MMA Quick Quote: Andrei Arlovski was ready to fight Kimbo Slice

andrei arlovski

"The fight went about the way that I expected, but my trainer wanted me to use my wrestling and jiu-jitsu skills more. They didn't want to see me on my back. It was a good stop for him. I was ready to go. I looked at the ref but it was over.... I will fight any opponent. I was ready to fight Kimbo when I heard Shamrock got hurt. It's a great honor for any of the fighters on tonight's card to fight on CBS. It was a great opportunity to fight for Affliction and Elite XC."

-- Andrei Arlovski shares his thoughts after he defeated Roy Nelson via second round technical knockout at Elite XC: "Heat" at the BankAtlantic Center in Sunrise. Fla., tonight. Ken Shamrock was scratched before the main event and Seth Petruzelli was brought in to replace him at the last minute. "The Silverback" stopped Slice in the opening seconds of round one. Go figure.

I bet when the Kimbo-Shamrock fight gets set up again, that the odds will be closer to even.

Kimbo got smoked! Thompson should get to fight the guy who won.

After seeing this, maybe Ken had a better chance than I thought.

I bet Dana White is calling Seth right now to congratulate him and offer him a fight in the UFC, for ruining EliteXC’s main draw in 14 seconds.

Another Pitbull win!!!
They said no to AA to protect Kimbo, and he gets humiliated anyways, wow.

Since when do they stand the fight up when someone has side control? AA was being dominated on the ground until they randomly stood them up… AA better hope his next fight isnt against Barnett or Fedor, he will get KILLED!!!!

by Harrison on Oct 5, 2008 1:31 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

They will sometimes stand up the fight if the fat tub in question is not doing anything to submit his opponent, improve his position, or at the very least throw a few strikes. I had no problem with the stand up. I have seen more questionable stand ups, even in the ufc. Example- Cro-Cop vs. Gonzaga

by naturalshadow on Oct 5, 2008 2:30 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I want you to find me a fight in the UFC when they stood a fight up when someone was dominating in side control… you don’t always have to be active if you have a dominant position… see Couture vs Sylvia. Couture had his back the entire first round and wasnt doing a whole lot, but had a dominant position so the ref let them go, AA had no answer for fat boy’s ground game.

by Harrison on Oct 5, 2008 3:30 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Harrison, I’ll try to find the fight but recently there was one where the two fighters were stood up and it was questioned. To be honest it depends less on the organization than it does on the refs. Some refs are amazing and will stop any stalling and some make terrible judgement calls lol like Mirgloiotta makes terrible judgements calls but also will stand a fighter up or break up a stall mate relatively early. I’m glad I didn’t have to watch Big Country lay and pray for an entire round although yes it shot his chances at winning. But had they not been stood up? I see the outcome being the same.

by Cogito Ergo Sum on Oct 6, 2008 4:07 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

They stood it up because Nelson was unable to do anything with the dominant position! Although, I do believe the Ref should have given it another 5 secs or so, just to be on the safe side. But, this isn’t wrestling! And no way was Nelson gonna sub AA! On the ground, Nelson lost most of his striking power. AA will end up fighting Barnett and possibly Fedor. I think he’ll beat Barnett for sure! As for Fedor, AA can beat him. But, Fedor will most likely win. I’ll tell you this, If Fedor did beat AA, I would definitely believe at that point, Fedor would be the P4P best in the world! Some would question how I don’t already believe that. It’s mainly due to the majority of Fedor’s opponents. Anyway, I would love to see any of those fights!

AA lost to Tim Sylvia… TWICE. Since when does a win over AA make you the best P4P??

by Harrison on Oct 5, 2008 3:31 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

he also beat him in under 2 minutes…….so tim has reeeally only one up on him.

by brendan on Oct 5, 2008 1:29 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

i glad arlovski didnt get to fight kimbo, kimbo would have been the first death in a major mma promotion and that is not something we need to see especially on cbs.

war seth!

just kiddin

by rhys on Oct 5, 2008 12:31 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

john, how much did you bet to win $500?! Are you in need of 500 that badly? Because you musta put up at least 2 grand. I’m sorry but that’s stupid brother

by Anthony on Oct 5, 2008 12:34 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

No doubt. I won $10. Heck if I’m throwin down more than $50 down.

