UFC Quick Quote: Gabriel Gonzaga interested in Brock Lesnar clash of monsters

"[Brock Lesnar] was never proposed to us, but Gabriel Gonzaga would love to fight him because he’s a big name and I think it would be a clash of two monsters. I think it would be a huge fight so if the UFC gave Gonzaga that honor he would be happy to fight Brock Lesnar."
-- Marco Alvan -- the head trainer for former UFC heavyweight number one contender Gabriel Gonazaga -- tells BostonHerald.com that he and his fighter would be interested in a fight with Brock Lesnar in the near future. "Napao" is among the larger fighters in the division (like Lesnar) who also has a tight submission game (unlike Lesnar), which would more than likely be another dangerous test for the former professional wrestling star. Lesnar takes on Randy Couture -- who beat down Gonzaga last year -- at UFC 91 on November 15. Gonzaga will also compete on that same card against Octagon newcomer Josh Hendricks. If Couture defeats Lesnar and Gonzaga defeats Hendricks it would be real interesting to see if the promotion would book a fight like this, which would once again put a big pay-per-view (PPV) money machine at risk of losing to a much more experienced fighter.

Gonzaga is that guy who kicked Cro-Cop. thats it. thats all he is going to be known for… and a collage

I have no desire to see this fight considering Gonzaga got blown away by Randy and then Werdum….wants the point? Brock vs Randy is going to be awesome the rest of the card as of now is horrible.

MONDAY MORNING REPORT:
Well, the Kimbo hype train may not be dead. “Kevin, you don’t know shit,” thats what I was tiold last night at work when talking with another mma fan about how much of a farce kimbo is. His fans (novice mma fans) still think he’s an animal. I take nothing away from Kimbo the man, but the fighter?? I’m all for someone making 500k (even a little envious) when they possess no real skill. Fact is, I could have beaten the guys in the backyard, parking lot or boat yard. He just so happened to be the one to film it, put it out there for people to see and reap the benefits of it. For that, I give Kimbo his props. I truly believe that he even doesn’t consider himself a headliner, but what’s he going to say…“no thanks, I’d rather 30k on the non televised card.” Soon enough he’ll lose again, and again, then the WWE will be calling. While we’re still watching mma fights every week, he’ll be making millions because he’s a big, intimidating guy who put himself out there for everyone to see. Good for him!
I thought it was a sloppy night of fight (once I rewatched it), Rua was very unimpressive, Gina looked good, but cyborg will beat her and shields looked sloppy, and really needs to work the stand up. AA is one of my favorites, looked good, but still looks a little tentative.
Lastly, I read on yahoo that Frank was offered the fight (against Kimbo by elite), accepted, and passed a physical, and got scrapped by CBS. What if Ken was noble and honerable, wouldn’t accept the “stand with kimbo money,” elite said you can’t fight, you do it your way or we’ll make something up, then found someone to stand?? Either way, it blew up in their face!

kevin i don’t think you would beat one guy kimbo fought on you tube but other than that i agree with you, the fights where not great but i enjoyed them.

Kevin doesn’t know that it’s Tuesday and that this is a thread on Lesnar-Gonzaga … not Kimbo.

Mania, never seems to have a problem with deleting my posts.
gonzaga vs. Brock Lesnar would go a long way as to show us, how much of a transition Brock has made to mma. if Brock beats Couture, So what? His achiles heel has been labeled as ju jitrsu fighters, something Randy is not. If brock could beat Gonzaga without getting caught in a fight ending submission, I would be really impressed and feel that Brock would be ready to face anyone!
Brock vs. Gonzaga! BOOK IT! If Brock looses to Randy, this fight must be booked!

lol, I get posts deleted too john, I’m not a big GG fan, but agree, this would be a great match up!

agreed on all points considering there is no pic of any cut from ken? AA looked good but Fedor will bum rush him and win in 2 minutes.
by Robert on Oct 7, 2008 4:00 PM EDT up reply actions
they should him before the fights began he did have a cut and sutures.ken probally would have beat him just as fast.

