UFC Quick Quote: Marcus Davis is going to float and sting against Paul Kelly at UFC 89

"I think his plan will be to throw big thumping punches to get me to clinch with him, I'm just not gonna do it.... I've got the longer reach, I'm an inch taller, I'm gonna smash him with jabs, he's gonna reach for me, I'm gonna move. Every time he drops his head I'm gonna smash him with an uppercut and every time he straightens up I'm gonna smash him with punches. He's gonna be chasing me around the ring, every time he swings I won't be there. I can not only hit hard coming forward, I can hit hard on the slide. A lot of people have a tough time punching hard on the move, but that's all I've been working on in this camp. I've just been working on throwing bombs while on the move. It's gonna be a frustrating fight for him, I'm gonna catch every time he reaches, every time he gets desperate, he'll be chasing as I lead the fight and that's when I'll finish it."

-- Marcus Davis provides SetantaSports.com with his gameplan for Paul Kelly at UFC 89: "Bisping vs. Leben," which takes place at The National Indoor Arena (NIA) in Birmingham, England, on October 18. "The Irish Hand Grenade" also indicates that he is still not 100 percent because of a shoulder injury that he suffered prior to the unanimous decision loss -- his first in 11 fights -- to Mike Swick earlier this year.

or did he….

I still can’t belive that he lost to Mike Quick S.. he gets to the top of the hill and gets knocked down.

Marcus should not entirely rely on his boxing game.. hopefully his jits is improving. He was burnt before because of those s#%T!

Forget the JIts! Davis does not want to be under Kelly!

by john on Oct 4, 2008 11:46 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yeah man! Marcus is going to finish Kelly off! I like both fighters, Davies was my favourite fighter until his bad performance at UFC 85, but Im still rooting for him against Kelly. Im British and we all love both fighters here!

How quick we are to jump off the bandwagon just because of a bad performance/loss

by Ian on Oct 3, 2008 1:42 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

he was injured

bandwagon? Sorry, but this is MMA, not WWE. I like nearly every fighter for who they are, but as far as un-bias favourites go, if you lose I am going to support you less than if you keep on winning. If you call that “not being loyal” then I lol at you for being loyal to someone you dont even know. If there is someone you do know in person, then of course one fight isnt going to make a difference.

i cant wait for this fight!! kelly is a bad ass but i want davis to win. both are warriors. i say davis knocks him down with a right then pounds his head through the canvas. gotta go with anyone who trains at psityotung(hope im even close on the spelling!). anyone pumped for florian vs. stephenson??

by allamerican on Oct 3, 2008 1:49 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Kelly will win by UD. He showed some awesome top control against taylor. All he will need to do is get the takedown and from the looks of it he doesn’t shoot from far. He’s got a good enough chin to clinch up and use trips so Marcus is gonna be on the bottom get cut up with elbows.

by NameNotRequired on Oct 3, 2008 1:57 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

No one at that wieght has a good enough chin to not get knocked out by Davis. If Davis and catch him with a good shot it will be over.

Both solid fighters but I gotta go with Davis on this one.

But if Kelly can stay alusive and stay away from the bricks attached to Davis’ wrists, and get the takedown he can win.

by belfort_fan on Oct 3, 2008 2:23 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Definetely, that is his only chance though. Davis is dangerous because he is fast, which is were alot of his power comes from, plus he is getting much much better on the ground.

The thing I want to see is how strong Davis is in this fight. Kelly has a great top ground game because he is so strong, Davis is really strong too so it should be interesting to see.

alot of people i know think that this Kelly is just some can for Davis to demolish. NOT THE CASE. Kelly is a very good fighter who stands a great chance in this fight, but like you said he only has one option to win this fight.

Davis couldnt even get Skeletor Swick off of him when he was on his back. If Taylor gets Davis down, he will be there until the fight gets stopped, or the round ends.

by ViolentMike on Oct 3, 2008 3:20 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Exactly violentmike, i don’t see davis getting kelly off of him. And like i said, i trust kellys chin will hold up long enough.

by NameNotRequired on Oct 3, 2008 3:44 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yeah Kelly is so strong from top. i dont see Davis getting back to his feet is he gets taken down.

by belfort_fan on Oct 3, 2008 4:39 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I meant Paul Kelly, not Paul Taylor.

Ever since those 2 Brits fought, I often get their names confused….

by ViolentMike on Oct 3, 2008 5:01 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Haha i do the same thing.

by belfort_fan on Oct 3, 2008 5:16 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

cant wait for this fight! kellys a warrior but i see davis winning this one. i think davis will rock him with a right, then put his fist through the back of kelly’s head on the ground for the finish. got potential to be fight of the night though! ANYONE PUMPED FOR FLORIAN VS. STEVENSON??? i know i am!

by allamerican on Oct 3, 2008 1:52 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Yeah Florian vs stevenson is going to be a huge fight. i will have to take stevenson in this fight because ive always like him.

by belfort_fan on Oct 3, 2008 2:25 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

what the… it didnt show up for my first comment until now. whatever.

by allamerican on Oct 3, 2008 1:53 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

i see this fight panning out the same as the kelly/taylor fight with kelly taking down davis and keeping him there mixing in some good gnp.ok davis has better submissions but his scrambling isnt good enough to get him back onto his feet.if he cant get up against swick hows he gonna do it against paul.and i dont buy into the injuries thing.i bet 80% of all fighters go in with some kind of injury/niggles due to the intensity of their training.and theres no wat they can pull out due to the £

by scott on Oct 3, 2008 2:00 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Yeah i agree 90%. i dont buy into the injury crap either. Davis lost a goog fight fair and squar.

by belfort_fan on Oct 3, 2008 2:26 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Davis was part of one of the best matches in UFC history last year at UFC 75. He was on the verge of defeat at the hands of Paul Taylor, but he pulled off the victory via – would you have expected this – an armbar out of nowhere. I expect this to be a war, but Davis should win even with a hurt shoulder.

by Carano4VicePresident on Oct 3, 2008 3:07 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Marcus Davis has the best hands in the 170 pound division. I think hes good enuff off of his back if he gets taken down. I say Davis KO in the 2nd round.

allright this has nothing to do with this story but i found something awesome out and its amazing and it has the potential to be great okay we already know that bj penn is moving up to face georges st pierre for the welterweight title at ufc 93 (yes thats already decided not anounced yet) but what ive been hearing some big news thats theres a possiblity of a contender fight that same night due to people wondering wether matt serra is going to come back because he had a suprisingly good fan base so the deal is if they have on it would be matt serra versus Karo Parysian, thiago alves or and this would be a great fight diego sanchez.no word on weather this is true though only a possiblity

by matt on Oct 3, 2008 5:17 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Marcus Davis is my favorite MMA fighter. I just hope one day I can save up enough money to watch him live. I wish I had a better job.

by sdow on Oct 3, 2008 9:15 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I’m hoping Davis beats Kelly and Lytle beats Taylor, setting up a Davis vs. Lytle fight.
