I gotta hand it to Anderson Silva and GSP, they approach fights with a lot of class and from realistic perspectives when talking about their opponents, it’s going to be hard to catch either one of the guys in an off night anymore, they’re way to wise for that.
by THORAZINE on Oct 10, 2008 1:23 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
I’m with you Thorazine, Silva has so much class, I used to not like him becuase he dominated one of my favorite fighters (Franklin) Twice. But he’s a great Fighter and Champian, and I love how humble he comes to fight and is never negative about his opponents. I respect him and Cote, I just don’t see how Cote can win this. But it’s going to be a great stand up fight (hopefully) and the last live fight that I get to see before I leave for bootcamp. War Silva and Cote!!!!!!!!!

I joined the Air Force (I’m 19) so thats why I’m going hah, I’m leaving Oct. 28th, I’m going to miss so much MMA,I can’t wait to hear about who won the Couture/Lesnar fight when I get back, and I’m hoping my Favorite (Koscheck) beats Yoshida also, anyway, thanks for asking Ryan.

bootcamp, airforce probably has direct tv and ice cream for all of you guys. airforce bootcamp.

First of all silva is a machine, anyone who can kick the shit out of that many different kind of world class fighters while never getting in any kind of trouble is amazing. As for the air force bootcamp thing, although im glad you will become a military brother, you shouldnt be nervous about going to bootcamp bc all your going to do is sit around and play with your pecker for 2 months. You should join the marines if you want to learn something about the military. GOOD LUCK BOOT!

anderson is the mof’in MAN!!!! Pure class! It has truly been a pleasure following Anderson’s Mma career since the beginning. I even really enjoyed his muy tai fights as well!
I like Cote, he stepped up to fight Tito as a new commer on short notice and he is a respectful kid, with heart that likes to Bang, but if you are looking for me to pick against the spider, you got another ting coming!
Silva via KO within the 1st 2 rounds! Whats new? lol

Hey Chase, I remember you hating on Anderson a while back so it’s great you’ve changed your attitude toward him…

Yeah I’ve learned to respect him and his skills, he’s just to sharp.

I total agree, the spider and St. pierre are wise fighters and it seems as if they measure themselves up against ever fighter and then strike at such a relentless pace. Pd. for Pd. they are far better than the field out there, but lets don’t over look BJ Penn. BJ has great skills all the way around the cage.

the spider needs to be fighting guys like liddell!!!!!
this is a formality!!
by mo on Oct 10, 2008 1:25 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
liddell? silva would take liddell apart.
i think chucks best days are behind him.

Chuck is always dangerous. He did look bad in his last fight, but everyone said he was done after he lost to Jardine. The Chuck that I saw come back and fight Wandy was maybe the best that I have seen. I think if Chuck can get his head on straight, he can make one more great run before hanging them up.
by naturalshadow on Oct 10, 2008 4:14 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
In the words of Wanderlei about chuck’s power – “He no have hands for to nokaut me.” A. Silva would rip him apart. (Btw i didn’t join this bandwagon after the rashad knockout, i’ve always thought that)
by NameNotRequired on Oct 10, 2008 2:17 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
im a huge liddell fan but i agree…his best is in the past. silva would tune chuck up real quick. i’d like to see silva(after he beats cote) fight the winner of vera vs. jardine.
by allamerican on Oct 10, 2008 8:35 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Styles make fights and I agree that Silva vs. Vera would be a very entertaining fight but I think Silva would murder Jardine.
by brac on Oct 10, 2008 9:19 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Yeah right, Cote stands a better chance. At least Cote doesn’t have a glass jaw and he keeps his hands UP. Also with all of Liddell’s recent losses, his confidence will be no where near Cotes.
by Gord on Oct 10, 2008 1:50 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Glass jaw? He stood toe to toe with Wanderlie Silva for 3 rounds and won. Getting TKO’d by Rampage and getting knocked out by a devastating punch from Rashad doesn’t constitute a glass jaw.
by RyanHobbs on Oct 10, 2008 3:30 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
OK, let me rephrase that. Chuck’s 1-3 in his last 4 fights. He’s been KOed in 2 of them. He doesn’t keep his hands up so he will continue to get KOed. SAME end result as a glass jaw, he gets KTFO.
by Gord on Oct 13, 2008 1:45 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Chuck has a glass jaw? Obviously you just started watching mma in the last 4 months.
by naturalshadow on Oct 10, 2008 4:15 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
i’m still a big fan of chuck’s and as for you people saying he has a glass, who has knocked him out, rampage and evans, anyone who caught that hook of rampage would have been out and that overhand by evans was just crazy, that would have killed some people, i’m supprised he got up at all, lol. fact is in that fight he had no respect for evans’ hands and thought he would just walk through him, personally i’d like to see a rematch and see how differently it would go and it’s not because i’m bitter that he lost or anything i just think it would go differently. As for this fight I can just see cote winning for some reason, i know the chance of it happening is small and although i am a fan of silva i hope cote does win, the middleweight devision needs some change, i think it would shake things up a bit if cote did win and i don’t think he’d hold the belt long so i could be quite eventfull for a few months in a devsion that could benifit from some change.
I’m picking cote by TKO rd3
as for if liddell vs A.silva ever happened, you’ve got to go with silva, he is just to hard to hit and could probably just pick liddell apart.

