Patrick Cote video on preparation for Anderson Silva UFC 90 fight
MMACanada.net recently caught up with Patrick Cote in Montreal, Quebec, while he was in the midst of preparing for his middleweight title fight against Anderson "The Spider" Silva at UFC 90: "Silva vs. Cote" at the Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Ill., on October 25.
Shortly after this video was taken, which shows "The Predator" sparring and a brief behind the scenes look into his preparations for the biggest fight of his career, Cote headed down to Boston to train with Mark DellaGrotte at the famed Sityodtong gym.
After watching Anderson Silva dismantle a "who’s who" of the middleweight division last night on Spike TV’s "UFC Unleashed," Cote is going to have his hands full with the Brazilian.
Regardless of how heavy the odds favor the best ‘pound for pound fighter’, Cote is confident leading up to October 25.
Check out his thoughts right here.

I don’t know who that guy was that Cote was practicing his standup with, but he mimic Anderson Silva extremely well and that confirms to me why Cote is going to get KTFO.

Ok, Canibal just explain why Cote is going to win.. because if the impossible happens you’ll look like a genius.

1. no one is unbeatable
2. no matter how humble a person is when people keep calling you the best in the world and unbeatable it will eventually go to your head (Tyson)
3. people keep saying the best person to beat the spider is a dude with a good ground game, i disagree, he’s proven in convincing fashion his ground game is not his weak point as we once thought. The person most likely to beat him is a dude who can take a beating and has K.O. power (when was the last time Cote was K.O.’d, see Mcfedries fight for his power.
4. The spider will fight where his opponent chooses to fight him, so even though he could take Cote down and submit him in a second he will trade with him. Anderson is obviously the more skilled striker but all it takes is one and he does have a tendency to mock his opponents and take their stand-up lightly.
obviously i’m going out on a limb here but as soon as people start talking about how impossible it is and how it’s a waste of time to even have the fight is when shit like this happens.
in his las few championship fights people were saying is this the guy that’s gonna do it, so and so has the best chance (hendo, lutter, marquardt) and they got handled, now people are saying Cote is definitely not the guy, he has no chance. I think it makes perfect sense that it would be him, this is the UFC (Liddell, Sylvia, GSP, Shogun, Crocop, Rampage) it happens when you least suspect it

let the cote bashing begin. i like cote. he seems like a very nice, very cool dude. he is a pretty exciting fighter and has a ton of heart, but he has the dubious task of fighting the best fighter on the planet. he’s not gonna beat a.silva (but who can at mw?) but i would be happy to see him give silva a little bit of a tussle and make it into the 3rd or dare i say 4rth rnd. i know thats just wishful thinking though.

well mex…right now its 1-0 Fighting Phils babay! If we win game 2 today, we will be in the world series!

b.w., Cote is a great guy and I have rooted for him in every one of his fights, except Leban, but in my mind I know he is going to meet the same fate, if not worse, than all the other MW’s in the UFC. I don’t want to get emotionally attached to this fight. I just want to see Anderson pull some amazing Muy Thai out of his a**!

i know, i know. cote is gonna get wrecked, i would just like to see someone give him a competative fight at least. if silva blows through cote in 1 rnd i think he should move up to lhw permanantly or wait and fight the gsp/bj winner at mw not a catch weight like dana has suggested.
by b.w. on Oct 9, 2008 5:24 PM EDT up reply actions
LHW is where it’s at for Silva… There are at least 4 mega fights and some other main events for sure. Wanderlie, Rampage, Forrest, Chuck (maybe), Thiago, Rashad (I guess), Vera…

Now this would be a Rocky story if Cote would get an upset. Too bad this is reality. Cote is gona get f*cked up!!!

I’m with you b.w., I like Cote and will obviously be supporting my fellow Canadian in this fight. On the other hand, as an MMA fan I absolutely love Silva and his patented “ballet of violence”. Now, I realize Cote’s likely going to get completely owned (in fact, watching the Marquart fight the other day, actually had me a little scared for Patrick) but I would really like to see him make this a competitive fight. Unfortunately, I also have no idea how he might actually pull that off. I think I’m looking at being a little sad no matter what happens in this fight, so I really hope it’s at least an exciting fight that makes it into the later rounds. I don’t know, maybe a freak loss to Cote would have Anderson reconsider this retirement talk.
by Canucklehead on Oct 9, 2008 7:13 PM EDT up reply actions
good for him for being confident and training hard, he might just make it out of the first round….. WAR silva- STIll i rather see Silva fight at 205 after he ruins Cote, and hopefully a future fight with bisping! Silva vs Rampage is a dream match!!