if brock loses i would like to see him fight the loser of mir/nog. thats what makes sense to me.
by b.w. on Oct 7, 2008 12:35 PM EDT up reply actions
Good news. Gabe deserves to be in the title picture. Winner of Couture/Lesnar fights winner of Mir/Nog. Then Werdum gets first crack at the new unified champion. Meanwhile Gonzaga works his way back up by fighting Lesnar. Only problem is that it will be two losses in a row for Brock. I don’t think his fanbase (casual/rassling) will tolerate that.
by wAyNe on Oct 7, 2008 10:04 AM EDT reply actions
so how do you know brock is going to lose?
i say randy might lose, but if he does, will he lose the right to fight fedor or will brock get it cause gonzaga is a ood hvweight, but i don’t see him winning a belt in the ufc
by mikeybear on Oct 7, 2008 11:12 AM EDT up reply actions
i think gonzaga actually has a better chance at beating lesnar than randy does, maybe its his age, his size, jiu-jitsu experience… call me crazy
by brendan on Oct 7, 2008 7:53 PM EDT up reply actions
I don’t.

I’d like to see Gonzaga kick Lesnar’s head clear off his shoulders.
by Diesel Power on Oct 7, 2008 10:06 AM EDT reply actions
LOL, you beat me to the punch on that one. Hopfully after Randy beats Brock, we will get to see this match up.
by natedogg77 on Oct 7, 2008 10:39 AM EDT up reply actions
i just cant see randy beating lesnar…he is just too strong and too fast for him. Should be an interesting fight tho
by steve on Oct 7, 2008 10:48 AM EDT up reply actions
I could see Randy utilizing the clinch to weaken Brock with knees, then Brock taking him down and Randy just going for submissions like crazy and either trying to stand it up or reverse to the mount. Should he pull off either of those, I could see him going for GnP or trying to trade with Brock. Should be an interesting bout.
by RyanHobbs on Oct 7, 2008 11:42 AM EDT up reply actions
Are you guys serious, nobody is going to be able to stop Brock’s takedowns ,much less kick his head off.Gonzaga would get manhandled by Brock, like what was said earlier all Gonzaga has is a kick on Cro Cop,thats it ,Randy just whipped him with a broke arm,so a one armed wrestler beat him ,what do you really think a full strength Brock Lesnar would do to him, come on .Also why do you guys hate him so much,he was a amateur wrestler for years, got in WWE made money ,hated it ,and got out, wanted to get back into competive sports, thats why he tried football where he was going to make about the same, then came to MMA where he makes less.If he was a professional wrestler,he could go back anytime he wanted and make more than he makes now,so stop hating
by scott on Oct 7, 2008 7:12 PM EDT up reply actions
Good post. People do hate on Brock. But it’s not because he doesn’t have talent, it’s because he’s getting a title shot with a 1-1 record. Brock is overhyped and that wears on people.
GG will welcome a lesnar takedown. Napao will submit him. He is a BJJ blackbelt. I believe Lesnar would not be wise to take down Gonzaga, Nog, or Werdum. Mir already showed us what would happen.
Gonzaga has only lost to two people in 13 professional fights. In all ten of his victories he stopped his opponnent by KO or submission. He’s won the most respected BJJ competition in the world. He’s earned his respect with the hardcore fans. Brock was a great wrestler in college. And he’s got a 50% win rate in the cage. Being submitted once and winning by decision once. He’s got a ways to go to live up to the hype.
by wAyNe on Oct 7, 2008 11:27 PM EDT up reply actions
I think after Gonzaga & Kongo’s next fights they should face off against each other. That would be a better match up, to see who potentionally could be the next challenger after the title’s been unified obviously & Werdum has a guranteed shot right, or maybe the winner of Gonzaga/Kongo could face Werdum. Joe Silva pay attention.
by Macho Bullshit on Oct 7, 2008 10:08 AM EDT reply actions
That would put Werdum on hold for too long. Wouldn’t it? And he seems like hes content to wait around for a title shot.
by sinister on Oct 7, 2008 11:03 AM EDT up reply actions
No, but Werdum has beat Gonzaga twice so a 3rd fight is unlikely to happen. Still though id lose respect for Werdum if he wins the Dos Santos fight and just waits up to a year for a title shot. Nog/Mir vs Couture/Lesnar won’t happen till April/May and then they’ll probably be 4 months for a fight after that making it September/October 09.
Fighter’s who wait out title shot’s don’t deserve them. They should stay active and prove they are the No#1 Contender without a doubt. Prime example being Kenny Florian. Now that is a fighter I can respect.
by Macho Bullshit on Oct 7, 2008 5:54 PM EDT up reply actions
for sure, id love to see kenny florian take the title from bj penn
by brendan on Oct 7, 2008 7:55 PM EDT up reply actions
gonzaga is a beast. ya he’s known for that head kick but he’s got nasty jujitsu. he was never known for striking but had no problem standing with cro cop. anyone who doesnt mind standing with cro cop cant be that bad at striking. i saw gonzaga fight at a small local show before he fought in the ufc, he should be fighting at a level with top guys.
by allamerican on Oct 7, 2008 10:13 AM EDT reply actions
He’s also known for tiring very quickly. No way he could match the pace Lesnar sets.

