Elite XC: 'A Night of Champions' set for Reno, Nevada, Nov. 8

Today -- even though it has been known for several weeks now -- Elite XC announced its year-ending show dubbed "A Night of Champions" at the Reno Events Center in Reno, Nevada, on November 8, which will air live on Showtime beginning at 10 p.m. ET.

"A Night of Champions" will appropriately feature at least two title bouts on the televised main card.

In the main event, "Ruthless" Robbie Lawler (16-4) will defend his 185-pound Elite XC title for the third time against Greg Jackson trainee Joey Villasenor (26-6) in a rematch from a 22-second knockout suffered by Villasenor at Pride 32 back in 2006.

The co-main event will pit Philadelphia native Eddie Alvarez (15-1) against Cesar Gracie jiu-jitsu black belt Nick Diaz (18-7) for the company's vacant lightweight title.

Here's what Elite XC has officially announced for the card thus far:

Main event:

Elite XC Middleweight Champion "Ruthless" Robbie Lawler (16-4) vs. Joey Villasenor (26-6)

Showtime card (televised):

160 lbs.: Nick Diaz (18-7) vs. Eddie Alvarez (15-1) for the vacant Elite XC Lightweight title
205 lbs.: Rafael "Feijao" Cavalcante (7-1) vs. TBA
185 lbs.: Scott "Hands of Steel" Smith (13-5) vs. Hector "Shango" Lombard (17-2-1)
140 lbs.: Kaitlin Young (4-2) vs. Sarah Kaufman (7-0)

Tickets for "A Night of Champions" are on sale now and can be purchased through StubHub.com.

205 lbs.: Rafael "Feijao" Cavalcante (7-1) vs. TBA …. Please let it be Tito. I’d love to see him get wooped by Feijao.

by MoonUK on Oct 9, 2008 3:34 PM EDT up reply actions

It’s not gonna be Jacob just had back surgery and is out until early next year.

by Big Jake on Oct 9, 2008 3:35 PM EDT up reply actions

even if tito was ready, Feijao would get punished

by McArthur on Oct 9, 2008 3:39 PM EDT up reply actions

Feijao would dismantle Tito, healthy back or not.

by the_mexicutioner on Oct 9, 2008 4:00 PM EDT up reply actions

Look for the TBA to be Cyrille “The Snake” Diabate

by ViolentMike on Oct 9, 2008 4:39 PM EDT up reply actions

Bad match up for Diabate. He is going to get a beating. Then again, Feijao is a bad match up for a lot of guys.

by BNF on Oct 9, 2008 4:46 PM EDT up reply actions

EXC has lost all my interest. It makes me think “who’s getting payed to do what”. F them. Don’t care.!!.

by iagoof22 on Oct 9, 2008 8:45 PM EDT up reply actions

Hahaha…have fun missing out an a GREAT card.

by Joseph on Oct 10, 2008 5:37 AM EDT up reply actions

Freaking AWESOME CARD!

Can’t wait. The Feijao fight may also be for the crowning of the LHW belt as well.

I know alot of people are going to be driving up to Reno to see this card!

by Joseph on Oct 9, 2008 2:23 PM EDT reply actions

I know I’ll be driving up from Reno to see it. This is so sweet. I could walk to this freaking thing.

by DDT on Oct 9, 2008 4:05 PM EDT up reply actions

It is for the LHW championship and, as mentioned mentioned above, should be against Diabate.

I say we see Feijao in the UFC within a year or two though.

by Space on Oct 9, 2008 10:31 PM EDT up reply actions

Looks like a solid card!

by JV on Oct 9, 2008 2:29 PM EDT reply actions

me too! this is the event that should have been heavily promoted and put on cbs. im looking very much forward to seeing feijao fight and the diaz/alvarez should be a doozy. it seems like the shoxc and the elite xc showtime shows are way better than their cbs shows.

by b.w. on Oct 9, 2008 3:02 PM EDT up reply actions

diaz/alvarez will be awesome…hoping Diaz gets his handed to him…Alveraz is a beast and is only in his early 20’s

by McArthur on Oct 9, 2008 3:04 PM EDT up reply actions

Now this is a real card!! Elite XC really needs to keep this type of match ups going. if not…i hope they sink t the bottom next Yamma pit!

