UFC Quick Quote: Karo Parisyan inks eight fight contract extension

I love the UFC. I love Dana White, Lorenzo Fertitta, they're one of the nicest people I've ever met and that's the truth. I don't kiss ass. I had a meeting with them last week they gave me a new, eight fight contract and the deal is I'm happy with them, I'm happy with the UFC. But the deal is there is a lot of stuff even Dana can't control. He can't control a lot of the referees. A lot of the judges are from the commission so he can't control all those guys. It's very hard. He can control [them] a certain amount of time [and] a certain amount of people, but not everything.
-UFC welterweight Karo Parisyan sounds off on RawVegas.tv about some of the questionable judging in recent memory including Kimbo Slice vs. James Thompson at EliteXC 'Primetime' back on May 31. During the clip, "The Heat" reveals he's just signed a new, eight fight contract extension with the UFC. Not only does that sound like an unusually large number for UFC contracts, it's timing is a bit bizarre considering Parisyan's recent admission of panic attacks and his last-minute exit from his fight against Yoshiyuki "Zenko" Yoshida at UFC 88 'Breakthrough'. Maybe the UFC loves him as much as he claims to love them.

WTF?? EIGHT fights? Are you fricking kidding me? Karo is one of the most boring fighters in the division. I’d rather watch Kos fight than Karo. He should replace “the heat” with “the decision.”

RedDog, they need Karo as a gatekeeper in one of the most up-and-coming divisions in the UFC.LW and LHW are stacked, the MW is basically stagnant. So they need things goin’ at WW, and Karo’s the perfect gatekeeper for that division.

I get your point…I only like his judo throws, and that’s it!

Boring fighter? have you seen any of his fights? I like Karo he’s gritty and come to put on a show.
by Ro-J on Sep 30, 2008 4:48 AM EDT up reply actions
Maybe he should try finishing a fight! Just 1 and I will shut up!
will he EVER finish a fight? DOUBTFUL!
by john on Sep 30, 2008 10:08 AM EDT up reply actions
no shit huh. i just cant stand him cuz hes so frigan arrogant. he thinks he’s some great fighter. he’s done his best already and proved it aint enough. i’d somehow like to see him and nate diaz go at it so diaz can strangle his ass somehow and show how much of a bitch karo is. how is he such a loser and his cousin is so down to earth?

For people that are always atonished by these long 8 fight deal contracts, the UFC always reserves the right to discontinue the contract. So don’t be so amazed by it.
by THORAZINE on Sep 30, 2008 4:41 PM EDT up reply actions
I’m more amazed when after 2 fights, the fighter complains about the deal…um, sign a shorter deal!! I liken it to chad johnson, he signs “the best deal in bengal history” then complains the next year…you can’t have it both ways!
by kevin doesn't know shit on Sep 30, 2008 7:06 PM EDT up reply actions
Yep, good call on that one. It seems though that the UFC always holds the cards though, as they can end any contract at any time, but the fighter can’t necessarily do so. But yeah, don’t sign a contract and then complain about it later.

