UFC Quick Quote: Joe Lauzon and others head out to Iraq to support troops
"It’s going to be an amazing experience. I can’t wait to go overseas and see the troops in Iraq."
-- Lightweight contender Joe Lauzon comments on a 10-day goodwill trip to visit U.S. military troops in Iraq that begins today. Fellow mixed martial artists Jorge Rivera and Heath Herring will join "J-Lau" on the overseas trip. Lauzon most recently defeated Kyle Bradley via second round technical knockout at UFC Fight Night 15 last month. There's no word on his return to the Octagon; however, he has expressed and interest in competing at UFC 94 on January 31 along with his coach and mentor from The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 5, BJ Penn, who takes on Georges St. Pierre in the main event of the evening.

i think lauzon vs guida would be a sick scrap. i’d go with lauzon in that one.

Look for Guida to be fighting Nate Diaz

yeah i heard something about that fight possibly happening.(guida vs diaz) i think that diaz would make a fool out of guida. guida is good but he wont get any better. we’ve all seen his style and i really dont think it will ever change. diaz is still developing and already could beat a lot of top 155ers.

somewhat offtopic: one thing i find interesting about the lauzon/florian fight is that florian absolutely owned lauzon on the ground, AFTER lauzon had spent a good chunk of time training with BJ Penn… what does that say about Penn’s skills? Florian schooled Lauzon on the ground that night and I believe he will be able to hold his own with BJ no matter where the fight goes… Kenny by decision! (mma math doesnt work, i know)

Lauzon’s skills have nothing to do with BJ’s skills. Training under a great does not make you great.

I think Lauzon’s cardio was more the factor in that fight, although he should have had a more defined strategy for avoiding the elbows.
Although I have a history of underestimating Florian, I think BJ would take that fight.

if florian is a huge underdog, 3 to 1 or so, im definitely laying some coin on him

Are you insane??? BJ would kick the crap out of Flo on the feet or on the mat COME ON!!!

For one, Kenny absolutly did NOT own him, up until the mount Kenny gained, positioning wise it was all Lauzon. One could argue it was the elbows, personally Im not so sure, but I think they are very even ground fighters.
And BJ would smash Florian, and Florian knows it.

im a florian fan. i say if he beats joe stevenson we and bj wins against gsp, i’d like to see bj vs florian. i agree that bj would probably win but i also think that florian is close to a title shot. florians a smart fighter, anything can happen in the cage so i wouldnt say that bj would smash florian…..thats no different from everyone saying that gsp was gonna smash serra… look what happened.

I agree Florian deserves a title shot, everybody knows it, so does he, that is why the only reason I can think of for him not trying to hype it yet, by respectfully calling out Penn, is that he is scared.
Anyway, you’re one step from reverting to the ’ol “anything can happen in MMA”, please never say that. Everybody was completely in the right to assume GSP would smash on Serra, that is why it is called an “upset”, becuase, (and reasonalby so), the one fighter has shown to be far superior in other expiriances, and is assumed the win.
This is the case for BJ, I expect him to demolish Florian with little resistance, and if he doesnt, it will be a huge suprise, and upset my reasonable assumption.

these are the types of things that I love to see these guys doing. As much as yuo guys all hate him, Tito is great at honoring the troops!!!

DOES ANYONE REMEMBER which thread or how long ago the LSD conversation was??? It was pretty recent, but there must have obviously been a bunch of posts that I never read.

I got it john, just questioning the contradiction. I believe everything you say because usually I’ve already read it, or read it on another site within an hour. Just seemed like 2 different batches the way you wrote it. Sad life…no, I love my life, where else in the world can I be overpaid by night and chat about mma by day??? try doing that in china!!! lol

penn and lauzon on the same card would be sick.
it’s nice to see fighters taking time outta their busy schedules to go and visit the troops.

Not exactly sure what you meant by that but if you are referring to our troops as terrorists then get off this site and out of this country.

I got to see Kid Rock when I was over there, that was pretty cool. They should put on a show over in Iraq for the troops lol, fighting in 130 degree temp would pretty much suck real bad.
by mike on Oct 14, 2008 2:12 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
They shouldn’t send someone so creepy looking, he’ll give the troops night terrors and flashbacks to that freaky face for years to come.

this is the thing I respect the UFC most for. Although Dana White is the Bill Gates of mma, he takes care of a ton of charities.