by santiago69us on Oct 9, 2008 3:46 PM EDT up reply actions

“Sink to the bottom of the Yamma Pit” LMAO! That was a good one.

by JV on Oct 9, 2008 4:04 PM EDT up reply actions

Absolutely LOVE the card. Diaz/Alvarez is a dream fight for me. Hopefully Nick doesn’t get KO’d for the first time ever and this is a 5 ROUND WAR!!!!!!! Cuz Eddie definitely has more than enough power in his hands to put Diaz to sleep, especially early in the fight. The only reason Lawler/Villasenior is the mian event is because Lawler has fought on CBS twice. To the real MMA fan, Diaz and Alvarez are both bigger names than Lawler and Villasenior.

The only possible Elite XC match that I can think of that I’d love to see added to the card, althought most likely impossible at this point woud be Abel Cullum vs Brian Carraway. (Wilson Reis’s last 2 opponents) Those two kids would put on a show!!!!!!!!!!!!!

by ViolentMike on Oct 9, 2008 4:46 PM EDT up reply actions

who might TBA be at 205…any ideas keeping in mind cross promos…I’d like to see little NOG, or Babalu in there for the belt

by McArthur on Oct 9, 2008 2:34 PM EDT reply actions

As much as they say they will crosspromote, its not going to happen!

by JV on Oct 9, 2008 2:51 PM EDT up reply actions

They just did with AA/Nelson

by introvert on Oct 9, 2008 2:54 PM EDT up reply actions

Crosspromote means AA/Big Foot or Nelson/Kimbo!!! All EliteXC did was let 2 Affliction fighters fight on their show. And the way things are with EliteXC do you think they can afford to have their fighters lose to another Orgs. fighters?

by JV on Oct 9, 2008 3:58 PM EDT up reply actions

Cyrille The Snake Diabate

by ViolentMike on Oct 9, 2008 4:40 PM EDT up reply actions

I think Babalu is booked already, Lil Nog in there would be cool.

by rockwell on Oct 9, 2008 2:55 PM EDT up reply actions

what about Seth….lol

by McArthur on Oct 9, 2008 3:05 PM EDT up reply actions

Its been mentioned…serioously!

by MoonUK on Oct 9, 2008 3:34 PM EDT up reply actions

it’s not like he got a workout with his last fight and could’nt make weight. feijao would beat seth easily imo though.

by b.w. on Oct 9, 2008 3:41 PM EDT up reply actions

lil Nog trains with Feijao, so they are not fighting. They are going to save Tito for CBS.

by Bill Maher on Oct 9, 2008 3:42 PM EDT up reply actions

I’m thinking if Tito was serious about signing with EXC, he’ll be in this fight. just a guess but I don’t think Tito is going to sign with them unless they give him Kimbo’s pay.

by Cogito Ergo Sum on Oct 9, 2008 2:53 PM EDT up reply actions

he’s having surgery and will be out for at least 6 months

by McArthur on Oct 9, 2008 3:03 PM EDT up reply actions

Makes sense, I don’t brush up on Tito info very often. I figured this would be a quick way to get some viewers to watch cause this is an awesome card but I think it might bomb in viewer ratings

by Cogito Ergo Sum on Oct 10, 2008 11:08 AM EDT up reply actions

they will give him Kimbo’s pay easily but here he wants more than that

by McArthur on Oct 9, 2008 3:06 PM EDT up reply actions

Tito needs like 3 feeder fights before fighting feijao. He hasn’t won in 3 fights. Once he gets up to like 20-6 then they can give him real fights.

by Bill Maher on Oct 9, 2008 3:44 PM EDT up reply actions

Frank Shamrock would be a good TBA

by introvert on Oct 9, 2008 2:44 PM EDT reply actions

yeah but he’s only a mw.

by b.w. on Oct 9, 2008 2:58 PM EDT up reply actions

For the right money he would fight LHW. He would have to fight at LHW if he wanted Tito or Kenny.

by MoonUK on Oct 9, 2008 3:49 PM EDT up reply actions

ive read were he was willing to fight kimbo in place of ken. but thats kimbo, im sure they would have to pay alot more money to fight a stud like feijao on short notice. i wouldnt complain if it happened.

