Rampage Jackson: Michael Bisping could beat Anderson Silva one day

rampage bisping

Props: London Telegraph

Quoteworthy:

"I've been working and training with Michael for a year now, and I have seen improvements consistently; he is already one of the best. He just can't see it yet. This guy doesn't know just how good he is. Or how good he can be yet. I think if Michael beats Chris Leben and he fights Dan Henderson next he has the chance to show he is one of the best. If Michael beats and defeats Henderson then he can take on Anderson Silva. Michael has all the qualities to be one the best. He's better than me at so many things. Michael is a great fighter. He works hard, trains hard, he's got the potential to be one of the best champions in the sport. He's also got really good trainers. In the MMA game, anything can happen in a fight. People see Silva as invincible, but Michael could beat Silva one day. There is always a first in this sport."

Former light heavyweight champion Quinton Rampage Jackson -- who now trains full time with top middleweight contender Michael Bisping at Wolfslair MMA Academy in the United Kingdom -- feels his team member and friend could defeat UFC Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva. The interesting thing here is that he lays out a fight schedule that could groom Bisping for an eventual showdown with "The Spider" after two fights -- Chris Leben at UFC 89 and then Dan Henderson. Bisping has been rumored to be a coach on the next season of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 9 opposite Hendo if he can defeat "The Crippler" next month. It makes sense because of the "U.S. vs. U.K." theme for the next installment of the mixed martial arts reality series on Spike TV. The winner of the bout would then challenge Silva for the 185-pound world title. For that to happen, however, "The Count" has to first defeat Leben, which is no easy task. Check out a video interview with Rampage after the jump.

Oh – Oh! Rampages “delirium” is acting up again!!! Take his keys away!!!

by mmaniak on Sep 26, 2008 10:03 AM EDT reply actions

Yeah, he must’ve said this after a few too many “energy drinks” and not enough sleep.

by chefdaddy on Sep 26, 2008 10:16 AM EDT up reply actions

Rampage is crazy, and a bad influence apparently. Look a Bisbing’s drink, kind of resembles a Red Bull. Rampage, Rampage, Rampage…

by BNF on Sep 26, 2008 10:22 AM EDT up reply actions

that picture was from after the UFC 75 fight:

Bisping vs. Hammiul and Rampage vs. Hendo. Its a year old picture!

would u like it better if they were praying in church together?

by john on Sep 26, 2008 10:29 AM EDT up reply actions

LMAO at your sensitivty towards Rampage! It’s called a joke!

by BNF on Sep 26, 2008 10:47 AM EDT up reply actions

The picture was from UFC 72 – I took it !!!

by fightbuddha on Sep 26, 2008 10:59 AM EDT up reply actions

Rampage doesnt sound like hes getting better to me! The Diaz bros have to remind us they are from Stockton, and Rampage reminds us all hes a child of God.

by JV on Sep 26, 2008 11:37 AM EDT up reply actions

Lol this title coming from the man who thought Forrest wouldn’t even go three rounds with him. I’m sure one day bisping will fight Silva but he won’t beat him, especially when Silva might only be hanging around for a year. Is there anyone who thinks Bisping is going to get the skills within a year to beat Silva? highly doubtable.

by Cogito Ergo Sum on Sep 26, 2008 12:03 PM EDT up reply actions

yea Cogito, Bisping is Rampages boy! Ofcourse hes going to say that. Why is he lying as a child of God, saying Bisping has a chance against the Spider?

by JV on Sep 26, 2008 12:36 PM EDT up reply actions

wow u lot r pricks!…. when that 1st happened to rampage every1 were supportin him now its a couple of months on it doesnt matter anymore?? i guess u hipocrits jus go along with the crowd, brown nosing… grow up abit

by ufcaddict on Sep 26, 2008 12:58 PM EDT up reply actions

Seriously, lay off the jesus juice.

by DSmith on Sep 26, 2008 2:19 PM EDT up reply actions

Regodamndiculisness….

Maybe when Bispign actually fights someone other than a C level fighter or 1 Dimensional BJJ grappler(cant even say fighter, cuz none of them could fight)

Funny how this guy is so good but, after 8 or 9 UFC fights has not fought a good striker or well rounded fighter???? He is getting the KSLice treatment plus some. Let him fight Marquardt, Franklin, Henderson….I even think McFedries or Grove will beat him

by fightfan on Sep 26, 2008 2:39 PM EDT up reply actions

rashad evans has knocked out a few ppl so i dont know wot ur talkin bout n he bout to fight leben who is heavy handed…. so u havnt really thought bout wot u sayin

by ufcaddict on Sep 26, 2008 7:10 PM EDT up reply actions

Leben – heavy handed and slow as dirt
Evans – Bisping couldnt beat Rashad’s lay n pray game and couldnt beat him when he was gassed by end of rd 2

by fightfan on Sep 26, 2008 7:54 PM EDT up reply actions

rashad evans a level c fighter? wot ya smokin?

