Michael Bisping: Anderson Silva is Anderson 'only human' and 'anything is possible'

michael bisping

Props: Telegraph

Quoteworthy:

"There is a lot of talk about a fight with Anderson Silva, and there is almost a pressure at times with the overall feeling that I'm being rushed into it. For me, the bottom line is simply to keep winning my fights, and then working very hard on my techniques between times. That's what I want, I just want to earn the right to fight for the belt, be it against Anderson Silva, or whoever it is. I have had a successful career, I've been beaten once by split decision, I don't want to sound arrogant, but of course I want to fight all-comers. When the time comes, I'll be ready. Silva does have a pretty complete game on the ground. His weak point is wrestling, which is becoming one of my strong points now. Anderson's only human; anything is possible."

Michael Bisping talks about a possible match up with UFC Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva in the future. Of course, "The Count" needs to take care of business against Chris Leben at UFC 89: "Leben vs. Bisping" at The National Indoor Arena (NIA) in Birmingham, England, on October 18. He is then rumored to have been tabbed as one of two coaches on the next season of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF), which is themed "U.S. vs. U.K." In short, Bisping still has some work ahead of him to earn a shot against "The Spider" for his 185-pound. That is, of course, unless Patrick Cote upsets the applecart on October 25.

Check out the video interview with Bisping after the jump.

Props to Bisping for not rushing his title aspiration. Then again, who would really be in a rush to step in a cage with the spider?

Bisping’s wrestling is improving and that will help his overall game a lot!

I’m not a bisping fan but I think It’s gonna be ko or tko victory over leben..

OFF TOPIC: I have a question, does anybody here knows for a fact if eddie Alvarez’s jits is any good? I know he definitely hits hard but what about the sub game? thanks in advance.

I assure you that Eddie Alvarez is going to be very tough for Diaz to submit!

Why is Anderson’s wrestling weak? He took Nate the Great down and pounded him out and Nate’s wresting is his strong point. Franklin took him down once and he popped right back up. Hendo took him down once and couldn’t do anything but hold him in one spot. Lutter had success wrestling, but people forget Silva needed surgery on both of his knees that he put off til after that fight. So where is his bad wrestling at? His training partners say he is as strong as the HWs.

by EazyEismydad on Oct 4, 2008 12:38 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Yeah I’m pretty sure people base his wrestling skills on the Lutter fight. Thats the only fight he has really looked in danger in. If Hendo couldnt do much to him with his wrestling then I doubt that Bisping will.

Fighting is all about self-belief and Bisping needs something to cling to so he can believe he can bear Silva. Right now everybody else in the division is the same.

Listen to Cote when he says he thinks he has a chance because nobody has ever knocked him out. That was the same with Leben. Didnt work too well.

kayriss: "Anderson Silva allowed Travis Lutter to take him down in their fight at UFC 67 so that he could beat him on the ground to avenge Jose “Pele” Landi-Jons, Anderson’s training partner who lost to Lutter via armbar."

If thats true then thats pretty crazy. Its one thing Silva being able to beat everybody with ease at middleweight, but for him to just decide how he is gonna win like that is insane.

I was about to point that out. Nate had a very tough time sinking in his doubles and when he went for singles Silva defense made him look sloppy. But when nate finally got Silva where he wanted, it went into a scramble and Silva was able to pull off a beautiful foot switch from a backwards position..(something Ive only seen state champion wrestler or comparable level able to pull off because of the risk of getting slammed or tripped)Lutter wasn’t wrestling it was more like very sloppy jits take downs. less riskier then going for shoot…which he attempted once and almost caught a flying knee for it. Franklin and hendo took him down alot easier but like you said…nothing happened. while bisping on the other hand could not deal with hamill’s take downs (with hamill’s knees hurt. while franklin was able to stop hamill in his tracks and im sure hendo would be able to hand hamill a grappler style asswhoopin. Bisping should take his time for sure and take on some top flight MW elites before touching or thinking silva.

Agreed Silva has solid takedown defense and if he’s taken down his BJJ is a threat and he’s never been hurt on his back…. just not an intelligent observation from Bisping

this guys hasn’t fought a single great fight and to think he could stand a chance vs silva is just ridiculous.

leban is going to tool this dude.
time for dana to find another UK guy to milk

i see leben winning this fight as well. i dont dislike bisping or think he is lacking talent but i like lebens perspective on fighting. he’s there to murder you. bisping cant pop a grape. i say leben, 2nd round ko.

