Seth Petruzelli defeats Kimbo Slice in round one

petruzelli
Seth Petruzelli -- who was scheduled to fight Aaron Rosa on the under card of the CBS "Saturday Night Fights" special this evening -- stepped up on short notice to take on Kimbo Slice in the main event.

And he ended up stopping the promotional poster boy early in round one via strikes.

Ken Shamrock -- the original opponent for Slice -- was scratched at the last minute because of an injury.

Stay tuned for more on this shocking story as it develops. Craziness.

By a lightheavy weight. Hopefully this will end all the kimbo talk forever. Anyone catch $kala on the replay, I would have paid for PPV to see that look of your company going down the toilet.

I was literally laughing for 10 minutes.

They banked everything on one shitty and have potentially killed the chances for all the other real fighters under the Elite XC banner.

What a waste…

Is this really an upset? I mean I was going crazy, but I pretty well knew who would have their hand raised at the end. I will admit I didn’t think it would come from a weak cross in the first 10 seconds.

hhaha.

u could see jared shaw in the back~ground

yelling at the ref not to stop the fight.

he was yelling~ saying

that seth was hitting kimbo in the back of the head.

what a joke that jared shaw is.

he is probably crying himself to sleep right now.

LOL!! Seth Petruzelli gets cut from the UFC and shows up at literally the last second and KO’s Kimbo like he was nothing! LMAO…

The Anouncers build Seth up like he’s Rocky, they did a pretty good job and when Kimbo loses they scream like it was a SHOCK TO THE WORLD OF MMA! GOOD SALES JOB GUYS!! Seriously they were just doing there job I don’t think it’s really a shock to them.

As soon as I found out Kimbo was fighting Seth I thought what the hell is ELITE XC doing??… Seth is obviously too much for a guy like Kimbo, no way was Kimbo going to beat him… but I didn’t know it was going to last a few seconds.. LMAO!!

by THORAZINE on Oct 5, 2008 1:23 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I don’t like how the announcers try too hard. That one dude (Mauro, I think?) uses retarded words. He said “earth-shattering knee” when commenting the Ninja fight. And like THORAZINE said, building up Seth like hes some great fighter, even though before hand he was on the undercard. It just makes me want to watch EliteXC with the volume all the way down.

Punka** Kimbo didnt want to touch gloves at the start! Thats what he gets, (Seth who?) Seth a LHW, a guy that didnt make it in the UFC! That first punch didnt even land flush (Kimbo glass jawed?) LMFAO!!! Ofcourse “its all good” Kimbo, it better be cause you’d get whooped again if it wasnt!

no it wasnt an upset at all imo. seth is a REAL MMA fighter, kimbo isnt. a little surprising on how fast it ended, but i wouldnt call it shocking.

by b.w. on Oct 5, 2008 12:14 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Not shocked at all! I watched this fight with friends who are novices to mma, and they were disappointed about Shamrock pulling out of the fight, but I then explained that this would be a much tougher test for Kimbo, and the Silverback made me a prophet tonight!

What sickened me was seeing the replay of the Knockout. Watch it in slow motion. $kala is sitting front row next to Hulk HOgan and when kimbo was getting beat up, $kala was screaming at the referee about Kimbo being hit in the back of the head. Skala was furious at the stoppage and the fact that kimbo lost. This made me sick to my stomach. Can you imagine Dana White openly being mad that 1 of his fighters lost to another 1 of his fighters? Dana didnt bitch when GSP got crushed by Serra! $kala just showed the classless idiot that he is!
corporate employess like him, should not be so openly biased!