notice silva mentions 1st round and also says he will only hit him a few times some what implying that he will make short time of this; scary for cote. Im going against the grain since noboby will…though i have a smirk as im writing this but cote upset round 2 lol.
well, im am hoping some feathers get ruffled in that division plus i am prob one of the very few who even though i respect anderson as a fighter, i think hes at a point in his career where he needs to step it up and call himself out for a mega fight against the axe murderer, machida, rua, quinton or hungry lidell next!! hes just too big for his opponents, its like lidell taking on a marquardt size fighter. i for one has been hoping for a match against any of the mentioned for quite some time!!

that would be a dream match for me, A.silva vs rampage, that would be unbelivable, rampage would be so hard to knockout and i could imagine a 5 round war.
I really hope that fight happens at some point

I’ve been calling on the Cote KO Round 2 for a while as well. It pretty much for the same reason: I want the division to get switched up and actually competitive. Anderson should move up permanently to LHW if he loses this fight. Or if he wins. Shit, I’d actually like to see him fight Hendo again, make that at 205. Just cuz.
by sinister on Oct 10, 2008 7:54 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
He won’t move up to LHW permanately because Machida owns that division and they are good friends and training partners. It is a matter of time before that Team owns the HW, LHW and MW division belts.

I met Anderson Silva. He was at the Elite xc event that had KJ Noons fighting Yves Edwards. He’s a classy guy and very humble.

