Intresting. He does work hard, I bet Sherk could go 25 rounds with someone, great conditioning.

id bet my own mother on it… just watch sherk/florian and sherk/franca

by brendan on Oct 13, 2008 7:14 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I don’t think anyone is questioning his cardio… i just don’t see him ever beating BJ, even with a better gameplan. And I honestly think Kenny could take him in a rematch.

by chris on Oct 13, 2008 7:21 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Nobody’s questioning his cardio, but I’m questioning how steroids affect his cardio…

by Syd[a.k.a."The Negation"] on Oct 13, 2008 7:48 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

The only way Florian beats Sherk is by doctor stoppage – which is possible. Sherk’s freakishly short neck and limbs make him nearly impossible to submit. He can be KOed – though it’s tough and I certainly don’t see it coming from Florian.

I also disagree with those that are arguing this kind of training is pointless. Sherk’s best skill isn’t his wrestling – it’s his power. There are better pure wrestlers in the 155 division – and guys with faster shots. Sherk is just so freakishly strong it makes him seem like a much more technical grappler. That power – especially maintaining it in the later rounds – is due to this kind of work ethic (or the interaction of this work ethic and a strong diet and/or supplements and/or steroids.)

Just makes you think and appreciate how good BJ really is

by Robert on Oct 14, 2008 9:27 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

yeah it really does.

by belfort_fan on Oct 14, 2008 1:50 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Impressive but pointless. He has insane cardio but he didn’t use it to wear down BJ with his trademark frantic pace and takedowns. He needed to do one thing in that fight and that was make BJ use up his improved (i.e 2 rounds worth of) cardio. He will beat tyson though.

by NameNotRequired on Oct 13, 2008 7:45 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I kinda agree. I think that for a long time now, he’s had enough cardio to go 5 rounds non-stop. But at some point, it becomes overkill. He’s not training for a triathlon. This is just perception, but he seems to focus more on strength-and-conditioning rather than the actual martial arts aspect of the game. If Sherk would round out his game more, maybe add some more kickboxing and BJJ training, he could be like a LW version of Rich Franklin.

by Pat on Oct 13, 2008 8:07 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yeah that would be great if he expanded his game outside of wrestling more. I think that he needs to practice with his boxing more. He has a quick punch, he just needs to figure out how to get inside and annihilate his opponent.

by RyanHobbs on Oct 13, 2008 8:14 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Pat, kickboxing for Sherk lol. Who is he gonna be able to kick with his two foot legs?

by halljam2 on Oct 13, 2008 10:03 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Look at Mark Hunt. He’s far from a lanky heavyweight but he can still get the job done.

by Pat on Oct 14, 2008 12:57 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

theres always a rematch!

by brendan on Oct 13, 2008 8:09 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

You know that’s simply because Sherk couldn’t take BJ down and if he keep shooting he would have taken a lot more punishment either shooting in or trying to back out… There’s no way that Sherk’s super cardio can wear BJ down with takedown attempts… BJ is so flexible and has such great balance that he really doesn’t exert a lot of energy defending takedowns, but he sure could inflict a lot of punishment when fighters try.

by THORAZINE on Oct 14, 2008 2:33 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I think Sherk can still get him down. I just think he was worried about his BJJ once he got him there.

by naturalshadow on Oct 14, 2008 2:50 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

he`s a freaking animal…cant wait to see him fight BJ again.. With a better gameplan,i feel he is one of the only guys at 155 that can beat him.

by texen_1 on Oct 13, 2008 7:09 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

lol yeah like don’t stand there and get punched in the face all night.

He is a freaking animal though. Ballistic training does wonders.

They must of cut out the hypodermic needle round. With that gay ass music playing you would think there was a dancing with glow sticks round too.

The commission’s testing methods suck balls. The same way they are accusing someone with acromalgy of taking drugs. It’s ridiculous.

by NameNotRequired on Oct 13, 2008 7:50 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

If youre talking about Bigfoot Silva, he had the tumor that was supposed to becausing the disease taken out a year ago. Plus he tested for Boldenone, a steroid used in animals. He’s pretty much guilty too.

by the_mexicutioner on Oct 13, 2008 7:54 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Taking drugs that would kill him vs erroneous test results. Let me see – he’s still alive so yea… The sad thing is the commission won’t ever admit fault.

by NameNotRequired on Oct 13, 2008 10:33 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

no the sad thing is that Sean Sherk did take steroids and if you want proof just look at him and his fight against Franca, he carried him across the octagon in the 5th round and stuff.. you need to face the facts that the fighters over in Japan takes steroids and other stuff, the fighters in the UFC back in the day did it and still today some do it and sometimes gets caught in the tests..

by RoB on Oct 13, 2008 10:54 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Then why hasnt he ever popped positive until now?

by the_mexicutioner on Oct 13, 2008 10:56 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

exactly..