maybe dana should control how karo trains because apparently he isn’t responsible enough to do it himself
by randy murders on Sep 29, 2008 11:08 PM EDT reply actions
Yeah i dont think i can ever like him too..such a tool
by matthew on Sep 29, 2008 11:08 PM EDT reply actions
I find it interesting that an 8 fight contract was just given to someone dana described as a gatekeeper. Personally, I don’t like him. Never met him. But I don’t like him. That said, he is dangerous in the cage, just not as dangerous as he thinks he is!
by chefdaddy on Sep 29, 2008 11:15 PM EDT reply actions
they probably got him at a cheap price with no signing bonus (all speculation).its also a possibility that they resigned him so no one else could. plus just like the NFL, they can cut him if he underperforms. if he could go back to being the old karo, he can still be a force as a gatekeeper. dana and lorenzo know what they are doing.
by b.w. on Sep 30, 2008 12:39 AM EDT up reply actions
I most certainly agree that dana and lorenzo know what they are doing! Sometimes it’s easy for me (and others on here) to let our personal dislike of Karo cloud our judgement when it comes to his fighting abilities. I sure as sh*t wouldn’t step in a cage with him! lol
by chefdaddy on Sep 30, 2008 8:17 AM EDT up reply actions
Wow. When am I going to get a UFC contract extension? They are giving them to anyone now.
by the_mexicutioner on Sep 29, 2008 11:24 PM EDT reply actions
they are giving them to anyone now? who jason macdonald and karo parysian. who else and houston i suck on the ground/have a crappy chin alexander
by matt on Sep 30, 2008 12:16 AM EDT up reply actions
Oh great lets give an eight fight contract to someone whos gonna pull out of a fight the day before.. he just doesnt deserve it!
by belfort_fan on Sep 29, 2008 11:24 PM EDT reply actions
Maybe he can fight that bird-beaked Olaf Alfonso.
by the_mexicutioner on Sep 29, 2008 11:48 PM EDT up reply actions
Haha… you sure wouldnt like to fight him.
by belfort_fan on Sep 30, 2008 12:46 AM EDT up reply actions
great. 8 more pre-fight, post-fight and during-fight excuses from this baby. is he supposed to be a champion within those fights? good to hear this contract was a waste of money.
by bradpittfightclub on Sep 29, 2008 11:26 PM EDT reply actions
Are they taking bets on what his next excuse for a loss or backing out of a fight may be?
by the_mexicutioner on Sep 29, 2008 11:49 PM EDT reply actions
Karo is looking buff in that pic, or is it puff. What a waste. That was good money that could have been used on alot better fighters. I’d like to know how much it was for.
by Rubberman on Sep 29, 2008 11:50 PM EDT reply actions
Wait a #%kin minute here guys! “Dont you know who HE is?” That’s Karo, Manvils’ cousin!…who wanted to beat up Diaz!
by phatboy on Sep 29, 2008 11:53 PM EDT reply actions
the only fight id like to see karo in is one against diaz so diaz can beat the crap out of him then strangle him till hes out!! diaz would most likely make him cry like a b@tch!!!
by allamerican on Sep 30, 2008 8:16 AM EDT up reply actions
I’m glad Karo’s going to be around awhile. He is consistently one of the most exciting fighters, win or lose. Hopefully, he will get past his injuries, get pissed and kick som ashe.
by Redravi7 on Sep 29, 2008 11:56 PM EDT reply actions
I agree with you Redravi7, I have always liked what Karo brings to the Octogan. He may be a bit of an ass at times, but he does say that English is not his first language so it might seem sometimes that he sounds like an idiot all the time rather than some of the time. Either way I have always liked the way Karo fights and I would rather watch him fight than Sherk, Koscheck or Hughes anyday.
by Ade on Sep 30, 2008 8:17 AM EDT up reply actions
I knew a French guy that sort of talked like an ass. I found out that the guy that he learned English and conversed with most talked that way too, and he was just sort of copying him. I have a feeling that some of the stuff gets lost in translation with him. The “do you know who I am” explanation actually makes sense (he was simply stating, “I don’t know you, why would you have a problem with someone that you don’t know”.

Karo needs motivation its kinda hard ask BJ he knows plenty about motivation……
by Khaos_Warrior on Sep 29, 2008 11:57 PM EDT reply actions
It’s hard to get motivated when there’s solid pu$$y all around…
by The Negation on Sep 30, 2008 4:41 AM EDT up reply actions
This is great news! Now we get to see more of Karo’s amazing Judo throws! What could be more exciting than that!
by DrPepper on Sep 30, 2008 12:01 AM EDT reply actions
Maybe the UFC wants Karo for their expansion into Europe. Their UK operations is only the beginning into the rest of Europe.
by Guest on Sep 30, 2008 12:10 AM EDT reply actions
Let’s see here, twelve fights in the UFC with nine of them going to the decision.I think I would rather watch grass grow than a Karo fight.
by MrPIBB on Sep 30, 2008 12:21 AM EDT reply actions
Watch the Karo vs DIAZ, SERRA or SANCHEZ again and if you would still rather watch grass grow then I say you are smoking to much of it. Who cares if a fight goes to a descision as long as it is a good one.
by Ade on Sep 30, 2008 8:25 AM EDT up reply actions
man some of u so called die hards are clueless.
You dont have a clue what ur talking about.
Karo is top 10 in one of the toughest div.
Maybe he agreed to drop to 155
Maybe if he gets a few wins he moves to the
WEC and gets another then a title shot.
Maybe he is didnt get a huge amount of money
but his pay goes up substantially with wins.
maybe this is keep the top fighters in the zuffa
brand
by Badguy on Sep 30, 2008 12:54 AM EDT reply actions
They could have learned their lesson after releasing other top 10’s into the world (ei: Andrei Arlovski, Matt Lindland) who were immediately recruited by a competitor. Keeping someone around for a few bucks (to the organization) is a lot cheaper than letting another organization stack their cards with people who made their name in the UFC. Would adding Karo to an affliction card make me NOT want to buy the ppv? nope… would it help persuade me to BUY the PPV? Sure.

