Roy Nelson: 'I put myself ahead of Arlovski'

Props: ESPN.com
Quoteworthy:
"I put myself ahead of Arlovski for the pure fact that I bring a more complete package. He's great at what he does. He's a phenomenal striker, but lax at grappling.... My physique works for me. I consider myself like 75 percent of the Americans out there. I give 100 percent. And I like food.... I'm looking for that big endorsement, like Taco Bell, Pizza Hut or McDonald's. Maybe after this fight, I'll do a cookbook."
Roy Nelson feels that he has the edge in his fight against Andrei Arlovski tomorrow night in the Elite XC fight that is co-promoted by Affliction MMA at the BankAtlantic Center in Sunrise, Florida. "Big Country" also has his sights set on some big name sponsors who may tune in to the "Saturday Night Fights" broadcast on CBS. Good luck on both fronts, Roy.

And by “complete package” you mean package of cookie dough, right?
by DDT on Oct 3, 2008 11:35 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
and he’s talking about deals with taco bell and McDonalds. If you own a fast food chain would you like people to think that if you eat their food you end up looking like nelson? hahaha.

I dont think there is a fatter fighter out there that is as good as Nelson. Id like to see Arlovski give him a gut shot just to see how he takes it.

Butterbean is not a good mma fighter.
by belfort_fan on Oct 3, 2008 2:11 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Yeah I’d love to see him take a shot to the gut. The slow-mo replay would be funny. Andrei’s fist would probably disappear in the mass of fat. It would look horrendous.

Big Country will eat Arlovski. Literally eat him

Great picture!!! I don’t think Roy has a very good perspective of AA’s ground game… After he turns his head into a tomato I hope Sambos his ass. AA via submission!

Absolutely Jet. Roy has a great personality. Roy Nelson may not be the greatest MMA fighter of all time, but he is a legit HW that can get the job done. But against Arlovski, it certainly won’t be easy.
One thing Nelson has going for him is that his opponenents never want Nelson to mount them. That could be close to an unescapable position.
Arlovski should win this fight relatively easily. I am hoping to see Nelson with a break out performance. He can do so by simply going the distance with Arlovski and making the fight competitive. He doesn’t need to get a W in order to garner himself some attention.

Lol, Nelson is a funny guy. Arlovski will destroy him, but I like his easy-going attitude and respect for Andrei.
by WebGarden on Oct 3, 2008 11:09 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
WebGarden – We’ll see soon enough. We all said the same thing about Liddell his last time out. He’d make it look easy. And we all know how that ended.

Andrei is my absolute favorite HW. but i have some wierd feeling that Nelson is going to suprise him. now ive said that about his last two apponents. but i sure hope AA beats the hell out of Nelson. Arlovski tko round 2.
by belfort_fan on Oct 3, 2008 2:14 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I do hope it’s a joke and he’s being funny, because nobody on the planet puts him ahead of AA. And if that’s what he thinks is all AA brings, he’s in for an even longer night than I thought

They should definitely have his comment in the title be “I bring a more complete package” With that picture, it makes sense. haha

Why is anyone under the pretense that this will be anything but Arlovski handing out a total beatdown to this Roy Nelson clown. Who gives a crap if you were a big-time IFL fighter. So was Rothwell and Arlovski used him as a punching bag.
by Graham on Oct 3, 2008 11:31 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
I’m pretty sure 90% of the posts ive read have said Arlovski will hand out a beatdown
by kayriss on Oct 3, 2008 11:35 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
He will for sure. i just get very nervious for my favorite fighters when they compete.
by belfort_fan on Oct 3, 2008 2:16 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
please don’t underestimate this guy. i’m not saying he’s going to win, but he is one tough guy. he lost a split decision to ben rothwell and the pitbull beat big ben. i’m just saying this guy is tough and can hit.
by Kevin H on Oct 3, 2008 9:31 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
either way you gotta like this guy. He’s a gamer which gives him a thumbs up in my book. How many other people would take a fight with AA on short notice?
by midwestbred on Oct 4, 2008 12:57 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Are you serious…look at his belly…he’s not gonna win against Andrei with that thing!
by VLARA on Oct 3, 2008 11:35 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
If Roy did win, I’d have to call it the biggest upset in history! Right up there with Spongebob Square Pants beating Wanderlei Silva!
by Dana's a crossdresser on Oct 3, 2008 11:54 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Andrei Arlovski losing a fight to anyone would not be the biggest upset in MMA. Andrei has proven that he is beatable, and is not always ther 100% mentally.
If Hung Man Choi beat Fedor, that would hands down have been the biggest upset in MMA history. But a Nelson win is much more possible. That’s why is only +350 or so. Anderson SIlva is a much bigger favorite over Cote…
by ViolentMike on Oct 3, 2008 2:44 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I agree 100% if Choi(1-0) would have beat Fedor. And Arlovski is definatly beatable. Jake O’brien took him down and held him there for a minute. dont get me wrong AA is my favorite HW.
by belfort_fan on Oct 3, 2008 3:17 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Sorry buddy, but you’re wrong about that Korean freak beating Fedor being the biggest potential upset in MMA. I argue that if that Brazilian freak Zuluzino (sp?) beat Fedor it would have been a bigger upset. That guy had fewer qualifications than Tank Abbott, and that’s not easy to do.
by Graham on Oct 3, 2008 5:40 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Sorry buddy, I dont think it would be the biggest upset in mma. i think it would be a huge upset. it would be a bigger upset than if that fat ass beat Fedor.