He watched his cash cow flush right down the drain!

by john on Oct 5, 2008 12:23 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Right b.w. Its not like Seth is a monster MMA fighter! Its just that Kimbo isnt a MMA fighter at all! But I love this sh*t! Cant wait to see what is said at the post fight press conference?

by JV on Oct 5, 2008 12:25 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

me too. i can imagine all the excuses $kala will be making. btw, i think fedor is like 7-0 against sylvia now. lol! how many times did they show that ad. sylvia must have a real complex by now.

by b.w. on Oct 5, 2008 12:39 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Seth is just an average LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT fighter who finally exposed Kimbo those on the bandwagon. Finally, maybe the freakshow matchups will end.

I cant beleive Mauro had to balls to say that Kimbo deserves a “mulligan” for his next fight. WTF? wasnt his entire mma career a mulligan????

How much more of a “mulligan” can you give the guy??? They gave him the easiest opponents possible.

by fightfan on Oct 5, 2008 12:48 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

With the curtain pulled back, Elite has lost its only bankable star. They don’t need him to be a good fighter, just come in every few months and knock some loser senseless. Without the mulligan Ranallo has to take his smug attitude to some other non-UFC MMA promotion . . . oh wait, there aren’t any.

by PW on Oct 5, 2008 12:51 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Tito is probably the biggest winner here. His value to Elite just went way up.
I could not believe they gave Kimbo The Silverback (although, could they really have gotten away with canceling Kimbo’s fight in his home town?). But with the announcement of Ken Shamrock pulling a Ken Shamrock and Seth was fighting in his place, you just had to know we were about to watch the death of an “urban” legend.
$kalla, man, what can you expect? He did the exact same thing at Kimbo’s last fight.
RE: Kimbo’s future, he seems like a likable guy, and everybody’s got to loose sometime right. And in the end (after tryng to double-leg the ref) he took the loss pretty well. Hopefully he sticks with it and keeps getting better… way better. Funny how he seemed so tight in the pre-fight interview yet, in the post-fight, he almost seemed relieved now that the pressure was off his shoulders. I guess there’s still a fight with Ken right?

by Canucklehead on Oct 5, 2008 1:57 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

The funny thing is that Kimbo couldn’t even get the take down on the ref! I think Mauro did say that the ref was working very hard on his sprawl though.

also, that punch that first hurt him? really? no chin at all on kimbo, shave that beard off and go back to street fighting man

by Crowls on Oct 4, 2008 11:27 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

You all are so full of shit!!! The fight was stopped prematurely and it was a “look what I got here punch”. He threw it while running. Kimbo took four times as many blows in his last fight and still won. He would have gotten up in this one.

If the ref had allowed the fight to continue Kimbo would have serverely injured Petruzelli. Just let them get a rematch and I promise you Kimbo will clean the floor with him. You all are just upset because a street brawler entered MMA with no experience and took the glory. MMA is a joke!!!!

by Totalpackage on Oct 5, 2008 12:01 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

If the fight had continued Seth would have been neating on an unconscious, drooling slob. And the only reason Fergie beat Thompson was because the fight was fixed. It should have been stopped in the first round when Thompson landed 60 straight elbows to Fergie’s head, then not stopped in the third because Fergie landed two consecutive punches.

by PW on Oct 5, 2008 12:54 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Totalpackage, I beg to differ on your name… because it doesn’t include a ‘BRAIN’ !

by THORAZINE on Oct 5, 2008 1:29 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Too funny. “totalpackage”, speaking of jokes, that comment had better been a joke. Kimbo’s 4 limbs were straight-out, stiff-as-a-board. He was the definition of KTFO. I will say that it was kinda funny that the last punch Seth connected with, just before the ref stopped the fight, seemed to wake Kevin up a little bit (Kinda’ like when Rampage knocked out Chuck). Although for Kimbo, it ended up waking him up just enough to mistake the ref for his opponent.

by Canucklehead on Oct 5, 2008 2:05 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

totalpackage WTF are you on? Your “internet sensation” got hammered by a fighter who is a LHW who stepped in at the last minute to fight your boy. Kimbo is a supposed street fighter who can take on anyone in a brawl. F*ck that, he got shown up as the fraud that he is and all you little youtube mma no-nothings can go back to youtube and find a new bum to idolise.

