Thiago Alves will not be ready for what Diego Sanchez has prepared for him at UFC 90

Props: Tatame.com
Quoteworthy:
"This is the fight of my life. I’m preparing, I’m training the harder I can for this fight. I’m doing a lot strength training, submission, but my biggest strength is my heart, conditioning, technique and I feel that these three things are going to be the biggest factor in this fight. Once I show the pace I put in this fight… I’ll put a pace he never felt before.... I got all these wonderful teammates and we’re just training hard and getting ready, and I don’t think Thiago will be ready for what I prepared for him."
Diego Sanchez comments on his upcoming fight with Thiago Alves at UFC 90: "Silva vs. Cote" at the Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Ill., on October 25. "The Nightmare" also shares his thoughts on "The Pitbull's" recent inability to make weight, which he feels was a big advantage in his win over Matt Hughes earlier this year. The winner of the bout between Alves and Sanchez will likely earn number one welterweight title contender status.

The nightmare is a little beeatch and hope he gets smacked around out there. I think Alves needs to be checked for steroids a little closer as well, he looked pretty puffed up in his last 2 fights not to mention he Did not make weight for the Hughes fight. Personally I cant stand either of these guys and dont care who wins.

Me too. Probably the only time I will end up cheering for Sanchez.
by JB on Sep 28, 2008 11:16 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
i dont care for either of them but think it’ll be a good scrap! i think sanchez wins by tko ground n pound. either way probly some good strikes thrown! both these guys need someone to knock em down a notch!
by allamerican on Sep 28, 2008 11:34 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
neither of these guys are on GSP’s level so it doesnt really matter who wins

fitch put alves away, yet he had a hrd time beating sanchez and fitch just got owned by GSP
by onthebutton on Sep 28, 2008 1:18 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
That’s a good reason not to have any WWs fight again ever, because they probably can’t beat GSP. Diego is going to kick Alves’ fat ass, then anything can happen when he fights GSP.
by PW on Sep 28, 2008 1:44 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
yea if there not good enough to beat gsp they just shouldnt fight lol… Im sorry but i enjoy watching all the fights not just the best fighters.. most times the undercard fights are more exiting than the main event anyway.

U can’t compare the Thiago of the past with the one of today… much more pumped up… steroids?… my guess is ‘hell yes’

Diuretics are not steriods people. Alves has always been a giant welterweight so deal with it. Before 85, he told UFC management that he wasn’t gonna make weight twelve days out. As for sanchez, Alves will get a teeth shattering knockout. Classic bout between Muay Thai fighter vs. “I have improved striking.” And don’t come at me with “sanchez will take him down.” If fioravanti can stuff your shots, so can (insert any fighter name).

Steroids or not, diuretics are banned substances. You get the same suspension for them as with steroids, so cheating is cheating. Even though Alves has never been caught using steroids, he’s at least done enough to cause Sanchez, Kos and Leben to openly question him, and athletes don’t do that to each other unless they’re pretty damn sure he’s not on the up and up.
by PW on Sep 28, 2008 7:43 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I agree, he has the bloated steroid look.
by Gord on Sep 28, 2008 9:10 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
He shows more steroid side effects than just being bloated. He has definaely used them, he is just not so dumb as to use something like Deca whe he knows what day he will be tested on.

Maybe he’s on the same stuff that Lance Armstrong is on. Lance definitely doped but “never” really got caught.
by cbchwa on Sep 28, 2008 11:43 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Lance has been tested FAR more than anyone in the fight game. They have also kept his specimens frozen so that they can test for things in the future. The French just hate that a one balled American completely dominated their sport in their country.
by naturalshadow on Sep 28, 2008 11:56 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I agree with you, naturalshadow, Armstrong has been tested more than anyone in ANY sport. It is interesting to note, however, that up until his first Tour de France win, he was just an average cyclist.
by chefdaddy on Sep 29, 2008 7:47 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
The only time there was even a hint that Armstrong had any illegal substances was when a French “journalist” broke into his hotel room during a race, planted phony vials of drugs and took pictures of them.

I hope Diego wins. I never watched him on the tuf show, but instantly liked him when I saw him fight. Alves is a tough, huge opponent. I liked that footage with leben, kos and diego making fun of how alves “got that big” mania put a link to that please, it was classic footage!!

Is that any better than Wandy always saying “He very tough guy. I train hard. I try go for knockout. He very tough guy” ???

Wanderlei’s primary language ain’t English to begin with, so bad comparison right there…
by The Negation on Sep 28, 2008 6:44 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I bet Diego’s portugese is 20x worst than Wandy’s english. Besides, Nate Diaz’s english sounds way more retarded than Diego’s. Diaz should enroll in an ESL class for peat sakes!

I remember watching an interview with Anderson Silva on UFC.com.
Wanderlei is a graduated English teacher compared to him.

I actually think Leben, Koscheck and Bobby were the real idiots on the show.

yeah they were real dumbshits! who do you think will win leben or bisping??? i personally see leben winning. i know he’s the underdog but i just see him landing a haymaker on bisping and winning it. bispings got no power in his strikes so unless he taps him, i see leben gettin the w.