he has beat some good opponents

and thats because it was the END of round two he got him self back together by round 3

by ufcaddict on Sep 27, 2008 10:25 AM EDT up reply actions

What the hell is fightfan talking about??? Bisping “hasn’t fought a good striker or a well rounded fighter.” Umm, He fought Rashad Evans. And, in case you didn’t know, fightfan, Evans knocked Chuck Liddell out cold, UNCONSCIOUS!I believe that makes Evans a “good striker.” Its hilarious how some people try to slant everything to fit their ridiculous claims.

Friends don’t let Friends drive Drunk.

by THORAZINE on Sep 27, 2008 1:32 AM EDT up reply actions

…yeah sure. I bet that if there were ever a title match eVER a title.. fight would be in England.. to accomadate Bisping.

by PhilQNY on Sep 26, 2008 10:05 AM EDT reply actions

it would be in England, but thats what Silva wants anyway! Silva is a sick FU8K who actually enjoys going into hostile territory and beat the hometown favorite. He also has millions of fans in England being a cage rage veteran.

In all HOnesty, I agree with Rampage that Bisping will soon become one of the best middleweights in the world. I dunno if he will be good enough to beat Hendo, but IMO Hendo is looking old. I dont think anyone at 185 lbs. will ever beat the spider but that doesnt mean Bisping cant become an elite Middleweight

by john on Sep 26, 2008 10:11 AM EDT up reply actions

Silva would handle Bisping the way he handles everyone else—carefully, methodically, and ruthlessly. They’d circle and jab for a few minutes and then it would be into the clinch. Bisping, meet knee. Knee, meet Bisping Good night.

by BobC on Sep 26, 2008 10:18 AM EDT up reply actions

I dont disagree, but I owuld still like to see it!

I would rather see: Silva vs. Bisping then Silva vs. Cote.

question: what do u guys think owuld be the outcome of a Cote vs. Bisping match up?

by john on Sep 26, 2008 10:22 AM EDT up reply actions

Interesting! No idea really. Cote has a great record, I’ve always viewed him (correctly or incorrectly) as a one dimensional stand up fighter. Granted, he could punch a hole in most people. But Bisping seems more well rounded with overall good fight plans. I’d go with the count.

by chefdaddy on Sep 26, 2008 11:02 AM EDT up reply actions

Agree John. I don’t dislike Cote, but I don’t think it will be a great fight. I’d like to see more MWs step up to the plate, including some who have already lost to Silva.

GSP had to learn from his loss to Hughes before GSP could beat him.

by BobC on Sep 26, 2008 11:02 AM EDT up reply actions

i think bisping beats cote, the only thing cote has over bisping is a harder punch bisping is the better striker and better on the ground and more active.i don’t think bisping will beat hendo yet and probally never beat silva but yes iw ould rather see bisping vs silve than cote any day.

by roy on Sep 26, 2008 11:08 AM EDT up reply actions

That’s a hard one to call. I still think Cote matches up better with the Spider than Bisping. The 2 main reasons are, Cote could possibly tag Silva and hurt him and I don’t think Bisping can. Silva WILL hit them both. Who has the better chance to stay standing? To get rocked by Silva is as good as getting KOed, because a few seconds later, you will be.

by Gord on Sep 27, 2008 11:42 AM EDT up reply actions

Plus Anderson would like to fight in England again. He enjoyed his Cage Rage days.

by RobH86 on Sep 26, 2008 11:03 AM EDT up reply actions

i love how there is no mention of silva having to get through cote first. lol.

by JB on Sep 26, 2008 10:16 AM EDT reply actions

who?

by cmon_chokehim on Sep 26, 2008 10:22 AM EDT up reply actions

Ha ha, yeah still think that matchup is a joke. Should have waited for Okami or even Maia.

by Nick J on Sep 26, 2008 11:36 AM EDT up reply actions

sounds like shades of GSP/Serra the 1st time around…ya never know

by McArthur on Sep 26, 2008 4:14 PM EDT up reply actions

i dont know but a agree with RAMPAGE in this one after seen forrest beating shogun and cough …mmmmmmm….cough…cough beating RAMPAGE i want to see a rematch of this one . RAMPAGE BY MURDER HE WROTE= i said anything can happen but my money is on the SPIDER

by HALEXTITO on Sep 26, 2008 10:19 AM EDT reply actions

LOL @ Rampage saying Bisping doesn’t know how good he really is. Bisping has got to be one of the most cocky fighters in the UFC.