Sean Sherks phisique and incredile endurance is from one thing and one thing only HARD WORK he practically lives in the gym He never thought about or took steroids if anything he had tainted supplement with out his knowledge

I dont relly care for sherk but I can tell he works harder than most fighters and I will be rooting for him for the first time I hope he kicks griffins ass.

he has to know that fans dont like him much because of his boring style and his fights practically always go to the judges not only does he need the win he needs a stoppage

by dia mette on Oct 14, 2008 1:54 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I think Sherk could carry Franca across the ring in the 5th everytime they would fight. Sherk is still fresh in 5 rounds, when no one else is.

by naturalshadow on Oct 14, 2008 2:53 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

yea right, i don’t think so.. it’s pretty obvious IMO that he took steroids, look at all the 100m sprinters and also Marion Jones did it for all those years and finally she got caught

by RoB on Oct 14, 2008 7:17 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

He weighs in at 155 lbs. the day before the fight. Even at his height, that really isn’t very big. He is just extremely muscular due to being so lean.

Sherks cardio is sick.

by Fidel Cashflow on Oct 13, 2008 7:38 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Did you see the fight between Frankie Edgar and Tyson Griffin? Sherks wrestling should be better than Frankies. Shouldn’t it?

by RyanHobbs on Oct 13, 2008 8:19 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

yeah definitely… hes much stronger than frankie also

I like how people say that Sherk should have used his wrestling against BJ yet they complain that the wrestling is boring.

by RyanHobbs on Oct 13, 2008 8:07 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

well it may be boring but its definitely his strong point and what he should have done… BJ may say his cardio is improved but he still hasnt been pushed in a while and i have to see it to believe it, i thought sherk would be able to grind him out as long as he could avoid submissions in the first and second

by brendan on Oct 13, 2008 8:29 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I agree. I have trouble believing that BJ’s cardio is that great nowadays. I am sure that it would not come close to Sean Sherks. Sean should have taken him down and tried to work him into the later rounds. Then he should have tried to box BJ from the 3rd round on. He wanted to box BJ and that would have been his chance to do so and to do so effectively.

by RyanHobbs on Oct 13, 2008 8:35 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I hope Sherk wins, he really deserves another shot with Penn or a possible rematch with Kenny (or matchup with Stevenson)

caveman training is like, a normal workout for sean sherk and the guys up there. my instructor at the gym i used to go to got his license to use “Caveman” training, and its hard, but its do able. every day was like a small caveman workout, then some other days it was the first thing we did, then the kickboxing and jitsu for the rest of the time.

by sinister on Oct 13, 2008 10:38 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

of course, our stuff wasn’t nearly half as hard as this shit.. and i think me and sean have the same kind of shoes! are those nike jetstreams? lol

by sinister on Oct 13, 2008 10:46 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I do think Sherk has the tools to defeat BJ. It sucks to see such a good guy and a great fighter be plagued by such short arms. He threw some great looking strikes and combos at 84 but they just couldn’t reach BJ. I think any fighter finds it tough to deal with a guy that he doesn’t know is going to stand or shoot. That’s why I think Sherk has a chance to beat Penn. If he could implement a gameplan that included some more takedowns, even if he didn’t get one, he could keep BJ guessing. I wished he would have done that the first time. Even if he didn’t shoot I wish he would have faked a shot or two and looked to land some strikes from there.

Final thought from a guy who has Sean Sherk listed as his favorite fighter – Sean Sherk, length for length, a better fighter than BJ Penn. Think about it. lol

by XYZman on Oct 13, 2008 11:02 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

“Sean Sherk, length for length, a better fighter than BJ Penn. Think about it. lol”

No. That would only make Sherk MAYBE as good as Penn on the feet. It won’t help him take down BJ or work BJ on the ground. BJ’s TD defence > Sherk’s TD’s and BJ’s BJJ >>> Sherk’s groundwork/BJJ.

Besides, Sherk should have known to get into better range before firing punches at BJ. That’s what a lot of fighters with shorter reach do. You’re not gonna Chuck Liddell someone if you’re shorter in length.

sean sherk is gonna die training.. fuckin ridiculous

by Tsunami Bong on Oct 13, 2008 11:36 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Sherk is a pretty good boxer if he had longer arms he wouldve probably KO’d Penn. His boxing seemed good but he constantly fell short of Penn’s face as many have said he shouldve just wore BJ out something he is more then capable of doing. Anyways he needs to just go train some krazzzzy kicks or someshit unless he wants to continue laying and humping people.

He looks less ripped and is smaller in size after quitting his juice or minimizing it.

by Joe Doe on Oct 14, 2008 3:00 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

He needs to realize, just like houston alexander, that its not about how hard you hit or strong you are, its about how good you can fight. And I dont think anyone here can honestly say…“Sherk is a good fighter”. No… hes a hard tough worker. Until he becomes a good fighter he will never move into legendary status. Just ask Penn how good he was.

by Gregorio on Oct 14, 2008 8:58 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

^wtf

I guess it depends what you want to see. If you want to see two guys “fight” then perhaps you may think that Sherk isn’t as good of a fighter as the only guys he’s lost to like Penn, Pierre, and Hughes. Personally, I like to watch mixed martial artists in mixed martial arts competitions. And I don’t think anyone can honestly say that Sherk is not a good mixed martial artist.

Ask Penn? Don’t be a dick. Ask Penn how he would like to fight a Sean Sherk with longer arms.