by b.w. on Oct 9, 2008 4:15 PM EDT up reply actions

war Sarah Kaufman

by DirtyML on Oct 9, 2008 2:52 PM EDT reply actions

this is elite xc’s best fight card ever and too bad it wont be on cbs, i guess in order to be on cbs nowadays you need a side show main event.

by matt on Oct 9, 2008 3:15 PM EDT reply actions

agreed…doesn’t really make sense. I realize they are trying to draw new fans but any potential new fan should watch good fighters fight…you can still have all the drama without KIMBO ie. Diaz

by McArthur on Oct 9, 2008 3:18 PM EDT up reply actions

They tried not putting any fighters the casual fan is aware of and it got its lowest ratings in the second CBS event.

by Joseph on Oct 9, 2008 6:02 PM EDT up reply actions

Am I the only one that noticed that Lawler and Villasenor’s photos are swapped?

by Hoot on Oct 9, 2008 3:19 PM EDT reply actions

Noticed the same thing. Ufc has done that a few times as well, but don’t ask me when bc I have no clue. I just remember seeing that and was like,"why the fuc* would they do that?

by BOW on Oct 9, 2008 4:09 PM EDT up reply actions

Nope, I was wondering about that too.

by UKmmaBOY on Oct 9, 2008 4:09 PM EDT up reply actions

Why would they put the Lawler/Villasenor names/portraits backwards?

Call me a sucker for marketing and design, but that doesn’t seem very professional to me. It’s especially bad coming from an organization trying to create new stars and pull in brand new fans to MMA.

I’ve seen it happen first-hand (local MMA shows) where people have been cheering for the wrong guy because they had they didn’t really know either fighter, and the names were backwards on the flyers.

by Immak on Oct 9, 2008 3:24 PM EDT reply actions

lol! cheering for the wrong fighter. thats pricless.

by b.w. on Oct 9, 2008 3:42 PM EDT up reply actions

lol, did they start booing when “their” fighter lost?

by brendan on Oct 10, 2008 12:06 AM EDT up reply actions

I think they got Lawler’s and Villasenor’s pics backwards…

by enzo-enormous on Oct 9, 2008 3:31 PM EDT reply actions

yea, I think that might confuse newbies a bit

However … friggin awesome card! Didn’t thought EliteXC would manage to setup such a card, now just let TBA be Lil Nog or Babalu and it would easily be one of the best cards of this year, right after Dream5 maybe.

by YouTapped on Oct 9, 2008 3:36 PM EDT up reply actions

With the card less then a month away, it is unlikely that TBA will be Tito or any other notable 205er. Best we can hope for is Jared Hamman. Which isn’t that bad.

EliteXcs 205 roster is limited and Feijao needs exposure. They can’t give him the belt if the division isn’t taken seriously.

Tito won’t fight Feijao, he’ll make more money fighting the Shamrocks and other superfights from 5 years ago, that are less risk.

My guess is that Feijao fights for the belt on CBS. His opponent… Seth Petruzelli! Who will get destroyed. Feijao gets the belt over the guy that beat Kimbo.

Does Benji get winner of Villasenor/Lawler?
Do they give Noons the winner on CBS?

by kcmay17 on Oct 9, 2008 5:17 PM EDT reply actions

TBA is rumored to be Cyrille “Snake” Diabate, who is an awesome striker and former PRIDE fighter.

Benji gets winner of Villasenor/Lawler or winner of Smith/Lombard, and then that winner will face winner of Villasenor/Lawler.

Noons will most likely fight the winner of Diaz/Alvarez, ESPECIALLY if Alvarez wins.

by Joseph on Oct 9, 2008 6:05 PM EDT up reply actions

Good call on Snake.

I thought about him but went with Hamman because Diabate is not listed on the EliteXC website and Hamman vs Poai 2 was the headline in the August ShoXC event.

by kcmay17 on Oct 9, 2008 6:12 PM EDT reply actions

i wonder if they know lawler/villasenor’s names and pictures are mismatched?

by johnny mack on Oct 9, 2008 8:33 PM EDT reply actions

Once again, GREAT card!
