Alves, not Silva, but Sanchez vs Silva would be good too :)

diego will surprise him.
by blah. anything can/and will happen in MMA on Sep 29, 2008 10:27 AM EDT up reply actions
No he won’t. However he might be surprised to see how much smaller he is or how much harder alves hits.

I pick Alves to win this one. I think the hardest test for Thiago that night will be the steroid test.

This was on a CBS network add? Wow. Kind of kicking Pro-Elite while it’s down, huh? But correct me if I’m wrong, but doesn’t CBS own Viacom which in turn owns Spike TV? And if true, can it be said that to a certain degree CBS is allowing the UFC to counter-program Elite XC?
by the_mexicutioner on Sep 29, 2008 10:39 AM EDT reply actions
If it is that way, thats some funny sh*t! No respect to EliteXC!
by JV on Sep 29, 2008 11:13 AM EDT up reply actions
MEX. yup, thats why you see all those csi reruns on spike. i can remember seeing ads for Afflictions 1rst show on spike and though the same thing, very odd. someone then explained to me that it was a regional thing with the local tv affliates and that made sense.
by b.w. on Sep 29, 2008 11:48 AM EDT up reply actions
Oh yeah, good video. Diego will take it no doubt.

Alves is my favourite fighter. The guy is going to KTFO of Sanchez. Trust me on that one, I guarantee it. I rekcon he gives GSP a run for his money. If his takedown defense is actually as good as it looked against Hughes, I give the win to Alves

C-mon Hughes is past his prime. Diego is a young lion! We’ll see if Thiago can handle Diegos pace? And when was the last time you saw someone beatdown Diego? (none) And when was the last time you saw Thiago get beatdown? (Fitch)
by JV on Sep 29, 2008 11:32 AM EDT up reply actions
i can see alves taking this one by UD but if he did make it to GSP there’s no way that the takedown defense he showed against hughes will be good enough, look at the speed of GSP’s shoot compared to hughes’ i could see GSP stopping him by GNP or sub, BJ is the only one who stands a chance at consistanly stopping GSP’s takedowns, not that i think he could beat him though

JV: What do you think Sanchez has over Alvez?
by RedDog on Sep 29, 2008 2:22 PM EDT up reply actions
Sanchez has better jits, better takedown, better subs, better transitions, better GnP, better cardio and more intensity.
Alves has better striking and a propensity to look like a He-man doll with his gigantic muscles.

Definitely fight of the year implications. This could be even better than Florian/Huerta should have been. I see it going to a decision, and I think Diego might surprise everyone. He’s got absolutely no quit in him, and he trains as hard as anyone in the world. Thiago trains at ATT, and thats one of the best schools in the world. I’m very excited for this one. Either way it ends up, I think we learn a TON about both fighters.

I promise you that that Alves shape has been enhanced with something illegal. Mark my words, trust me.
by tripleainto on Sep 29, 2008 11:37 AM EDT reply actions
there are way too many controls to get away with something illegal in your body,

“Thiago Alves is a huge 170 pounder!” “Look at his fight with Matt Hughes”.
Uh, no, Thiago Alves was a huge 173 pounder in that fight. Tone down the roids and make weight dude
by Brandon on Sep 29, 2008 11:49 AM EDT reply actions
i doubt its roids its probably the conditioning coach or maybe they have their own balco type thing in florida(joke)
no alves was always very big he just happened to be bigger and needs to cut a little muscle he probably weighed about 200lbs for the fight with hughes which is ridiculous

He didn’t look that big aginst Spencer fisher when he got subbed. That was back i 05 though.
by James S on Sep 29, 2008 12:42 PM EDT up reply actions
Thiago said that he suffered an injury before the Hughes fight that prevented him from being able to cut weight effectively. He informed the UFC over a week before the fight that he wasn’t going to make weight.
by GregC on Sep 29, 2008 2:26 PM EDT up reply actions
curious as to what the odds will be on this fight.
by Jizzo on Sep 29, 2008 12:32 PM EDT reply actions
I don’t think diego can take him down, and if that’s the case easy KO for the pitbull.
by shamo84 on Sep 29, 2008 1:54 PM EDT reply actions
this guy needs to move up to 185 or lose 10 lbs of that blown up muscle hes got…I’m not even counting on this fight to happen….THIAGO HAS TO MAKE WEIGHT FIRST!!!
by Chadx23 on Sep 29, 2008 1:57 PM EDT reply actions
Thiago will have a huge advantage given that guys that wiegh much more than their opponent are able to absorb the punches without getting rocked. Diego will have to trip him to get him down. I definitely see them standing for the majority of the first round and Diego will probably get cut, but not Ko’ed
by Don on Sep 29, 2008 2:44 PM EDT reply actions
I really hope Diego knocks out Alves just like he knocked out Joe Riggs. Who ever wins, it’s going to be a heck of a fight.

diego sanchez, “I’ve never had a boring fight…”

Sanchez said that he’s never been in a “unexciting” fight before? Did he forget about Sanchez vs. Koscheck?