Arlovski is a beast and Affliction is wasting him. Hes got 1 fight left on his contract. If it’s not against Fedor, they f’d up.

by Craig on Oct 5, 2008 12:56 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

What kind of dumb question is that? Your betting on AA here, there is no doubt that you are going to see some pay. John just put some good money on a safe bet for a decent return. I’d rather not bet a low amount of say $50 to gain $10, if I did that I’d probably just bet my friends $50 and get equal pay. If your going to bet online you should make it worth your while.

Not a bad show by AA but I thought he would have finished him in the 1st.

by Calgary MLS on Oct 5, 2008 1:07 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

That fat bastard can take a shot though, anyways Andre finished him off in style, leg kick, upper cut & whamo big right………good night!!!! good finish!!!

I wonder if Kimbo would have lasted any longer vs. Arlovski??

by Procannonfodder on Oct 5, 2008 1:12 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

How could he not??

by Brandon on Oct 5, 2008 3:23 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I’m glad it was Seth and not Andrei; it would be too easy to dismiss Kimbo getting knocked out by the former UFC champ. Much better it be done by a former Tuffer.

by JB on Oct 5, 2008 2:01 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

AA is gonna get murdered by Fedor or Barnett as Big country proved tonight Barnett is a lvl or two above AA.

by Khaos_Warrior on Oct 5, 2008 2:42 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Not really, being his size as a tub of lard. Its pretty hard to press a guy the size of Big Country off of your chest. But if you noticed, Big ol Country had two arms to AA’s one and still couldn’t product the Kimura. He was working so hard on controling AA that he knew to comit to the Kimura would have made him lose control. AA proved without a doubt that he can keep it cool while on the ground. On top of that he has proven that if you don’t finish it before the bell rings, he is going to hurt you at the begining of the next round. Also AA fights to the level of his opponents, the guy has unbelievable skill and I’ll still be betting for him to beat Barnett, I’m still a little worried about Fedor but I won’t back down cause AA is at least number 3 hw

FAKE! FAKE! FAKE!
The Kimbo / Shamrock deal was a sham. EXC knew Ken might win and ruin the Kimbo “cash machine” so they set up a fake injury and stuck supposed “loser” SP in there and got the surprise of their life. EXC set it all up but forgot to tell SP to lose. Seth ruined everything. The giveaway: 1. The phony push at the weigh-ins. Totally fake. 2. Ken’s fake ass stitches and (poor acting) explanation before the fight. 3. EXC fake move of going to doctor for comment and then the doctor giving the way too wordy explanation about Ken’s eye, and even saying “yea, I checked the eye and there WAS bruising around the cut.” 4. Frank Shamrock giving his fake overreaction to Ken’s situation.
Talk about a dive in EXC’s money market: Did you see the depressing looks on the fans faces when Kimba lost? That was $$$$$$$ going down the drain. EXC sucks, UFC rules!!

AA would have murdered kimbo slice! i hope he gets title shot soon! Way o shine Arlovski!

by Sir_alan on Oct 5, 2008 8:43 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Look if your aa having 300lb tub with low center of gravity will be a bitch to get off you. And the tubs take down was really aa just messing up his own. Granted a more quality fighter might have inflicted damage but alot of the top heavys are willing to trade be it barnett or fedor so i think they would be good fights. As for tubs just goes to show like rothwell fighting in the ifl shows a diffence in talent when you fight the top guys from the ufc and pride.

by luke on Oct 5, 2008 9:49 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

EXC would have gotten off lightly had they allowed AA to kill, i mean fight, kimbo instead of letting seth knock out not only slice, but EXC’s entire future as well.

I almost forgot how dangerous The Pitbull is when he fits. His hand speed for such a large fighter is excellent, and his ability to move and find angles is solid. I just wish he could get more exposure and get more decent fights. The fact he was fighting an over weight, slow but larger guy with some fighting skills isn’t really the type of fight I would like to see him fight. But at this point, since he has been shut out of fighting the best (who are in the UFC) I guess I’ll take what I can get.

Andrei Arlovski is my favorite fighter, and will always be. If it wasn’t for Arlovski being on the fight card, I would have watched the re-run of Jackson vs. Griffin on Spike. Arlovski is the man, and I can’t wait for another fight with Arlovski in the main event. Whether is Fedor or whom ever else.

oh my god, if AA would have fought kimbo, the fight would have ended in 4 seconds instead of 14! AA would have slaughtered slice!

by B_Hos on Oct 5, 2008 5:26 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Big Country just provided the blue print on how to beat AA. Any good wrestler with adequate stand-up will now beat him. All they have to do is take him down and GNP. I hate to say it, but even Tito could beat AA. He disappointed me tonight.