by UKmmaBOY on Oct 5, 2008 4:45 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

lol what fight was total package watching?

by brendan on Oct 5, 2008 5:03 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

thanks guys, this kid is a total clown.. change your name to that by the way. listen up douchebag, kimbo was got hit with one punch from a LHW that was backing up at the time and went down to all fours, then he proceeded to get smashed until he tried to roll over. If the ref didn’t stop the fight when he did, it would look exactly like the Benji knockout on Ninja earlier in the night. Kimbo was in no position to defend himself. Seth would shucked his legs to the side and dropped bombs on that old as shit mother fucker. Sorry your boy got KTFO but u gotta understand that most of us on here have no problem with Kimbo. I respect the attitude he has toward the sport and it’s clear that he is trying to become a legit fighter. The problem I have is that he is being billed as this world beater by some shit company. Also, when he gassed in that Thomson fight that was unacceptable.

by Crowls on Oct 5, 2008 9:44 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

What was the give away of him being knockout the stiff limbs or the fact that he tried to double leg the ref to the canvas when coming through?

Secondly what upsets people about Kimbo in MMA is not that he is a street fighter in mma, but the way Elite XC treats him. To me it is obvious that have had the fix on for his first 2 fights.
With Thompson he should have lost that fights, he got beat for several rounds.

Then in the first fight Kimbo recorded the hardest KO by punch to the shoulder ever. $kala really left a bad taste in my mouth at the end of the fight. Losing his cool completely because his cash cow lost. If that was Dana White he would not be allowed to live that down. Then the announcers make excuses for him, it was a mulligan, he was not prepared for Seth, and blah blah blah blah blah. IT is mma that is the name of the game.

Kimbo will “get back on track” by fighting Ken.

That fight was great, I really have to give props to Seth. I thought he would win but not that quickly.

Affliction got a huge boost out of this as well. I hate watching commercials and mute them, but not the one where they showed the entirety of the Fedor-Sylvia fight. This show was a coup for them in terms of advertising and pimping Fedor and Arlovski.

I’m sorry…but you guys are a joke.

You can’t sit there and say that Seth was full of skill tonight. That short blow by seth was a lucky shot thrown in a scramble to defend against Kimbo running in toward him. It was a successful short blow that caught Kimbo in the right spot. That’s all. Any MMA fighter can throw a short blow like that. It’s not really a skilled move and one that you can analyze and prove that Seth was way more skilled tonight. It was a short blow that could have been thrown by Kimbo in a street fight…nothing different. Get over yourselves lol.

All Kimbo did was rush in with his hands half down. What happened to all that training with Bas? Maybe he’s ok in the gym but he resorts to his instincts in fights and just street brawls.

OMG what a jerked off fight.

Kimbo was hit with something that wouldnt phase a 3 yr old.
The Petruzelli guy was fighting scared. I dont even mean mildly he was terrified.

Not exactly someone you can base an organization around.

Gina was hot, I would have helped her with the sheets at the weigh-ins. The other chick was tough but man did she look homely. Cyborg looked like she pops steroids.

Daley had 0% ground game. And the commentators made it sound like he made some amazing escape in dying seconds of first round when in reality Shields knew he could weather the storm if the armbar didnt pan out.

That being said Shields is far from top 5 in MMA (WW division)
I can think of alot that would kill him. He had no power from the mount.

GSP, BJ, Karo, Kos, Diego, Sherk, Swick, Fitch, Alves, Hughs, Serra they could all school him. Akiyama and Kang would too.

I guess a guy shouldnt complain too much it was free. Although the company has no idea as to how to set up fights.

I would have bumped arlovski up. It would be a win win situation.

Needless to say Slices stocks need bad investing by congress.

I think youll see them feed him to the guy thats been hounding him for a fight. And Fedor vs Arlovski has got to happen.