chuck in my opinion is the one guy out there who could cause anderson a lot of problems!! granted his best days may be behind him, and yes anderson may well pick him apart. However he has never faced a guy with power liddell has, and liddell also offers a strange style to deal with, it would be a stand up fight and i dont see chuck making the same mistakes as he has against rampage/evans again!!!
You cant say you wouldnt like to see it??!!!!!!!!!
by mo on Oct 10, 2008 1:44 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
i completely agree with you. and keep in mind i have never been a fan of lidell for one reason or another but i also belive lidell would be a perfect match for anderson!
by blah. anything can/and will happen in MMA on Oct 10, 2008 1:50 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I would like to see it, but Lidell would get KTFO unless he learns to keep his hands up.
by Chase on Oct 10, 2008 2:13 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Hendo was power and Silva dealt with him. Hendo finished Wandy and Chuck couldn’t. Silva would pick Chuck apart.
Chuck is now on the downslope of his career, his better days are behind him. Silva is reaching the peak of his career.
by UKmmaBOY on Oct 10, 2008 9:37 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
You can’t compare MMa fighters by who they beat. Look at the names Jardine has beat and he would get his face smashed in by Silva. Some styles match up better. No doubt Hendo had the best performance against Silva to date. He actually prolly won the first round. But I also think the only two people in the entire MMA community who are LHW or below that can beat Silva are Forrest and Machida. The only reason I think those two are it is because they are the only two fighters who have the patience to sit back and pick Anderson apart. Everyone else just wants to try and knock him out and the problem with that is you gotta catch him first and hes freaking fast
by sp00ner1234 on Oct 10, 2008 12:14 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I was comparing that Hendo has power, mo said that Silva had never faced anyone with power. Wasn’t doing MMA maths. Agree with Machida but don’t think Forrest would have the Chin to last 5 rounds with Silva being as accurate & powerful as Silva is.
by UKmmaBOY on Oct 10, 2008 12:35 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
If cote wins it will be more then likely round 1 via tko/ko. More then likely Anderson will win doh and it will be via tko/ko round one.
by Khaos_Warrior on Oct 10, 2008 1:52 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
power doesn’t matter when a fighter faces anderson silva, he would knock out liddell just like rashad evans did. a striker will not beat anderson silva period, he is the best in the game when it comes to striking. the closest he has come to losing in my opinion was dan henderson, he had a perfect game plan up until he got hit with a perfect knee by silva, that and his conditioning was out the window right before he got knocked down and choked out. a guy like cote is going into that cage to land a lucky punch thats it, granted that is all it takes… but silva is just to damn good to leave himself open for a lucky punch. i would not be suprised if cote runs out of gas just trying to go for that homerun. just like frank trigg said, you have to keep the fight close and inside, but again silva is so good that you’ll be picking your poison… muy thai clinch, striking, submission.. you name it. i really want to see henderson vs silva 2, no one in the middle weight division comes close to threatening silva besides henderson. i’m sure henderson will grind out a victory against franklin, thats gonna be a good one.

James Irvin tried out his Muay Thai with Silva and got destroyed. His training was spent mostly at Fairtax where he tried to tune his stand-up game. However, the low kick he threw was caught by Silva and everyone knows the rest.
Personally I think it’ll be a boxing fight from Cote – limited low kicks and counter-punching – you would rather capitalize on Silva’s mistake rather than your own. If Patrick pulls it off it will be a BIGGER upset than Serra vs. GSP.
And also Liddell against Silva. If Rashad Evans can land a huge overhand right against him I just can’t think how devastating Silva will be… He should really keep his hands up – that style is over and done with and is now a hole in his game. ALSO Evan’s and his camp noticed that he kept his head up when he throws an upper-cut… hands down, chin up = lights out!
But out of all of this the reason why many extreme underdogs win is because of CONFIDENCE. Hopefully with Cote it’s very real! And if he does … UFC enter number in Montreal will be HUGE – GSP hopefully will be champ as well as Cote!

I got nothing but respect for Silva, but you have to think that he’s cost himself sooo much $$$ b/c he cant speak english. Even though he is the best figher in the world, he’s not a strong ppv draw compared to other champs or fighters. He would have been a coach on tuf and had sooo many endorsements by now if he could break that language barrier.
Regardless, he’s the best fighter in the world and will probably destroy Cote in the first round, unless he somehow undertrained for this fight and took him lightly, or Cote connects with a strong shot early, since Sivla likes to take his time and feel out his opponents.
by bobby o'shea on Oct 10, 2008 6:26 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Do you think that its ignorance that he isn’t a main draw because English isn’t his first language? I have noticed many times bloggers complain because the fighter doesn’t have a grasp of English. In Japan products are endorsed by celebs with subtitles, what would be in the difference in the U.S?
by UKmmaBOY on Oct 10, 2008 9:44 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
UK,
Subtitles just don’t work here in the US. There are some great movies out there that, because they were subtitled just didn’t fair well at all. The only notable exception, Il Postino.
That being said Anderson is a huge draw among my group of friends. One of us always purchases a PPV with Anderson.
by Jeff on Oct 10, 2008 11:33 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Yeah you have to be retarded to think not speaking English well is why Silva isn’t the biggest draw in the UFC. The one and only reason is because he mauls every single opponent he goes against. it gets old watching someone just annihiliate everyone else. However, I do think that the only two people in the UFC and maybe all of MMA that can beat Silva are machida and Griffin. Why? you ask.. the only two people patient enough to sit back and pick him apart. He betrays very few flaws in his fighting but he does have them. He can be taken down. And his legs are weak(see Ryo Chonan, Travis Lutter, and Dan Henderson fights. Forrest and Lyota can both exploit that. however… Kimbo slice is gay and should be thrown out of MMA and ridiculed for life. good on him for getitng his paycheck though
by sp00ner1234 on Oct 10, 2008 1:02 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
WTF spOOner1234? The fact that he is knocking MOFO out left right and centre is THE reason he should be the main draw. Liddel was doing exactly the same & fans were all over his nuts but cos he could shout fans out after he is more popular
If fans cant grasp the fact the language he speaks isn’t important they are fools. He talks with his fists, elbows & feet. It take it that you wouldnt watch Japanese MMA as they dont speak English either.??