Gonzaga would break mentally against Brock Lesnar and he would gas out by round 2.
by "Mr. NC-17" on Oct 7, 2008 10:32 AM EDT reply actions
The Ufc will not match up Gonzaga ans Brock any time soon.. Gonzaga can stop the Brock Train.. at this time. Maybe later down the line.. later.
by PhilQNY on Oct 7, 2008 10:35 AM EDT up reply actions
I really dont see how Napao can defeat Lesnar. Lesnar would be too strong and would wear our Napao. Napao broke mentally and physically against Werdum at UFC 80. He was gassed halfway through round 1.
by "Mr. NC-17" on Oct 7, 2008 11:00 AM EDT up reply actions
i think gabe beats brock, it probally wouldn’t be a title fight so 3 rounds is about what gabe is good for and he looked like he was killing werdum untill he gassed or what ever happened.
by roy on Oct 7, 2008 11:26 AM EDT up reply actions
He could easily submit Lesnar on the ground. He has great BJJ. He also hs good GnP shoud Lesnar wind up on his back. Plus, he has the power in his striking to knock Lesnar out. He is pretty mucha well rounded fighter that could pose a serious threat to Lesnar.
by RyanHobbs on Oct 7, 2008 11:33 AM EDT up reply actions
He’s got some top notch BJJ. That makes him dangerous to Brock; he’s a serious threat. No question he could sub Brock.
Then again Brock could pound anyone’s face through the octagon floor.
It would be an interesting matchup for sure.
by RobH86 on Oct 7, 2008 11:49 AM EDT up reply actions
17: Gabe lost that fight mentally.. cuz he had lost to Werdum back in the day.. His only advantege IMO was his improved striking..cuz on the ground.. a slight.. edge goes to Napao..but there so close it can be an even grappling match. With Napao fighting Brock.. Napao is not a Heath Herring on the ground.. if brock gets on his back.. he is in trouble.. if Napao is on his back he is in trouble. Standing..as long as Napao’s face does not meet up with the 4XL UFC gloves of Brocks..he’ll be aight.. Brock is beast.. the new age “SMASHING MACHINE”.. but he is still green around the ears to the mma game. I think Napao.. is more looking at this fight. .cuz of all the ppv numbers Brocke pulls in.. pretty smart.
by PhilQNY on Oct 7, 2008 12:50 PM EDT up reply actions
I think they all want to fight him before he learns very much about the game. when he gets some knowledge to go with that awesome power and athleticism not many guys are gonna be looking for him. but for now it seems if you beat him you jump straight to the top, just like mir, so its a good way to get a title shot.
by CLETIS on Oct 7, 2008 6:52 PM EDT up reply actions
Like Mike Tyson said “Everybody has a plan until they get punched in the mouth” My point is Gonzaga will not be able to avoid those 4XL fist,he could not avoid Randy’s,so Brock will send him flying like he sent Herring remember the flips or cartwheels what ever you want to call it
by scott on Oct 7, 2008 7:20 PM EDT up reply actions
That’s the big question. I like Napao, but his conditioning was clearly suspect in a few of his fights. Hopefully he’s learned something—if his cardio gets better, he’s definitely a contender.
by BobC on Oct 7, 2008 3:01 PM EDT up reply actions
I don’t think Gonzaga would destroy Lesnar if Heath Herring couldn’t even come close. If Brock managed to beat Couture and then Nogueira (since I think Nogueria will beat Mir), then there wouldn’t be too many heavyweights left for him to take on aside from Gonzaga and Werdum!
by Joe Piervincenti on Oct 7, 2008 10:55 AM EDT reply actions
don’t worry he won’t get past nog, maybe even not randy.
by roy on Oct 7, 2008 11:27 AM EDT up reply actions
If Brock gets by Randy ,I am pretty confident he will beat Nog.I am not hating on Nog,he is a great fighter, but he takes a lot of punishment ,before making someone tap,can he take that same amount of punishment from Brock,I personally do not believe he can.
by scott on Oct 7, 2008 7:26 PM EDT up reply actions
Smart move by the Gonzaga camp, setting up a high profile match against Brock if he loses.
by miarep on Oct 7, 2008 11:45 AM EDT reply actions
I don’t think Brock will lose to Randy Couture. I also think Lesnar has good submission defence now, that he could very well defeat napao. Brock could be the next Coleman.
by CITY BOXER on Oct 7, 2008 11:59 AM EDT reply actions
Meh just find a way to bring in Fedor and watch him breeze through all HW competition just like A. silva did all the Middleweights
by rydinlow on Oct 7, 2008 12:26 PM EDT reply actions
Fedor, Nog and Couture all in the UFC would be amazing. I really want to see how Brock does against Couture though. He is so strong and fast and big and hits so dam hard, but I want to see if he can take a punch, see how he reacts when he is bleeding. This will be the highest selling UFC ppv ever. Even my cheap ass will buy it, if the undercard gets better.
by mike on Oct 7, 2008 1:18 PM EDT up reply actions
I still want to see Kongo v Lesner. And for those that say why, when Lesner beat Herring and Herring beat Lesner, you were not saying why should Jardine be face Wanderlei Silva, when Jardine beat Liddell who then went on to beat Silva. And we all know what happened when Jardine did face Silva
by Ade on Oct 7, 2008 12:36 PM EDT reply actions
As much as I don’t like Tim Sylvia, I still want to see a Sylvia/Lesnar match. That could be really interesting.

