goran relic is not longer able to compete due to a back injury and at this point there is no replacement announce personally i could care less if this fight is scrapped as long as maynard vs. clementi is moved to the main card

I agree with you completely. This is probably the second most exciting fight on the card for me behind the Alves and Dirty Sanchez fight.

>Silva
>Alves
>Dos Santos
>Sherk
>Clementi
These are tough ones to pick. My only sure thing is Silva, obviously.

completely agree, leites is a soft fighter and will never challenge for the mw title. Maynard vs clementi should be on the main card. it will prob be fight of the night, both are great fighters.

That fight wasnt to showcase Leites. It was to showcase Reljic. He is one bad dude.

For sure it has the makings of fight of the night! They better televise the Clamenti/Mayard fight!

I am kind of interested in seeing Franca vs. Aurelio myself. Both are talented and may threaten for a title shot sooner than anyone else on the under card.
by naturalshadow on Oct 13, 2008 8:39 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Franca is punch drunkingly sloppy, he is not fast but seemingly numb. Other than his hairstyles, there is not much colorful left about him. He has been in the game a loooong time. When it came time for him to get his title shot, he lost. Yes he is a tough dude, but not the exciting fighter I would like to see headlined.
With all due respect, He has a loooooooong way to go to get near a title shot again.

yeah he should vs nate or martin kampman again or okami
by markg on Oct 12, 2008 7:49 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Okami would be best imho but isn’t he still recovering from his injury otherwise he would of being facing Silva. And also am I the only one that thinks Nate has no one to blame but himself for the Leites loss. Yes the back of the head call was wrong but it at least it made up for the spike later on. Nate may have dominated but you can’t be kneeing downed opponents in the face or trying to spike them on their heads. So the loss is justified, he didn’t ge robbed.

if thiago can keep it standing im gonna take him. anybody know the betting line on that fight yet?
I’m taking maynard to beat clementi, grays wrestling is sick and never bet against a xtreme couture guy.
by bobby o'shea on Oct 12, 2008 8:02 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
my picks are:
Cote: via ko round 5
Alves: via unamious decision (cant see dirty taking him down or being able to strike with him)
Werdum: via round 1 submission
Sherk: via split decision in a super fast past fight
Maynard: via decision by way of being the stronger more athletic fighter
Fisher: via tko because i know nothing about the other guy
Franca: via split decision i think their ground games will cancel out and it will come down to who has the better stand up
Miller: via 3rd round submission
Burkman: via decision as sell is a tough guy but cant seem to win on the big stage

by bobby o'shea on Oct 12, 2008 7:58 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
it might be do or die for both of them, as burkman has lost his last to fights and has proven he is nothing more than a lowlevel gatekeeper.

What a great card, from top to bottom. The worst fight may-be the Main Event. Looking forward to this one.

i was thinking the exact same thing. this is a great card from top to bottom, except the main might/will be a mis-match. maybee cote can surprise us all……. and make it to the 3rd rnd. thats says alot about silva, he’s never been past the 2nd rnd in his whole ufc career. thats insane!
by b.w. on Oct 12, 2008 8:32 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I think they should get rid of Thales Leites for the main card because he is really boring and not a contender IMO. They should either bump up Rich Clementi vs. Gray Maynard or they should use Pete Sell vs. Josh Burkman

Ummm, how about “no” = ) They have enough money to support themselves for a loooong time. Besides dude, i only do this on UFC’s that are too rediculous to buy. Be mad at me, i dont care, "anyone who buys this pay per view with the thoughts that the main event will last any loger than the Silva/Irwin fight is an idiot and probably broke more often then not.
by ( (Adam G) ) on Oct 25, 2008 9:59 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Hey idiot, the fight lasted WAY longer than the Irvin fight. Just like you went on about Sherk not making it past the first round with BJ, wrong again. Before you even think of responding, go and read all my posts regarding the Silva-Cote fight. I gave all the right reasons why Cote would do better than anyone else. Silva CAN’T hurt Cote. Your probably one of the ones who think Cote is just like Leben. Cote went into the 3rd and looked just as pretty as he did at the start and Leben lasted 90 SECONDS. Cote is a well rounded, SMART fighter and it’s about time people give him the respect he deserves. If all 7 of them had a rematch, my money is on Cote. Oh and I’m a LONG way from broke big G.

