I love it how they said the exact same thing… disregarding the eloquence. Good point though.

by chris on Sep 29, 2008 12:55 PM EDT reply actions

Yeah, they both had a copy of the same PR notes.

by PW on Sep 29, 2008 1:25 PM EDT up reply actions

It’s probably because that’s what people actually do! They just said word for word what what we do when it’s UFC time.

by RedDog on Sep 29, 2008 2:16 PM EDT up reply actions

man I don’t even have 8 or 9 buddies. I usually waytch with my wife or in afflictions case by myself. I like it better that way, I really don’t need some moron (the type you hear at a hooters on a sat afternoon) saying stuff that makes no sense and ruining my ppv. Realistically it is a cheap night of entertainment. I can’t go a weekend without dropping 4 or 500 on something unless there is a ppv, in which case I chill out and take a nap and end up spending 40 bucks.

I wacthed ufc with friends a few times and everytime the fights go to the ground they complain. Philistines.

by Macho Bullshit on Sep 29, 2008 4:26 PM EDT up reply actions

It’s a fact that entertainment is always solid, even during bad economic times. It takes a little dip, but it doesn’t crash like the rest of the economy. It’s an “escape”.

by MMACrossfire on Sep 29, 2008 2:19 PM EDT up reply actions

it’s talking point PR. they set a message and it’s a surrogates job to repeat it as many times as possible

by aa on Sep 29, 2008 2:21 PM EDT up reply actions

If it helps the business then why make an announcement?

Its business as usual, right?

This is spin doctored rhetoric at its finest.

To quote Mexi … Laughable.

by OJR on Sep 29, 2008 2:54 PM EDT up reply actions

LOL I wonder who stole that line from who???

by THORAZINE on Sep 30, 2008 3:24 AM EDT up reply actions

haha they have definitely been prepped for that question

by A on Sep 29, 2008 12:56 PM EDT reply actions

Yeah, but it is still true. But of course I have no friends and still watch them anyway. Of course the wife and dog are there.

by Rubberman on Sep 29, 2008 1:08 PM EDT up reply actions

The party thing is they best way to go. I’ve been paying for PPV’s by myself as of late because I’ve been in Florida the majority of the last 4 months. I can afford it, but aside from the party thing being cheaper, its a way better time as well.

hey mexi, what part of FL? I lived on west coast for 5 years, and my dad has a condo right on ft lauderdale beach.

by kevin doesn't know shit on Sep 29, 2008 2:28 PM EDT up reply actions

I have a condo in Coral Springs, and a place with my cousin in Whittier, Ca.

oh cool, try the sea watch…great food, great atmosphere. take a woman. Get the s. african lobster tails…you won’t be disappointed!!!

by kevin doesn't know shit on Sep 29, 2008 3:09 PM EDT up reply actions

I heard of that place. I think its out on the beach between Atlantic and Commercial somewhere. I have my 18 mo old daughter with me most of the time so its hard to just go anywhere and eat.

by the_mexicutioner on Sep 29, 2008 3:18 PM EDT up reply actions

yeah you’re right on. Thats my favorite spot in that area, houstons is overrated, I could give you a laundry list of great spots. Thats by far my favorite spot, you go north, south or west 2 miles and can eat at a different restaurant (thats great) every day for a month. Gianni’s best italian, lunch is same portions but 1/2 the price, and your daughter would be fine!!

Why is this clip even relevant?

by open24hrz on Sep 29, 2008 1:06 PM EDT reply actions

just to show how more mainstream MMA is becoming and even something like an close-the-edge economic crisis….MMA and the UFC are still thriving. people still go to see shows and watch it on TV when ever they get the chance.

by santiago69us on Sep 29, 2008 1:47 PM EDT up reply actions

What about ticket sales??? When the economy is in the can, there will be less people able to shell out 500 skins for UFC tix. I dont see how they can possibly believe that crap. Vegas is bleeding and the UFC boys should indeed be worried.

by stevo on Sep 29, 2008 1:23 PM EDT reply actions

anyone who can shell out 500 bucks for bleed nose seats doesnt have to worry about spending 500 bucks in any time or type economy man lol. vegas is bleeding maybe…but you seem to have dim preception of how a market works…when something is selling hot..it sells sells sells man. we are in a socio economic crisis where the middle class is hurting the poor will be poor and the rich will stay rich and always pay out 500 bucks for tickets. there or not many blue collars out there who can afford good seat for a UFC event but …a UFC event is always awesome when your there live. and thats what people want great entertainment when they lots on their mind.

by santiago69us on Sep 29, 2008 1:44 PM EDT up reply actions

I agree that they will always sell the expensive tickets…the rich will always be rich…if one rich guy loses money…another one gains it.

But, stevo is correct about Vegas…..ask any casino owner and they’ll tell you….Vegas is hurting right now.

by introvert on Sep 29, 2008 1:50 PM EDT up reply actions

yeah they are hurting but im still trying to be optimistic about all the big money bets going around the town…leaves alot of bleeding cash to spent somewhere…hookers are hurting bad right now i bet!

by santiago69us on Sep 29, 2008 2:17 PM EDT up reply actions

yeah cause they’re doing 5 or 6 guys a night

by kevin doesn't know shit on Sep 29, 2008 2:30 PM EDT up reply actions

5 or 6 huh? wow thats bad considering ive heard them go thru 10 guys in one nights…or one guy ten times.(lucky rich bastards)

by santiago69us on Sep 29, 2008 3:44 PM EDT up reply actions

the ufc will sell out (tickets wise) every event they put on in any major city in the u.s., so no need to worry about that. not that i think that the people bringing up ticket sales are actually “worried about the ufc’s success”. more they are hoping for the ufc’s demise. good luck with that.

by b.w. on Sep 29, 2008 3:54 PM EDT up reply actions

Its a proven “fact” that during times the markets are really suffering that the “vices” Buisnesses still thrive…..(alcohol sales, gambleing, ect) Very easily I can see MMA kinda falling into that catagory….. Yea the sales might be a bit slower to come they will come.

by Bucho on Sep 29, 2008 1:36 PM EDT reply actions

very good point
as mr soprano said the mob are recession proof

there will always be high demand for the cheap tickets $50/$100 isnt that much for a once a year thing if that in most states

when the ufc comes to town you watch
iv travelled all over england and ireland to see it

i may slightly disagree with it helping the business, as stuff like tshirt and food sales may well be hurt in bad times

but compared to most other businesses who actually sell a tangible good they are looking pretty

by bigjohn on Sep 29, 2008 2:25 PM EDT up reply actions

helping friends… helping businesses… helping friend’s businesses… that what its all about.

introvert – Relax, man. Sheesh. The economy is on everyone’s mind, including in the world of MMA.

How can you not love both of these guys ?

by Liddell-Marquardt-GSP-Sherk on Sep 29, 2008 2:04 PM EDT reply actions

wow even the UFC heads are using repetitive talking points..pro MSM tactics right there

by Jesse on Sep 29, 2008 2:28 PM EDT reply actions

Beer and pizza seems like a requirement for watching UFCs.

Oh well, I can live with that…

by Revjames13 on Sep 29, 2008 8:33 PM EDT reply actions

Dana would say anything that favors UFC>..everybody would suffer from the bad economy…all sports…but UFC would suffer a lot more because theyre overhead(marketing.events production.)is sooo huge that they would have a hard time making net income..im sure they paid randy and lesner huge purses just so the fight can be made.and that was before the market crashed….so if the ppv for that fight decreases then theres little money that they could make