Did anyone see the Elite XC executive (he was in the ring after every fight), freaking out while Seth was throwing, and missing the punches as Kimbo was going down??? In slow motion, you can see this executive yelling at the ref that Seth was hitting Kimbo in the back of the head, which never happened once…Tell me they didn’t have everything banked on Kimbo! Screw the knockout, that piece of footage told me all I need to know!!!

Kimbo was DEF exposed tonight, but you can’t admit that he’s not a classy dude. He’s trying to shed his brawling past and trying to become a true professional. It’s not like he asked to have all this exposure. Elite XC should have pulled him from the card so that something like this didn’t happen. Poor Kimbo and poor Elite XC. Now Carano, Alvarez and Diaz are gonna have to carry them on their back, especially since Shields looked so poorly conditioned tonight.

They have to ditch Kimbo though. They can make him their face anymore. Period.

i said before this evening arlovski was the only legit HW in action and that he could easily have taken nelson kimbo and shamrock in the same evening

this loss is a disaster for elite xc

a loss to shamrock wouldnt be the end of the world… thered be potential for a rematch especially if it was a good fight

there are only a few things left for them to try

1 ditch the heavier weight classes and concentrate on jake shields and nick diaz

2 ditch their heavier weight classes and co promote with affliction… (affliction providing the 205 and HW fights)

3 sign tito ortiz, pay him whatever he wants, let him have whatever conditions he wants and let him carry the company

tito vs kimbo would be a good fight to showcase tito

then let him face maybe frank shamrock

tito vs shamrock could sell a heap of tickets and advertising as btoth guys know how to promote

by bigjohn on Oct 4, 2008 11:59 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

are you nuts, you think Tito vs. Kimbo would do anything for either of them? It MAY help salvage whats left for Kimbo if he wins (thats also if hell freezes over) but beating Kimbo does NOTHING for Ortiz.

Ortiz’s only fight is Frank Shamrock, and even that I can say wouldn’t do much for either of them. Affliction should jump off that sinking ship we call EliteXC because if anything tonight’s show actually devalues their top rated roster. If Kimbo is the bigger draw than Arlovski, Affliction is looking like a 2nd fiddle to EliteXC and that’s just a Travesty.

Shields, Lawler, and Alvarez shouldall try to find a way out and sign with UFC to provide them with better competition and actually help build their careers. Its better to be a warrior among champions than to be a king among insects.

And as for the actual basement dwellers, I think they can make fun of fighters who turn out to be frauds. Afterall, they aren’t holding themselves up to be fighters. by ferg on Oct 5, 2008 12:39 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I am assuming hard, being that he trains with Rutten. Give EliteXC shit, but it isn’t Kimbo’s fault. I would have done all those fights too if I were in his shoes.

by Bill Maher on Oct 5, 2008 12:43 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

People don’t hate him because he’s trying to learn to fight. People hate him because he got this undeserving attention he got and he took it all in.

The way the guy caries himself with his entourage of misfits makes people sick. Besides Bas, does any of them do anything to help further his career? At least you know the guys. At Greg Jacksons camp all have a role to play to help their team, I doubt Kimbo’s posse does anything but help him fetch cheezeburgers at Mcdonalds.

We can all admit this is fact, Kimbo is still a below average fighter who has yet to prove he can compete with the top of his weight class. He was fed a number of cans and we he finally faced a guy with some skill, he buckles. If he were really humble as he claims he is, he would have actually competed in amateur MMA events and learned the sport at the grass roots instead to jumping of the express bus to fame. The faster they climb, the faster they fall.

Anyone still wanna see him take on Fedor? Anyone think he’ll walk over Fedor? Not after tonight.

by Djs3467 on Oct 5, 2008 12:55 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Sorry if this gets posted twice but my comment hasnt shown up in an hours time, so I am posting again.