Why so much Hate? NOT all his fights are that bad. Has everyone forgot his fight with Diego???? or Nick Diaz? come on guys don’t be jerks for the sake of being ones. he is a good fighter and has been a part of some of most exiting fights in UFC. wasn’t the Diego fight called best of the year? (to be fair he was a part of some boring ones to). But u can’t take what he has accomplished away from him. Also, although there are many fighters that are cool and great in front of cameras.. we cant forget that these are people who are willing to punch people in the face for a living… these are not your everyday Joe’s. they have to be ego maniacs on some level to be willing to fight to prove that they are the best. When was the last time any of us were willing to proove we are the best by getting locked in the cage to fight someone else in front of 20K people?
Even his fight with Alves was a good fight… and not just because he got KO(for all u haters), but up until it was exciting.

Anyone calling Karo boring clearly doesn’t know a thing about MMA, the guy has put on some of the best fights in the UFC since he got there. Karo isn’t a gatekeeper the guy is a top contender in the WW division and when he’s motivated and focused can beat anyone. The UFC did a great move by re-signing him to a long term deal with a young and talented WW to bolster the best division in MMA.
by EJ on Sep 30, 2008 2:43 AM EDT reply actions
Karo a welterweight contender? Who has he beaten latly? He is a wineey little donkey. He pussed out of his fight with Yoshida because he knew he was going to get it handed to him. I will never like the guy, grantite his judo throws are like no other, but that is it. He will never get through Fitch, Diego, Alves, Serra, KOS. I will go as far as to say Steve Urkel could beat Karo “In Heat” Parisyan
by Ralphie on Sep 30, 2008 8:48 AM EDT up reply actions
For the guy who said the middleweight division is stagnant……are you serious?!?!?! Silva, Henderson, Palhares, Cote, Okami, Marquardt, Kampmann(if he doesn’t go to welterweight), Maia, Almeida and the list goes on. That division was run thin for a minute, but now it is back up there!!!!
by Brendan on Sep 30, 2008 3:07 AM EDT reply actions
Just because he signed for eight doesn’t mean the UFC has a contractual obligation to keep him around for eight fights.
He could lose 3 of his next fights and then be cut from the organization.
by DirtyML on Sep 30, 2008 3:23 AM EDT reply actions
I dont know who you guys are, but do you realize he has stayed in the cage and took decisions… Not dry dry humping ones either. Hes up and down and actually works when on the ground.
Lets see, did he get ko’ed by GSP (NO) did he get Koed by Diego (No)
Guys there are more guys in the WW division to fight think Kos, Hughs, Fitch. Then think rematches with Serra or Diego.
If he goes to LW then look at the fights available there BJ, Revenge vs Sherk.
He is far from washed up.
As far as a Europe UFC that sounds cool too. Judo is huge there and maybe they will identify with his STYLE of MMA.
I would rather watch Karo fight its atleast 3rds of action not 30 seconds of stand up followed by 2minutes of waking the other guy up. 30seconds is not a fight its a miss-match.
by kick2dascrotum on Sep 30, 2008 7:06 AM EDT reply actions
I’m pretty sure the UFC has a clause where they can release a guy after 2 losses during the duration of a contract.
by Pat on Sep 30, 2008 8:11 AM EDT reply actions
He’ll never be a champion but should be always in the top ten, they need guys like him I guess one step above a can LOL.
by nathan on Sep 30, 2008 1:41 PM EDT reply actions
With better cardio Karo would probably be more like top 5. His judo throws are fast and hard to defend, and his gnp is world class. In their prelim bout, he had GSP in a sick body lock—for a second it looked like GSP was going to tap.
Karo would beat fitch and Diego(again?)

KAro is a bonfide BS artist,, he has some many stories and excuses ,, I dont believe he has an 8 fight deal .. I just hope he gets dropped after he drops out of another fight 1 day before with another lame excuse ,, I think he will be chewed up and spit out like the trash that comes out of his mouth !!