Hehe, hoping is more like it.
I personally think Cote has class, plus he’s a Canadian which is synonymous with class.
Then there’s the entire “Bored watching Silva destroy people” thing. I would like to see him dethroned so the division gets interesting again. Can you imagine the lineup? All the guys too scared to fight Silva suddenly clamoring for a title shot again. Then a mean Silva coming up the ranks to get a hold of whomever holds the title when he gets his shot!
Drama, it would be great.

i can think of a few fighters at 185 that have a good chance of beating him:
Okami
Maia
jason mcdonald
by salatious on Oct 25, 2008 10:23 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Jason McDonald seriously? What are you smoking. Maia has good jits but he would get taken apart in the stand up and find it hard to get Silva down, maybe Maia in a few years not now. And Okami is good but Silva is better in every single aspect.
by Macho Bullshit on Oct 25, 2008 10:47 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
But he might loose to Okami as most of his four losses were incurred by Japanese average fighters, but you won’t beat the Spider if you don’ t have way extra imagination and may be a new unhread-of move such as ‘flying frog’ or ‘crowching squirrel’==just coined :)

Cote’s not getting KOed by anyone. He has the BEST chin in MMA. He hasn’t even been rocked and he took Silva’s kicks, knees and punches. They were flush shots too.
Werdum underestimated Dos Santos and came in as a fat (SLOW)slob. I think Dos Santos will do good. He’s beaten mostly cans, but they were all 1st round subs or T(KO).

Anderson Silva did not take this fight seriously, and he shouldn’t have. What a rediculous match up! Patrick Cote is weak, and nobady wants to fight someone who has nothing to lose and might pull off an upset. Anderson needs to be in SUPER fights, Dana needs to think outside the box. If you do not respect your opponent then you will not train hard or have that killer instint, which Anderson clearly did not have in this fight. Cote’s brain told his ACL to tear to save his face.
by matt on Oct 26, 2008 12:53 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
true but lets not be naive here, the reason why Cote blew his ACL was Silva was working his leg pretty bad. Cote said himself that it was a prior injury and Silva just brought it back to light because of the kicks.
by Anthony on Oct 26, 2008 12:56 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
it’s “ridiculous”, and Cote proved his toughness. He took hard shots and kept coming forward and trying to be exciting. It was a bit boring, but at least he didn’t get destroyed like the ENTIRE WORLD expected.
by MTL MMA on Oct 26, 2008 1:02 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
It comments like this that show who DOESN’T have a clue about MMA. Silva took this fight VERY seriously and if you can’t see the respect he has for Cote, you are blind. Anderson did the same flury of punches, kicks and knees that he always does. Cote was just able to eat everything he through and still smile and fire back. If you gave Cote the credit he deserves, then you would realize why Silva was more apprehensive in this fight. Silva knew dam well if he made a mistake,it would be him getting KTFO.

i am amazed that silva played so much. he wasn’t even fighting at 50%! And because of that, we didn’t get to see an insane 1st round knockout. if he applied himself, he would have 100% gotten it. cote didn’t last till the 3rd round because he was good. cote lasted because silva LET him. it is plain to see this.
by wow on Oct 26, 2008 12:57 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
yeah, I mean, what did Cote even land the entire fight? like three legs kicks and a couple jabs? Silva worked him but you gotta give Cote’s chin some credit, that dude can withstand some serious shots.
by Anthony on Oct 26, 2008 1:13 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Here we go, just as I expected. All the stupid excuses will come out, why Silva COULDN’T put Cote away in the 1st round. Why can’t people accept the truth, Cote is a warrior (with skills) and a chin of GRANITE, that makes it a harder fight for Silva, than his previous opponents.

tc, I think because the GSP/Penn fight isn’t until late Jan. (basically Feb.), Silva has the time to fight again at 205 say in December before perhaps taking that matchup.
I personally hope that Dana gives Alves a title shot before the GSP/Silva fight goes down though. Alves completely deserves it and shouldn’t be sitting on the fence until say June or July for a title fight.