by allamerican on Oct 4, 2008 1:11 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

anyone thinking leben is gonna tool bisping is having a laugh.ok so leben has kod guys who stood in front of him martin/sakara but was schooled by a good bjj guy(mcdonald)hammered by a great striker(anderson but who hasnt)almost outwrestles by a good wrestler and natural ww(fiavoranti)outwrestled by another ww(koschek)and stopped by a natural lw(ok it was by a cut)but youve got to put this into perspective leben is a glorified brawler with a great chin great power and an average ground game and he wouldnt have gotten as far as he has without his great personality, and i like the guy.bisping will de too fast and too accurate easy ud or third round sub for leben

I think Bisping will win, but I can’t say I don’t like Leban’s chances, afterall Hamill stood toe to toe with Bisping and cut him up… I think Leban’s got more standup skill than Hammill. This fight won’t hit the ground often unless there’s a body lying there from a KO.

by THORAZINE on Oct 4, 2008 10:34 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Bisping will win. Get your wallets out he’s a good bet.

by Rilly on Oct 5, 2008 5:52 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Good interview, Bisping shows more respect & less of his ego in each interview that he does. Looking forward to 18 Oct and seeing him beat Leben but he really isn’t ready to be stepping up to a title fight whoever the MW champ is. Needs to fight at least one top tier MW before he is mentioned in a title fight.

“Anything is possible”…….

Possibility No.1- Anderson smashes Bisping all over the cage. Result=KO

Possibility No.2- Anderson smashes Bisping all over the cage. Result=KO

lol very plausible…myth confirmed there.

I think that Bisping is going to win against Leben. He is in great shape, and his standup is better than that of Lebens. Unless Leben has really improved technically in his stand up, I m thinking Bisping is going to pick him apart. On the ground Im not sure who is better, but Im thinking there are pretty close. Just my observations!!! Anything is possible!

Bisping will not hang with Silva. Come on Leben!

by theTRON on Oct 4, 2008 1:24 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I don’t think he’ll be ready anytime soon. He needs another couple of years and to train with some top quality guys. I’m sure training with Rampage will help. I don’t even spend time thinking about how a possible Silva Bisping fight would play out. I’m looking at the Leben fight first. We can re-evaluate afterwards.

Interestingly enough, fellow Brit, Lee Murray was the last guy to go the distance with the Spider. (I know Chonan subbed Anderson.)

by RobH86 on Oct 4, 2008 1:35 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Sounds like Bisping is trying to hype it up, but won’t want to face silva anytime soon with his ( i just wanna keep winning) then i’ll fight silva or whoever… he knows he’ll get killed so this way he leaves himself head up..

winner between leben and bisping will get a shot no doubt, but i dont see it being a good thing for either guys health

His weakness is the ground he beat Dan Henderson and Travis Luter
on the ground……COME ON

Cote couldnt stand much chance against Bisping so why not Visping v Silva? he has already beat Marquart and Hendo.

didnt realise the telegraph covered MMA – theres an interview with rampage on there where he talks a little about ibarra (sp?)

by ben on Oct 4, 2008 3:02 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Anderson Silva got his ass whooped in the 1st round against Dan Henderson on the ground ,the 2nd round Dan got caught shooting in and that was pretty much the match. So no,he did not beat Dan on the ground it was the result of a lazy shoot where he got caught. With all that said,Anderson would beat Bisping standing or on the ground,it does not matter.

by scott on Oct 4, 2008 3:08 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

bisping’s going to wait tii anderson retires to challenge for any title

by McArthur on Oct 4, 2008 3:10 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

If you think getting taken down fairly easy makes his ground game good then your just…………………………..

Anyways Bisping still needs a good 3 fights before Anderson and Anderson has like 3 people lined up to fight him pretty much, Okami after he wins then Nate+Hendo will be a knocking assuming Hendo beats Franklin at LHW So yeah after those guys get their shots then Bisping will get his assuming he can pull 3 more wins off. We will see how good Bisping is soon enough and how much power he has in his hands.

by Khaos_Warrior on Oct 4, 2008 3:43 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Bisping couldn’t even put Hamill away! So how would he stack up to Anderson?

by HitmanBert on Oct 4, 2008 5:05 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I think Leben is going to expose the fact that that Bisping has no real KO power…To say he has no real ground game I think is crazy. I think his wrestling (Team Quest for many years) will outshine Bispings jits. I look foward to seeing Leben put the hurt on the count.

by Da Monkey on Oct 5, 2008 9:04 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I think Bisping will come out trying to put Leben away early! That’s when he’ll realize that Leben don’t drop easily! What Silva did to him was a first! And Bisping is no Silva! Finally, Leben will buckle him with a nasty over-hand right! My guess is that Leben will sneak in another 2 or 3 shots before the Ref can even stop the fight! Oh, and, I think this will all happen in the first round!

by Dana's a crossdresser on Oct 5, 2008 5:30 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I think the winner of Bisping vs. Leben will get Marquardt, and the winner of that will get Anderson Silva.