I really wish Rampage had not went all crazy and gotten into that car chase because It’s guys like him, Chuck and Wand who make the LHW division so exciting. Forrest is okay, but Evans and Machida bore me.

by natedogg77 on Sep 26, 2008 10:52 AM EDT reply actions

lmao im sorry to take the seriousness out of this topic but bisping looks hilarious in that pic haha
good luck to him in his next fight

by thetruth on Sep 26, 2008 10:53 AM EDT reply actions

Its true! Bisping is one of the best and will have a good chance against Silva! with his reach and all around skills.

by Tony on Sep 26, 2008 11:13 AM EDT reply actions

Where does he say this? not in this video…..

by Tony on Sep 26, 2008 11:23 AM EDT reply actions

LOLOL if Bisping and Anderson fought 10 times, I really think he might only win twice out of ten.

by GSP SUCKA on Sep 26, 2008 11:32 AM EDT reply actions

And that’s sayin’ much…

by The Negation on Sep 27, 2008 9:58 PM EDT up reply actions

Rampage, remember you have to eat actual gfood and can’t just drink energy drinks. I htought youlearned the lesson the first time.

by clayton on Sep 26, 2008 11:32 AM EDT reply actions

dude shut up, Rampage has been through a lot from dumping a Con-artist trainer Juanito to getting robbed of his title from Forrest because he and everyone else including Forrest knows Rampage won rounds 1,3&4 which equals a split decision for Rampage. For this guy to still be in good spirits and not to mention fight Wandy around the same time he’s going to court. Rampage is one of the best fighters in the world & i think he deserves a little more credit than he’s been getting from the public!

by Pierre on Sep 26, 2008 2:52 PM EDT up reply actions

I wasn’t supporting him a bit! Whether he was in his right mind or not is debatable, but his decision to do the dumbf*ck things that led to those actions is ridiculous. If he’s a touch mental, I can understand, but every one of us has had hard times and didn’t binge on energy drinks, not sleep and run from police in our truck.

by chefdaddy on Sep 27, 2008 8:34 AM EDT up reply actions

I agree with you that everyone of us has had hard times but everyone of us hasn’t had the Fame of being a champion in the UFC, that kind of stardom is not like a regular persons hard times…so i’m inclined to believe it would take a little more effort to overcome his hard times that it would one of ours…

by Pierre on Sep 27, 2008 4:19 PM EDT up reply actions

Slightly off topic….

For those who have followed the sport for a while….how would’ve another Brit in the form of Lee Murray done against Bisping??? I’m on the fence with this one!

by UKMMA on Sep 26, 2008 11:40 AM EDT reply actions

That would be a savage fight…The Battle of Britain. It won’t ever happen now. Lee was the last one to go the distance with Anderson too. (Yes I realise Chonan submitted Silva).

Bisping would win now, Lee would have won back in the day I think.

by RobH86 on Sep 26, 2008 12:03 PM EDT up reply actions

You’re right…it will never happen now, but yes it would have been savage indeed! I think both at there best..Murray would have taken it, but no doubt he’ll never be what he could have now!

Seeing Bisping’s rise of the past few years you gotta wonder if Murray could have achieved similar results if he’d chosen a different path.

by UKMMA on Sep 26, 2008 12:15 PM EDT up reply actions

Definatley… Lee Murray was the real deal… Jus read the Hughes Biog where he talks about murray kickin’ tito’s ass outside a London nightclub!

The Brits are behind the Americans, Brazilians and Japanese in MMA – The UK has a long proud history in the boxing game though – Watch as MMA becomes more and more popular over here – The British will evently produce some amazing fighters

Right now there are a lot of very good strikers around – just need to progress in Wrestling and Jitsu!!

by DanP on Sep 26, 2008 2:59 PM EDT up reply actions

Lee murray was great. What ever happend to him. I know he got into trouble over that heist, but anyone know where he is today?

morroco prison wait to be exported to england i believe

by GEEZZZZ on Sep 26, 2008 5:46 PM EDT up reply actions

I understand he’s out of prison in Morrocco (severed 8 months for drug charges or something) but because there is no extradition treaty between UK and Morocco the British government can’t force him to return to England to stand charges for the hiest.

I think his father is Moroccan too which means if he’s got a duel passport he can stay over there as long as he likes.

by UKMMA on Sep 27, 2008 4:18 AM EDT up reply actions

last i heard he was out (belive he was in for drug charges). They couldn’t bring him back to the UK to stand trial (for the hiest) at the time tho as their is no extradition treaty between UK and Morocco.

