lets hear it.

by paw977 on Jan 9, 2009 7:57 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

according to a dana interview…chuck wont fight forrest bc chuck needs a win…and chuck most likely wont be on 96. it sucks..only mmaplaygrounds website they got 8 fights on there for this columbus card and they are ok fights..but only 1 i really good fight..and no main event rumor..kinda sucks.

i heard chuck is out sad card
i am flying from calim no main event nor co main event, very sad. they better have at least 11 fights on this card. but the fact a maynard vs miller and hazlett vs saunders both are on main card speaks volumes to how lousy this card is.

by bryant on Jan 10, 2009 12:09 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

hazlett is on a tear…saunders is undefeated and just put a hurtin on his last oppenent, miller is 13-1 and 2-0 in the octagan and has always put on exciting fight…maynard is undefeated and is working his way up the ladder as he has recently beaten frankie edgar and rich clememti.

by DF on Jan 18, 2009 10:34 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

ehh there both top contenders but since i am going to this event i would have loved to see a title fight. I think this fight could turn out great depending on what jardine shows up. Will it be the jardine who got embarrassed by houston and silva or the jardine that beat two former champs in liddell and griffin? I also think alot of these fights have to potential to be very exciting such as hazlett vs. saunders, maynard vs. miller, gonzaga vs. carwin and matt brown vs. pete sell

I think this card is def. lacking. Page/Jardine is a co-main event at best. I like Jardine, but hes been on a win-lose-win-lose type streak lately. Stats say he loses. My guess by KO. I would absolutely LOVE for him to pull an upset though. Jardine gameplan = KICKKKKS!!!!

My main beef with 96 is the fact that Hamill and Vera get televised fights. How bad to they both have to look before they get thrown on the undercard. I am very interested in Miller/Maynard, Grove/Day, and Sell/Brown (to an extent).

However, I am super excited about the McClovin/Saunders fight. I in no way see a decision here. TKO or Submission, and I think it will be submission. I’m a big fan of McClovin (who isn’t) and I think this year he will emerge as a consensus top 10 UFC WW (if he isn’t thought of already). After he submits Saunders with a Flying Scissor Omaplata Armbar, he will get some quality fights against top tier guys.

I’d like to see him fight Karo, Kos II, Swick. If he fought Fitch, Fitch would LnP on him for 3 rounds. :/

don’t get too excited hazlett is injured and off the card now

could this card get any worse

Yeah I live in Columbus and was excited for Rampage Vs Evans, but seriously Gonzaga Carwin and Maynard Miller are the best two fights besides Rampage Jardine and even that isn’t that exciting. Man somewhere Jon Fitch is pissed. Him vs. Gono could have been the co-main event.

i agree two best fights are gonzaga and maynard even with those two plus hamill and rampage matches the ufc needs to add another main event card qualifying match

This card lacks a main event badly. With all the great fighters in the UFC they can’t give us a better card than this. I’d rather have the 95 card than this shit

Hey stop whining across the pond!! over here in the UK we would accept most of the fight cards you guys get in the USA, just look how basic UFC 95 in London is!!! we deserve some top fights, but looks like Dana saves them for PPV as UK fights are free on Spike!! maybe we will get Bisping vs Hendo in the summer!

ufc 95 looks better than 96 in my opinion!!

This would have been a great time to have the hugehs vs. serra grudge match but serra had to knock up his wife at the perfect time so that she would be having the baby now forcing him to put the fight off until may, this card is lacking a true main event without a title fight and that would have been made up for with to solid fights at the top instead of one that is sorta pointless in rampage vs. jardine

wow, rumors swirl that chuck is going to headline the ufc 96 event. unreal tickets go on sale and of course a few weeks later rumors come up that chuck is out. great marketing dana, go out and buy the tickets first day and think your going to see acdc and then milli vanilli shows up. come on ufc thats not treating your fans right i will never buy tickets until the entire fight card is released, this will be my sixth live event and this card stacks up as the weakest. this will be the first event i have attended that is a non-title fight card. i liked how chuck was off the card they rumored to have rampage vs. evans, yeah lets have evans fight every three months, come on stop having events every month, let the anticipation for a great match build. this ufc 94 should have been build up for 4 to 5 months, whoever wins the next opponent is a joke get real. this is the only advantage boxing has, build the fight, not flip fights every four weeks to build your pockets deep dana, you came from the boxing circuit you should know how to treat the loyal fan. ufc 96 seriously is unexplainable, its during the arnold classic (biggest sporting expo in north america) and they put up jardine in the main event, good luck selling 6,000 tickets. i would rather the ufc skip columbus or the bs ufc 95 card than to really pursue it. here is great advice let your fighters heal and put together solid shows and treat the fans great for they are the ones that keep you going if people stopped purchasing the ufc would fade away.

your stupid…so you want the ufc to have 2 or 3 cards per year…so your saying they should follow afflictions business model? the company who loses a ton of money everytime they put on a card.

this card might look weak but alot of times the cards that look weak end up being the most exciting, I bought tickets to this event and i was waiting and waiting to buy them until they announced some fights but then i heard the rumor of rampage vs. evans and i jumped the gun and bought them and now i am stuck with rampage vs. jardine but im going to be positive and hope for the best. Gonzaga vs. carwin should be a great fight, miller vs. maynard should be good, vera vs. a nobody should end in a exciting vera knockout like he did back in the day. grove vs. day i think will be an exciting fight, i think we should stop judging the card before it takes place and wait till it actually happens.

C’mon, does anybody here really think Jardine has a chance against Page. This main card won’t get out of the first round.

the full fight card is now up on ufc.com it looks like this:

Main Event:
Rampage Jackson vs. Keith Jardine

Main Card:
Matt Hammill vs. Mark Munoz
Pete Sell vs. Matt Brown
Gabriel Gonzaga vs. Shane Carwin
Gray Maynard vs. Jim miller

Undercard:
Tandam Mccory vs. Ryan Madigan
Kendall Grove vs. Jason Day
Tim Boetsch vs. Jason Brilz
Brandon Vera vs. Michael Patt
Aaron Riley vs. Shane Nelson

This card looks weak now but i see the potential for alot of exciting fights and finishes. We pretty much all expect a highlight reel knockout for rampage, Hammill vs. Munoz will probably turn into a stand up battle although both arent known for striking.Pete Sell vs. Matt Brown is probably going to be a three round war and earn fight of the night. Gonzaga vs. Carwin two top contenders who both heavy heavy hands and like to throw down. Gray Maynard vs. Miller could be either really exciting or boring but i see maynard trying to lay and pray his way to another decision but miller will pull out a submission sometime late in the fight.

This is a bs PPV. Should be free on Spike but too bad the last UFC event was two big fights away from a real card too.