4 months out? His kneww is done. 6-12 months for sure.
Disappointing but what can you do? Cote wasn’t super aggressive and anderson wanted to counter against him.
Tough to fight a no one with nada to lose, anderson didn’t want to go in and get crazy because Cote has respectable power.
Tyson vs Sherk was good. Should have at LEAST gone split decision (30-27? No way possible.)
Gray Manard looks sharp at 155 and prob would have worked sherk. Decent night for fights.
Alves, although I rooted against him, looked very sharp and DOES deserve a title shot against GSP. Those leg kicks are BRUTAL. His knees are brutal. I don’t see how anyone can stand up with this guy at 170, I guess GSP can but he is amazing with those leg kicks.
Kos might have been better if he didn’t take a fight on 2 weeks. Can’t do that against tough opponents, more respect please Josh… 2 weeks to prepare to fight a champion level opponent? come on.

I myself was completly impresses by the performances tonight. i really though Tyson had the tools to beat sherk but sherks “boxing” and stamina proved to be more valuable than tyson’s high pace…too bad he forgot sherk is the master of high pace! samthig with alves it thought it was going to be close fight. difference was i thought Kos was going to be the one to dictate the fight with his decent stand up and awesome wrestling..Alves showed some crazy takedown defense. GSP should have a good fight with him but not a win for alves. Alves neede to make a big statement out of Kos. he made some heads turn tonite tho. NOW for Cote…wow..it was a lil slow but for all the right reasons. cote finally proved his worth tonite. went 3 rounds with silva and took his best shots he wasnt worse for the wear or anything he got hurt once when he caught that knee but he shook it off and put silva in a very peculiar place….couldnt really find an opening alot of you are mistaking silva’s actions as showboating…i think its either becuz you are hating or uneducated. Silva was doing his weird dance…to distract Cote. he was finding it very hard to get into any rhythm or bait cote into a mistake he could capitalize in. very unfortunate for both guys that cote got hurt. Cote has got my respect and i hold silva in even higher regard after he tried to keep the unkind and ignorant crowd of chicago from booing cote. i would love to see cote get his rematch. if anything this looked like 5 round technical fight.

I was there tonight. My first live event. Yeah, the last fight was a drag, but it was very cool being there in person. Several fighters came up into the upper deck, just to sign autographs. Spencer Fisher was up there walking around about 30 minutes after his fight. I’m a huge silva fan, but the crowd was giving him a real hard time for all of his antics. Good Night Of Fights Sucks About The Cote Injury
But He Did Better Than Everything Silva Was The Least Active
I’ve Ever Seen Him, He Didnt Wanna Get Caught By Cote Cause He Would Be Dropped..Only One Good Exchange I Think..Just Lots Of Running From Silva..Too Much Showboating For Not Even Doing That Well..I Call Dos Santos To Win Good Job…Tyson Looked Really Good I Think He Landed The Better Power Shots..

Just so you know this type of thing NEVER happens in the UFC. I was a bit puzzled with Silva’s performance tonight. He clearly was the better striker for the few brief exchanges but he wasn’t very aggressive. Yes, he was ‘feeling him out’…but geez, that shouldn’t take two rounds. He looked bored. I feel he could have easily put Cote away in the 1st or 2nd if he engaged more. Hopefully, he makes up for this in his next fight.
by MMA fanatic on Oct 26, 2008 3:28 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
This was the second worst card which will become the third worst after UFC 91. Silva was playing with Cote….end of story. He did not last 3 rounds based on skill – I’m pretty sure Dan Henderson and Rich Franklin have more skill than Cote (I’m not knocking him however the previous 3 are in a different league).
Speaking about UFC 91, how can Brock Loser get a title shot on just his 3rd MMA fight with a 1-1 record? He must be swallowing Dana’s junk for that to happen. Frank Mir would have been a better fight against Couture. Realistically, there are no heavyweights I want to watch right now – too boring (with the exception of Couture).
Also, if Liddell is given another title shot, I’m going to puke. He is done, just like Hughes is done.

Cote never connected, Cote Bled, Silva blocked everything,
Cote woke up with sore ribs, Silva won all three rounds, Silva was bored, Cote did not deserve to fight Silva, Cote’s body could not withstand the intense training, Cote is French speaking and gay, Silva woke up today more refreshed as if he just sparred with an ametuer. NO REMATCH!
