UFC Countdown 89 for 'Bisping vs. Leben' Spike TV debut tonight (Monday)

"UFC Countdown" to UFC 89: "Bisping vs. Leben" will debut on Spike TV tonight (Monday, October 13) at 11 p.m. ET to promote the upcoming show this weekend at The National Indoor Arena (NIA) in Birmingham, England, on October 18.
The hour-long special presentation will provide a glimpse into the preparation and training camps of the fighters set to headline the event, including main event participants Michael Bisping and Chris Leben.
Here’s the official description:
"Go behind the scenes as Michael 'The Count' Bisping and Chris 'The Crippler' Leben prepare for a middleweight championship battle."
Of course, we’ll also get to check out some footage of the camps for light heavyweights Brandon Vera and Keith Jardine -- a classic 205-pound match up between two dangerous strikers that has fireworks written all over it.
Keep in mind that the fight between Bisping and Leben is not a middleweight championship battle as described above; however, championship implications are likely on the line -- the winner could earn an opportunity to next challenge for the 185-pound world title.
Remember that MMAmania.com will provide all the coverage you can handle, including LIVE blow-by-blow UFC 89 results of the main card action on fight night ... be sure to come check us out.
For those who miss the "Countdown" to UFC 89 premier it will re-air on Thursday, October 16 at midnight ET and Saturday, October 18 at 6 p.m. ET.

Obviously, you didn’t read the whole article.
Finally this event is almost here. I feel like we have been waiting forever. Maybe because Bisbing and Leban were supposed to fight a while back. I always look forward to Saturday night with a UFC event, especially a free one!

I read the whole article. It isn’t for a championship so it shouldn’t say it is a championship battle.

Agreed, I always look forward to UFC events, especially the free ones. I’m not really a fan of either fighter but I know this should be a war. Having to pick the lesser of 2 evils I’ll be rooting for Bisping to beat Leben.
Anyone know if the 9 pm EST telecast will be a replay?

If it were live it would probably start at 3 pm EST since the fight is in England. The event will be tape delayed on Spike. So I won’t bother to check my computer all day Saturday.

The winner gets the honor of being killed by Anderson Silva. That would be the 2nd beating for Leben, and the first for Bisping, as neither has a prayer.

ONce Bisping loses this, it will be interesting to see if they still want him to coach TUF 8

Bisping will win so I don’t think it’ll be an issue

Even if Bisping does lose, what other UK based fighter is going to have enough appeal to coach TUF 8? Remember TUF is about ratings not just fights.

I am sure you won’t bother to watch it then…

That was funny… But you can’t seriously think that this card sucks. If you don’t like this card you are not a real fan. Tell me what televised fights suck on this card! This is an awesome event for free. It is only lacking a title fight, but who cares anyways. I for 1 am very excited about this event.

the thing is I am not interested in watching great fights, but in following the improvements of fighters I think can be someone, Davis vs Kelly will be a war, but after his last performance I lost faith in Davis and kelly is just a browler.
I Love chris lytle but he will never beat a great wrestler.. (hughes, koscheck, GSP).. Taylor’s ground game sucks..
sokoudjou needs 10 wins in a row to make me forget about his performance against machida… luis cane seems not powerful enough to have a real future..
so you see the 2 main events only are interesting to me, not to talk about the undercard.. where there is just carwin..
there you see why in my eyes this card suxs..:-)

no $hit. ufc 89 is better than any elitexc show this year by far. real mma fighters vs real mma fighters. who would think of something like that? too bad machida silva got scratched, or this card would be stacked.

Good Solid card….main event is going to one of those exciting fights that people talk about for a long time! I like both fighters but a Leben win doesn’t really do much for the division..who wants to see Leben Vs Anderson 2 ?

What it does do is make micheal bisping gate keeper.

i wouldnt mind seeing leben get andersoned again if you know what i mean. They should put that fight on spike tv again.

i think this fight has more in it than people see. Leben isnt a pushover and Bisbing seems to be the real deal too. Either of these guys has a better chance of beating Anderson than Cote, am i wrong? My pick is Leben!

Neil Wain looks very good with fast punches and elbows! the crowd will go insane if he beats Carwin. I think kelly and Taylor Etim can all win! one things for sure all the Brits have a tough fight this time would you agree?
by Tony on Oct 13, 2008 3:15 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Leben is going to hit Bisping harder than he’s ever been hit. If he survives the first and pushes Leben he will win. Leben’s got to not use his face as a human punching bag. Bisping doesn’t have more power but he could do some damage if he keeps landing one after another
by Spikemike on Oct 13, 2008 3:49 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
The Count has this fight, no doubt. Bisping will stay close and use the clinch and Leben will have nothing to do.
I don’t see it going anyother way.

With all the time leben trained at Team Quest i am sure he learned a thing or two about the clinch

i dont think ive seen leben do anything other than slug it out in every one of his fights… doubt this one will be any different
by brendan on Oct 13, 2008 6:04 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
He’s always been a slugger. But he also says that he has evolved. So we shall see…
by The Negation on Oct 13, 2008 6:25 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I hope Leben has evolved. It’ll make for a more exciting fight. Ya know?