All of you people who think that Seth showed so much skill and effort tonight really need to get over yourselves. Kimbo was simply caught by a short blow that Seth threw without much thought because he saw Kimbo charging him. It’s instinct to throw your fists in that situation. It’s called ‘getting caught’ and everyone in MMA has been caught at some point or another. This just happens to be Kimbo’s first time.

Seth showed absolutely no more skills that any other MMA fighter in any given fight. It was a basic instinctual move that happened to land at the right spot and put Kimbo down. I’m sure a short blow was not in the game plan for defeating Kimbo for Seth…I’m sure Seth is just as surprised as anyone might be…Congrats to Seth for landing a good short blow in a scramble to defend a big man charging after him.

So….if anyone would like…PLEASE explain to me how Seth was so skilled in this fight.

by Jason Moore on Oct 5, 2008 12:33 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

He was at least as skilled as Benji who managed to hit a guy who slipped.

He aimed for the head, he hit the head. Tito’s fought for 11 years and still covers up as soon as someone throws at him.

I don’t think people are so much saying Seth is an amazing fighter as much as pointing out that Seth is more of a fighter than Kimbo.

by Jas on Oct 5, 2008 12:55 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

It’s not that Seth is SO skilled we’re talking about. We know he’s an above average MMA fighter that got cut from the UFC. I’ve watched Seth fight 4 times in his career and was Shocked he was picked to fight Kimbo, a truely trained young MMA fighter… I immediately felt that was a bad matchup for Kimbo in the worst way the second I heard it.

I didn’t know it would only last 14 second!

Fighter’s in MMA train all those scenerios over n’ over for years and when it happens it looks like luck! Really it’s training turned into ‘instinct’ in the blink of an eye. Kimbo showed his inexperience by rushing Seth like that hands down and head up and reaching to punch.

If Seth fought Kimbo again he would beat him again and if the fight lasted longer, Seth would definitely show a lot more of his skils, I’ve already seen them in the past I’m sure he’s even better now!

I just hope now all those Kimbo ball huggers will jump of his nuts. Kimbo would smash your everyday chump, he proves it in his youtube videos, but just can’t hang with the real MMA fighters. by Semesy on Oct 5, 2008 2:33 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

you cant have an “Ill fight anyone at any place” attitude, then complain because you had to take the fight on short notice, thats a cop out.

“Kimbos heavy hands” were expose in the Thompson fight and now his chin is suspect after tonight’s devastation. I can already tell that if Elite XC is still in business long enough they will reschedule the Shamrock fight. They should have used Grim to beat Kimbo down. I think Grim is just as marketable. Anyone see Jereds face when the ref stopped the fight? That was the look of a man loosing allot of money, and worried that one of his only bankable stars is now exposed as a joke. Unless they do a huge merger between Dream, Affliction and Pro Elite. I think their days are numbered.

I loved the fact that Kimbo, in a haze, went after Troy Waugh (the ref) as if he was Seth and then came to realize the fight was over and Troy was not Seth.

Priceless.

Did you see during the Kimbo/Seth Fight Jared yelling at the ref? It was during the fight replay! It was when they showed the replay it over and over again watch Jared behind the cage yell at the ref. You can perfectly see him yell..“It was in the back of the head!” HE LOOKED LIKE HE WAS GONNA CRY! Check it out! Thats big news! Get a video of it! Do you think he wanted Kimbo to win? HAHAHA Love the site!

That pink haired dude faught like a scared child cornered by a bully in the hallway. Kimbo showed he has no chin tonight. The reason people hate on Kimbo is because he was rewarded for beating up fat jabronies and filming it on the internet. I mean first off that is against the law and really makes elitexc look immoral to reward a grown man for acting like a teenager. The other reason people hate on Kimbo is because he is so overhyped. He has never faught a decent opponet and still hasn’t. bY decent I mean worthy of headlineing the show as he does. Can you image Kimbo vs Arlovski or Fedor or even a pink haired light heavyweight that was 0-2 in UFC? He’d get killed.