Think is father is moroccan too so looks like he’ll be staying awat for some time yet!

by UKMMA on Sep 27, 2008 6:36 AM EDT up reply actions

not alot of wrestling or jutsu gyms in england

i’ve tried lookin all around the area i live in but there is nothing of the sort …. just boxing and kick boxing gyms

by ufcaddict on Sep 28, 2008 9:15 AM EDT up reply actions

Isn’t Lee Murray the guy that robbed that big ass bank?

by Spider Rulz on Sep 27, 2008 11:27 AM EDT up reply actions

There is a better chance of “the devil going after Brian” than there is or Bisping beating Silva. This is just more babbling nonsense coming out or Rampage. Lay off the water and energy drinks.

by the_mexicutioner on Sep 26, 2008 11:50 AM EDT reply actions

yeah, I don’t even think rampage could beat silva, much less a chance that bisping could.

by James S on Sep 26, 2008 1:39 PM EDT up reply actions

Interesting… I’m not surprised Rampage has come out with this – seeing that the’re friends and Jackson now trains at the wolfslair..

Pesonally I’m a big fan of Hendo (Pride Days)But I think He’s getting old – I wouldn’t like to see that fight – Cos I’m a Brit and I want to see Bisping do well (but not at hendo’s expense cos I want him to get another crack at Silva)

Best scenario is Bispings fights Marquart (After he knocks Leben the F*ck Out) Then fights Silva

I doubt Bisping could take Silva – to me Bisping whist very good, is like a lesser version of the fighter Anderson Silva is…

Having said that he would beat Cote!

What I’m trying to say is… I think Bisping is already in the mix with the top tier 185’ ers (blow Silva) i.e; Hendo, Okami, Marquardt and Franklin (at 185 of course)

Gonna be interesting what te UFC does with Bisping though – if they feed him to Silva too early it will derail him – just like it has everyone else

Just a thought… but how many middleweights are sat at home HOPING silva retires!!!!

by DanP on Sep 26, 2008 11:56 AM EDT reply actions

marquardt has gone alot stronger and better since his loss too silva he has looked like a serious contender

by ufcaddict on Sep 28, 2008 9:18 AM EDT up reply actions

Check setanta! Rampage says he will steamrole Wandy!

by Tony on Sep 26, 2008 12:05 PM EDT reply actions

Leben is going to KO Bisbing. Forrest deserves winning the title. He’ll beat Evans around for 5 rounds to prove it. Oh yeah, Machida gargles balls!

there’s my two cents for the day!

by masters on Sep 26, 2008 12:20 PM EDT reply actions

right on. Bisbing won’t beat hendo either

by onthebutton on Sep 26, 2008 1:04 PM EDT up reply actions

He must have been drunk when he said this, silva would destroy bisbing in the first round, like taking candy from a baby.

by nathan on Sep 26, 2008 12:25 PM EDT reply actions

haha my question got metioned twice on setanta, im stehen morrison, and iv kinda spoke to rampe and bispinghrough an emal, then a telly!! Im a supersar woohoo hahha lol!!!

on a serious nte, veryon has to give rampage a break.the guy has hada tough time an this is wher the fans othe sport should be supporting its stars not laugig a there mis fortune!

in relation to bisping beating silva? you would have to doubt his chances only becuse he has demolished everyone so far!!having said that i think bisping has probth best game in the division to do it!!

Cant wait to see rampage back in the octagon, and dana get a strong fight card on in britain preferably in scotland, and with the ICEMAN!!!!!!

by mo on Sep 26, 2008 3:30 PM EDT reply actions

Bisping is the the real deal! you´ll find out real soon..

by Mysterio on Sep 26, 2008 3:48 PM EDT reply actions

Why does everyone hate on Bisping? just curious, is it because he is from the UK…but I love everyone dumping on Rampage, 2 months ago everyone was posting that he was the greatest thing every! it must be casual fans of MMA who love a guy when he is on the top and hate him when he is down, A true fan of a fighter is a fan when he wins and when he loses, but rally I am curious as to why every dislikes Bisping so much?

by jet99 on Sep 26, 2008 3:54 PM EDT reply actions

yes it is because he’s from England.. people actually think Leben has a chance of winning cause he’s an american! and if i was Rampage and training with Bisping i’d probably say that Bisping has a chance to beat Silva one day too, i can’t understand what the deal is.. Bisping is another fighter at 185 than he was at 205

by RoB on Sep 26, 2008 6:39 PM EDT up reply actions

I don’t think it’s because he is from the UK. He’s a very talented fighter with a very BIG ego. He’d gain much more respect if he was a little more humble.

by Gord on Sep 27, 2008 11:56 AM EDT up reply actions

Rampage really has lost his mind!

by pete on Sep 26, 2008 3:59 PM EDT reply actions

Said it before and I’ll say it again, Bisping still hasn’t beaten anyone!!!! The Day win was his only ‘impressive performance.’ IMO.
Nate, Quarry, Kampmann, Okami, Hendo, all smash him!
Leben by KO.