I liked watching Silva’s last five of six fights (excluding the Marquadt fight only I believe) on unleashed last night. It just shows you that he is the most dominant MMA fighter on the planet and that he’s just one scary dude.
I think Silva is going to get Cote in the clinch like he did to Franklin and just fuck his shit up. Cote will need reconstructive face surgery after this fight is over with.
Next up should be another bout at 205 — perhaps winner of Jardine/Vera — before taking Henderson II (provided he slaughters Franklin like I project) then maybe Marquadt II, a fight with Maia and perhaps Leites.
by Anthony on Oct 9, 2008 5:15 PM EDT reply actions
Silva is a bad match for Jardine. Anderson vs Wandy, or Shogun. Battle of Brazil!
by sinister on Oct 9, 2008 6:14 PM EDT up reply actions
if anybody has the tools to beat silva at 205, its those two guys, aggressive, ruthless, well rounded attacks, keep the pressure on and silva will crack, rich franklin decided that standing right in front of silva was a great idea, TWICE… Leben, please… Lutter? even worse… Irvin? joke… give the man a real opponent! (Henderson excluded)

Cote doesn’t seem like the smartest guy in the world, but I think that’s what makes him dangerous. He respects Silva’s skills, but I think he genuinely gives himself a realistic chance to win this fight. He has no confidence issues, that’s for sure.
by Pat on Oct 9, 2008 5:19 PM EDT reply actions
I dont understand why ppl arent giving him a shot at all. I believe Anderson will win, but Cote hits hard, and anything is possible in an mma fight. And of course he genuinly gives himself a chance. He shouldnt be a fighter if he doesnt. Should be a fun match to watch though, I like both guys alot. Lookin forward to it.

It’s good to see that Cote is working hard. I’m 99% sure that Anderson will win, but honestly, this is MMA and after watching favorite after favorite get stomped out, I don’t know if I’ll be saying “OOOHHHHHHHHHH!!!!” if Silva loses LOL. I’ll just slug my beer and shout WAR MMA!!!

It’s kind of amazing that Cote is in a title fight. It seems not too long ago that he had his back to the wall in the UFC because he hadn’t won a fight. His road to a title shot did not pass through any of the major guns in the division: Hendo, Franklin, Marquardt, Okami. You can tell that he is happy just to be there. He seems like mere filler to keep AS active while Okami heals up and Hendo and Marquardt sort out who’s going to get a second shot.
In a way, I think that is what makes Cote dangerous. He is such a punching bag with no apparent chance at victory, that you almost have to go the other way with it and wonder if he can’t land one on the button and shock us all. I give him about a 3% chance of doing that, but still, that is something.
Franklin doesn’t hit hard enough to threaten Silva standing. Hendo doesn’t have the range as a striker. Marquardt has the best all around game to threaten him, IMO. But it could be a guy who hits hard and manages to time AS with a single strike (finished by a flurry of GnP of course) that topples him from his perch of dominance. Something like Serra/GSP 1. Cote could conceivably be that guy. Anderson and his talk of retirement in a year or so has me thinking he is ripe for an upset. I wouldn’t bet on it, as obviously he is a ridiculous favorite to destroy Cote, who seems tailor made for him. But that is exactly the way I see Silva losing. Not to a guy who is his equal or near equal skillwise, but to a dude like Cote, who lands a (no such thing as a) lucky punch.
If AS dismantles Cote, I’d like to seem him fight Chuck myself. I think Chuck still has maybe another great fight in him, and his best way back to the top after being blasted by Rashad would be to find a way to beat the current #1 P4P. It just takes one strike…

cote is a nice guy but anderson is going to fuck his shit up. i’m 99% sure
by jojomcbean on Oct 9, 2008 6:07 PM EDT reply actions
i agree i think chuck is a great fight!! For one chuck has a style that is different and poses different problems for anderson. However he would have to keep his hands higher for sure if he was to win this one!!
Cote is a stepping stone, unfortunately its that simple, ofcourse he has a punchers chance, look what happened to chuck/evans, but the odds are a little different here.
For anderson to be pfp the best he def has to fight some top fighters, these fights are not the telling of a pfp best fighter, they just make the record look good similiar to a lot of fedor fights, he has to be fighting, rampage/liddell/wandi/shugun/gsp/griffin etc… as these are fights that will test him for sure!!!!!!!!!
by mo on Oct 9, 2008 6:24 PM EDT reply actions
Difference between Chuck and Anderson is Anderson doesnt go into the pocket on the defensive with his hands down and “bait” his opponents with his chin.
I think Cote will have a hard time, but if he won It would be hard not to be surprised.
by DirtyML on Oct 9, 2008 7:02 PM EDT reply actions
i agree dirtyML, thats why im saying it would be a great fight, but in order for chuck to have a good chance he would have to keep his hands up in this one!!!

Cote will be extremely lucky to make it out of the first round.
Either way, the outcome will be the same. Silva by knockout, probably with knees and kicks…
Cote will be lucky if he gives a better accounting of himself than Franklin, but that’s not saying much.
