UFC Quick Quote: Jason MacDonald inks four-fight contract; predicts Bisping match-up

I signed a new contract with the UFC this week. It's a new four-fight deal, so I'll be looking forward to four more fights in the UFC and hopefully climbing my way to the top of the division. On the next few cards there are quite a few middleweight matchups, So it will be interesting to see who they match me up with next. My gut feeling is I'm going to fight Michael Bisping, win or lose in his upcoming bout. I have no particular reason for that. Nobody has said anything to lead me to believe that. I just see that happening. But then again Alessio Sakara just had a good knockout so maybe they'll think that is a good matchup, another striker vs. grappler matchup.

-UFC middleweight Jason "The Athlete" MacDonald (21-10) comments via his official blog about his new contract extension with the UFC. MacDonald is fresh off an exciting submission victory over Jason Lambert at UFC 88 but has his work cut out for him if he hopes to work his way back into title contention in a very crowded - and talented - middleweight division.

Thats ok. He’ll just end up getting beat again by Maia eventually.

Good job Jason. I guess we will see more of him in the next few months.

yeah for sure… good fighter

Agreed. And I want him to beat Bisping up after Leben’s done with him…

by The Negation on Sep 27, 2008 7:08 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Please God no. Jason MacDonald is one of my most hated fighters. Every time he loses he never shuts up making excuses. The most hilarious of which was when he said Okami “never hurt him at all”, and someone made a .gif out of all the times Okami was bouncing MacDonald’s head off the mat with some brutal GNP.

I dont think he will be fighting Bisping. Especially if Bisping wins against Leben, he will then be number 1 contender.

by c-war on Sep 27, 2008 11:24 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

i agree. it’s already a strong rumor that if he wins against leben, that he and hendo will be the coaches on the next tuf usa vs uk, and then those 2 will fight. if bisping manages to beat hendo, you can rest assured that he will fight a.silva next. if bisping loses to hendo and macdonald keeps winning, then i can see that match-up as a possibility.

Yeah that makes sense. I see that way too.

Agreed BW. McDonald “The talented Fairy” is very skilled but lacks toughness IMO. I cant stand listening to the guy talk. I hate him so much when he opens his mouth.

Bisping will have to fight Hendo (WIN OR LOSE as they will be the coaches for the next TUF) before he can even think about a title shot.

by MoonUK on Sep 27, 2008 12:08 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

well j-mac i think your wrong…..bc if bisping wins i guess he gets the coaching gig vs. hendo and i think the ufc has figured out sakara crumbles against good fighters and has not knocked off a good fighter in the ufc yet …… so im thinking ….kampman,grove,lister,almedia…….fighters ranked 20-30 range

by wm133 on Sep 27, 2008 11:30 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Who should he fight next? …I think him and kendall grove would have a nice scrap, or someone else of that caliber.

by Toad on Sep 27, 2008 11:33 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

MacDonald vs Grove would be a good fight. Both are relatively big and tall middleweights, and with Kendall’s last performance, it’d be interesting to see if he can keep fighting like he did. J-Mac has beat every TUF guy he’s fought (if I’m not mistaken), so it’d also be interesting to see if he can do it again.
I’ve come to like MacDonald outside the cage. He seems like a real MMA fan; he’s always talking about possible matchups and stuff, instead of saying “I’ll fight anyone the UFC put in front of me”. It’s nice to hear that and all, but having someone say they want to fight a particular guy, I think, is a better response to that question.

by sinister on Sep 27, 2008 12:48 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

yea for sure… i hate that response, um i dont care ill fight whoever they put in front of me… great, we know that acehole

by brendan on Sep 27, 2008 1:10 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

If Bisping and Maia both win their bouts I believe we will see Maia vs Bisping.

His new contract should have had a clause demanding that he get a new nickname.

by chefdaddy on Sep 27, 2008 11:54 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Does he not look like an athlete to you?

by NorthStar on Sep 27, 2008 1:50 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

So do a lot of guys. And I’m not trying to be disrespectful to him at all, I like watching him fight, but his nickname is just bad. Really bad.

He wants Bisping? Does he really like pain that much?

by Tony on Sep 27, 2008 11:55 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

bisping will be a coach on spring ultimate fighter with hendo mcdonald won’t fight him probably at all i think him vs a jason day might be more reasonable and with day gonna fight before year end make it happen mcdonald is a gamer always wants to fight like clementi and guida

by bryant on Sep 27, 2008 11:59 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Although I like J Mac, I think he will be used in 3 ways: 1) more as a stepping stone to measure up and comers, 2) to match against other middleweights needing to keep busy, and 3) for the UFC to fill out cards.

The UFC is pushing Bizzzbings success to promote the organization overseas and a win against J Mac would not really prove anything, but a loss well…. just wouldn’t be good.

He is someone I enjoy watching so I’m glad he’s staying around a while longer.

he will always be a mid-level fighter..

by shamo84 on Sep 27, 2008 12:20 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

agreed bisping is a mid level fighter. Hopefully hendo gets to fight him after he loses to leben

by onthebutton on Sep 27, 2008 12:42 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

He should have got knoocked out twice in a row, then they would have extended his contract for 5 fights.

by the_mexicutioner on Sep 27, 2008 1:10 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

the old houston alexander contract?

by brendan on Sep 27, 2008 1:17 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I like mcdonald. i think he can beat Bisping. Hes very durable. and if it goes to the ground he can submit him.

by belfort_fan on Sep 27, 2008 1:16 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I like him too but unless he can get his opponents to the ground and keep them there hes always in trouble. His standup is terrible. I know hes been working on it but it sure isnt showing. I loved him vs Maia. I think they should have him fight more grapplers. Even if he loses you will still get a great fight. It never hurts to have good fighters that put on good fights to fill out cards either. Not everyone can be great but there is always the chance of a surprise.

by NorthStar on Sep 27, 2008 1:55 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Agreed, if Bisping stays on the feet with him hes done. but, same goes for Mcdonald on the ground IMO.

by belfort_fan on Sep 27, 2008 2:03 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I agree with that one.

by Wanderlei Fan on Sep 27, 2008 5:29 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

mcdonald was at mfc in edmonton last night chillen with a buddy of mine and he told him he gets the winner of leben bisbing then winner gets title shot

by jaygoss on Sep 27, 2008 2:15 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

and what about hendo and marquardt, i know they have both already had their shot at the title but both of them are better and would beat any of those three fighters.