I love Anderson Silva this fight, but Cote has been trainng out of Greg Jackson’s Camp, correct? Jackson fighters have been as golden as they come lately, upsetting and winning some big fights…So if I am right on this then maybe there is an upset looming in the disance. Far in the distance but there none the less. I have been a huge Silva fan since watching him during his Cage RAge Days, the icing on that cake obviously being the standing elbow KO of Fryklund, just before coming to the UFC. Anderson in my opinion should have the fight with general ease, but there is always the Anything can happen in MMA rule.

for someone whos such a quiet, soft spoken guy hes one bad son of a bitch in the cage. no disrespect to cote but i say silva 2nd round tko. all it takes is silva to catch you once and then you got 20 strikes following until the ref stops him. joe…i gotta say, i strongly disagree!!!

I don’t speak Portuguese, but I do speak Spanish, and noticed that his last line is mistranslated… The subs say:
“I prefer not to talk so much, I prefer to just go in there and do my job and come out being the champion.”
But he actually said:
“…I prefer to just go in there and do my job, regardless of if I win or I lose.”
by ARodOfIron on Oct 10, 2008 8:38 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
yeah, there are a bunch of things they did not translate accurately, but in general they kept his ‘statement’ true. I’m translating everything he said literally here if anyone is curious:
FIRST STATEMENT:
I think it’s going to be fun if he really decides to keep the fight standing, it’s going to be fun. He’s going to hit me a few times and I’ll hit him a few times… It’s going to be fun.
SECOND STATEMENT:
Well, there is always something that we can take advantage of, just like he might have found something to take advantage from myself. But we are training, and I am very confident that I can bring another victory to Brazil.
THIRD STATEMENT:
I believe we always have to be confident… right there, focused, always believing in the probability that you’ll end up winning. It’s always like that, I am also focusing the same way, the only difference is that he may end up being knocked out in the first round, or submitted in the first round. But having confidence is a good thing, confidence is something all fighters should have. He may win, if not I will win and will continue to be the champ. But I rather not talk much, just go out there and do my job as I always do regardless of a win or a loss.
by linx on Oct 10, 2008 9:46 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
This translation is completely wrong. I’ll try to post the correct translation here as soon as i can.

That’s exactly why I wanted to clear that up… The subs make him seem more of a badass than anything, but he’s actually a very humble and down-to-earth guy. Part of his success is that he keeps a very cool head, IMO.

Has anyone ever calculated Silva’s thrown to landed ratio? I’ve counted most of his fights (in the UFC) and he’s pretty fricking high. For instance in the Leben fight Silva threw 23 shots and landed 22, I think the Irvin fight was 9 of 9. I am pretty sure Rich’s first surgery appt. was in the high 80%. In my opinion that’s what makes Silva so dangerous, if he’s throwin’ its because he knows he’s landing.
