Travis Lutter: 'Patrick Cote is going to get murdered' by Anderson Silva

Props: MMARated.com
Quoteworthy:
"Cote is going to get murdered. Anderson Silva is really, really good and Cote is basically a Leben fight for Anderson."
Former UFC top middleweight contender Travis Lutter shares his thoughts on the UFC 90: "Silva vs. Cote" main event at the Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Ill., on October 25. Lutter has competed against both Silva and Cote. In fact, he made short work of the Canadian at The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 4 Finale with a fight-ending armbar, which earned him an opportunity to challenge the "Spider" for his 185-pound belt that he eventually went on to lose. "The Serial Killer" also shot down an earlier Sherdog.com report that he would return to the Octagon at UFC 91 against Joe Doerksen. That match up will not happen.

More important then Lutter’s idiotic (but truthful) comments. Lutter said that he has not re-signed with the UFC. His goal is to get back to the UFC, but he probably needs a few wins in smaller shows before being invited back. This contradicts reports that Lutter would fight at UFC 91. Lutter said that he will NOT take part in the card or any UFC cards in the forceable future (not by his choice of course).

I posted this early yesterday, thought the ore interesting part was lutter going to do smaller shows. what a fall from grace. he is a good fighter that needs to really work on his cardio.

you know, I usually don’t get upset, but I’m here everyday, see “props to” everyday. I realize the stuff I send mania will sooner or later be found by mania, it’s just frustrating when i post something, and mania puts it up more than 24 hours later. This happened 5 or 6 times last week too! At least john and you other guys who search for obscure stories get your links posted etc. I just sit back and watch. I’m not hating, this is my favorite site, just venting a little frustration!
brining my boy to school and going to play cards guys, have a good day!

Lutter iritates me. He’s a solid fighter, but there is no excuse missing weight and coming into a fight out of shape when you are a professional fighter and train full time. It’s unforgivable when you miss weight for a title fight.

by ukmma on Sep 30, 2008 10:13 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
who is he to say that. i cant even believe ludder ever got a shot at silva in the first place. the only significant fight he ever one was against eastman with a 1 punch k.o. which wouldnt ever happen again if they fought. i’d say that cote has a better shot at winning than most the people who silvas faced so far. i think cote’s a little under-rated in my opinion. i mean, id much rather see silva win than cote but i wouldnt count him out just yet!

idk, man. Cote is a hard puncher with a good chin who isn’t very technical. That’s basically… well, leben.

yeah hes leben but leben had that one thing that drove him harder then anyone else and that was his stupidity cote is to smart to let himself get hit that much

r.m.: When Leben fought Silva, no one really knew anything about him, as it was silva’s first UFC fight. If they fought again, well the outcome would be the same, but Leben would last a little longer.

Silva had fought in Cage Rage so Leben and his camp could have and should have done a bit of homework. Would still have got KO’d though.
by UKmmaBOY on Sep 30, 2008 11:54 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
There was an interview with Leben (I think Mania posted it up a few weeks ago) and he said he knew about all about Anderson, and he did do his homework. Still got KO’d in 49 seconds. Although, he said he went into the fight looking to just end it with one punch in the first round, which, he thinks, was his mistake.

I absolutely knew who Anderson was when he was entering the UFC. I had always watched him in pride and Cage rage, and I knew exactly what was going to happen to Leben. I remember how freaking excited I was when I found out he was fighting Leben and If I knew who he was, Leben and his camp had to know!

I saw him in Pride, but never in Cage Rage. He was damn good in Pride, but not the killer he is today.

A lot of people knew who Anderson Silva was before he was picked up by the ufc. It was HUGE when he was signed, and people were already talking about a fight with Franklin before the Leben fight even happened.
Hell, I remember watching an old ufc, and it showed the WW rankings, which had Anderson Silva in the top 3 (right after he beat Mach Sakurai I think).
Most experts picked him to pick apart Leben. It’s how badly he did it that was honestly a surprise.