I am impressed at your using ‘an’ before a word that starts with h.

yes, if one pronounces hj as aech – jay it works better with an

better than a kick in the balls at any rate

I watched the fight card, and I loved that Kimbo Slice got beat. I wasn’t even going to watch that fight, but everyone else wanted too. I’m glad I did and I hope the hype of Slice is finally over.

i’ve always had this rule: never get knocked out by a guy with pink hair. of course, i’ve also had a rule that says never get knocked out by a guy with a big bushy santa claus beard.

you can’t win ’um all.

Not to make any excuses for Kimbo, but anyone who knows the fight game knows you are more susceptible to being knocked out early in a fight when you come into the ring cold. Kimbo had no sweat on his face or body and was obviously still pissed about having the carpet pulled out from under him. If they fight again (which they will), kimbo will beat him. You could see Petruzelli was terrified and landed a lucky shot…He was like a frightened little kid who threw a defensive punch and opened his eyes and the bully (KIMBO) was laying on the ground. The only guy more surprised than Kimbo was Petruzelli. Another point, anyone can take a shot to various parts of the head, but the point of the jaw, the temple, the ear and the back of the head are most vulnerable. Anybody who gets hit on the point of the chin is going to be rocked. The effect is amplified as it vibrates up your jawbone. (the cut on the eye came when he was down and getting hit…the shot that hurt him was a short jab to point of the chin. That said, I don’t believe Kimbo is in the top 10 of MMA heavyweights…but he should beat most stand-up guys like Petruzelli. I didn’t think Kimbo would ever lose by K.O. I figured a submission would be his first loss. Remember this too…nobody goes undefeated in MMA.. There are just too many variables in this type of fight. Until a guy comes along who is bigger than everyone, hits harder, has a granite chin, is better than Gracie in Jiu-Jitsu, and has more stamina than the world’s best marathon runner, we’ll never see a guy go 49 and 0 like Marciano. To many dimensions to be unbeatable at this sport. Kimbo will have learned something from this loss. You have to focus on the opponent in front of you. He was clearly bothered by the whole “pull-out by Shamrock” thing. You heard him, just prior to the fight, say something to the effect “this shouldn’t happen in a professional organization”…and he’s right. I’m sure if he faces the same situation again, he won’t take on any replacement opponent. Too risky and nothing to gain. If he beats Petruzelli, everybody says, “big deal” if he loses, it’s an even bigger deal. Kimbo had to put his ego aside and be a professional…a professional wouldn’t have taken that fight like that. It makes you look like you’re desperate and you need it to be the other way around. Tell them “you need me” the people want to see me. Kimbo could call the shots up until this fight…now he may be forced to take fights he doesn’t want.

My guess is Dana White is laughing his ass off Elite’s poster boy was destroyed by at best a B level LHW. The Kimbo mystique is dead and he is now been shown for what he is A street fighter who didn’t deserve anywhere near the hype that he has been given. Elite’s mistake was putting him in with Seth in the first place they should have put him in with AA cause a loss to him would not have been nearly as much a big blow as this one.

KIMBO SLICE WILL EAT YOU

by Ash Ketchum on Oct 6, 2008 12:28 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

The larger Kimbo Slice comes charging in like a raged bull. Fight or flee? Seth Petruzelli decides to do both. With his left hand on the cage, contemplating climbing out and running away like my six year old girl, he first decides to throw a right. Somewhere through a tangled black bush that covers Kimbo’s chin, Seth’s right hand cuts through like a macchette and connects on Slice’s “easy button”. The big man eats canvas. Seth spins his right arm like a helicopter propeller, barely missing Kimbo’s head with each rotation… until… he finally connects with another… and then another. The ref is forced to step in before Seth mangles Kimbo’s face in a frightened panic which has increased his hand speed three fold. The fight is over. If one could ever call it a fight.
