Dumbest ... robbers ... ever

From a BloodyElbow.com exclusive:

"... two gunman held [Lloyd] Irvin, his son, wife and UFC light heavyweight contender Brandon Vera at gun point while demanding to be directed towards valuables like cash or jewelry. While one gunman held Irvin's family hostage, another gunman directed Irvin to the the master bedroom. According to Irvin, he led the gunman toward his bedroom. Once in the bedroom, Irvin said he noticed the other gunman was far enough away down the hall to make a move to disarm the attacker in his bedroom. Irvin, an expert in Sambo defensive gun and knife techniques, was able to get a hold of the gun in the attacker's hands, first separating the clip from the gun and then removing the gun from the attacker's hands. At that point, the attacker in Irvin's room ran yelling to his accomplice that Irvin had his gun and both gunman fled the house.... Police were called to the scene and have launched an investigation. According to Irvin, no one in his family was physically hurt, although the psychological trauma at this point is considerable."

One has to imagine that the assailants had staked out their marks prior to making the bold move of moving in on UFC light heavyweight Brandon Vera and his equally skilled instructor, Lloyd Irvin, with hand guns. Even if the pair didn't it's equally as dumb. Fortunately none of the victims were physically harmed in the stick up. "The Truth" heads out to London, England, this week as his preparation for Keith Jardine tapers as fight night approaches on October 18. Hopefully the incident does not affect his performance. Head over to BloodyElbow.com to check out the entire report.

by Getrawbc on Oct 6, 2008 3:56 PM EDT up reply actions

Yes it is… the only thing more beautiful is that no one taken hostage got hurt.

by DJ on Oct 6, 2008 12:18 PM EDT up reply actions

Damn, removed the clip before even removing the gun from his hands. Pretty sweet Lloyd.

Wow!!!! DEAD STUPID!

by PhilQNY on Oct 6, 2008 12:20 PM EDT up reply actions

UKmmaBOY: This story reminds me about the time 2 guys tried to rob Duncan Fergusson’s (Scotish hardman soccer player) house, apart from Duncan chased them down the road and eventually caught them. Both ended up in hospital with broken bones.

by MoonUK on Oct 6, 2008 3:30 PM EDT up reply actions

I remember reading something about that a long time ago. Not the best of choices!!

by UKmmaBOY on Oct 6, 2008 4:50 PM EDT up reply actions

Sucks Irvin and Vera were both put through that. Hats off for handling the situation with heart.

by Luppers on Oct 6, 2008 12:04 PM EDT reply actions

Irvin is just lucky he was successful in disarming the guy or he would have been shot and probably his family too.

I think if it was me and I was the best sambo guy in the world somehow, I still would let them just take my material goods and hope they left my family alone after.

It is a big risk and I am glad for everyone involved that it worked out OK.

War Sambo!

by DirtyML on Oct 6, 2008 12:11 PM EDT reply actions

“I think if it was me and I was the best sambo guy in the world somehow”

Then you would be Fedor, and hence invincible.

by Pat on Oct 6, 2008 12:40 PM EDT up reply actions

Invincible? Whatever. He isnt invincible. Once he loses everyone will start hating just like you guys always do. Everyone loves him when he is on top of the world. Sorry Chucky, Page, Wandy, Hughes, you were everyone’s favorites until you lost.

I still love all those fighters, except Hughes, I never liked that dude.

by enzo-enormous on Oct 6, 2008 2:04 PM EDT up reply actions

Did somebody take too many serious pills this morning?

by Pat on Oct 6, 2008 2:22 PM EDT up reply actions

When I was in Iraq and to this day I think the same way as Irvin. If you have an opening you need to take it. If the guy is gonna shoot you either way you are done so might as well take the chance, if he is not gonna shoot you then he will hesitate enough for you to take him out. Either way if I die I will die trying to fight for my life, I’m not gonna die after giving some douche all my valuables.

Irvin is the man.

by mike on Oct 6, 2008 4:13 PM EDT up reply actions

That’s the key, you hope they don’t put you and your family face down and execute you to get rid of witnesses.

by Aaron_W on Oct 7, 2008 9:36 AM EDT up reply actions

i hope this doesnt effect vera in his next fight!!! he needs all of his thoughts to be clean for these next couple weeks. worrying about what he’s gotta face in the cage the 18th is enough…this probably wont make it any easier on his concience! nice job irvin!!! to the robbers…..talk about the wrong place at the wrong time! i’m sure they’ll concider a career change…..