Silva is going to get beat. Some say when he does it will be a Ju-jitsu guy, but say it will be a hungry young guy with heavy hands……Cote perhaps. Call me crazy now, but call me right after the fight
by djrmma on Sep 30, 2008 1:58 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I will call you crazy now and after the fight, but only because you picked Cote to beat him. I agree that he will be beaten, and that it could also be by a striker, and not just a bjj guy. It may be a while from now though.

i agree!! i dont think it’ll be a jitzu guy. silvas ground game is top notch. hes no slouch. i think cote’s got a good chance! im pretty excited. i think this might be a great, great fight. im actually hoping its just a stand up war until someone gets rocked!

theres gonna be a lot of hating about this comment and rightly so.lutter is a great talent but simply cant be bothered to train and eat right and its his own fault for the way his career has gone.but you cant deflect the fact that this guy was the closest by far of having a chance of beating silva and stood well with franklin till his already empty tank ran out.but it really irks me silva saying that franklin was his toughest opponent when he only got one takedown in two fights.as for this fight cote ko 1st round.

by ViolentMike on Sep 30, 2008 12:23 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
If lutter would join a good camp and get in shape he would be a damn good middlewight who might just stand a chance at beating silva, he came the closest and shouldn’t gone for that lazy arm bar, who knows, if he came in with good cardio against franklin he might have won that fight. I was never really a fan of lutter, the main reason being that he didn’t really bother to get into shape for most fights, anyone who can’t get motivated to train and get in shape for a title fight shouldn’t really be fighting
by hughes on Sep 30, 2008 11:02 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs

your right. he definatly came the closest to beating silva, but…you know just as much as i do… just because its close to being over doesnt mean its over! for all we know, silva could have planned on finishing on the ground. if theres one thing i do know its that i frigan hate lutter. that chump is all done in the ufc. i wont miss him!

Talk about scared.. that could be the most correct thing you ever said. He passed up like 20 million from DLH.. just because he knows he has a really good chance of losing. Now that is disgraceful. Pussy.

Um.. Patrick Cote as a lot better boxing than Chris Leben. Cote does not go out there and swing like a man on crack cocaine. I think Cote could pull this shocker off. I mean we really have not had that huge underdog really pull something out this year like a Gonzaga, Serra, Jardine type of upset. Cote could do it.

I say Cote shocks the world. Now let me explain: I do NOT believe Cote will beat Silva, I never said so… By saying he will shock the world, I believe he will last longer than any other UFC fight out there. Possibly even to a unanimous decision. Although I think Silva wins via sub 3-4th round. Cote has got a strong chin, and will NOT get rocked or KTFO. If Cote does his homework right, he should watch the Chonan fight. No kids not for the heal hook at the end, but for the entire fight before. It truly was a great fight, even though I still had Anderson having a slight advantage on the scorecard. If you disagree and say Chonan was getting murdered… go watch the fight again, I just say it 20 minutes ago… Well that’s just my two cents…
Oh and by the way, Lutter’s an idiot, and go make weight next time…

I can’t see cote winning either but I also couldn’t see serra tkoing gsp in the first round. I would laugh if cote did win, it would just prove again no one is invincible. Cote does remind me of leben but better, but I still will be shocked if he wins.

Atleast Lutter did better against A Silva than Rich Franklin did, and Lutter can’t even fight for more than 4 minutes without getting tired.
Cote will have a better chance than Leben, just because Leben did not know anything about Silva when they fought.
I doubt the outcome will be much different.
I think Cote will do well in the first and then get chin checked in the 2nd.

Its true! The only guy to test Silva is BISPING! he has never been submitted or ko’d so imagine him against Silva in the UK? the chance to be the worlds best fighter! Bisping would come at him like a psycho! I would of said Henderson and Marquart as they look good but he has beaten them both. Cote couldn beat Bisping so Silva will ko him in round 1! maybe round 2 if Silva takes his time.

Anyone can knock anyone out on any given day. Past fights do not mean anything because every oppenent is different. Silva is sick at muy tai and jui jitsu, but that does not make him some god when it comes to taking a punch. If cote lands a hard shot to the jaw, silva will go down. Anyone will go down or get rocked. Look at st pierre vs serra. Look at griffen vs jardine look at liddell vs evans. It all depends on the situation. Also, lutter is sick on the ground and came close by mounting silva. He had frankling screwed as well but his cardio sucks. He just doesnt care enough. I think Silva will be tested quite hard by cote. You will see.

by Colin D on Sep 30, 2008 6:23 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
The real problem fighters are having with silva is he doesnt really have a weakness, or atleast none to date have really been found!
i think for silva to be beaten it would have to be a unique style of fighting, not your average boxer defence/jab-jab fighter as silva’s movement and angles are suited to such fights. I truly believe the likes of liddell would have a greater chance not just because of ko power but also because of the wierd angles he creates for his punches/strikes, the only problem there would be chuck leaving himself open to silva’s punches/strikes and we all know he has ko power. Also chuck would be able to mix it up with his wrestling in that fight and use his size advantage!!
I just dont see a fighter like cote defeating silva, all be it he may last longer due to having a good chin, and of course he has a punchers chance!

Which is it? Silva sees something in Cote that most of you guys don’t, or your boy Silva likes to have EASY fights that don’t CHALLENGE him.