Yes, as far as being a fat fuck, Nelson is ahead of Arlovski.

I know this is a little off topic but does anyone think that Georges St. Pierre is very likely to beat BJ Penn? I want to know from anyone that has distinct MMA knowledge of both fighters to explain who will most likely win.
by sdow on Oct 3, 2008 12:42 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
You’re making the fatal assumption that people on internet forums are experts on anything MMA. Just go with your guy, which is Roy Nelson’s case would be a sure thing!
by Graham on Oct 3, 2008 1:25 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
GSP’s size and stength advantage should make him the betting favorite to win this fight, although not by much. Maybe like a -140 to a +110 is the farthest apart I can picture these odds opening at.
If you don’t understand odds either, GSP has a little less than a 60% chance at winning and BJ has about a 40% chance
by ViolentMike on Oct 3, 2008 2:50 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Pretty sure he just disrespect Andrei by saying he is “a more complete package”. You don’t disrespect Andrei. I am pretty sure Andre is a better grappler as well as being a much better striker. Oh and who was Roy Nelson’s last loss to? Ben Rothwell, who Andrei just demolished (which makes this fight pretty irrelevant IMO).
by Ballam on Oct 3, 2008 12:49 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
clearly you dont follow MMA…that formula doesnt work and has been proven all through 07 and 08….

plus roy realy won that fight aganst ben rothwell
by roy on Oct 3, 2008 1:25 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Roy has 4 wins by submission in 15 career fights
Andrei has 3 wins by submisssion in 19 career fights.
Just bringing the facts.
With that said, I see Arlovski winning by TKO unless Nelson can keep Andrei on the ground.
by ViolentMike on Oct 3, 2008 2:54 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Actually I have been following MMA pretty heavily for several years, not that it matters. This fight is simply irrelevant and Nelson is not on the level that Arlovski is. Everybody will see this on Saturday. I’ve been wrong before, but I feel pretty confident saying that this fight makes about as much sense as Kimbo Slice vs Ken Shamrock.
by Ballam on Oct 3, 2008 3:00 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
i agree, it’ll be interesting to see how the IFL champ compares to other top HW outside the UFC that is.
by midwestbred on Oct 4, 2008 1:01 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
That is definately true, because Wanderlei Silva lost to Chuck Liddell and Chuck Liddell lost to Rampage and Wanderlei beat Rampage twice.
VERY GOOD POINT.

Yeah Country Boy is a more complete package; more complete if you consider waffles, syrup, fried chicken, mashed potatos, greens, corn bread, gravey, more gravey, more and more gravey. All rolled together in that JELLO BELLY, then yeah he is a more complete package.

Big Roy should have signed those endorsement deals before this fight. I don’t think any company will be interested in him after Arlovski puts a beating on him.
by DrPepper on Oct 3, 2008 1:56 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Roy is gonna call his right hand the Whopper and his left hand the McDLT. Finally his ground and pound will be named the Baconater. Wow Roy is gonna be rich.

judging roy by his body, is crazy, he is a good fighter, good enough to beat the pit bull i dont know, but fedor is not ripped and i dont think anyone would doubt his talent
by lee on Oct 3, 2008 2:56 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
I don’t know. This fight has me crazy curious. Now, I don’t think Roy is on Andrei’s level, however, he is deceptively quick for a fatass. I wouldn’t be betting the farm on Arlovski. If he gets caught, like he did against Tim, it could be a crazy night.
by JB on Oct 3, 2008 3:32 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
He’s also not a fat ass either.
The guy who took BO CANTRELL to a Decision thinks he’s gonna beat Arlovski, that’s hilarious.