gonzaga shouldnt be that close to a title shot…
he may get lesnar if coutoure beats lesnar
but if lesnar wins hes getting winner of mir NOG
werdum is above gonzaga and should get the eventual undisputed champion
by bigjohn on Oct 7, 2008 1:22 PM EDT reply actions
Gonzaga, Big Nog, Werdum, Mir, Velasquez. Those are the guys who would beat Brock. It just takes a big guy with solid submission and ground game. Everyone else will probably lose to him.
by EazyEismydad on Oct 7, 2008 4:52 PM EDT reply actions
Oh you think that Velasquez is going to out wrestle him come on lets be serious,Gonzaga does not have much of a chance ,Nog takes too much punishment before he submits people, want be able to take that much punishment.Werdum ,I just do not think he will survive the rush in and the beating ,Mir will even tell you he got lucky, and this time will have more fear than he had the first time because he knows how they feel now .Mir remembers seeing “white flashes” everytime he got hit
by scott on Oct 7, 2008 7:55 PM EDT up reply actions
Rather would see brock punch out kongo so he’s not complaining about getting a ’tittle shot". Cheers.
Gonzaga could always fight carwin or valeseq (sorry spelling)
by sisi on Oct 7, 2008 5:04 PM EDT reply actions
gonzaga had savage wins leading up to cro cop and peaked off kinda early tho. it was just the werdum and randy fights that were kind of slow and lackluster, but only cuz randy ROCKED him early and werdum had better jitz. win lose or draw, as long as he’s FIRED UP like before, there should be good fights for him!!

by SouthCaliStunNa on Oct 7, 2008 5:49 PM EDT reply actions
I think this guy is taylor made to beat Lesner. He has a deadly round house that not only knocked out Cro-Cop it also broke Randy’s arm. He has more sumbmissions the Lesner (who doesn’t) and is probably the biggest guy other than Lesner in the UFC. If Lesner beats Randy, which I guess could happen he will never beat big Nog. If it is Mir…he might catch Mir he was pounding him the first time before snap. Big Nog took out Bob Sapp who makes Lesner look like a skinny wimp.
by scott on Oct 7, 2008 7:08 PM EDT reply actions
But he is not as skilled as Brock, and not as powerful,I have said too many times tonight,Brock will beat all of them
by scott on Oct 7, 2008 7:58 PM EDT reply actions
Shane Carwin is up there in size. I think Carwin would give lesnar fits with his solid wrestling background and powerful hands. Velazques might be a little smaller but has a great all-around game. here are tons of matchups for Brock in the UFC. They just need to market those guys more.