Granted Diego is a little whacky, but the dude can fight. I think his whackyness is funny and his fighting style is one of the best in the UFC! His stand up is the best its every been and his ground game as alway been above average. Keep in mind that Diego has NEVER been KO’ed, that has to account for something with the list of fights he’s been through!
His fights with Karo and Nick Diaz are one of the best fights in the UFC, diffenently classics!
WAR DIEGO!!!

i just want to know how diego leaped frogged kos in the division, i mean kos beat sanchez and his only recent loss was a ud against gsp, he gave gsp his toughest fight in a while. Kos is also on a two fight win streak winning by an impressive tko and a ud in a fight which should have been stopped because of brutal gnp
by matt on Sep 28, 2008 2:41 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
I don’t think that Diego deserves a title shot if he beats Alves. With the winning streak he has I think Alves should fight GSP if he beats Diego, but if Diego wins I think he and Kos should have a number 1 contender match. There is no way that Diego deserves a title shot before Kos without beating him. Sure Kos is a dick and the fans hate him, but he has tremendously improved his overall game (including his marketability) in recent fights. I think he realizes that fans hate him and is trying to improve his image by being more respectful. It would definitely help his career since the UFC (understandably so since it’s a business) cares a lot about the marketability of the fighters when determining contenders.
by GregC on Sep 28, 2008 7:24 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
First, Diego does have a win over Kos, and yes I know it was technically an exhibition, but they got into the cage and Diego won. Second, if Koscheck could only manage a very lackluster decision win over a half-dead Diego then a good win over a top-5 opponent should definitely give Diego a title shot ahead of Kos. Third, Kos already lost pretty convincingly to GSP, so a rematch is really not necessary at this point.
by PW on Sep 28, 2008 7:47 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
i think that the Nightmare should be giving a title shot if he can beat Alves.but on the other hand iI don’t think that Alves should get a title shot if he wins. because he failed to make weight in his last win. and he was also suspended for 9 months for testing positive for diuretics. I think that is 2 strikes against him.and if he can’t make weight in this fight then he should be foreced into going up to Mwt.but if he does make weight and does not test posive for any banned substances then I still think that he will need 1 more win after this fight.

no doubt, diego is the most tenacious fighter in the UFC (when he’s healthy). PLUS he never been knocked out. i’m sure thiago will try to test his chin. this fight could be fight of the year!! whoever wins this would be catapulted up to the food chain. i reeeeeaaaally hope its diego so we can see him fight kos again! its gonna be crazy retarded.

What the UFC wants is for Diego to win and if he gets the belt, have KOS and Fitch fight him for the title. They’ll make lots of money this way

Wow diego looks like a gay stripper in that pic. With that said, his fight with thiago (if thiago makes weight) will be awesome. Diego has been focusing on his bjj so I’m interested to see if he’ll snatch an arm instead of gnp.

Thiago Tavares, Antonio Mendez, to be back in action by January. It is also rumored they could be fighting in Ireland, which either means there will be a UFN between 92 and 93, or the UFC would put one of their most anticipated rematches in a place NOT named Las Vegas.

I’ve also never understood the hate for Diego. I’ve been a rabid UFC fan ever since TUF 1, and Diego is far and away my favorite fighter. How can you not love the way that guy fights??? He’s a tough as nails Mexican kid that’s looking to do one thing only, and that’s to knock somebody’s head off. His stand up may not be as good as Thiago’s, but he’s never once had his bell rung, and his cardio is ridiculous. Thiago will likely crack him several times… i look forward to seeing what he does when Sanchez walks right thru it. This fight will end up on the ground, which is a huge advantage to Diego. This could be fight of the year, can’t wait to see it.
by kg on Sep 28, 2008 8:05 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
I hope Diego can take it, and I think he will, i think he’ll take it to the ground and it will all be over soon after that. Plus, I think he has MUCH better chance at GSP then Thiago does. GSP vs. Thiago I see GSP taking him down to avoid stand up and smashing him there.
But with Sanchez and his iron chin, he could stand nicely with GSP, and if it goes to teh ground, Sanchez is a BJJ wizard so that could be interesting.
by The Anomaly on Sep 28, 2008 8:53 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
He’s not the BJJ wizard that BJ, Serra and Fitch are and they couldn’t do diddly to GSP on the ground. Plus Diego isn’t as good a striker as those 3 either, so he would get owned on the feet. I would like to see it happen though.

Diego will not be able to handle his steroid strenght in this fight I mean come on look at the guy. Matt Hughes is a total fag but he is still super tough and Alves beat him like he stole something. UFC needs to step up and intensify steroid testing. This is what I like about BJ Penn & KenFlo, he looks soft all the time he gets tired just like human beings should but he is total skill and toughness without steroids, you put BJ’s skill against anyone on steroids and he still beats them this is why besides GSP, BJ & Kenflo are the best fighters in the UFC.
