UFC Quick Quote: Paul Kelly has a good story ... and a better scar

"I actually blew my leg off, if you can believe that.... I was actually in bed, in hospital, for six months on my back. I snapped my femur, had 800 stitches and whatever else. And I say this to everybody, in full confidence, it’s the worst scar you’ve ever seen in your life.... I often pretend it’s a shark bite because it looks exactly like a shark bite.... I could see every part of my leg and I started picking leaves and mud out of my leg, out of the inside of my leg. You could fit a suitcase in there. My leg was just wide open just like a chicken leg if you slice right down and it bursts open.... My (younger) brother’s screaming ‘Oh you’re going to die, you’re going to die.'"
-- British welterweight Paul Kelly tells Winnipeg Sun about a horrific childhood motorcycle accident that nearly killed him and cost him his leg. It's a cool story. He explains that he now has no feeling in his thigh area as a result of the carnage, which helps him now as a mixed martial artist -- he doesn't have to check kicks. Kelly will look to keep his perfect record intact when he takes on Marcus Davis at UFC 89: "Bisping vs. Leben" at The National Indoor Arena (NIA) in Birmingham, England, on October 18. The fight will be featured on the televised portion of the card, which will begin to air at 9 p.m. on Spike TV.

His motorcycle story beats Mir’s. I wonder if Mir doesn’t check kicks either?

He should have kept that to himself (doesn’t have to check kicks), it would have given him the advantage. Now Marcus knows to kick the other leg instead!

Lol just because you can’t feel your leg doesn’t mean the dude kicking it, isn’t breaking it. Thats a really bad thing that he can’t feel his leg. Sure it may give him higher pain tolerance advantage but he doesn’t know when to stop. Its a common problem with people who can’t feel heat, when they burn themselves they don’t know it so when someone breaks his leg again he won’t know it.

yeah his leg might just give out from under him after too many kicks

I’m not sure if you joking or not but the whole reason you check a kick is so your leg doesn’t get broken. If you keep your foot planted it increases the chances of your leg snapping.

im a davis fan because hes a local to me. i think this has the makings to be a serious war as long as davis can keep it standing. i bet davis has trained his ass off at takedown defense for this one!!!

I am a Davis fan too, but why does he always have to fight the crowd favorite in England?

I love Marcus Davis, but this is a bad match up for him. If Swick could hold him down… I hope he has been working takedown defense. I have a feeling this guy will hold him down to win a boring decision, but I sure hope I am wrong.

Kelly can make 155. He would do very well at LW I feel. I think this bout could be a war. However if Marcus is landing with the right hand Paul will definitely take him down. He wants to entertain but the win is more important.
I’m undecided and I don’t think I can call it either way at the moment. Should be exciting.

The Davis fight in Birmingham is on the 18th, not the card on the 25th.

Wow, I remember when some fans were so excited about Marcus Davis the mere mention of his name would make them nearly come in their pants. There were shouts about him getting or desrving a title shot. The guy loses to Swick and the fans scurry away like rats leaving a sinking ship. WTF.

True that! I am still on board. I hope he punches a hole through this guys head!

I still think he’s the real deal. He’ll bounce back from the Swick loss.