by allamerican on Oct 6, 2008 12:15 PM EDT reply actions

If this affects him, it would be the “dumbest excuse” ever…

by The Negation on Oct 6, 2008 5:33 PM EDT up reply actions

holy crap – thats still scary

by jerrolds on Oct 6, 2008 12:16 PM EDT reply actions

to bad they didnt beat the crap out of them in the process.

by Jizzo on Oct 6, 2008 12:17 PM EDT reply actions

Here’s the best part: “was able to get a hold of the gun in the attacker’s hands, first separating the clip from the gun and then removing the gun from the attacker’s hands.” That’s some Jackie Chan shit there for ya.

by Jason on Oct 6, 2008 12:19 PM EDT reply actions

hes lucky the dude didnt think of the 1 in the chamber still

by randy murders on Oct 6, 2008 12:40 PM EDT up reply actions

Randy,

Considering what went down. I almost doubt this clown had one in the chamber. Hell, he may have still had the saftey on.

by Jeff on Oct 6, 2008 12:57 PM EDT up reply actions

Not all pistols can fire when the clip is removed.

by kitsunex on Oct 6, 2008 6:22 PM EDT up reply actions

It’s actually called a MAGAZINE if its in a pistol. Clip if it’s a rifle BTW.

by bayareasrick on Oct 6, 2008 11:27 PM EDT up reply actions

if you want to get technical, what in a rifle is a magazine as well. a clip is what the rifles used, which were a series of round held by a “clip”

by kitsunex on Oct 7, 2008 12:14 AM EDT up reply actions

Reread my post I never said the clip is IN the rifle.

by bayareasrick on Oct 8, 2008 2:25 AM EDT up reply actions

Its called an oingo boingo….who the hell cares. Stop epeening each other and googling to make yourself look more intelligent.

Wow. We could have been reading this morning about a tragedy. This is an awesome story. My prayers are with that family.

by wAyNe on Oct 6, 2008 12:19 PM EDT reply actions

where did it happen?

by lee maury on Oct 6, 2008 12:20 PM EDT reply actions

Maryland.

by DirtyML on Oct 6, 2008 12:24 PM EDT up reply actions

oh mania did you see the radio interview of seth in bloodyelbow? ..he said the EliteXC officials “suggested” that he should stand and bang with kimbo instead of taking him down. And it would be worth while for him if he does.

so they picked a fringe, part-time, LHW prelim fighter to fight kimbo, they asked him not to take him down. And it still backed fired on them. too bad haha.

by weoweoweo on Oct 6, 2008 1:07 PM EDT reply actions

WHAT!!!!! Dam I got to go read that! Thanks for the info!

by JV on Oct 6, 2008 1:33 PM EDT up reply actions

Why would they say that to a former K1 striker?

They really didn’t know anything about Seth from the sounds of it.

I wonder if they “made it worth his while” given the outcome?

Very interested to see the EliteXC salaries, particularly for how they pay the female MMA fighters that arent named Gina and for Seth as well as Daley.

by DirtyML on Oct 6, 2008 1:39 PM EDT up reply actions

He said it was 6 figures for standing with Kimbo! He also says that his manager was getting death threats, and he was getting things thrown at him right after the KO.

by JV on Oct 6, 2008 2:15 PM EDT up reply actions

WTF, that’s pretty bad…

by The Negation on Oct 6, 2008 5:34 PM EDT up reply actions

and seth said that EliteXC officials are planning to pit him up against tito for the belt in 2009. Since Tito is having surgery i doubt its gonna happen soon.

and would eliteXC really take a chance or overpriced overrated tito? ..oh wait, they have kimbo labeled as the baddest striker alive. So i guess an injured tito is still the baddest wrestler alive too.

by weoweoweo on Oct 6, 2008 1:12 PM EDT reply actions

Go over to cagepotato.com and see some pictures of Seth! Their making fun of Kimbo for getting destroyed in 14 sec. by a guy thats dressed as Seth is!

by JV on Oct 6, 2008 2:31 PM EDT up reply actions

That’s some nice info there weoweoweo. If Seth took a dive, all Kimbo haters here would be ranting endlessly…

by The Negation on Oct 6, 2008 5:36 PM EDT up reply actions

now that kimbo lost theyre turning to just EliteXC officials now haha. Everybody left the kimbo bandwagon so now theyre left to hating on eliteXC hahaha.

by weoweoweo on Oct 6, 2008 11:10 PM EDT up reply actions

For anyone interested in hearing the Petruzelli interview on the radio the link is:

http://monsters.fm/pages/monsters_media.html?feed=246187&article=4355604

Talks about how he got 6 figures for the Kimbo fight, death threats to his manager, etc. Worth a listen.

by DirtyML on Oct 6, 2008 1:43 PM EDT reply actions

Thats bad ass. im proud of him.
